Judejibs:
So it turns out you have been thinking of an alternative to your everyday purchase of Fuel for your generator, also hoping there will be a miracle soon and we have constant light. I too hope so, but in the meantime why don’t you save yourself the risk of storing fuel in gallons and think about a Power Inverter and become your own NEPA. After-all we are in the Jet age.

Are you planning to buy or upgrade your inverter in this season? Then instead of being trapped in the marketing gimmicks, understand some basic facts and do a little bit home work. Here some facts you must know before buying an inverter

Calculate your power requirements

Before going to purchase an inverter- You have to make a rough estimation of your power requirements. remember- Inverter is not a Generator.

Wattage rating of typical home appliances

Appliances Power

Fan (Ceiling) 50-75 Watts

Fan (Table) 25-50 Watts

CFL 18 Watts 18 Watts

Computer (Desktop) 80- 150 Watts

Laptop 20- 75 Watts

LCD TV (32”) 150 Watts

Refrigerator 160 – 250 Watts

Tube Light (4 Feet) 40 Watts

Starting power and running power

Starting and running power requirement of all electric appliances are different. An 18 Watts CFL takes around 25 Watts power to start and after few seconds it stabilizes to 18 Watts. Some appliances like Refrigerator, Washing Machine etc take almost double power to start as compared to the normal running power. Hence before selecting an inverter you must calculate the starting power requirement also.

Difference between VA and Watts

Often people confuse with the difference between Watts and VA ratings of inverter or other home appliances. Manufacturers use both these terms according to their requirements to confuse and mislead the consumers. Power drawn by the equipment (Power using equipment like Bulb, Fridge, Washing Machines, ACs, Stabilizers etc.) and Power generated by the equipment (Generators, Inverters, UPS etc) can be expressed in Watts or VA (Volt Ampere). In general Power generating or stabilizing equipment manufacturers use the term VA to specify their ratings and power consuming products use Watts to specify their ratings. Here comes the difference. Power in Watts is the real power drawn or supplied by an equipment, this is the real value. VA is the apparent power (more theoretical) which is obtained by multiplying the Voltage and Current drawn/supplied by an equipment. We can equate the VA and Watts ratings:

Power in Watts = Power in VA- Losses

or

Power in Watts = Power in VA x Efficiency of the equipment

The ratio of Power in Watts to Power in VA is termed as Power factor. Unfortunately manufacturers often don’t specify the power factor or efficiency in their products.

Let’s see an example. You are purchasing an inverter with 650 VA power ratings. This 650 VA indicates, it can supply 650 VA power under ideal situations( means efficiency of the inverter is 100%). If we take 80% as a typical efficiency figure, the said inverter can supply 80% of 650 = 520 Watts only. Now you can understand why inverter manufacturers only publish the VA rating on their products. If an inverter or UPS is coming without mentioning power factor, you must take a safe value of 0.6 (60%) as power factor while connecting appliances.

Digital Inverter

What is digital in inverters? First generation inverters were using power transistors as switching devices and transistorized circuitry for monitoring/controlling applications. That is an old story. Nowadays inverter technology has changed a lot. A complete transition from old square wave technology to Pure Sine wave technology with the help of advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques. Micro controllers are extensively utilized for précised monitoring and controlling applications. Switching transistors are replaced with high efficient MOSFETs.

Battery

Battery- the vital part of inverter. Performance and life of an inverter greatly depends upon battery. We can see several classifications of inverter batteries. Normally high power Lead Acid batteries are used to power inverters. Lead acid batteries are classified in to different types as per application, design, technology etc.

Battery Capacity

Capacity of a battery is expressed in terms of Ampere Hour (Ah). It indicates the rate of current a battery can supply for a given duration. If the capacity of a battery is 100 Ah, that battery can supply 100 Ampere current for 1 Hour or 1 Ampere Current for 100 Hrs, 2 Amps Current for 50 Hrs .Capacity of inverter batteries are generally 100 Ah, 150 Ah or 180 Ah 200Ah, 260 Ah up to 1660Ah

Why automotive batteries are not suitable for inverters?

Lead acid batteries used for automotive purpose are termed as “High Cycle” lead acid batteries. These batteries are designed to provide high current for a very short duration (To start the vehicles). Automotive lead acid batteries are not designed to be regularly discharged by more than 25% of their rated capacity. Here the requirement of inverter is totally different. Inverter require “Deep Cycle” type batteries to provide continuous power which can be discharged at least 50% of their rated capacity. Some good deep cycle batteries can be discharged over 80% of their capacity. Deep Cycle batteries have specially designed thick plates known as AGM to withstand frequent charging and discharging.

If you like a fit and forget inverter system or your situations don’t permit you to do periodic maintenance of batteries then go for a maintenance free battery. Let me quote one example- My friend uses Maintenance free batteries in his home because his old aged mother is living alone and she doesn’t have enough knowledge on battery maintenance. In that situation maintenance free battery the best choice.

Tubular batteries

This is the most popular segment of inverter batteries-Tubular batteries have several advantages compared to flat plate batteries. More complex design increases the manufacture cost but the high electrical efficiency and extra long life make tubular batteries suitable for both domestic and industrial applications. A good maintained tubular battery can run unto 8 years or more. Tubular batteries comparatively require less maintenance. Cost of tubular batteries can go up to double of a normal flat plate battery, however if you have a high efficiency inverter like Xantrex then go for a tubular battery, you will not regret..

*****AVOID ERNEST NGWU*******
This guy claims to repair inverters. We took 4 Inverters to him for repairs. He claims that the board and Mosfetts were blown. On the 5 kw units he claimed that the charging port was bad and the other had issues that he could not explain.
He denied repairing the 5 kw units that we never gave him 5 kw units. I have them and one of the readers here took it back to the client with me.
The defective charger port still does not charge the batteries.
The other inverter that we took back to a client last night the ATF function does not work, the charger light comes on but it does not charge the batteries. The fans in the inverter don't work. The most glaring was that the display on one of the inverters was no working and he did not notice it. So far two out 3 are bad. We made him return the 4 th.
HE IS A FRAUD, A LIAR, A CHEAT.

Please avoid Ernest Ngwu at all cost. He is a quack and has no clue what he is doing. We avoided repairing inverters in the past and our first attempt has ended in failure.

Who is Ernest Ngwu ? Share his Phone nos, Nairaland handle or username , so that we wont fall into same FRAUD or CHEAT. Thanks for the info.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: How To Write A Good CV by manmidtexy(m): 4:17am On Apr 15, 2016
[quote author=anticent post=41559571]Writing a good CV is another skill that needs to be learnt. The job market is full of too many smart and intelligent people making it harder or almost impossible for average people to find jobs in all sectors. There are basic things to look out for when writing a good CV such as spellings, punctuations, and grammar. Do not be like a candidate who totally omitted commas on his CV and wrote his interest as ‘loves cooking dogs and interesting people’.

Without much ado, after working 5 years as a Recruiter within the Oil & Gas sector and still counting, here are the top tips to use when writing a CV that will definitely land you interviews.

1. Gather Experience

Nothing will ever take the place of experience when it comes to job search. Many companies require that applicants have enough experience before they could be considered for a job, but how then do you get experience when you cannot find a job.
The ugly truth is that many companies in Africa do not have the time to train newbies. They are always looking for people who can hit the ground running in fact they often prefer multi-skilled people (people who can do more than one job). It is even far worse in a recession market as the struggle for companies to survive increases in a recession time like this, the only people they are most likely see now are people who can hit the ground running and save the company from going bankrupt.

You should look for a friend, family member, friend of a friend, etc., who is currently running a business so you can join and work with them as a freelancer. If you are a graduate, you better not lose opportunities to gain experience by turning down job opportunities simply because they do not pay well. Smart graduates jump at the slightest opportunity of gaining experience but not money. Search for many online resources and even use simulations to gain real life experience prior to getting a job.

2. Never Start Your Employment Experience with Intern

A sure way to get your CV trashed by a Recruiter is to have your first job experience staring at him as an NYSC teacher. Do not be deceived, when a company advertises for a graduate trainee position, it does not mean they will automatically consider all graduate CV’s rolling in. You need to speak the language of the industry on your CV. I will advise you put your NYSC experience at the bottom of your job experience and find other related things you have done to be at the top even if they are not paid jobs.

3. Use Keywords

Many job seekers still do not know that they should write their CV’s like SEO Managers when submitting their CV to a company online. Many companies use an enterprise software called ATS(Applicant Tracking System) to receive pool of CV’s from job seekers. This ATS would have been fed with keywords, if these keywords are not found on the CV you sent, the ATS will not shortlist your CV to be passed on to the hiring Manager except you are lucky to have the Recruiter review your CV manually. For instance, if a company advertises for a ‘Trainee Reservoir Engineer’ position, the keywords you will put on your CV will likely be Reservoir Engineering, Trainee, Reservoir software, Evaluation, Reservoir modeling, etc. Of course you will have to make sure the keywords fit in a sentence on your CV. Always use the language of the industry you target.

4. Sell Your Skills

Writing a CV is like writing a business plan. When writing a business plan, you talk about how your business can be profitable showing all the details to catch the interest of the potential investors. In CV writing, you are the product. Do not make the mistake of selling your features (I am a beautiful and intelligent graduate looking…). No one truly cares if you are beautiful for a technical position, and I have not seen a CV where someone wrote that he was dumb. Everyone always says they are smart at first. Sell your benefits (skills you have acquired). If you are applying for a ‘Trainee Geologist’ position, indicate some of the software you have learnt on your own such as petrel, Mbal, etc. The Hiring Manager knows you are not a specialist yet but demonstrating your awareness within your industry makes your CV stands out form other graduates who just sent a no experience and no skill CV.

5. Keep your Age Confidential

This might work against you sometimes when you put your age on your CV. For instance some companies have age limit before they can shortlist candidates for interviews. Countries like Algeria more than often will not offer you a job or Visa if you are close to 70. Your aim for sending a CV is to land you in an interview, so avoid everything that might decrease your chances of getting an interview invite. In the real sense of it, your age should not determine your competence on the job; we all deserve a chance to prove our competence.

6. Write a Professional Profile

It is old fashioned to have ‘objective’ on your CV. Instead, write a compelling profile such as ‘An excellent Business Development Officer with over 2years of experience in the Marine sector covering DP2 Vessel…’ This is the place to flaunt the software and other skills you know of.

7. Never include Your Photo (except You are applying for a Modeling or Showbiz positions)

Using a photo on your CV does not increase your chances of being shortlisted for an interview except if required for the position you are applying for. People might develop wrong or good opinion about you based on how you look. Your aim is to let your CV land you an interview so avoid anything that might prevent it from happening.

8. Send Your CV in Word format(Only send PDF when requested)

Many ATS software used by companies cannot read PDF files. Most CV’s uploaded in PDF will be rendered in error therefore jeopardizing your chances of getting shortlisted. By default, always endaevour to send your CV in Word format unless otherwise stated.

9. Avoid Designing or Using Excessive Tables On Your CV

Tables often make it impossible for some devices or software to read certain part of your CV. This might decrease your chances of getting shortlisted as important information satisfying the requirements of the job you are applying for might have been shielded by the tables. Many devices are not table friendly so job seekers are advised to avoid using excessive tables or designing their CV’s. This does no good to applicants at all.

10. Do not Write Your Grade Except You Made Upper Class

Except your grade is First Class, Second Class Upper, Distinction, and Upper Credit, you should never put any other grade lower than this on your CV. If you made Second Class Lower, simply write ‘Obafemi Awolowo University, BSc. In Petroleum Engineering’. Do not put grade except it is upper class.

If you stick with these tips and incorporates it into your CV writing skills, I believe you should be closer to getting your interviews lined up soon. I shall be writing a piece on what to do when you have gotten an interview invite. Many candidates have ruined golden opportunities during interviews due to ill preparation.

Feel free to ask questions through this thread on how best you can write your CV or if you simply want to have your CV re-written professionally, I suggest you send a mail to consultant@petrolage-group.com

Shippyme Is IT focused ,they'll definitely get to see that post someday, they have social media platforms that work..that's a plus to them ,cos they"ll try to launder image by appeasing manmidtexy.. Speciut is another firm that takes their internet presence serious.Same goes for AirLagos

Well yea they all have problems,Shippyme being the most advertised US to Nigeria courier solution on nairaland draws a lot of attention to them, when I saw all the ads I expect them to be very good at what they do..I expected them to change the game by giving out great services and in doing so sweep the courier market ,and make their competitors buckle up...but I have seen a lot of negative comments abt them here, I haven't used them before so I can't say anything..
I'm not writing them off yet they still gat room to improve..
I even got a Disclaimer email from shippyme abt one of their staff that steals peoples items, they say he's being prosecuted at the moment.

All these cargo/courier firms all have their own share of dissappointing customers...
I still use impex though, I got bitten the 2nd time I used em ,just did my 5th shipping with them last month..
When I got bitten it was like the end of the world,I was running my lil business with borrowed funds and ....them wan send me go village, So when u see someone complain, there are two possibilities either they got really pained by losing their stuff or its a competitor tryna tarnish their image ....they advertise on this forum ,so they should come clear the air
@ euwajeh: You work for shippyme ? i can upload facts and figures i have against them..that does not mean i hate..I just order from a store in the USA and they have a glitch in their system for shipping sake..i file a refund and they did immediately did so with the help of the MANAGER that stepped into the matter immediately..can our Nigeria pple do that, NO..they will still have their so called right words;;YOU ARE DEALING WITH A COMPANY not an Individual.. MY PROPERTY IS STILL SHIPPYME AS AM WRITING HERE and they will never get back..how can i go back to such dubious and mouth gain-saying SHOP called COMPANY or refer pple to the,..THEN I AM HYPOCRITE FOR DOING SUCH THING.

Are there new air cargo deals out there?yall shouldn't forget to share new experiences and reviews..if theres a firm thats messing up pls write about them so we all avoid them like plague...
Yall have a great day
@ Mrkuvu --- the worst shipping cargo i have ever seen is CIRCUIT ATLANTIC co-named shippyme.. THEY WILL SCAM you by claiming what they are not. more importantly is , I HAVE EVERY EVIDENCE IN PAPER WITH ME , I CAN SCAN AND POST IT HERE.

THEY USE DIMENSIONAL WEIGHT CALCULATION NOT GRAVITATIONAL WEIGHT CALCULATION TO OVER CHARGE BY PRICING.

YOUR CARGO WILL COME IN BITS, THEY WILL WASTE YOUR ENERGY, MONEY. MY CARGO HAD USED MORE THAN 3 MONTHS BEFORE IT ARRIVE.

THEIR WEBSITE STUFFS IS JUST TO FOOL NEW OR PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS. THEY CANNOT MANIFEST WHAT THEY CLAIM.

THEY STILL OWE ME ITEMS THAT HAD NOT BEEN DELIVERED TO ME AND I PAID THEM FULLY BUT COLLINS AMANZE IN CHARGE AND OTHERS WONT ACT OR REFUND A LOT OF CUSTOMERS THEY HAD DUPED BY THEIR RECKLESSLY UNPROFESSIONAL INEXPERIENCE SERVICES.

Use BEST4SHIPPING INC. it is $50 FLAT RATE for package weight between 1 - 10KG, they ship out every TUESDAYS . but the exact transit and delivery time is 2 weeks EXACTLY. they will consolidate your package and all your package will be intact. I had used them many times. but you will receive your package via their clearing agent in Nigeria called CEDAR TREASURES LIMITED and will notify you by TEXT or SMS as your package is ready for PICKUP. You can pay to them in Nigeria when your package arrives or in USA, but i advise you to pay in Nigeria.

Always email best4shipping if you are consolidating many packages that will arrive in different times and also notify when to ship your package(s) so as to nullify delay.

I hope this helps. All their info is below.

When you are shipping directly to them from a store like bestbuy.com or via a person known to you, kindly use but email SEUN in NEW YORK first .
