darocha1: Shutting down via the power button is never safe. It disrupts the running application on your computer and this creates several bad clusters which eventually results in crashing the hard drive. Please there is a reason OS developers created the °Shut down °Hibernate °Standby etc buttons Shutting down via the power button and through the window's shut down menu is the same as i have customized it. I don't press and hold and is it still not safe? |

joey150: If you force a shut down(which is same as pushing the power button) it dosent fry the motherboard in the pc lol. The computer just can't guarantee that It would save all your unfinished work or properly close all the running applications. Which in turn makes it boot slower on the next startup. Its just like parking in a rush for a journey..your clothes get rumpled but the bag or clothe isnt harmed. na so i take understand am. Dont form Charles Babbage for me here pls. but i've customized it to shut down like the normal shut down |

khalhokage: So long as it's not a forced shutdown(holding down the power button then it doesn't matter) but nevertheless hibernating is better for your hard drive in the long run than shutting down all the time. Noted, i love hibernating.. If i close the lid, it will hibernate thanks |

Patented: I am not am ICT wizz but i beleive it is safe if you have programmed the power button to "shut down". in such a case when you press the power button the computer has become programmed to recognise it as a shut down prompt and will commence normal shut down proceedure. its the long press of the power button that can create a problem as the computer will not shut down but simply go off. Irrespective of how you shut down as long as the computer recofnises it as a shut down command you should be fine. My 2 kobo (by no means an expert opinion) Thanks alot Lalasticlala, this might as well educate others |

Tallesty1: If you customized it to shutdown when power button is pressed then it is really save but holding it until it shuts down is dangerous.
It just like removing a battery from your phone without turning it off. It might never work properly again. thanks, exactly my thought |
Computers › Is Shutting Down Via The Computer's Power Button Really Safe? by Marvel1206(op): 8:10am On Mar 31, 2016 |
I have someone who is always raging anytime i shut down my computer system via the power button as he claims it damages my computer even though i've customized it to shut down any time i press it. (Control panel/Hardware and Sound/ Power options/Change what the power buttons do) and i don't think it has any effect. But from what i know, if you press and hold the power button, it means your computer won't be able to shut down cleanly, you may lose work and file system might get corrupted.. If you try this on windows 95, it will run a scandisk if you boot it back attempting to repair all damages caused by the shut down.
My question is which is the best way to shut down a computer? Power button or windows shut down.. NB: i've customized mine to shut down anytime i press it and i don't press and hold it to force shut down except when the need arises i.e When the computer freezes

Siena: I'm glad you don't encourage 2 or more people sharing a toothbrush, which is what this thread is all about. I can't say what he intends, or doesn't intend to do with regards to sharing a toothbrush.
Any reason why I should "resist quoting you"?
I'm not breaking any forum rules, the "quote" feature is meant to be used, and use it I will. i don't encourage or discourage sharing a toothbrush. I just wanna get people's opinion on the matter |

crackhaus: Nah not really, you only just lost me when I threw your logic back at you.
If sharing a toothbrush with your mom means nothing but a way to prove love, then kissing her in the mouth the way you kiss your girl should mean same. Ok bro, you're entitled to you own opinion |
Family › Re: Can You Use A Toothbrush Your Mother Just Used? by Marvel1206(op): 5:27pm On Mar 30, 2016 |
Siena: I don't understand what the highlighted portion of your statement means, and I wonder why you posted it. A mother gave birth to me, I also have 3 children of my own.
I never had to prove to my mother what she meant to me, by sharing a toothbrush with her, and she would NEVER have dreamt of using my toothbrush. If she used it by accident, she would toss it out, simple.
I would not also expect my children to prove what I mean to them, by using their toothbrushes after I'd accidentally used them myself. It's not hygienic. Ask your dentist if it's a good idea, and see what he or she says.
As I stated previously, if it works for you, that's great, I'm pleased for you. However, asking me if I know what mother means makes no sense, and has no bearing on my choice NOT to share a toothbrush with ANYONE. With me, it's a hygiene thing, simple. very Good |

crackhaus: But is toothbrush expensive? Why do I have to prove I love and adore someone by sharing a toothbrush with them?
I understand the logic and comparison with kissing or cunnilingus but come on, there's a bump to this kind of logic...
Are you also going to start kissing your mom in the mouth on account of your love and adoration for her? Misinterpretation while trying give an explanation |

Siena: No worries. Personally, I would toss that brush out with the trash, but that's me. If you're happy to use a toothbrush that has been used by someone else, that's good for you.
I wish you good health. it's not like am really happy with my toothbrush being used by someone else but i hope you understand what mother means |

Siena: Your statement means you're aware it's NOT appropriate to share a toothbrush with anyone.
As for soaking a toothbrush in a hot saline solution, I don't think a new replacement toothbrush is that expensive, even in Nigeria. ok.. To be sincere with you it really happened to me and i rinsed the brush with water only and used it but i'd prefer soaking in saline |

Siena: Very different from using a brush to probe between your teeth and gums, removing plaque and dislodging tartar. Gums sometimes bleed during brushing, sometimes as a result of the bristles being too hard, or as a result of gum disease.
And you want to share this? It's irresponsible to share a toothbrush under ANY circumstance. Our mouths are full of germs which for the most part are benign, and not harmful to ourselves. Sharing them however, is a different scenario.
Germs are NOT to be shared, as you could end up creating strains that sre resistant to antibiotics, making them harder to treat. This is one of the reasons a couple who are both HIV+ still need to protect themselves during intercourse.
Out of interest, what's your take on sharing a toothbrush? Soak the brush in hot water with salt and use it |

Sh*t happens, let's assume you woke up in the morning, went to the bathroom to brush your teeth only to find out your toothbrush is wet, you inquired about the person who tampered with it and you find out it was your mother who mistakened it for her brush and she apologises... What would you do? Don't forget to check my signature |
