rottennaija: I don't agree. The cost of running government is too high. Yes, salary is a recurrent expenditure, but if they show you how much they pay in a month, you will realize it's not big.
The main problem is their own recurrent expenditure. Take for example, why on earth will a common commissioner be going around the town with 5 cars on his convoy? How much is he spending on fuel, tires, servicing, feeding those he goes around with?
And if there are say 30 commissioners, you can imagine how many cars and humans they are spending on.
How about SSG? Deputy Gov? Gov himself?
In addition to how much they are looting through inflation of contract, security vote?
Then imagine those in the federal setup, ministers, both Junior and senior, SGF, vp, president, chief of staff.
Then you think about the state legislatures, LG chairman, Federal legislators, senators?
Salary or minimum wage is not had to pay. But these people are so used to these opulent lifestyle that they wouldn't sacrifice it for anything.
Why the heck do we have both the senate and the house of reps?
I still maintain that our cost of governance is too much. That's why we can build roads, hospitals, schools, railways, or pay salaries. And I say you're absolutely correct my Sir. COSTS OF RUNNING GOVERNANCE |
Politics › Re: Minimum Wage: We Can’t Pay N24, 000 – NGF by MallamJackson(m): 11:30am On Oct 19, 2018 |
Reference: Then they should down size their workforce to manageable levels just as any private sector operators would or preferrably right size by commercializing as many government functions as possible so that revenue generating agencies absorb part or all the departmental wage bill.
What we lack in Nigeria is ideas. Politicians are elected to make a difference. They are elected not to continue the failed systems of their predecessors but to generate new ideas for the betterment of the society that empowers them.
I think the National Assembly needs to pass legislation obliging all Federating units, both state and local government to set aside a fraction of their budget to invest in revenue earning enterprises with the aim of augmenting income from the Federation account and ensure milestone targets are achieved towards total financial independence over the medium to long term.
I cannot see how the gap between earnings from Federal coffers and the wage bill will not continue to expand within the structure we presently operate as the nation's population continues to increase and the economy remains largely moribund. States should be compelled to invest, to partner the private sector and be shareholders in enterprise. Wow! It couldn't have been said any better. You're absolutely spot on. And this can only begin to take hold if the people themselves will quit the money politics that avails and start holding their leaders to account. Sending an unequivocally straight message to these leaders that it's no longer business as usual let the power of incumbency lose it's grip And let anyone vying for an office understand that the little change they throw around during campaigns can longer save them but one thing and one thing alone Their performance while in office. It is only when the people beging to not take these folks for granted that they themselves will quit taking the people for granted. So alot rests on the people as they alone are the catalysts to a responsible government. |

Buterflyle0: The fun part of this gist is that in 2015 we retired a 16 year government called PDP even as a fledgeling APC party and you think that after this same fledgeling APC has been in power for 4 years the same PDP we retired in 2015 will come back? . I laugh in PDP burial.

rottennaija: Incapable of paying or unwilling to? This are governors that are spending billions on frivolous things. I think it's a case of them no being willing to pay You have a point but then again ahh... recurrent expenditures as salaries are no walk in the park its a monthly thing ever wondered why some states like Kogi Ekiti Osun are owing months of salary areas? A governor once quaried: Are we going there only to pay salaries? you need to be a people oriented person to be able to not owe salaries and yet be seen doing tangible work for the state and most of our states are not so lucky. |

Points succinctly and quite straight forwardly scrbbled my Sir.
And we are quite aware of most of these
But they all do not in anyway ameliorate how gargantuan a scam the APC have turned out to be
Neither do they wash away the APC's lack of plan before taking up Nigerias number one office
Neither do they absolve the APC from it's (till today) buck passing proclivities.
The PDP messed up Nigeria and the APC asked to be given the opportunity to make things work.
Today it's become apparent they can't be relied upon to make good on their promises.
So sending them packing can't be tantamount to "a collective amnesia"
Nigerians aren't bringing back the PDP we rather are bringing inn a person with a divergent idea just as it was in 2015
Let the very same person mess up?
Then watch us kick his butts out like the nothing it is.
We have a voice and it must be heard!
We have our votes and they must count!
We have a stance and it shall be seen!
Come soon 2019!
come soon the polls!
