Religion / Gov Mutfwang, Sen Lalong Celebrate Revd Gideon Para-mallam On His 65th Birthday by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 8:28pm On Oct 16 |
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State, alongside Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, and Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, joined a global community of well-wishers on 15th October 2024 to celebrate the 65th birthday of The Revd Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam, a distinguished mission leader, advocate for social justice, and peace-builder. Revd. Para-Mallam, the President and CEO of the Gideon & Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, has been recognized for his lifelong commitment to fostering unity, advocating for social justice, and mentoring countless individuals across Nigeria and beyond. In a statement, Governor Mutfwang commended Revd. Para-Mallam’s remarkable contributions as a mentor, describing him as a beacon of hope and leadership. “Your commitment to service, from your early days at NEFES to your work empowering the underserved, is both impactful and exemplary,” the Governor said. He praised Revd. Para-Mallam’s dedication to mentoring students and transforming communities through God’s Word. Highlighting the impact of the Gideon & Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, Governor Mutfwang noted its role in helping victims, including those freed from captivity, and its ongoing efforts to foster harmony between Christians, Muslims, and diverse ethnic groups across Plateau State. He commended Revd. Para-Mallam’s moral integrity, dedication to peace, and commitment to unity, which have greatly benefited the Church, Plateau State, and Nigeria at large. Senator Simon Bako Lalong echoed these sentiments, honoring Para-Mallam for his devotion to humanity and the gospel of Christ. He commended him for his peace-building and reconciliation efforts, especially in Plateau State, and noted that during his tenure as Governor, he had personally witnessed the profound impact of Para-Mallam’s advocacy and humanitarian work. "Through the Funmi and Gideon Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, Rev. Para-Mallam has brought relief and reconciliation to communities deeply affected by crisis," Lalong said, lauding Para-Mallam as a voice for the marginalized and a champion of justice. He prayed for God’s continued grace upon him, wishing him many more years of good health, peace, and divine protection. Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo extended her heartfelt wishes, describing Para-Mallam as a man devoted to the Lord’s vineyard and the nation. She praised his steadfast commitment to spiritual guidance, calling him a man who not only cares for Christian souls but holds the nation’s well-being close to his heart. Piyo highlighted Para-Mallam’s noble character and tireless efforts to uplift and inspire, noting that his words and actions have left a lasting impact on society. She thanked him for his role in shaping the nation’s moral foundation and for his compassion toward the marginalized. Wishing him abundant blessings, she celebrated his dedication as a testament to selflessness. Revd. Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam, while celebrating his 65th birthday with survivors of violent attacks and individuals who have experienced various levels of abduction, expressed deep gratitude for reaching this milestone, calling it a special gift from God. "I am thankful to Him for His tremendous love, mercy, and grace upon my life, family, and ministry," he said. Yet, he shared that the celebration brings mixed emotions: joy for his personal blessings, but sorrow for the many who remain in captivity, particularly young girls like Leah Sharibu (7 years, 2. Alice Ngaddah (7) years, Lilian Gyang Daniel (4years), Praise Austine (3 years), Patience (4) years, Joy (4) years and several others in Boko Haram’s captivity “For years, I’ve observed quiet birthdays as a way of identifying with these women and girls who are enduring forced captivity, stripped of their fundamental right to freedom of religion and belief. The reality is that while we are free to celebrate, they are trapped, longing for liberation. This contrast is heartbreaking, and my thoughts are constantly with them,” he shared. Revd. Para-Mallam’s birthday was spent with survivors from Borno, Adamawa, Gombe, and Plateau states, a poignant reminder of his mission and calling. “I am a missionary at heart, dedicated to social justice and peace,” he said, emphasizing that his passion lies in working toward sustainable peace in Nigeria—a peace that rejects discrimination based on gender, religion, or any form of corruption. In reflecting on his life’s work, Revd. Para-Mallam explained, "My drive is fueled by the goal of helping women and girls in and out of captivity, ensuring they find safety, justice, and dignity.” He expressed his commitment to bridging divides between Christians and Muslims, seeing this as a vital step toward lasting peace. “From experience, I know that peace is possible in Nigeria. Promoting coexistence and understanding between different religious and ethnic communities can significantly reduce the triggers of insecurity in our nation." As he looks to the future, Revd. Para-Mallam pledged to continue his advocacy, giving voice to the voiceless and championing social justice across Nigeria. “So long as God grants me life, I will keep fighting for those whose cries go unheard. Every Nigerian deserves to live in dignity, free from fear. I am committed to seeing that dream fulfilled.” His Vision for Global Peace My vision is to push for peace also to any troubled part of the world whenever God gives me the opportunity to make a small difference. The situation such in Israel and Gaza has been troubling and most disturbing. The level of human suffering needs to be addressed. The security of Israel and the safety of its people is sacrosanct. These must be guaranteed. So also the freedom of the Palestinians and addressing the human sufferings of Gaza’s cannot be denied; under whatever pretext. Taking sides is counterproductive. What peace cannot help achieve war can’t. Israel and Gaza are both going through difficult moments with dire spiritual implications for the entire world, if ignored. As a peace builder, I pray for the peace of Israel and the freedom of the Palestinians. Both are complex but possible. In conclusion, he extended heartfelt prayers for peace and expressed his hope for a Nigeria where all citizens can experience the freedom, security, and unity they deserve. Rev Dr Gideon Para-mallam raised concerns about places like Israel and Gaza with a strong passion and expressed his commitment to continuing his advocacy for the voiceless and championing social justice across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.

Public Enterprise Sales: He advocated for the sale of publicly owned enterprises to Nigerian citizens rather than government officials, to promote transparency and fairness. Judiciary Reforms: Prophet El Buba called for a massive shake-up of the judiciary to remove corrupt judges and ensure justice for all Nigerians. Rail and Waterway Development: He recommended consolidating rail and waterway transportation to ease road traffic and improve goods transportation. Electoral Reforms: He called for immediate reforms in the electoral process and the removal of corrupt individuals from the Nigerian electoral body. Youth Employment and Skills Training: Prophet El Buba emphasized the need for massive investment in public works and industrialization to employ Nigerian youths and proposed the establishment of skill training centers across the country. Prophet El Buba concluded by urging the President to take these actions before August 1, 2024, to demonstrate his commitment to ending bad governance. He stressed that if these demands are not met, the Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria will organize a street rally to demand change. He called for a peaceful and protected rally where Nigerians can express their concerns and aspirations. "We want to see a Nigeria where the government is responsive and responsible, where leaders act with integrity and accountability. This is the time for Nigeria to get it right," Prophet El Buba declared. "Mr. President, this is not a time for talking; it's a time for action." The call to action by Prophet Isa El Buba highlights the growing frustration among Nigerians and the urgent need for government intervention to address the nation's pressing issues. source; https://mathewtegha.com/2024/07/protest-nigerian-cleric-lists-urgent-measures-for-tinubu-to-address-national-crises/

Past successes of the foundation also include Widow’s Mite 1.0, which provided essential items to over 80 widows. These items include, 25kg of rice, 1 gallon of cooking oil, sauces, spices, dried milk, flour, and canned goods. Additionally, about 1000 people were fed, after the Sunday church service. Similarly, the Widow’s Mite 2.0, offered a three days of events, featuring medical testing, free medical insurance for 180 Widows of the Fallen Heroes, with 25 fully paid scholarships granted to the children of the widows to study at federal universities in Nigeria, for a period of four-years. During the event, about 2000 people were fed after the Sunday church service. The third edition of the Widow’s Mite 3.0 witnessed the inauguration of the Kedrick Scribner Vocational Center, a testament to the Foundation’s dedication to widows’ empowerment in Nigeria. The center, promises to offer sewing vocational training and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for the widows and their children. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kedrick Scribner Foundation, Dr. Kedrick Scribner, who is a Minister of the gospel and in Law Enforcement in the United States, while expressing delight over the success of the event shared his motivation for supporting families of the falling heroes in Nigeria: “I grew up in a home, with 4 siblings. My mother was a single parent, we lived in the projects in Baltimore city, which is one of the most dangerous projects in Baltimore city called ‘Murphy Home ‘. My mother worked for Social Security Administration for 50 years, and that is where I got my work ethic from. So growing up, we were poor, but my mother maintained a good home as where there is food on the table, clothes on our backs and made sure that we went to school. This is what has engrained in me to help those that are not as fortunate as myself, because I understand the plight of being poor and I understand what it is like to not be able to have very much and to have your mother go out and slave, just so she could provide something on the table for her children.” Kedrick Scribner Foundation also provided the sum of two million naira (2,000,000) to HEKAN church, Mounted Troops Police Barracks, to support the education of children of the fallen heroes, and orphans in the HEKAN community. Monies provided were solely for the children’s school uniforms, books and tuition fees at the HEKAN school. Dr. Scribner, while speaking with newsmen in Lagos, called on spirited individuals, organizations and government institutions to contribute towards supporting the Widows of the Fallen Heroes, Orphans and the people living in the Valley.

Agriculture / Govt Deploys Agro Rangers To Protect Cultivated Farmlands Of Idps In Plateau by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 9:59pm On Aug 06, 2023 |
In a bid to alleviate the plight of conflict-affected communities in Plateau State, the government has taken a significant step by providing farming interventions to Mangu, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi communities. These areas have recently witnessed devastation caused by conflicts, leading to the destruction of farms and disruption of livelihoods. The official flag-off of the farming intervention took place at Ligitlubang Community in Mangu Local Government Area. Dr. Susan Bentu, the Managing Director and CEO of the Agricultural Services Training Center and Marketing Ltd (ASTC), revealed in an interview with journalists that Governor Caleb Mutfwang directed the intervention to cover communities affected by recent attacks and farm destruction. Dr. Bentu stated that the Plateau State Government has commissioned the Agricultural Services and Training Center and Marketing Ltd ((ASTC) to cultivate lands in areas that suffered from the unfortunate attacks, resulting in the displacement of numerous farmers from their lands. "The Government's intervention comes as a respite for these communities, as His Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang approved the cultivation of 900 hectares of land across three local government areas of Mangu, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom LGAs in the first phase of the intervention" Dr Bentu stated The ASTC boss further stated that the primary objective of this intervention is to enable farmers in these affected communities to salvage what remains of the farming season and prevent their farmlands from going to waste. The state government has also responded to the appeal made by farmers by providing security for the cultivated crops, encouraging displaced persons to return to their homes. She said that despite the advanced stage of the farming season, the government has directed the planting of some late crops, such as beans and soya beans, which are expected to perform well. This move demonstrates the government's commitment to support and revitalize the agricultural sector in the conflict-affected regions. Also speaking, the Deputy Commandant Head of Agro Rangers, NSCDC Plateau State Command, Olusola Bakene, assured farmers that his team is fully mobilized to protect and secure the farmlands. He said the Agro Rangers, specialized trained personnel, will ensure that the crops are shielded from further destruction. Representative from the traditional council and the Chairman Mwagavul Development Association, Bunga District, Mr Dafwat Nanribet expressed his gratitude to the government's intervention. He said after witnessing the destruction of all their cultivated farms earlier in the year, the communities are relieved that the government is taking steps to address their hardships through farming interventions. Some of the farm owners at the cultivation intervention sites including, Elder Ezekiel Dashial and Mr Nanribe Samuel shared their various ordeal and how they suffered attacks on the farmlands and were forced to abandon their crops due to the incessant attacks. However they expressed joy over Governments intervention as it has restored their hopes and further boosted their confidence that the government was putting efforts to ameliorate their sufferings. Politics / Why Former Plateau Governor Lalong Didn't Make Tinubu's Ministerial List by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 12:11pm On Jul 29, 2023 |
President Bola Tinubu's recent release of ministerial names has sparked curiosity and raised eyebrows as some political heavyweights, including former Plateau State Governor, HE Simon Bako Lalong, were conspicuously absent from the list. Being the campaign Director-General and playing a crucial role in securing a resounding victory at the polls during the nationwide campaign, Governor Lalong was widely expected to be among the top contenders for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and now a ministerial position in Nigeria's government, along with other former Governors mentioned in the list. Surprisingly, while some former Governors, even those who defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), made it onto the ministerial list, Governor Lalong's omission has left many shocked and speculating about the reasons behind it. Speculations have arisen, suggesting that Governor Simon Lalong's exclusion might be linked to recent crises in the States Party Structure. Reports indicate that some party stakeholders and leaders, such as Senator Nora Daddut, CJ Dakas, and Hon. Komsol Alphonsus Longgap, the immediate past Federal House of Representatives Member representing Mikang, Qua'an-Pan Shendam Federal, have expressed interest in the Ministerial Slot. Other factors like loyalty to the ruling platform and recommendations from ex-governors and state chapters might also have influenced the selection process with, Governor Lalong holding a high level State APC meeting days before the announcement of the list in an effort to straighten out issues. Some have speculated that the party's decision focused on rewarding most of the states where the APC secured their presidential votes, potentially leaving out states that faced challenges in delivering results or dealing with internal party struggles. States like Adamawa, Bayelsa, Gombe, Kano, Kebbi, Kogi, Lagos, Osun, Plateau, Yobe, and Zamfara are yet to receive ministerial nominations. Prominent figures missing from the list have further fueled speculation, leading to discussions about the possibility of a second list being submitted later. As the nominees prepare to undergo Senate screening, their past affiliations and actions, particularly those like Nyesome Wike, who were perceived to have worked against their party during crucial elections, may come under scrutiny. While the Tinubu Ministerial List has been commended for its commitment to gender representation, evident with the inclusion of seven women, many Nigerians have raised questions about the list, suspecting that some politicians may have been selected solely to receive rewards from the President. Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, delivered the letter to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, emphasizing that Tinubu's list aims to establish a government of inclusion and competence, prioritizing quality, inclusivity, professionalism, and geo-political balance. As the nation eagerly awaits the unfolding of events, the speculations surrounding the ministerial list continue to fuel discussions in political circles and among citizens alike. In an ambitious endeavor to showcase the beauty of Plateau state and promote unity among citizens, Jos Hike It, a popular hiking organization, is gearing up to break the Guinness World Record for the largest hiking expedition. Led by its founder, Comrade Jerry Doubles, the group aims to gather a staggering 5,000 participants for this monumental event, scheduled for September 2023. Jos Hike It has been organizing hikes in the Jos Plateau region and beyond since its inception in 2016. Starting with a modest group of 300 adventure enthusiasts who explored the scenic Shere Hills, the organization has grown exponentially over the years. Every September, the group stages mega hikes in celebration of its anniversary. The success of their hiking expeditions has been remarkable. In 2017, Jos Hike It brought together over 500 people from diverse backgrounds, transcending racial, ethnic, and religious differences. The following year, they doubled the number, reaching a milestone of 1,124 participants. Undeterred, the team set their sights higher and astounded everyone by hosting 3,811 individuals from around the world, including visitors from Canada, the USA, Bangladesh, and other African countries. Their achievement caught the attention of the Guinness World Records team, who informed them that they had unwittingly broken the existing record of 815 participants for a single hike in Iraq. This realization inspired Jos Hike It to pursue the official title and gain global recognition for their efforts. The team contacted Guinness World Records, engaging in correspondence and exploring sponsorship opportunities. For Jos Hike It, the significance of breaking the Guinness World Record extends beyond personal achievement. Plateau state has been plagued by a negative narrative, and the organization aims to change this perception. By showcasing the region's natural beauty and fostering peaceful coexistence, Jos Hike It hopes to position Plateau state as a premier tourism destination within Nigeria and Africa. As the September 2023 deadline approaches, Jos Hike It urges the public to share their thoughts and support their cause. Social media has played a vital role in the organization's growth, and they hope that retweets and engagements on platforms like Twitter could lead to potential sponsorship deals. The team believes that with the support of the community and interested companies, their dream of securing the Guinness World Record can become a reality. Jos Hike It's aspiration to break the Guinness World Record stands not only as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the people of Jos but also as a unifying force for Nigeria and the entire African continent. Through this extraordinary endeavor, they aim to demonstrate that boundaries can be transcended, diversity celebrated, and records shattered, all in the name of unity and adventure.

Politics / Plateau Govt's Coffers Depleted: Gov Mutfwang Shocked By N1.1billion Inherited by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 6:47am On Jun 13, 2023 |
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has raised alarm over the dire financial situation he inherited upon assuming office, revealing that the state government had a meager 1.1 billion naira in its coffers while facing a staggering 11 billion naira in unpaid salaries. Governor Mutfwang made these remarks during a Democracy Day program organized by the Plateau Radio Television Corporation in collaboration with the office of the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor. The event, titled "Unpacking the Time is Now Vision of HE Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang," took place at the PRTV TV Studio in Rayfield, Jos on June 12, 2023. In his address, Governor Mutfwang acknowledged the significant role played by Plateau State in Nigeria's democratic history, from the time of Chief Solomon Lar to the nominations of MKO Abiola and former President Olusegun Obasanjo. However, he lamented that the state had deviated from the ideals of its founding fathers in recent years, necessitating the "Time is Now" campaign mantra during the election. The governor highlighted the pressing challenges facing the civil service, stating that out of the 2.9 billion naira wage bill for February 2023, only 900 million naira had been paid. He disclosed that the state currently owed salaries amounting to 11 billion naira, while inheriting a mere 1.1 billion naira in government funds. Governor Mutfwang expressed his commitment to finding solutions to these financial difficulties, stating that he refrained from pressuring workers to return to their duties until he could secure sufficient funds to pay a portion of their salaries. He assured the public that with the help of God, the situation would improve by the end of the month, enabling the payment of stipends to workers. The governor also highlighted the shocking revelation that no security meetings had been held in the state for the past year, which he believed contributed to the recent upsurge in insecurity. He reassured citizens that he had discussed the security challenges with President Tinubu and pledged to revamp the security apparatus in Plateau State. Governor Mutfwang emphasized the need for unity and bridge-building among communities, irrespective of tribe or faith, as the state grappled with poverty and underdevelopment. He pledged to prioritize the revitalization of the Agricultural Service and Training Centre (ASTC) to boost Agriculture and internally generated revenue. The governor further addressed recent developments, including the dissolution of local government chairmen in the state, which he stated was an intervention made in good faith following the advice of the State House of Assembly. He also mentioned the suspension of recent recruitments by the previous administration, with ongoing investigations to ensure adherence to legal procedures. Governor Mutfwang concluded by announcing plans to launch a Plateau rebranding project later in the year, aimed at showcasing the beauty of the state and attracting investment. As Governor Mutfwang grapples with the financial challenges and security issues plaguing Plateau State, the public remains hopeful that his administration will take decisive action to address these pressing concerns and bring about positive change. Politics / National Population Commission Clarifies Reasons On Postponement Of 2023 Census by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 6:48pm On Jun 09, 2023 |
In a recent breakfast meeting with media professionals at De-Bridge Hotel in Jos, the Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission in Plateau State, Mrs. Cecilia Dapoet, shed light on the reasons behind the postponement of the highly anticipated 2023 census. The meeting aimed to provide clarity and dispel any misconceptions surrounding the decision. Mrs. Dapoet expressed her sincere gratitude to the attending media professionals for their prompt response to the invitation, acknowledging their unwavering support in fulfilling the commission's mandate of providing accurate demographic data for the nation. She reiterated the commission's steadfast commitment to conducting a reliable and credible census for the benefit of Nigeria. The National Population Commission had made substantial progress in preparing for the census, undertaking vital activities such as the Enumeration Area Demarcation Exercise, the First and Second Census Pretests, the Trial Census, and recruitment exercises. However, the commission was on the cusp of conducting the final training for enumerators and supervisors when the decision to postpone was made. Contrary to speculations circulating in the public space, Mrs. Dapoet clarified that the postponement was not a consequence of inadequate funding, as some had presumed. Rather, it was a strategic decision influenced by the government's ongoing transition program and the prevailing post-election atmosphere in the country. The commission exercised prudence to prevent any potential instability and wisely chose to delay the census accordingly. Mrs. Dapoet emphasized that this decision was made in the best interest of the nation. The postponement will allow the new administration to actively participate in the census process. Utilizing this additional time, the commission is taking the opportunity to re-evaluate their Census Work-plan and introduce necessary enhancements to optimize the implementation methodology and ensure a successful outcome. Importantly, the National Population Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving all resources allocated for the census, ensuring their judicious utilization while awaiting the announcement of the new census date. Learning from past experiences marred by issues like undercounting, multiple counting, and inaccurate enumeration, the commission has implemented measures to mitigate political interference during the census process, fostering transparency and reliability. Mrs. Dapoet appealed to the attending media professionals to relay this clarifying message to the citizens of Plateau State, emphasizing the commission's continued reliance on their unwavering support and cooperation as they navigate the preparations for the upcoming census. In conclusion, Mrs. Cecilia Dapoet expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the steadfast support received, extending blessings to the National Population Commission, Plateau State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria as they work collectively towards conducting a comprehensive and accurate 2023 census. Crime / Plateau: DPO Allegedly Locks Down Divisional Police Station Over Missing Fowl by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 11:00am On Mar 29, 2023 |
Plateau residents in the Bokkos Local Government Area of the State have expressed worry over a recent locking of the Divisional Police Station in the LGA over security concerns according to the DPO, Oliver Agu. “Presently, more than 20 personnel are standing outside the Gate since around 7am,” said one resident in the station’s vicinity in Bokkos town. “Many complainants and relations of inmates seeking to bail or feed them are also helpless outside,” said the resident in a telephone interview. The Divisional Police Headquarters in Bokkos has recently been under locks following an official order, the resident said on background. Authorities at the station have explained the lockdown has been thought out for “security reasons”. “There are things I cannot tell you right now,” said the Divisional Police Officer in Bokkos, Superintendent of Police Oliver Agu. “I said the gate should be locked from 10pm and opened at 6am,” said Agu, threatening arrest of reporters for allegedly spreading “falsehood”. But as of 7:30am on Tuesday, photos of the station’s premises showed school children in uniform standing behind a closed gate apparently unable to go out. At least 15 children living in the police barracks were locked out of school despite ongoing term examinations, said the resident. “We don’t know what has gone wrong but we hear he began this action after his fowl reportedly went missing last weekend,” said another resident. “No one has dared to talk to him on this issue. Even the policemen in the station are afraid of him,” said the resident in a phone interview. The police official might have exhausted all options to instill sanity in the station’s vicinity, said a respected community leader in the area, Professor Slim Matawal. “Human rights must be respected in taking such decisions but I am also aware of certain issues that need to be addressed,” said Matawal, a former Director General of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NIBRRI), Abuja. “It is not just within the barrack. The problem of sanitation, alcoholism and violent crimes within the entire Bokkos community in recent times have called for serious concern,” said Matawal who financed the fencing of the Divisional Police Station as well as the building of several outposts in Bokkos. As of the time of filing this report, the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Alfred Alabo had yet to respond to a query sent to him by text message. Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area, Joseph Guluwa however promised to investigate the issue. Responding to a text message from our reporter, Guluwa who was preparing for the funeral of his brother simply wrote “okay” when asked if he could look into the matter. Politics / Just In: Governor Lalong’s Aide Resigns Over Renewed Attacks In Plateau State by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 3:42pm On Nov 18, 2022 |
An aide to Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has announced his resignation following a week of armed attacks in the State’s Bokkos Local Government Area which he said the Governor has ignored. Mr. Alfred Mashat Makut, the Governor’s Special Assistant on Information Communication Technology in a press release on Friday berated Lalong for placing his political interests above the safety of citizens. His resignation followed an overnight raid in the northwest of Bokkos which killed one person and injured seven others according to witnesses. The attack by 300 mercenaries who swarmed over Folloh, a village of more than 1000 people saw more than 20 houses razed. Hours prior to the attack, 100 armed terrorists according to residents killed 11 people in another village 2miles east of Folloh. In an evening invasion of the market town of Maikatako, described by Governor Lalong as worrisome, several houses and a Church were razed. Lalong in a statement on Wednesday afternoon called securities to hunt down the killers. But Makut who is also a rap singer and blogger known by the stage name Seemo D’black C-zar said the Governor has not done enough to secure the State. “Our Government has failed us,” he said. “On the day of APC campaign FLAG-OFF in Jos, Maikatako village in Bokkos was attacked at night by the same marauding Herdsmen. “My dear Governor and Principal, Governor Simon Bako Lalong, whom I have supported with everything I have when it comes to political support, again, did not abandon whatsoever political engagement he had to visit my people, despite how we tried to reach out for that to be done. “The APC as a party that I am a member did not honour the dead and their families of the aggrieved by cancelling any further political activity to honour the dead or even send a high powered delegation from the PCC to console with the good people of Bokkos,” he added. Makut who is a native of Bokkos recalled previous attacks which he said were ignored by the Governor. “On the 18th of July,2016 our paramount ruler, Saf Ron/Kulere La’azarus Agai was murdered in cold blood. Seven years after no one has been arrested or brought to book despite all the protests, pleas, litigations and concerns of the people of Bokkos. I was one of the Youths that led a protest to little Rayfield on 20th July,2016 and ended up been arrested with two of my Brothers. “On 28th January 2020- Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked Kwatas Village killing 15 persons. I wrote an epistle lamenting why Governor Simon Bako Lalong will not visit the family of the Victim or even attend the mass burial. “I will longer be politically correct while the enemy daily makes in-roads in a calculated ethnic cleansing. We can only go to campaign to people that are alive and not people in their graves,” he said, calling justice for victims of attacks. He said, “my people are mourning,my people are in tears, the land is spilled with blood, my people want Justice and my people must get justice. Citizens should be deliberate in addressing issues that set the tone for conflict within our various communities and must also be wary of persons who spread fake news or misinformation to undermine government efforts in responding to the emerging global and local challenges, enforcing poor compliance attitude, curbing misconceptions and myths, addressing inadequate health facilities and building social cohesion. Popular Blogger and Influencer for change, Matthew Tegha made this known as part of activities for Connexus Influencer for Change, One-Day Training on Understanding Fake News, Misinformation and Disinformation with various work professionals at Vintage Hall, Domkat Bali Road Jos South Plateau State on Saturday 30th October 2021. Participants were drawn from various professional fields and were introduced to the ConnexUs Network as a global platform that is amplifying the voices of influencers around the World and a coordination platform for various professionals to connect with practitioners in conflict-affected contexts who are seeking to promote positive change in their society. While also talking about how misinformation has distorted COVID policies and behaviors, Matthew Tegha noted that the world is faced with a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the challenge of an overabundance of information related to the virus has therefore led to the rise of a lot of fake news peddlers. "The discovery of Social media has given rise to various free platforms which are gaining prominence worldwide over the past decade. Easy use of texts, images, recordings/podcasts, videos and innovations of all sorts have been created for positive use but has also generated a wide increase in disseminating fake news in all of its dimensions." Matthew Tegha Said He shared some useful tips on Understanding Fake News and what to do when faced with misinformation as inaccurate information spreads widely and at speed, making it more difficult for the public to identify verified facts and advice from trusted sources, such as the NCDC or WHO. "There is a need to ameliorate the adverse effects of the challenges around us especially as we battle COVID-19. We must encourage more collaboration through evidence-based campaigns using confirmed sources of information of which we as citizens must be front drivers" He said The program is part of activities for ConnexUs Influencer for Change Network and ConnexUs is partnering with Blogger and Middle belt Nigeria Influencer, Matthew Tegha to amplify his activities, towards Responding to Global & Local Challenges also in amplifying the Voices of other Influencers Around the World with the support of the European Union Instrument for Promoting Peace and Stability.

Education / 20 Plateau Schools Get Books And Stationeries To Support Peace Club Activities by mathewteghaBLOG(m): 12:51pm On Oct 08, 2021 |
The Institute of Governance and Social Research in collaboration with Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) organised a Four-day programme for peace clubs under the safe school initiative on the theme “Using Art to Create Awareness on The Dangers of Violent Extremism and Promoting Tolerance”. The Safe school initiative is one of the activities under the project titled “The Youth and Peaceful Co-existence in Community: The Plateau Case” Round II sponsored by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF). The aim of the initiative is to strengthen the capacity of teachers and students to prevent violent extremism and radicalization in schools. Under the safe school initiative, Peace clubs have been established in 20 secondary schools in the 5 LGAs of the Central Senatorial Zone i.e Kanam, Kanke, Pankshin, Mangu and Bokkos LGAs (4 schools per LGA). In March 2021, IGSR organized an activity to support the peace clubs carry out PVE activities and donated educational materials to support the schools. As a follow-up to that activity, the Institute organized an activity to support the peace clubs to organize PVE activities and also donated literature materials to the various schools. The activity took place from the 27th-30th of September 2021 (a day for Kanke and Kanam LGAs and a day each for Pankshin, Mangu and Bokkos LGAs) for 20 secondary schools in the Central Senatorial Zone. The objective of the program was to provide support for peace club activities towards the prevention of violent extremism and radicalization, create awareness on the drivers and effects of violent extremism, promote tolerance among students of different ethnic and religious groups using peace clubs and create a platform for students to share knowledge on peace building. The programme had in attendance representatives from the Plateau State Ministry of Education, representatives of the Local Government Councils, Parent Teachers Association Chairpersons, Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, Teachers and Students from the 20 secondary schools under the Safe School initiative in the 5LGAs. During the activity in the 5 LGAs, there were welcome remarks from IGSR’s staff giving a brief overview of the initiative as well as the importance of the program, which is to support schools in the prevention of Violent Extremism. There were also art presentations (drama, dance and poetry) from the Peace Club students on the following thematic areas: Dangers and Effects of Violent Extremism. The Role of Young People in Preventing Violent Extremism. Tolerance as a Key to Peaceful Coexistence. The activity was highly educative and entertaining as the students made presentations in drama/dance, the activities afforded all participants the opportunity to learnt from themselves as the presentations portrayed lessons on beauty in diversity and that differences should not bring division or violent conflict, but individuals should learn from the various religious and ethnic groups represented in their communities to foster unity, growth and progress. As part of IGSR’s support to the schools, the Institute and its partners, GCERF, donated literature books and stationaries (exercise books, pens, flip charts, markers and so on) to the 20 participating schools. IGSR’s Senior Program Officer, Mr. Samuel Emelis said the literature materials were donated to strengthen their libraries, build a reading culture in the students and to facilitate the organisation of future Peace Club activities in the schools. He urged the schools to make judicious use of the items donated. At the end of the activity, the schools and invited guests appreciated IGSR and its donors GCERF for their continuous efforts in building community resilience to violent extremism as well as ensuring the educational development of the students.
