The founder of Igbo Youth Movement, IYM, and Secretary-General of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, has faulted the claim by the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, that the Yoruba and Igbo share a common ancestry.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Ugochukwu-Uko claimed that the Ooni was sent by a “political lion” from Lagos State to insult the people of the South-East by stating that Yoruba and Igbo share the same ancestry.

He lamented that after Igbo were humiliated during the just-concluded elections in Lagos State, the political lion sent the monarch to woo and deceive people of the South-East ahead of the 2023 elections.

Recall that the Ooni of Ife had recently said the ancestors of the Igbos were buried in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

He had said: “We have to say the truth and the truth must set us all free, we are blood brothers. We should be inseparable. Please feel at home in Yorubaland and respect your Yoruba brothers and sisters too.

“We still have House of Igbo right in this palace till date. We call it Ile Igbo up till now. Our ancestors are buried and transfigured there. That is where kolanut was first discovered and nurtured.

“The Igbos are still the biggest consumers and users of Kolanut which is only planted in Yorubaland till date. Can the Igbos do without kolanut?

“The ancient Igbo house is one of the most sacred places in this palace till date. One of my brother kings – Aka Arogundabi from Iremo quarters saw the mysteries of house of Igbo(Aka-ri-Igbo). Till date, Akarigbo of Remoland still sees house of Igbo as a common heritage of his forebears.”

However, Ugochukwu-Uko dismissed the monarch’s claim, which he described as deception.

He also disclosed that the South-East was an independent and hardworking region.

According to the IYM founder: “The mighty Igbo nation does not depend on anybody to make progress. Ndigbo are sweet people, hardworking people, confident people, dynamic people, gifted people, talented people, and very intelligent people. Our progress on this earth is the hands of God, not any man. Anybody who thinks he can halt or stifle the progress of the Igbo race is wasting his time.

“We shine all over the world, we dominated trade and commerce in the entire West Africa, we engage in business from China, Russia, the whole of Europe, Canada and the United States, South America and Australia. We love education, we love hard work. We also love justice and equity. Those who tried to hold us down in the past, know that God is with us. I can assure you, my dear brother, it is well with Ndigbo.

“Our only problem now is the offensive manner the great Igbo race is been insulted brazenly by two individuals. Ndigbo are pained by this grave unprovoked insult. One of them is the political overlord of a certain region of this country, who through amassing stupendous wealth and the use of strong-arm tactics, decides the political fate of his region. The other is a traditional ruler he anointed not long ago unto a revered traditional stool. Both are taking Ndigbo for a ride, offending and abusing our people, while they both assume they are the smartest people in the universe. Their drama is both funny and sad.

“While the political lion made sure Ndigbo were humiliated in Lagos by making sure Ndigbo were denied the right to vote, the Kabiyesi is going round humouring our people, telling us that we are twin brothers born on the same day and that our love in Tokyo was ordained in Heaven and consummated in the eleventh century. So funny, he just discovered that we are blood relatives, just for the 2023 presidential ambition of the political overlord. Funny he truly thinks our people are fooled.

“Four (4) years ago, another Kabiyesi threatened to drown all our people in lagoon. Now that they are afraid that their unprovoked hostility towards Ndigbo will certainly hurt the 2023 presidential ambition of this overlord, he now sends out the Kabiyesi on assignment to woo and deceive the foolish Igbos. Tell them we are twin brothers, tell them we love them so much, tell them our umbilical cords are tied together and buried at Ile Ife. After that, tell them that we must work together in 2023 because we have a brotherly and joint destiny.

“Their drama is so cheap, so unintelligent, but also offensive. My teenage son asked me: Daddy why didn’t this Oba embark on his fake brotherly sermon and visit before now. Why did he discover we were twin brothers only immediately after the elections? My answer to him was simple: because they think we are fools.”

The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide on Wednesday urged the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)to reconcile with Niger Delta Leader, Asari Dokubo.

The group, in a statement by its President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, also expressed surprise on alleged federal government negotiation with leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to end kidnapping and killings in the country.

It said the government should also dialogue with Biafra agitators who it said were not violent like the herdsmen.

The group said: “IPOB should make peace with Asari Dokubo urgently as the rift is threatening the bond and partnership existing between the South East and South/South.

“Since after the war, the two regions had been enjoying the harmonious relationship between them, so we advocate that IPOB should extend hands of friendship to Asari Dokubo, as we will not allow any misunderstanding between Nnamdi Kanu and Asari Dokubo escalate, and IPOB should use the May 30th to mend fence with ex Niger Delta Agitators rather than Sit at home,” the youths said.

They also called on the federal government to negotiate with the proscribed members of IPOB, Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB) and other Biafra agitators to end the Biafra agitation.

The youths noted 30th of this month when the Biafra agitators will be celebrating Biafra day was an opportunity the federal government have to dialogue with the agitators.

“We are surprised on the meeting between Federal Government represented by Minister of Interior Abdul-Rahman Dambazau and the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN)where a huge carrot is thrown to the herdsmen group to help stop kidnapping and tackle insecurity and clashes between Herdsmen and farmers.The Federal Government should also extend the same gesture of N100bn to The leadership of Massob and Ipob. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

“As Biafrans are celebrating the May 30th Remembrance day, the Federal Government has the opportunity and visible channel to negotiate with the leadership of MASSOB and other Biafra agitators.

“Reaching out to Biafra agitators are imminent to scuttle the mayhem likely to occur over the killings of Igbo’s in the North by Armed herdsmen and bandits.

“It’s on record that about 167 Igbo have fell victims of Armed herdsmen and bandits in North West and East in the last few weeks, tension is building up in the South East ahead of May 30th Biafra remembrance day, Presidency should give Biafrans N100bn to avoid reprisal attacks”.

spiritual leader, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka has stated that Ndigbo do not need to beg anybody to give them Biafra because they are already Biafrans based on its declaration in may, 1967 by Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

He said that what is required
now is just to nurture the Biafra to stardom by bring home all our industries and properties outside Igbo land and labeling all our products made in Biafra.

‘made-in-Biafra’ and export
them to other parts of the world like Taiwan which is still politically under the Republic of China (ROC) is manufacturing their own goods and labeling them made-in-Taiwan”.

On the killings in various parts of the country, by insurgents, Ezeonwuka roared: “these killings got to be put to a stop. Nobody should destroy lives and
properties for his own private rearing business”.

“Government should ban open grazing because with cows destroying farm lands, we cannot survive from hunger. In Nigeria, agriculture is the next
to oil in terms of economic resources and if government
folds its arms and watch cattles destroy our farm lands in the name of open grazing, then we are finished economically”.

“Even if the federal government does not want to ban open grazing, let the state governments do their own banning so that the Fulani herdsmen will start doing their own grazing in their own land and leave other peoples’ lands for them”.

“People should know that God cannot be mocked because as it is now, it seems people are mocking God by trying to take everything alone in this country. The constitution of Nigeria demands that every geo-political zone of this country must have their own share of appointments at the federal level but it is not so for now. All the appointments are still lopsided which means that
some particular ethnic and
religious groups are mocking God”.
