Travel / Re: I Regret Coming To Europe- Nigerian Woman Says, After Family Ate Her N30m (vid) by marcelbli: 6:59pm On Nov 09, 2023
Europe is not the problem. Your family member is.

You stayed in a country illegally n was still able to save 30 million over 2 decades. That's better than a larger number of working Nigerians living in Nigeria.

Take serious action against the thief of a brother n thank God for the opportunity being in Europe gave you

Politics / Re: FG Moves To Securitise NLNG Dividends For $7bn Cash by marcelbli: 4:59pm On Oct 27, 2023

The loan is from a consortium led by Standard Chartered bank to be used to pay the overdue fx forwards debt.
This new loan inclusive of its interests will be backed/repaid by future dividend earning from NLNG.

You read the writeup at all?

I really wonder who would applaud such moves at this time.
The basic translation is that the FG is about to pledge its dividend earnings for the next 10 to 15 years for cash to settle past forward contracts. So, there would be any impact on our real economy from this $7 billion if it even pulls through.

For context, in 2021, the dividend the FG received from NLNG was $722 million as published. And since then, we have been having issues with production levels. Taking $7b now from a bank means that FEC would not see any dividend from NLNG for the next 15 years; if you factor in the discount rate the bank would apply to make profit.

I don't really know why we like making thesame mistakes. We are yet to recover from the crude forward swap in the past administration that has dried up earning from crude oil for a few years after the end of the last administration, as a significant amount of our future crude products are still being used to settle that one. We now want to enter into another one. Not for infrastructure need, but to settle dollar forward contracts. undecided

Keep celebrating such abhorrent use of funds and very soon there would be no Oil n Gas money entering our consolidated revenue account for sharing at FEC.

Family / Re: My Mom Doesn't Appreciate Me. How Do I Handle This? by marcelbli: 4:57pm On Sep 21, 2023
It's not easy as a parent not to come off as hurtful when you are trying to thread the thin line between motivating or being overly endearing.

I would suggest you have a sit-down with her to discuss this and let her know how it is hurting you. It has to be a proper, planned conversation, not something offhand. I am sure she would listen as you said she is caring.

You have to also realise that this is a habit she has developed over the years, so do not expect it to stop right away.

As kids, there are always areas we wish our parents could be better at, as it is same with us. Sometimes, understanding their temperament helps you to better accommodate some of these perceived deficiencies and it would no longer hurt you, as you begin to understand that it is a character flaw that they may be unable to change and you will continue to love them irrespective of that.
Family / Re: After 37yrs In South Africa He Came Back To Drag Properties With My Father. by marcelbli: 5:19pm On Sep 19, 2023
Peter532:
Hello all,
My dad immediate elder brother who went to south africa in the 90s is back to drag their parents property claiming to be the first son.

This is someone who after he travelled only came back once and never bothered about the affair's of the family.

Their father my grandfather died 2005 he was no where to be found. my grand mother died 2018 still nothing from him.

No contributions whatever even while their parents was still alive.

He cut all sort of communications with them and now he's back to lay claim on the properties.

The family is angry but some of the elders in the extended family are getting on is side claiming he's still the senior he was never disowned but they can't say it out though.

It's obvious he came back with almost nothing and felt laying claims on their parent property is the back up plan

No will was written and some of the old buildings has been reconstructed from the scratch by my father and yet someone is laying claim on it.

I will like to know how this will go because my father is ready to fight this with his last strength and we the children are firmly behind him

Honestly, your father has no right to deny your uncle who is his elder access and right to their father's property. FULLSTOP.

If you are from the East, the first son owns the residential property of the dad by right. The other properties are then shared amongst the kids. Even if that your uncle die, that property goes to his son and never to your dad.

There is a proverb in igbo that is loosely translated to mean 'you do not plant flowers in a house that is not yours'. The uncle do not owe your dad for the renovations on the properties that would eventually be shared and allocated to him. He can choose to be good and reimburse your dad though.

I am also sure that your dad might have been collecting rent from these properties and eating it alone. Has he ever even made an attempt to put some money away knowing that someone else is a joint beneficiary to those properties?

Your uncle can in thesame vein he is claiming for the renovation costs also asked for an account for the rents collected on the properties. Life should be much more easier than this.

Your family should be happy that your long lost uncle is returned and not this fight you are doing. It is never worth it to drag landed property with family members. It is too short sighted.

Let them share the properties amongst them and every man can face his lane. Good thing you said your dad has his own properties. No need for any party to get greedy.
Family / Re: My Dad Insists That My Fiancée Must Take Fertility Test Before Marriage by marcelbli: 6:29pm On May 04, 2023
beekind:
I am a 38 year old Nigerian American citizen dating a 26 year old Nigeria girl.
I grew up in Nigeria but travelled out to the USA when I was 25 years old, I am a citizen now and doing really well for myself.
I met a beautiful and godly Nigerian girl on facebook and we have been dating for some months now we are now thinking of marriage, she is in Nigeria while I am in the USA.

Some weeks ago my dad asked me to do some tests and send to him, (He is a medical doctor), I did them, turns out to be fertility tests and all was perfect.
I just told him about my fiance and my plans to get married in some months time and he said she has to do fertility test before he can agree to the marriage.

This was very shocking for me as he insisted that it is his position, I haven't told my fiance cos I dont know how to and my fiance is scheduled to pay my parents a visit for the first time in Port Harcourt in 2 weeks time.
My fiance is from Delta but lives in Portharcout as my parents while we are from Port harcourt.

My dad has said if I cannot tell her that he will, what do you guys think ?

Honest advise please and admin kindly push to front page for wider advise.

Thanks.

I find it quite surprising that you are finding it difficult having a conversation around fertility tests with a woman you are planning to wed.

Speak to your woman, and ask her to go for the tests. It is even more important considering it's a long distance relationship.

No topic or requests should be taboo at this point for the both of you as long as it is done with a clear conscience.

There is no good reason why you would want to fight it apart from your ego.

I don't think you have stated what I believe should be the most important consideration here; Is this a job you want to make a career out of? Or is it just to 'hold body'. Second, what is the prospect for progression within the company? (this may even be the biggest consideration).

Judging from only the information you have stated here; Option C may be the best for you as they seem to be the better structured. A big downside here is that you will be removing yourself from mainstream business circles and won't be able to quickly respond to better job opportunities.

However, you are not only considering for yourself as you are a family man. Things like how ur current housing situation will be impacted, your wife's employability as a result of the change and ur kid's schooling are all very weighty things you have to consider.

Goodluck with your choice.

Honestly, a job of 50K without accommodation nor benefits is very slavish. I am not sure you have considered what your total cost of relocation and accommodation in lagos will be compared to the compensation. When you do, you may find that it is not attractive at all.

On the legal side of things, I believe the Company is just trying to be smart by half. I am not sure they can enforce any kind of bond arrangement before they make you a full staff. Cos with the stated clauses, it would appear you are a contract staff with very limited rights. Goodluck on whatever you decide.

My friend and I invested on them last year with the returns due mid December. This is July and they are yet to make any returns to us.

They have even stopped picking calls or replying to WhatsApp messages.

It is really disheartening considering they showed such promise
Family / Re: Extortion, Corruption At Ikoyi Marriage Registry by marcelbli: 4:27pm On Jul 02, 2021
The system at that Ikoyi registry is very bad. I got married there and I was almost frustrated just for the fact that I registered and made my payments online.

Worrying part is you will not even get succour from the Registrar as the lady sitting beside him will collect N2,000 from you before she will even check to confirm your online application is fine.

They just actively and brazenly discourage the use of the online application even though they have a banner in front the registry that registrations are online.
