A day after the Lagos State governor accused the Federal Ministry of Works of frustrating some of his plans in Lagos State, the minister has replied.

In a statement sent on Wednesday, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode accused the federal ministry of failure to allow the state government rebuild the Oshodi road that leads to the Lagos Airport and failure to ensure the proper handover of the Presidential Lodge in Lagos to the state government as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

North Korea fires missiles, three reach waters off Japan

Nuclear-armed North Korea launched four ballistic missiles on Monday in another challenge to President Donald Trump, with three landing provocatively close to America’s ally Japan.

Seoul and Washington began annual joint military exercises last week that always infuriate Pyongyang, with the North’s military warning of “merciless nuclear counter-action”.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said that it is still investigating the importation of 661 rifles imported into the country from China in January.

Another 180 Nigerians are expected back in Nigeria from Libya on Tuesday. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this on Friday while receiving the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Commission, Sadiya Farouk, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ibrahim Ali has granted a 30-day grace period to all vehicle owners whose Customs duty have not been paid, to do so or face prosecution.

This is coming two months after the federal government banned the importation of vehicles through land borders.

Following intelligence received on a transport vehicle containing suspected counterfeit Peak Milk products bound for Lagos from the East, NAFDAC set up surveillance from about 4am on the 17th of February, 2017 which led to successful interception of the vehicle and its contents as it was arriving Lagos. The Federal Government on Monday evacuated 41 Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Mali for forced labour and sexual exploitation. Also six persons, alledged to be human traffickers, were also arrested and brought back to the country alongside their victims.

The Hercules C-130 military aircraft, with registration number NAF 913, conveying the returnees landed at 7:45 pm at the Airforce Base of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

They were brought back by the Nigeria Air Force in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant, Diaspora and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

About 100 people ransacked shops in Johannesburg overnight, police said on Monday, in the latest burst of xenophobic attacks and looting incidents in South African cities.

Doors and windows were smashed in, and food and other items were strewn on the floor in stores believed to belong to immigrants in Jeppestown, an area in the central business district.

“We’ve been stuck inside here until the police came,” Abdul Ebrahim, a Somali shop owner said after emerging from his store, where a number of his colleagues had barricaded themselves.
