My heart will always have a special place for “Made in China” wristwatches. In fact, wristwatches were the first product I ever imported from China. They are cost efficient to ship and highly customizable. Wristwatches are also a fairly “small business friendly” product since they don’t require a hefty budget to get started with. Let’s begin with the technical aspect of producing and branding watches (You Put your desired name) from a Chinese wholesaler or manufacturer. As with every product, there’s no universal standard for “good quality”. A product is more than its name, it’s a system of components and materials. Another thing you should keep in mind is that, when producing and branding goods from China, Chinese suppliers expect YOU to provide them with detailed product specifications of your wristwatch. Therefore, this is the first thing we’ll look into. Case material The watch-case is the biggest “quality indicator” of the watch and when it comes to the material you basically have two options: Zinc alloy and Stainless steel. The latter often costs 4 – 5 times more than a Zinc alloy case. Not only because stainless steel is more expensive than Zinc alloy, but also because it takes a long time to polish a Stainless steel case. The material of choice is completely dependent on which market segment you intend to reach. A stainless steel case will however be expected for any watch that costs more than USD 70. Case thickness Thin cases have been fashionable for a few years. Most Chinese suppliers can manufacture cases as thin as 6 mm. However, a case cannot be thinner than the movement that’s inside. Therefore you’ll be limited to movements from Japan and Switzerland since Chinese movements usually require a case thicker than 8 mm. However, the price difference is very small (USD 1 – 1.5) and most Chinese manufacturers can offer Japanese and Swiss movements. Movement (clockwork) The movement is the internal mechanism that makes an otherwise useless piece of metal into a fully functioning wristwatch. Most Chinese suppliers can offer various movements of different origin and quality. The price difference between a Japanese or Swiss movement is often small compared to a Chinese made movement. Personally I recommend you invest an extra dollar per watch and get a better movement. The term “movement” originally referred exclusively to mechanical clockworks. However, the same term is usually (at least in China) applied to electronic quartz timepieces. Dial The dial, or watch face as it’s often called, is highly customizable. Most suppliers can offer customized colors and dials in various materials, often metallic. The dial is also where you should put your logo. Pretty much every Chinese watch manufacturer worthy of the name can offer logo print on the dial for a very low cost. Usually it doesn’t cost more than 30 – 40 cents extra per piece to have your desire name printed on it. Watch strap Unless you plan to start selling pocket watches, you need a wristband. You have several options when it comes to the materials: zinc alloy, stainless steel, PU leather, authentic leather and nylon fabric. Minimum order quantities Most Chinese watch manufacturers accept orders as small as 300 pieces. This translates into an investment of USD 800 to USD 5600 (Depending on the quality and design of the wrist watch you are producing). However, this certainly is a product where small businesses can get a foothold without taking out a million Naira bank loan. A few personal suggestions for wristwatch importers My general advice for importers is to aim for the middle ground. You won’t be able to compete with Hublot on quality and forget about competing with Michael Kors on pricing. You need to be somewhere in between if you wish to launch a competitive product. Below I list how I would import watches from China: 1. Create a brand instead of using the suppliers’ brand. All you need to do is to design a logo in Photoshop and select a few Pantone colors (You can contract a good graphic designer for this if you don't know how). A brand doesn’t have to be famous to be successful. With the right marketing strategy and partnership, you can make tons of money from the business. 2. Invest a few extra dollars in decent components and materials. A stainless steel watch with a Japanese movement and good design is certainly going to offer a much better return on investment. Investing 50% more on the unit price can increase your profit margin to 400 – 500%. Source: www.importationwealth.com Lives in Lagos? Attend a "Free" Mini Importation Seminar on Feb 21st. You want a nice and well crafted article and you are not patronizing him, you are still sitting down on a long thing. He is my favorite Nigerian article writer. |
My name is Wale Shonibare, I am a mini importer and I’d like to show you how I created the life I have always wanted for myself. It’s a known fact; there is no Job out there! It’s not easy to get a white collar job and create a life you want for yourself. If you’re tired of living on meager income, if you would love to buy things without thinking of the cost, if you would love to travel round the country and still make money while doing so, this write-up is definitely for you. Just stick around till the end of my epistle. A little about myself… I studied business administration in the University of Lagos, graduated with good grades, but I knew right from my undergraduate days that my degree would not fetch me the kind of money I need to live the “boss” life I have always wanted. I knew the richest people out there don’t work for people, they create their own business and grow it into something very profitable, and that was my goal as an undergraduate, it’s a really good idea, but then I had limitations. How possible is it for an undergraduate like me to raise enough capital that would start a business and make huge profit within the shortest time frame? I had ideas, but the money to bring my ideas into reality was a stumbling block. I saved all I could, but my savings was too small, it wouldn’t get me anywhere. Day to day, I kept struggling, but then in my penultimate year, something magical happened, I “stumbled” upon the importation business, and my story changed for good! I said stumbled upon because I never thought something so profitable could be so easy. Three years later, as I type this story of mine, I am more than happy I invested my little capital in the mini importation business, because I have no regret whatsoever. As a result of this, I have decided to teach as many that care to listen, how I make a living from mini importation business, this lead to the creation of blog (http://www.importationwealth.com) where I publish explicit information about the mini importation business, and answer questions asked by my readers. So far, the blog has been able to cater for the needs of interested followers, but sometimes, I have to answer questions on critical issues that would be better explained physically, some of my readers would also want to attend a live seminar on how to break into the importation business, hence, I feel there is a need to organize a real life seminar for those that really want to break into the business, and I think that explains the purpose of this write up… Next Saturday, I would be holding a physical training seminar on the importation business in Lagos, and of course it’s a FREE TRAINING PROGRAM for those that are willing to make good fortune off the importation business. I will use this write up to explain what the core focus of the seminar would be about, why I am giving out such valuable information for free, what you gain for attending the seminar, and other frequently asked question pertaining the importation business. For a start, I’d like to point out that I might not be able to persuade you with words on whether you should come or not, after all am not an information marketer, and the act of persuasion is not really my area of specialty, but I would do my best to align the benefit of attending this seminar, and why it won’t be a waste of your precious time. What will the seminar cover? 1. No-bull-shit hands on information on what importation business entails. 2. Complete Guide on How to buy from China at a relatively cheap price 3. Explicit guide on making payment and clearing your goods 4. Hands on information on what to buy, where to buy them and when to buy them 5. A secret website where I buy goods at a very cheap price compared to the popular Chinese Aliexpress and Dhgate. 6. An experimental guide on how to sell your goods in Nigeria, with proves on how I make hundreds of thousands from popular online merchants like (Jumia and Konga) in Nigeria. 7. A complete walk through guide on what to and what not to do as an importer. 8. I will also share tips on how to promote your business, especially if you’re not a good marketer (like me). It’s a reasonable question to therefore ask why I choose to share this quality information with you and bunch of other people for free… I am making enough from this business, my profit at the end of the month is huge enough to cater for my luxury life, and I am contented with that. It’s a popular and reasonable saying, that if a marketer is really making enough from what he is marketing, he shouldn’t really charge people any amount of money before teaching them how to climb the rope, and this is exactly what I intend to do… By not charging a dime as the registration fee for this seminar, it shows further prove that I am making enough from this business. But then, a smart mind would begin to think that if all this is true, then why would I willingly show others my secret of making money? It’s synonymous to shooting yourself in the leg…. First, I’d like to point out that the mini importation business is not a secret business, hundreds of Nigerians, if not thousands are into it, while some are making money from it, others are failing miserably in the same venture. So I am not revealing an “unknown mystery” to you at the seminar, but rather I would be showing you how to become a pro-mini-importer and making the best of this business opportunity. Sharing my success tips with others does not affect my business, I have made a name for myself in this business already, I have my loyal customers, created a brand for myself, therefore, if I am showing anybody the way into the business, I am not sharing my customers with them, am just showing them how to reach out to those that would buy their good. Nigeria population is in millions, which means the market is huge enough to accommodate virtually everybody without engaging in any fierce competition. In my case, I got to learn about this business at a very early stage, before it became as popular as it is right now, and this gave me an edge over others, I understand the up and down of this business, and that is the best thing about being under my tutelage! When I choose to show you the way, you won’t be starting from where I started (where most people start and get frustrated before the making a dime) but rather you would start from where I am at the moment (the aha! Stage, where you invest and make money within a week or two). My experience count… What then is the real cost of this seminar? Majorly, there are two costs involve: 1. Your time: This is probably the most expensive thing you would be sacrificing from your end. 2. Materials: It’s very easy to share all my knowledge with you within four or five hours of lecture, but then it becomes very overwhelming, you may end up forgetting the important part of the entire seminar, because our brain initially store information in the short term memory compartment of our brain, but continuous repetition would eventually migrate such information to the long term memory compartment. As a result of this, I have documented a large percentage of the information that would be discussed at the seminar and created a course material that would serve as a reference for you, even after leaving the seminar. This material contains as much information as you need on the subject of discussion. It is very important that all attendees purchase this material; it’s a confirmation of your commitment to the learning process. So I have decided to make use of the material purchased as a pre-requisite for attending the seminar. Leaving it to me, I wouldn’t be forced to charge you for the cost of the material, but it is very important to gather a committed set of people who are really interested in the business, and that are willing to invest in themselves in other to increase their worth. Conclusion There are no jobs out there, and this is your best shot at becoming your own boss. Imagine the possibilities of running a business without worrying on the production details? Imagine the possibilities of selling your own goods to millions of Nigerians? Imagine the possibilities of making millions or hundreds of thousands on monthly basis? This is real! And the earlier you get on board, the better it is. Click on the link in my signature for information on how to register |

Earlier, I shared a post on how you can start selling your imported goods for massive profit on Konga Marketplace and also show you proof of my account where I generated over N500,000 revenue within 30 days. Visit my blog to read the article if you missed it. Now, I’m here to share with you how you can start selling on Nigeria’s foremost E-commerce site, Jumia. Selling on Jumia gives you opportunity of earning more compared to Konga, but its not as straight-forward; competition is high. However, with the right attitude and guidance on what sells (I mean sells fast) and what doesn’t, you can turn Jumia to your Bank where you will be harvesting money on a regular basis. Selling imported goods online requires a level of trust from the buyer, the chances of selling your goods to a random buyer is almost zero if your online reputation is next to nothing, generally people find it very difficult to make payment for items before delivery, thus the notion of people being duped online has a negative impact on e-commerce in Nigeria , however the story is different if you’re running your store under the platform of an already established brand, the level of trust increase drastically, mainly because you’re promoting your products through a brand that people trust, the fear of getting duped is almost non-existence, brands like Jumia provides a platform for sellers to reach a wide range of customers across the African continent, in simple terms, running an affiliate store with Jumia is like setting up a store in all countries of the Africa continent. I would discuss in details how to get your items on Jumia, and increase your sales in folds, with little or no investment on setting up your own store. Jumia is an established brand; no doubt about that, they have enough capital to run an e-commerce website, a service headquarters and a reliable customer support service, these factors gives potential buyers a level of assurance, they are also supported by big incorporations such as Visa, First Bank, MTN, MasterCard, e.t.c within and outside the country. Delivering your items to buyers is not an issue of concern when selling your goods on Jumia, mainly because; Jumia has quality delivery service within the continent, as they work in collaboration with DHL courier service. The aim of this write-up is not just to highlight the benefits of selling on Jumia, it’s also important to know the pros and cons of selling on Jumia. Quality is of high importance; if you would be selling your good on Jumia, the quality assurance bar is somewhat high, and failure to pass the quality test might be a hindrance to getting your goods on this platform. This simply means, the goods you would be offering for sale on Jumia should be of high quality. The first step to getting your goods on Jumia, is to visit www., check through the category section to ensure that your goods fits into one of the categories listed on the website, once you’re able to choose a category for your goods, the next line of action is to prepare a business proposal, the idea behind the proposal is very simple, Jumia wants quality products at a relatively cheap price, cheap enough to make a good profit, and also good enough to entice customers the more, your objective on the other hand is to sell your goods at minimal profit within a very short period of time. Reliability is of high priority, once you’re able to write a good proposal that gives your business a good pitch, with information on products you would be supplying them, type it out and contact the customer section of Jumia. Often, prospective sellers are invited to showcase samples of their products, once the quality assurance officer is satisfied with the quality of your product, you reach an agreement on the percentage commission that Jumia earns per sale. Basically, you’re bringing in your products to Jumia store, where they list it on their website for you, and they earn a certain percentage from each sales, selling on Jumia is not as straight forward as other popular E-commerce website, mainly because the website does not allow third party to post items for sale, compared to Konga Marketplace and other popular platform where sellers can post their items with more information. In all sincerity, the competition is a little bit fierce, but there are ways around it, it’s advisable to browse through their website, and keenly observe which of their product is doing well, conduct a price survey, comparing the price of the item on Jumia, and other popular E-commerce store in Nigeria, with the price tag from where you will be importing your goods, the purpose of this survey is to search for items that you can ship in at a relatively cheap price compared to what Jumia is selling theirs, this allows you to carefully decide on what to ship. It’s strictly unadvisable to import trademark items with the intention of selling it on Jumia, mostly because the return on investment would be zero, often established companies like Samsung, HP, e.t.c relates directly with Jumia, hence they deliver their products at a reasonable price. It’s advisable to think along the line of what an average man would use on daily basis, something not too expensive, but yet significant, example of which includes electronic shaving device, wrist watch, shoes, e.t.c. Selling these kind of items has brought me a lot of success, on a bi-weekly basis I receive four to five figures alert from Jumia.
