Was it university of Manitoba you enrolled into?
Yes

Were you able to work during those five months. It think the policy was reinforced because of Covid. They don’t want any non-essential travelling
I landed in Manitoba, as at then jobs were very difficult to find, couldn’t get a job even when I started school. 7months later I moved to Ontario transferred to humber college. One week after moving to Ontario I got a job, something I wasn’t able to get in Manitoba though. I guess Manitoba wasn’t for me haha, plus the cold there is brutal

This stuff about 4 weeks prior to start of school section is so disturbing, anyways, I have already booked my flight 6 weeks prior to start of school section....so help me God
On God lol, I actually traveled 5months prior to when my program started, that was 4yrs ago.
My brother was at the airport today and they didn’t let him travel even after showing his travel letter; his program starts in September btw.
The new policy is so frustrating though smh

Hey guys, must one travel 4weeks prior to when their program starts?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by maralina: 12:42am On Jul 01, 2021
Akannitommy:
I don't this is true for all schools as policy on this subject differ subtantially.

In my school (Concordia University), I was still back home without a study permit but already had approval when I registered/enrolled. Infact, by the time I did, I was already too late to do it personally so my departmental graduate program assistant had to help complete the process on the back end.

In the current case of my niece who got admitted for Winter 2022 just 2 weeks ago (12th June) into a Bsc program at University of Saskatchewan, the school already invited her to register for her courses (6-months) ahead of resumption. This girl has not written IELTS, not booked medical, and I am not even 100% sure the father has made up his mind to fund the thing.

So situation differ and as common on this platform, there is never a one-size-fit-all universal explanation to most questions. Context matter!
Wow, this is all new to me
It wasn’t like this during my time though
But thanks for letting me know

It is still given at Poe. The reason they want enrollment letter is just to make sure the passenger is an essential traveler. I.e You can only travel when you have resumed or about to resume. They don’t want ppl traveling 2/3 months before resumption
Oh okay, I get it now
Thanks for the info
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by maralina: 12:37am On Jul 01, 2021
Does anyone know how long it takes to get a travel letter from the school? (Humber college Specifically)
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by maralina: 12:33am On Jul 01, 2021
Mofolam:
No, you don’t fam. Not since post-covid; many people have even resumed and done tests and exam before getting sp. Even Humber college, things have obviously changed
Wow didn’t know this, but I thought study permit is given at POE or not anymore?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by maralina:
CHIKACIC:
I think he is suppose to first upload his immigration documents from IRCC (in this case the LOI) on his Humber Account page before he can register online and fill the below form for Humber to send his International Travel Letter.

Ask him whether he has done any of the above?

Hope this helps.
Yeah he’s done this already
Thanks
You have any idea how long it takes to get the travel letter?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by maralina: 11:42pm On Jun 30, 2021
Jeff5gold:
No college or university will give enrolment letter without being registered in the said school or college. You don’t need a study permit to register in school.
You need a study permit to register in school fam, I graduated from humber college and a study permit is needed in order to register for classes.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by maralina: 8:49pm On Jun 30, 2021
Hey guys, unfortunately for my brother humber college cannot give enrolment letter until he’s registered in school and he can’t register in school until he has his study permit which He’s meant to collect at point of entry. Nigerian airlines can’t allow him board the flight if he doesn’t have an enrolment letter.
Please what do we do now because I’m honestly frustrated.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 19 by maralina: 5:35pm On Jun 30, 2021
Hey guys
As a new student going to canada, do you need to show your enrolment letter at the airport? I think you can’t get enrolment letter if you’re not registered in school or have your study permit yet.
Please let me know, the airline can’t let my brother travel without enrolment letter and I find it really wierd

Hi guys, good morning from here. And happy new year.
@abiodunne, have you been approved? If No..
I’ll advice you to sue CIC, they’re with your passport, meaning you can’t travel out of Nigeria to any other country of your choice. Withholding your National Identity for 2 fucking years do you know what that meanshuh Sue their ass please, its not just fair. File a suit of at least $500M(USD) against them...these guys has punished you enough. Get a reasonable lawyer. And be serious about it.
Thanks.

Finally got time to update the house
Update live from Winnipeg, Manitoba
Started my journey on the 13th, December from murtala international airport, my family members were not allowed to go into the airport with me, so went in myself with two 23kg luggage and a backpack. My luggage wasn't searched, moved to weigh them, wrap them in nylon bag for a thousand naira per bag, collected my boarding pass, later went out to bid my family farewell, it was then that it dawn on my wife that she will be missing me... huh

At exactly 11:45am, we were called to board our flight (Ethiopian), being the first time of flying was kinda feeling dizzy when the plane took off tongue .

Got to Adis Ababa, join a connecting flight to Toronto that stopped a brief at Dublin to fuel up and change the cabin crew after 6hours of flight. Ethiopian wan kill person with food even though the food was something out of my league. Had a little delay when we landed at Toronto, a plane was still dropping off people at our gate, that made me missed my connecting flight to Winnipeg sad.

Went to clear luggage, the Canadian border service agent were friendly, collected my passport, asked what course I was going for and asked me to sit and wait, after a while he called on me to come pick up my study permit saying I can work on or off campus... cheesy. Got my food stuffs searched... Egusi, grounded pepper, crayfish, garri, beans, smoked fish, semolina... I like food cheesy.

I was put on a stand by for the next flight but booked for the flight leaving for Winnipeg by 11pm, that is I have to stay for like 12hrs... angry, took my time to work around Toronto airport and search for food, nah there I know say I dey oyinbo land, what I saw as rice on bill board when I open am no be rice dey inside, couldn't eat that was how I wasted 18 dollars early morning in Canada.

Finally got a flight at about 8pm, arrived Winnipeg at about 10pm, my pick up was already waiting for me, because I used the free WIFI in Toronto airport to inform him of my delay flight. Stepping out of Winnipeg airport made me realised that my winter jacket nah singlet... Cold here no be jhoke o.

Settling in very well, had my first snow walk yesterday to open an account... Money matter... grin.

The city beautiful, waiting for you guys, there are lots of cool Nigerian guys here, very welcoming and friendly, they try as much to make sure you don't feel home sick... grin, can't wait to start lectures...
That's all the experience... Ire o!
Haha,
Welcome to Winterpeg Manisnowba..
Thank God you arrived safely.
Looking forward to meeting with you.
