I’m excited about your interest in making our nation, Nigeria a better place to live and work! Many of us change agents utilize the platform of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to make an impact in our communities. Currently, there is a bill that has passed second reading, HB385 sponsored by Hon Umar Buba Jubril that mandates a committee to regulate NGOs. - The approval is renewed every 2 years - Once the bill becomes law every NGO has to apply otherwise can be shut down - The committee includes representatives from ministries, 3 NGO representatives, and 6 members representing the Geopolitical zones. - The agency at its discretion can deny approval - Each project the NGO engages in has to be approved - Approve work permits for expatriate employees There are many other layers of bureaucracy associated with this legislation. Most NGO experts believe they can self-regulate to ensure that they can fish out the fraudsters in the mix. Others mention there are several agencies that regulate NGOs like the corporate affairs commission (CAC), The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and many others. Transform Nigeria is concerned about this bill because many change agents like yourself utilize the NGO platform to provide services to our communities. Will this be in jeopardy based on the government’s discretion? If we mobilize to kill the bill, what is the alternative? I want to hear your thoughts. Please take this survey so we can hear from you. Remember, this is our nation and it is up to us to Transform Nigeria. View the NGO Regulation Bill: https://transformnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Transform-Nigeria-NGO-Regulation-Bill.pdf Should the Nigerian Government Regulate NGOs? let us know your thoughts in the comments section. Transform Nigeria is a community of people who care about our country Nigeria. Every country has its problems including the western nations. My experience in Advocacy in Chicago Illinois and the United States proves it. I worked on Criminal Justice reform, Immigration, health-care, education, housing and the list goes on. In spite of the issues, people are still patriotic and loyal to the United States of America. Nigeria has problems we all understand that but we need to learn to love our nation. If we love our nation, we would not pollute the air with toxic fumes and the land with toxic waste. If we love our nation we would not steal from its treasury with impunity. Transform Nigeria wants to bring back the love we are supposed to be having for our country. John F. Kennedy former president of the United States said: “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”. We as Nigerians need to love our nation; it’s the only one we have. There are many change agents doing things to make our country better and improve its reputation in the world’s space. Some of the smartest people in the world are Nigerian. Let us showcase your work and what you are doing to make the country better in your own way. If we consolidate our efforts and learn to love our nation and one another, greatness will come to us and our generations to come. Join our community, send your videos, articles and subscribe to feel the love for our beloved country again…Thank you.
