Crime › Commercial Tricycle 'keke Napep' Banned In Jos Plateau State By Operation Safe H by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 8:56am On Aug 27, 2016
The Operation Safe Haven Plateau State has Banned the use of Commercial Tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep within the Jos metropolis from the Hour of 9pm to 5am Daily starting from Friday 26th August, 2016.
The commander Operation Safe Haven, said the command will ensure complete compliance of the ban and has effectively communicated this to the leaders of the tricycle users to also inform their members and make them comply.
He futher said this was eminent following security reports that there was inflows of strangers into the state of people suspected to be Boko Haram members as some of the Keke riders don't even know essential routs in the state and most of those who use commercial tricycle late at night are doing so as a means to commit various crimes.
He said this was a proactive measure to protect a large number of the public.
Most residents in Jos, Plateau State said this new development will pose hard times as they now have to close businesses early because 'keke Napep' has been the major means of transportation within Jos and environs. You will recall that the government of the past administration has earlier banned the use of motor cycle(Okada) within the 'Grater Jos Master Plan' and this has been in effect ever since, bringing to the use of Commercial Tricycle popularly known as keke napep within the city.

Crime › Troops Arrests Suspected Kidnappers In Bauchi State -photos by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 6:23am On Aug 26, 2016
Following a tip off by well meaning Nigerians, troops of 33 Brigade Nigerian Army, deployed at Forward Operation Base (FOB) Toro, Toro Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State, yesterday, August 24, arrested 2 suspected kidnappers; Dayibu Abdullahi and Nasiru Adamu at Badiko village along Gumau road, Toro LGA, Bauchi State.
A statement by Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, said a bag containing the sum of Four Hundred and Thirty Nine Thousand Naira (N439,000.00k) and some personal items were recovered from the suspects. Preliminary investigation shows that the amount was their share from a paid ransom of a recent kidnap incident.

Similarly, another suspected kidnapper, Jibrin Dakam, was arrested same day at Magama, also in Toro LGA, by the troops. Preliminary investigation confirmed that he escaped from their den at Jenge following the military Operation FOREST KUNAMA at Lame-Burra Forest recently. It was further confirmed that he frequently supply alcohol and other stimulants to the kidnappers.

In a related development, troops deployed at "Kano 2" checkpoint near Durum, in Bauchi LGA, of the same unit, also arrested a suspected armed bandit named Adamu Saleh who was found to be in possession of 8 rounds of 7.62mm (Special), 2 mobile telephone handsets and local charms. All the suspects are being interrogated further before their eventual handing over to other relevant security agencies.

Sports › Amazing Photos From #rio2016 Olympics Closing Ceremony by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 10:10am On Aug 22, 2016
Rio marked the occasion with a joyful closing ceremony meant to celebrate a city and a people that defied predictions and pulled off a scaled-back Olympics amid economic and political turmoil.
The Olympic torch was extinguished and Brazil and the world bid farewell on Sunday to the first Olympic Games in South America.

The competition took place as scheduled and there were no major security incidents if you don't count the one fabricated by American swimmers.

USA came first winning a total of 121 Medals, which include 46 Gold, Great Britain second with 27 Gold while China is third with 26 Gold.
Our very own Team Nigeria came in on 78th position in the rankings as published by the organizing committee of the Rio 2016 Olympic games.

Carlos Nuzman, president of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, said during the ceremony:
"We did it. We made it. It was seven years of a lot of struggle and work, but it was worth it. Every minute. Organizing the Games in Rio was a challenge. A successful challenge."
The 2020 Summer Games is set to be hosted in Tokyo.

Sports › Solomon Dalung Responds To Reports That Mikel Obi Paid $4000 To Free Squad by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 8:09am On Aug 13, 2016
After reports that John Mikel Obi paid $4000 to free the Olympic football squad after the team was held to ransom by hotel officials in Sao Paulo over bills incurred by additional NFF officials. The Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has denied the report through a statement released on the Minister's official Facebook page and signed by Nneka Ikem-Anibeze, his Special Adviser on Media .The statement read;

The attention of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has again been drawn to the news that Team Nigeria's Captain John Mikel Obi paid hotel bills accruing from the 8 unaccredited players and officials in Rio with the National U-23 team.

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung, the chief coach of the team Samson Siasia in company of another official had come knocking on his door at about 4am Sao Paolo time. "Siasia was in my room early this morning and said the hotel security had refused to allow the team leave the hotel due to unpaid hotel bills. I also lodged in the same hotel with the Permanent Secretary and other members of the National Assembly who came to watch the match against Columbia. I told him to add the bill to the permanent Secretary's bill so that he can clear it alongside other bills. The amount incurred by the excess officials and players is $4,600. When we checked out of the hotel, the money was added and the Permanent Secretary paid all outstanding bills. I am surprised to hear and read that Mikel Obi saved an embarrassing situation by paying the bills" Dalung stated.

The Minister also restated that 8 unofficially accredited persons have been following the team since they left Atlanta including 4 players and 4 officials. The organizers of the games, the International Olympic Committee are only responsible for 25 accredited players and officials including feeding, flights and accommodation.

"In Manaus, we were forced to pay camp allowances to the extra 4 players making 29. As we speak now, the Nigeria Football Federation is the only federation that does not have a single board member on ground. Not even the Secretary-General is here. So, it is really unfortunate that this is happening. We have paid all players and other athletes their first 11 days in camp and the payment of the rest of the days will commence today( Friday). We want to plead with the players to shelve all actions capable of distracting them from their upcoming game on Saturday against Denmark and channel all grievances through the appropriate route. We remain committed to the welfare of all our athletes in camp as we look forward to giving them our unhindered support" Dalung reassured.

Health › JUTH Workers Protest- 5 Hospitalised As Police Storm JOHESU Protest -photos by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 12:02am On Aug 03, 2016
It’s not the best of times for the Patients, Staff and Management of the Jos university hospital JUTH, as the protest which started peacefully on Monday turned violent on Tuesday, the second day when police officers tried to disperse the workers who had occupied the main entrance of the hospital but failed.

Five persons are currently receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching hospital (JUTH) following the use of gas canisters by police officers on protesting workers of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) of JUTH Tuesday afternoon, persons hospitalised include Mathew Nyam, Nakuza Isreal Daniel, Nanlop Audu and Susan Joseph of catering department while Juliana Ibrahim, an attendant also sustained injuries.

The joint health workers union JOHESU of the university of Jos Teaching Hospital JUTH were protesting the non-implementation of the agreement signed by the hospital management in June and the now insistence of the hospital management to implement the 'no work, no pay' policy only after the workers had called off their strike in June, therefore denying them April and May salaries.

The Workers faulted it on the insensitivity of the hospital management led by the Chief medical Director, Professor Edmund Banwat, calling for his removal. Members of the health workers union described the action of the CMD as unfortunate because he had failed to meet with the union since June 1st, 2016 after signing an MOU with them to discuss the way forward on some of their demands.

Chairman of the Union, Mustapha Kabiru said that the Assistant Police Commissioner, Operation had given the order for the use of gas canisters on them alleging that over 20 canisters had been used directly at protesters. Kabiru called on the federal government to shut down the hospital adding that “we cannot guarantee what will happen tomorrow because our people have been molested".

Treasurer of the union, Vwamse Frederick, who was molested by police officers, said “they asked for the Chairman and the Secretary but they were not around; so I tried to call the chairman but they said I was making calls in front of the Assistant Commissioner and they started beating me.”

Some of the protesters also alleged that area commander gave an order for shooting as one of the patient has a bullet wound and cloths torn.

Police Public Relations Officer, Tyopev Matthias Terna, asked for time to verify the true situation of things before he could comment and said that the Police only went in to prevent the protest from degenerating further into Violence.

Health › JUTH Jos University Teaching Hospital Blocked By Protesting Health Workers by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 6:24pm On Aug 01, 2016
The joint health workers union JOHESU of the university of Jos Teaching Hospital JUTH have today 1st August 2016 staged a peaceful protest barricading the main entrance of the teaching hospital and crippling its activities, the protest started early by 7am as they blocked the entrance. The Workers faulted it on the insensitivity of the hospital management led by the Chief medical Director, Professor Edmond Banwat, calling for his removal.

Speaking to the Plateau state JOHESU Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Kabir, said that the union had resolved to embark on a peaceful protest today pending when their April and May salaries are paid and also pass a vote of no confidence on the top management for total system failure.
He lamented the non implementation of the MOU signed at the instance of the minister of health since they called off the strike on 6th of June. Out of over 2000 staff only about 270 received salaries and some were paid N500, N200 or even N100. He called on the intervention of the Federal Government as a Federal Teaching hospital should not be faced with issues such as this and further called for the removal of the Chief Medical Director and change of the entire management team.
A Doctor in the hospital also confirmed that it was rather an unfortunate situation and it was painful that it has generated to this, stating that the entire management led by the CMD has been Insensitive to the plight of the entire staff and that for the past 7months the hospital has not been effectively functional.
Another hospital worker also confirmed that the hospital seems to be running to a halt as basic facilities in the hospital are unavailable and therefore most hospital services are almost at zero. Most patients have to be taken to other private medical centers for issues that are normally resolved within and further confirmed that some workers received as low as N100 for a month salary after unjust deductions as only a handful have received salaries.
As at the time of filing this report all activities at the hospital was at a stand still as there was no entrance into and out, even the medical students writing their exams seems to all be on a stand still.
The protest is schedule to last the whole day with rumors that the doctors will also join in the protest if issues are not resolved
The Chief Medical Director could not be reached to comment on the happenings in the hospital.

Christianity Etc › Unusual Sunday Trend In Jos Plateau As Shoe Market Emerges -photos by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 7:33pm On Jul 24, 2016
There is an unusual Sunday trend at Ahmadu Bello Way a major part of Jos Plateau State known for commercial activities and often regarded as the computer/GSM village in the state. It now houses shoe hawkers/marketers of all kinds.

The area is famous for being totally locked down and quiet on Sundays as most businesses see it as a resting day. But a trend that started casually with few shoe hawkers, has now developed into a huge market as seen in the photos. matthewteghaBlog correspondent, Speaking to some of the people that were there to purchase shoes, they confirmed that it was the perfect timing and day where they could get some of the best and affordable shoes of all kinds, both new but mostly fairly used shoes.

Some of the Hawkers also confirmed that they come from various other markets within the town because the place is now becoming a Sunday business point for shoes and thereby they make more sales than other days when they go back to their original business points.

Music/Radio › Photos- PMAN President Pretty Okafor In Plateau State To Comfirm New Executives by mathewteghaBLOG(op):
The much talked about PMAN Entertainers Night was held at Dimples Lounge on Saturday 23rd July, 2016 and had awesome performances from some of JTown's finest acts. A major talking point at the event was the presence of the National President of PMAN, Pretty Okafor, as he came in to clear the air on PMAN issues and activities both at the national and state level of the Union.

This was the first event from the new PMAN on the plateau and the main intention of the event was to bring artist together and make the industry open to all. Despite all challenges faced, the new PMAN Executives have a lot to learn as the organization of the event is not yet to required standards.

According to the New PMAN Plateau chairman, Mr Wudel Goyoma, the event was held on a zero budget, it was rather disappointing that such an event would not be sponsored as most cooperate organizations reached for sponsorship never believed in the PMAN project, He urged them to do so as the new PMAN is purpose driven and ready to partner with interested organizations to bring entertainment to its peak in Plateau State.

There were threats before and even during the event that all attendees would be arrested and even the management of the venue jailed, its such a shame that a faceless cabal who have held entertainment on a stand still for over 12 years would even dare that when it has not done anything for the artists on the plateau.

The event rounded off on a musical note as it was anchored by Ice Fm's Twitch and the every gracious Del.

Sports › See Final List Of Players For 2016 Rio Olympics -siasia Names Squad by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 11:38am On Jul 22, 2016
Former U-17 and U-20 striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, was one of the big misses as Nigeria Olympic team coach, Samson Siasia, named his final list of players for the forthcoming Rio Olympic Games.
The Liverpool striker was only able to make the cut as one of the standby players as he failed to make the final 18-man squad list that has now been submitted.
As earlier reported by PREMIUM TIMES, Chelsea midfielder and Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, was selected as one of only two over-aged players, with the other being Chippa United of South Africa goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi. Akpeyi who is expected to be the number one goalkeeper ahead of Emmanuel Daniel.
Another high profile name missing in the Olympic squad is Kenneth Omeruo, who was omitted, as his availability couldn’t be guaranteed for the games.
Also, surprisingly left out of the list is new Greuther Furth of Germany signing, Erhun Obanor. The defender had been a part of the team from the onset and was captain at some point and his omission comes as another surprise.
The Full List

Daniel Akpeyi
Emmanuel Daniel
