10 secrets guys wish ladies knew At one point or the other, everyone would have wished others could understand them better, especially in relationship matters. However, because of differences in background, the wish remains there are several relationship secrets, gathered from psychologists who study gender roles that can help women discern what men would really like them to know. Here are just 10 of the tips: 1. Men think about Sex … a lot OK, so maybe this one is no secret. Most men under age 60 think about sex at least once a day, compared with only a quarter of women. And that’s not all. Men fantasize about sex nearly twice as often as women do, and their fantasies are much more varied. They also think more about casual sex than women do. But thinking is not the same as doing. 2. Shared activities form bonds Men strengthen their relationships with their partners through doing things together, more than by sharing thoughts or feelings. For many men, activities like sports and sex make them feel closer to their partner. 3. Men need time for themselves While shared activities are important, men also need time for themselves. Whether your guy enjoys golf, gardening, or working out at the gym, encourage him to pursue his hobbies, while you make time for your own. When both partners have space to nurture their individuality, they have more to give to each other. 4. Men let go faster than women Women tend to remember negative experiences longer and may have lingering feelings of stress, anxiety, or sadness. In contrast, men are less likely to dwell on unpleasant events and tend to move on more quickly. So while you may still want to talk about last night’s argument, your guy may have already forgotten about it. 5. Men respond to appreciation Showing appreciation for your guy can make a big difference in the way he acts. Take parenting: Studies show that fathers are more involved in care-giving when their wives value their involvement and see them as competent. 6. Men say ‘I Love You’ with actions Some men prefer to show their feelings through actions rather than words. Your guy may say “I love you” by fixing things around the house, tidying up the yard, or even taking out the trash — anything that makes your world a better place. 7. Men find sex significant It’s a myth that most men think sex is just sex. For many, sex is a very important act between two committed people. And just like most women, men find sexual intimacy to be most satisfying within a committed relationship. One reason is that long-term partners know how to please one another better than strangers do. 8. He likes it when you initiate sex Most guys feel as though they’re the ones who always initiate sex. But they also like to be pursued and wish their partner would take the lead more often. Don’t be shy about letting your guy know you’re in the mood. Initiating sex some of the time may lead to a higher level of satisfaction for both of you. 9. Guys aren’t always up for sex Men, much to many women’s surprise, aren’t always in the mood for sex. Just like women, men are often stressed by the demands of work, family, and paying the bills. And stress is a big libido crusher. When a guy says, “not tonight,” it doesn’t mean he’s lost interest in you. He just means he doesn’t want to have sex right then. 10. Men may stray when needs aren’t met If a man doesn’t feel loved and appreciated in his relationship, he may turn elsewhere for satisfaction. For one man, that may mean burying himself in work. Another may develop a fixation on sports or video games. And some men cheat. To avoid this, partners need to work together to meet each other’s needs. |
10 ways to beat the hot weather High temperature occasioned by the tropical sun in Nigeria is not a new experience. However, coupled with the realities of climate change and the prevailing economic situation in the country, many are coming face to face with the harshness of the sun for the first time. The rains have tarried in coming along this year. And the challenges being faced in the country’s power sector have ruled out air conditioners as an alternative for many individuals, even corporate organisations. The fuel scarcity that has lingered for more than a month now has also forced many to stay longer in the sun. Though, the human body adapts accordingly and as seamlessly as possible, many have suffered the consequences of the extreme temperature. The consequence for some has been mere heat exhaustion which can quickly be battled with drinks of cold water and a rest in a cool environment. Meanwhile, for some it has been heat stroke, which is more severe and requires medical attention. Before the rain comes though, here are a few measures you can take to reduce the effect of the heat on your health: Drink Water Drinking water helps to hydrate and replenish your body. When the temperature is high, the body automatically reacts by sweating. That may be the body’s way of cooling the temperature but it is also losing water. Extreme dehydration may make the body weak and it may lead to dizziness and fainting. So you need to drink water. Photo credit: nationalgeographic.com 2. Shower as often as possible Showering will help cool the body temperature naturally. It will also help curbing issues with body odour that may be occasioned by heavy sweating. photo credit clipartqueen.com 3. Cool Your Pulse The National Sleep Foundation recommended placing a damp washcloth in the freezer to create an easy, cooling compress, reports accuweather.com. Placing the frozen cloth on your wrists or any pulse points will bring an icy shock to your body. If you do not have an ice pack, leave your wrists under cold, running water for 30 seconds. This will cool the blood in your veins and provide some instant relief. Photo credit: huffpost.com Avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeine As much as cold bottles of beer or energy drinks may look appealing in the hot sun, it would be a bad idea to take these substances as they act as diuretics and promote dehydration. Seek shelter in air conditioned public places Try to visit public buildings with air conditioning during the hottest hours of the day if the heat becomes unbearable, counsels medicinenet.com. Libraries, shopping malls, and movie theaters can all be good places to cool down. Photo credit:123rf.com 6. Keep it loose and light Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-coloured clothing, says the American Red Cross society. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays. Slow down If you can, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day. Photo credit: exploremeditation.com Don’t leave the children Never leave children, pets in the car, the inside temperature of the car can quickly reach 120 degrees. 9. Mind what you eat Don’t eat large protein-rich meals that can increase metabolic heat and warm the body. photo credit: fitday.com 10. Eliminate extra sources of heat Incandescent light bulbs can generate unnecessary heat, as can computers or appliances left running. Eat fresh foods that do not require you to use the oven or stove to prepare. Image credit: bhphotovideo.com |
