Best remedy to get rid of rats is to seal all the holes inside your apartment. Check for holes in walls, ceilings, floors, wall sockets, sofas, under your back and front doors, etc. Also, don't leave your backdoor open for too long especially in the evenings. Don't leave trash (food waste) around your doors or in your kitchen. It attracts rats.

Check for holes in your bathroom. Rat poison is not so effective anymore. Lastly, develop hatred for rats. This one is very important. If you don't, you will always see rats as normal housemates. I hate rats passionately. Once I notice rat activity in my house, until I get rid of every single one, I don't rest. I am not joking.
