Jonathan Ukpo Nwanmini, younger brother of David Ukpo Nwanmini, an alleged victim of organ trafficking involving Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife in the United Kingdom, has reacted to the controversy surrounding his brother’s age.

While David’s passport shared online revealed he is 22-years-old in contrast to him allegedly telling Metropolitan police detectives that he is 15-years-old, his brother told Sunday Vanguard that he is 25-years-old.

He also disclosed that David told him he’s traveling abroad to school. Jonathan said;

”David is my elder brother because we are both of the same father with different mothers and we hail from Ebonyi State. I will be 22 years old by next month and David is 25 years old. I am aware that he travelled because he told me. He did not disclose the country he was travelling to. He simply told me he was going to school abroad.

“After some months of not hearing from him, I got his number from his girlfriend and called him. I asked about his studies and work.

“He said it was fine but that he was not working yet as he needed to go to school first before he could be given a working paper. I told him about our dad who was not feeling fine.

“This was the conversation we had this month since January when he travelled. He was staying with us here in Ikotun before he left. We both sell phone accessories. We spoke last week. We even spoke again this week.”



Another businessman in Ikotun who pleaded anonymity also told Sunday Vanguard that;

“David left Nigeria in January. He told us that someone promised to sponsor his education in the UK. He never mentioned the name of the person, but from what I have read online, it might be that the person was an intermediary between David and the former Deputy Speaker.”



Recall that on Thursday June 23, the Metropolitan Police announced that Ekweremadu and his wife were charged to court over the allegation of bringing a child with the name David to the UK for organ harvesting.

The Daughter of Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu who required a kidney donation was revealed to be Ms. Sonia Ekweremadu in real life Photos.Senator Ike Ekweremadu notified the UK authorities that he was transporting the individual abroad for a kidney transplant for his daughter in a letter that was submitted with the visa application of an alleged homeless child.
According to a document obtained, Mr. Ekweremadu sought for David Ukpo’s visa on December 28, 2021.

“I am writing in support of Mr. Ukpo Nwamini David’s visa application as he undergoes medical testing in preparation for donating a kidney to Ms. Sonia Ekweremadu.I’ll be covering the costs while David and Sonia are in the Royal Free Hospital in London. A statement of my bank account is provided, the letter stated.

“Ike and Beatrice Ekweremadu are both in court today facing accusations of conspiring to sell people for the purpose of harvesting their organs.

Ekweremadu and his wife were subsequently denied bail in court, and the case adjourned to July 7 for further hearing.

A Nigerian, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, have been arrested by the United Kingdom for organ harvesting.
The metropolitan police who confirmed the arrest on Thursday said the duo was charged with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs.

The arrest followed an investigation by the force’s specialist crime team.

The Police said that they have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting,” the statement reads.

“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support.

“As criminal proceedings are now under way we will not be providing further details.”

As at the time of filing this report, PREMIER UPDATE cannot confirm if the identity is that of Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

However, Mr. Uche Anichukwu, media aide to Ekweremadu promised to revert after calls were put in to confirm the report.

Madam Caroline Madu, the mother of the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, yesterday, told a Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, that the gospel singer had only ulcer, and that Osinachi’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu, called her (Caroline) a witch and threatened to kill Osinachi.
The 61-year-old Caroline Madu, who appeared as the first prosecution witness before Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, yesterday, told the court how Mr Nwachukwu beat the late songbird and how her plans to rescue her daughter failed.



According to Madu, the last time she set eyes on her daughter was about a year ago when she went for a programme in Enugu, where she (mother) resides.
She told the court that Peter never allowed Osinachi to visit Enugu and even pick up her calls.


She said: “It is about a year since I last saw her. She came for a programme in Enugu and I went there to see her. I have never gone to her house since she got married.

“When I was sick she said she would have to beg her husband first before she can come and see me.

Osinachi had only ulcer— Mother, sister
On Osinachi’s health status, Madu maintained that her daughter only told her that she had ulcer, whereas the husband had claimed she died of lung cancer.

Under cross-examination by Peter Nwachukwu’s counsel, I. A. Aliyu, Favour said she never knew if Osinachi suffered from another ailment.

Upon hearing about her daughter’s death via radio and television on April 8, the grieving mother said people started coming to her house crying and around 7 pm Peter used Osinachi’s number to call to tell her about Osinachi’s death.

Also, in her examination-in-chief by prosecution counsel, Aderonke Imana, sister to Osinachi, Favour Madu, maintained that she never knew of any other sickness Osinachi suffered from, aside ulcer.

“My sister was sound when she got married to Peter. It was only ulcer I knew Osinachi was suffering from, and the sickness was as a result of her husband starving her and the children,” she stressed.

No joy in the marriage
Narrating to the court the relationship between Osinachi and the family, Favour said: “My relationship with my sister was not okay because the husband would not allow her to associate well with me.

Anytime was on phone with her and her tone changed, that means the husband was around. Then I would ask if the manager was around.

That’s what we call him because he was my sister’s manager. So she couldn’t relate well with me because of the fear of her husband.

“We only talked on the phone, not always, we did not see because the husband won’t allow us to visit or call.”

“The relationship wasn’t good because the same man did not allow her to do anything for my siblings. This happened when my father died. They were coming to my father’s village in a car together, He was the one driving and he was driving recklessly, with the whole family in the car.

“Because of the way he was driving, Osinachi said he should take it easy because he was carrying the whole family in the car, he slapped my sister and poured water on her inside the car.

“Coming to the burial, my sister, Osinachi, could not sleep even a day in my father’s house. Peter took all of them to a hotel, while we were there we couldn’t even relate well with Osinachi and her children because of the husband.

“The relationship was hell. No joy, no peace, he beat her like an animal. He did not want her to do anything with our family.

“He insulted her anywhere with slaps and kicks. There was nothing like joy in the marriage.”

Ladipo Johnson as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Johnson hails from Lagos State, South-West Nigeria and contested for the office of governor.

Johnny Depp’s lawyer, Camille Vasquez has reacted to rumor of having an affair with the actor.



Vasquez described the claim as “unethical” and “sexist", adding that she's disappointed people thought her interactions with Depp were in any way “inappropriate or unprofessional.”

In an interview with People, the lawyer who became famous during the actor’s high-profile defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, said;

Following the protest by students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, over the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Edo State Government at its State Executive Council meeting, on Wednesday, suspended all union activities across all state-owned institutions of higher learning.

In a statement made available to The PUNCH by Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser on Media Projects to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, it was gathered that the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, said the affected unions include ASUU, Non-Academic Staff of Universities, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Non-Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, and all allied unions operating across all state-owned tertiary institutions.

Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has jumped into an early lead in the race for the All Progressives Congress, APC, 2023 presidential ticket as sorting of ballots got underway, this morning.

Tinubu’s name was mentioned more often as organisers of the party’s presidential primaries at Eagle Square sorted two ballot boxes.
Tinubu, who had before balloting gotten the endorsement of six aspirants, who stepped down for him, is trailed by former Transportation Minister, Mr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Aspirants who stepped down for Tinubu were Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State; Senator Godswill Akpabio; Professor Ajayi Borroffice; Mr Dimeji Bankole; Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and Mrs Uju Ohanenye

Liverpool have identified Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic as a possible replacement for Sadio Mane, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.
Falk disclosed this in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Sunday.

He tweeted,

“TRUE @LFC is interested in Christian Pulisic (23) as replacement for Sadio Mané @FCBayern @ChelseaFC.”

Pulisic has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Liverpool are planning to take the American international, who joined the Blues in 2019, to Anfield.


Jurgen Klopp’s side are eager to bring in a replacement for Mane, who wants to leave this summer.

The Senegalese is reportedly a target for Bayern Munich, and the Reds want Pulisic to take his place in the team.

Three landlords have died of shock and eight others are said to be hospitalised after officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development alongside security agents and hoodlums demolished about 200 buildings at Oke-Ira community, in the Igbogbo Bayeku Local Council Development Area of the state.



During the 10-hour demolition exercise, three landlords reportedly died from shock, Punch reports.



At least eight landlords were hospitalised due to the trauma of the demolition.



Even more landlords and residents have been rendered homeless following the demolition.



According to the publication, the government team stormed the community with three bulldozers around 10am when some of the landlords and residents had gone to their workplaces.

Former Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima has apologized over comments he made about Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
In an interview with Channels Television on Friday June 3, Shettima shared his thoughts on some All Progressives Congress presidential aspirants. On Osinbajo, he stated that the Vice President is a nice person but people like him should be “selling popcorn and ice cream”.

Reacting to the controversy that trailed his comment on Sunday June 5, the former Governor said he wasn’t trying to “ridicule but, rather, to stir up interest in the contrasting virtues of the cast of aspirants putting up a fight against my preferred aspirant”.

He also claimed that his words were interpreted “literally and overblown”. Shettima wrote;

“When I appeared on Channels TV last Thursday amidst the tension rippling through our political arena, it was to underline the promise of Bola Tinubu’s presidential bid held for those yet to establish the certainty of the hurdle ahead of the APC presidential primary.

“I never set out to denigrate the personality of any aspirant, and definitely not that of my dear friends and allies. None of them is an opponent, so their aspiration isn’t a threat to us.

“They appear so in the sprint to become the party’s presidential flag-bearer in the 2023 elections, but they are our allies in the marathon.

“My assessments of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and Ahmad Lawan, were well-intentioned.

“I never set out to subject them to ridicule but, rather, to stir up interest in the contrasting virtues of the cast of aspirants putting up a fight against my preferred aspirant, one most favoured and advantaged to guarantee APC’s victory in the forthcoming presidential election.

“The interpretations of my remarks on Osinbajo and Lawan are, thus, being done literally and overblown.

“My words weren’t woven to portray them as unworthy aspirants, but merely to qualify them as non-threatening contenders.

“I, however, take full responsibility for my utterances and wish to appeal to our teeming supporters to neither take my words out of their metaphoric contexts nor interpret them as a measure and declaration of hostility towards my dear friends and allies.

“I hereby tender my unreserved apologies to the Vice President and the President of the Senate for the unintended pains my jibes might have caused them and their families and supporters.

“As we approach the finishing line of this tense political race, I’m not unaware of who the actual opponents are.

“A divided house, even if in the assumptions and imaginations of supporters with a distant grasp of our relationships with other aspirants, is the last impression we wish to create among Nigerians.

“I want this to be taken as an appeal to our supporters across all political camps to build bridges and mend fences as the actual journey is just about to begin. Victory, for the discerning, has always been the first lap of the race.”

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Engr Michael Ogiasa, a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan.



Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said Ogiasa was abducted from his community, Otuabagi in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Thursday, June 2, adding that efforts are being made to rescue him.



Ogiasa, who was former cabinet member in the administration of former Bayelsa governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, is also the convener of Voice of the South-South, a socio-political group at the forefront to draft Jonathan into the 2023 Presidency.



Sources said Ogiasa's family kept the abduction under wraps believing that the kidnappers would contact the family for ransom to be paid quietly.



However close to 48 hours after his kidnap and no word from his abductors the family had to report the incident to the Police for investigation and possibly his rescue.



According to a source in the community who spoke to Sun, Ogiasa had just finished a meeting in the community when gunmen numbering eight invaded his house just as he arrived from the meeting and whisked him away.



"He had actually planned to return to Yenagoa at the end of the meeting but some people prevailed on him to wait till the next morning. He was indoors when the gunmen arrived and abducted him,” the source added.

Phoenix police say nine people, including an older teenage boy, were shot at a north Phoenix strip mall on Saturday morning, June 4.



According to the Phoenix Police Department, three of the injured have life-threatening injuries. One of those victims has been pronounced dead.



Officers said it happened after 1 a.m.



Sgt. Andy Williams said detectives believe a confrontation ended in a shooting with nine people shot.



One person died after being taken to the hospital, while two women suffered life-threatening injuries. Williams said an older teenage boy was also among those shot, but he is expected to be OK.

During a news conference, Williams stated that a group of about 100 people were at the strip mall during the shooting. The victims’ ages weren’t clear, but Williams said he believed they were between 17 and 24.

Video from the scene showed several officers and detectives with crime-scene tape restricting access to the scene. Police expect that area to be closed throughout the morning as an extensive investigation is underway.



No arrests have been made.
