Chief Johnson Nwosu has been officially crowned Oche Ndi Igbo IV of Jos, following his election as the new leader of the Igbo Community Plateau State.

The coronation and presentation of the staff of office took place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Jossy Royal Hotel, Jos, amid celebrations by members of the Igbo community and well-wishers.

The ceremony attracted representatives of the six Igbo-speaking states, as well as representatives of the Council of Chiefs representing Igbo communities across Plateau State.

Nwosu's emergence followed a peaceful election held on Saturday, October 31, where he secured 210 votes to defeat other contestants.

Described as the youngest Igwe Plateau State has ever had, his coronation is being celebrated as a new beginning for the Igbo community in the state.

The new traditional leader has pledged to unite the Igbo community, promote peaceful coexistence with their host communities and contribute to the development of Plateau State.

Earlier in his acceptance speech, Nwosu thanked members of the Igbo community for their overwhelming support and pledged to unite the various factions while promoting peace, harmony and cooperation.

He called on members to put their differences aside, stressing that no society could achieve meaningful development in an atmosphere of division and rancour.

Nwosu also reaffirmed the community's commitment to contributing to Plateau State's economic and commercial development, while expressing readiness to partner with Governor Caleb Mutfwang's administration.

Similarly, the President-General of the Igbo Community Association in Plateau State, Chief Chidi Onah, congratulated Nwosu, describing his election as a demonstration of unity among Igbo-speaking people.

Onah called on members to rally behind the new traditional leader, noting that the community must speak with one voice and work together to advance its collective interests.

The ceremony attracted representatives of the six Igbo-speaking states, as well as representatives of the Council of Chiefs representing Igbo communities across Plateau State.

Other special guest present were the Chief of Bayelsa and Senior Special Adviser to the Plateau State Governor on South-South Affairs, Hon. High Chief Seigha Smooth Ebide, and Hon. Ikenna Mbanefo, former Special Adviser on Igbo Affairs to the immediate past Governor of Plateau State.

JOS, Nigeria — The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has concluded a peace mission to Plateau State, meeting with Christian and Muslim leaders and visiting communities scarred by recent violence to foster interfaith cooperation and bolster grassroots security initiatives.

Welby’s tour included visits to Angwan Rukuba, where he offered condolences to families affected by the Palm Sunday attacks, and Bassa Local Government Area, a region heavily impacted by persistent insecurity.

Welcoming the delegation in Bassa, His Royal Highness Rt. Rev. Ronku Aka revealed that the community has lost more than 3,000 people to violent attacks over the past decade. Appealing for sustained peace efforts, the traditional ruler emphasized that economic and social development remains impossible without security.

Addressing local residents, Welby assured them that the global community stands in solidarity with Plateau State.

“My message is many people long to see this end and are praying for them around the world. Keep praying, keep working, keep vigilant, and God will deliver,” Welby said.
He also commended ongoing local security measures, specifically praising community efforts to train local vigilantes and deploy CCTV surveillance systems in vulnerable areas.

High-Level Engagements and Community Outreach
Welby was accompanied by a delegation of religious and government representatives, including Prophet Isa El-Buba, Founder of El-Buba Outreach Ministries International (EBOMI); Rev. Steve Dangana, Special Adviser on Religious Affairs to the Plateau State Governor; and Rev. Dr. Dunka Gomwalk, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Plateau State. Earlier in his itinerary, Welby met with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

As part of efforts to bridge religious divides, Welby held strategic talks with the Plateau State Inter-Religious Advisory Council and visited the Jos Central Mosque.

During the meeting at the mosque, the Chief Imam, Sheikh Ghazali Isma'ila Adam, highlighted political manipulation, stereotyping, and youth marginalization as major drivers of conflict. He urged peace advocates to expand their reach beyond high-level leadership.

"Peace initiatives must move beyond meetings among elites and religious leaders to engage directly with young people and communities where conflicts occur," Sheikh Adam stated, advocating for interfaith visits between places of worship to challenge negative stereotypes among younger generations.

Leaders Call for Action Beyond Dialogue
Local religious leaders echoed the call for joint action. Rev. Dr. Pandam Yamsat, Chairman of the Plateau State Inter-Religious Advisory Council, insisted that faith leaders already possess the practical solutions needed to resolve the conflict.

“Peace is doable. If we want peace, we will have it on the Plateau,” Yamsat said, calling on both communities to return to the dialogue table.

Prophet Isa El-Buba emphasized that the loss of life across northern Nigeria affects all citizens regardless of ethnic or religious background. He advocated for targeted social interventions, including structured Islamic education and guidance for Almajiri children to protect them from extremist exploitation.

Dr. Julie Sanda, Director-General of the Plateau Peace Building Agency and Secretary of the Advisory Council, noted that the council's strategy now focuses on direct field presence, with religious leaders accompanying peacebuilding teams into affected communities to offer support and listen to local concerns.

Welby’s visit comes amid ongoing efforts by state authorities, security agencies, and faith-based groups to stabilize Plateau State and establish long-term conflict prevention measures.

The Plateau State Government has commenced a comprehensive assessment of key tourist and heritage sites within the Greater Jos Master Plan as part of efforts to preserve the state's rich natural attractions and develop a sustainable tourism sector.

The inspection tour, conducted on Tuesday, was led by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap (mni) who is also overseeing the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Hospitality. The delegation included officials from the Ministries of Housing and Urban Development, and other relevant agencies.

Among the sites visited were the Gog and Magog rock formations at Shere Hills, the Unity Rock—a naturally occurring rock formation resembling the map of Nigeria in Shere, Rayfield—the iconic Riyom Rock Formation, widely regarded as a symbol of Plateau State, and the historic Mado Tourist Village, a 50-room facility built in 1978 to accommodate visitors to the Jos Wildlife Park and Museum.

During the inspection, government officials expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of some of the sites, particularly the Gog and Magog rock formation, where quarrying activities where ongoing and have reportedly destroyed sections of the natural landscape once popular for hiking and picnics.

Speaking to journalists, Rt. Hon. Ramnap described Plateau State as richly endowed with natural tourism assets that require deliberate protection and development.

"Plateau is blessed with extraordinary natural gifts that can be transformed into major tourism destinations. The purpose of this tour is to identify our heritage sites and ensure they are fully integrated into the Greater Jos Master Plan so that development is comprehensive and sustainable," she said.

According to the commissioner, the state government is working towards developing a tourism policy that will preserve the heritage sites while unlocking their economic potential.

"It is not just about identifying these locations. We want to establish policies that will protect them, assess their strengths and threats, and create long-term development strategies that will stand the test of time," she added.

Ramnap expressed disappointment over the apparent destruction of parts of the Gog and Magog rock formation, noting that government would investigate the activities of the quarry company operating at the site.

"It is sad to see such an important natural attraction being tampered with. From what we have seen, it appears the level of devastation goes beyond what could have been approved. Government will look into the matter and take appropriate steps to protect the site," she said.

She also appealed to tourists, hikers and residents to continue exploring Plateau's natural attractions, describing the state's environment as both therapeutic and economically valuable.

"There is so much to offer on the Plateau. These natural sites provide recreation, healing and opportunities for economic growth through tourism," she said.

Responding to concerns about poor road access and encroachment around some of the tourist locations, the commissioner said the ongoing assessment would guide the development of policies addressing infrastructure, conservation and community partnerships.

"The purpose of this exercise is to gather firsthand information. We are working with consultants, and the findings will help shape policies that include road development and other infrastructure needed to improve access to these sites," she explained.

Also speaking, Architect Joseph Yakwan, Director of Building at the Plateau State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, said the tourism inspection would support the preparation of the Greater Jos Master Plan.

"The Greater Jos Master Plan is being developed by our ministry, and part of our responsibility is to ensure that tourism assets are adequately captured so they can contribute to the city's future development," he said.

At the Riyom Rock Formation, community representative Hon. Terry Davou called on the state government to revitalise the site and restore its status as one of Plateau's leading tourist attractions.

He recalled that the landmark attracted visitors from across Nigeria and abroad during the 1970s and 1980s, contributing significantly to tourism in the area.

"This rock has become one of the symbols of Plateau State. Although there are different stories about its origin, what is important today is preserving it and developing it into a world-class tourist destination. Our community will be delighted if government invests in its restoration and promotion," he said.

The call was made during a roundtable dialogue held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Crispan Hotel in Jos, convened by Equity International Initiative and CYPA Africa in partnership with organised labour groups.

The meeting brought together policy experts, development stakeholders, industry players, and citizens to deliberate on the impact of rising fuel, electricity, and energy-related costs on livelihoods, productivity, and national stability.

Participants noted that although global oil market disruptions have contributed to increased energy prices, Nigeria’s situation is largely driven by structural challenges, including weak governance systems, policy inconsistencies, poor regulation, exchange rate instability, and infrastructure deficits.

They described as paradoxical the fact that Nigeria, despite being a major crude oil producer, continues to grapple with high fuel prices, rising transportation costs, inflation, and declining purchasing power.

The roundtable identified energy costs as a major driver of inflation, affecting food prices, production costs, and the survival of small and medium-scale enterprises. It warned that stagnant incomes amid rising costs are worsening poverty levels across the country.

Stakeholders emphasized that energy should be treated as a critical social and economic necessity rather than just a market commodity, stressing that the current pricing regime has failed to deliver a transparent and competitive market.

They called for urgent reforms, including strengthening domestic refining capacity, improving local production systems, addressing logistics challenges, and reducing dependence on foreign exchange-driven pricing.

The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting outlined key recommendations, including improved transparency in the petroleum value chain, targeted relief measures for citizens and businesses, investment in public transportation, and support for local refining initiatives.

Participants also urged the government to review licenses of non-performing refineries, ensure crude supply to local refineries, and reserve a portion of refined products for domestic consumption to stabilize prices.

In addition, the meeting called for stronger regulatory oversight to prevent exploitation in the downstream sector, as well as fiscal support measures such as tax relief for production and manufacturing companies affected by rising operational costs.

Speaking after the event, Secretary General of the West African Civil Society Forum, James Ugochukwu, said Nigeria’s high fuel prices remain unjustifiable given its status as an oil-producing nation.

He described the current situation as “high pressure” on citizens, urging the government to act on the recommendations and ensure reforms that benefit the wider population rather than a privileged few.

Also speaking, Chris Iyama, highlighted the disconnect between rising living costs and stagnant wages, noting that many Nigerian workers can no longer meet basic needs due to escalating energy expenses.

He called on government officials to demonstrate sacrifice by cutting the cost of governance, stressing that citizens should not bear the burden alone.

Other contributors at the roundtable included labour representatives such as Comrade Kenneth Shama, Dr. Steve Aluko, and Gad Shamaki.

The participants concluded that Nigeria’s energy crisis is not only an economic issue but also a governance and social justice challenge, requiring coordinated national action to ensure affordability, sustainability, and improved living standards for citizens.

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and recovered N8 million ransom paid by her family during a coordinated operation in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The rescue, carried out by troops deployed in Sector 9 Shendam on Saturday, followed days of intelligence gathering after the victim was abducted on April 19, 2026, from the Bauna area of Shendam Local Government Area.

Security sources disclosed that the breakthrough came after the arrest and interrogation of a suspect who confessed to the crime, leading troops to the kidnappers’ hideout in Padam Forest in Qua’an Pan LGA. The victim was subsequently rescued unharmed.

During the operation, troops also recovered the sum of N8 million, which had earlier been paid as ransom by the victim’s family. The money has since been returned to the family.

Following her rescue, the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Shendam for medical examination before being reunited with her relatives.

Military authorities said troops have intensified follow-up operations across Qua’an Pan and Shendam local government areas to track down and apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and dismantling criminal networks within its joint operations area, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support security efforts.

Key stakeholders from government, civil society, and community groups on Tuesday converged in Jos for a multi-level and multi-sectoral roundtable aimed at addressing the persistent farmer-herder conflicts in Plateau State.

The roundtable, themed “Addressing Farmer-Herder Conflicts in the Context of Criminality and Land Disputes,” was organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) in collaboration with the Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PSPBA), with support from GIZ under the Peacecore II Project. The event was held at Novel Suites, Jos.

The engagement brought together state and non-state actors, including government officials, traditional leaders, security agencies, and civil society organizations, to foster dialogue and develop practical strategies for sustainable peace.

Speaking at the event, Country Manager of HD, Dr. Chris Agoha, emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue and coordinated action in addressing the complexities surrounding farmer-herder conflicts.

He noted that violent clashes in the Middle Belt are driven by a mix of factors including land disputes, climate change, banditry, and political manipulation. According to him, the evolving nature of the crisis—now involving kidnapping, cattle rustling, and illegal arms proliferation—has transformed it into a broader security challenge.

Agoha warned that Nigeria’s growing fragility, particularly in rural areas, has created gaps in governance and security, enabling armed groups to thrive. He also cautioned against the increasing reliance on vigilante groups, noting that it often escalates violence and fuels arms proliferation.

Providing updates on the Peacecore II Project, National Expert Adviser of HD Nigeria, Sam Godongs, said the initiative was designed to reduce violence and build resilience across Plateau State through structured coordination and collaboration.

He explained that the project reorganized peace actors across the state’s three senatorial districts to improve coordination and institutionalize peacebuilding efforts under the Plateau State Peace Building Agency.

Godongs highlighted key achievements of the project, including:

18 local-level agreements,
10 zonal agreements,
Two frameworks of agreement with local government chairmen,
Multi-level dialogue engagements,
Increased participation of women in peace processes.

He noted a significant milestone where women led a cross-border peace dialogue in Northern Plateau, influencing neighboring communities in Kaduna State to consider greater inclusion of women in traditional institutions.

Godongs also identified political activities, especially during election periods, as major triggers of violence, citing youth manipulation, drug abuse, and “winner-takes-all” politics as contributing factors.

In his remarks, Plateau State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Veterinary and Fisheries, Dr. Sunday Akpa, downplayed the perception of widespread farmer-herder conflicts, describing many incidents as localized disputes that can be resolved at the community level.

He stressed the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence, noting that conflicts are often exaggerated beyond their actual scale.

According to him, sustainable peace can only be achieved when communities embrace reconciliation and take responsibility for resolving disputes internally.

Akpa also emphasized ongoing government efforts in public enlightenment and the promotion of livestock value chains to create economic opportunities and reduce tensions.

Representing the Director-General of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Dr. Julie Sanda, Kyenmun Bulus commended the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue for its sustained support in strengthening peace structures across the state.

She described the roundtable as timely, noting that farmer-herder conflicts are deeply rooted in issues of land access, identity, and livelihoods, requiring coordinated and inclusive approaches.

Bulus reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening systems that prevent violence, urging participants to focus on practical solutions that will have lasting impact.

The roundtable also featured two highly interactive panel discussions that provided deeper insights into ongoing peacebuilding efforts.

The first panel examined the roles and contributions of various stakeholders in enhancing peace and social cohesion across Plateau State, highlighting ongoing initiatives, challenges, and opportunities for improved collaboration.

The second panel focused on community-driven approaches to addressing insecurity, exploring how local communities can develop and strengthen structures for conflict resolution, early warning, and sustainable peace.

Participants at the roundtable expressed optimism that enhanced collaboration, strengthened early warning systems, and institutionalized peace structures would contribute to a more stable and resilient Plateau State.

The event forms part of ongoing efforts under the Peacecore II Project to build sustainable peace infrastructure and foster long-term stability in conflict-affected communities across the state.

Medical practitioners in Plateau State have issued a fresh seven-day ultimatum to the state government, warning of an imminent strike over unresolved salary and welfare concerns.

The ultimatum was jointly conveyed through separate communications by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Plateau State Specialist Hospital chapter, and the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners of Nigeria (NAGGMDP).

In a letter dated April 20, 2026, the ARD expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to act on its earlier request made in December 2025 for a review of doctors’ remuneration in line with the latest national salary structure. The association noted that the delay has led to an exodus of doctors from the state, worsening an already strained healthcare workforce.

The group warned that it may withdraw services if concrete steps are not taken before the expiration of the ultimatum on April 27, 2026.

Similarly, the NAGGMDP, in its own notice dated April 16, 2026, decried the non-implementation of the corrected Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and other approved allowances as released by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.

The association outlined key demands, including the full implementation of the revised CONMESS salary structure, payment of all outstanding allowances, and the application of CONMESS 7 to its members.

According to the practitioners, the demands are in line with existing agreements and are critical to maintaining professional morale and ensuring effective healthcare delivery across the state.

Both groups stressed that failure by the government to meet their demands within the stipulated timeframe could lead to industrial action, raising concerns over potential disruptions in healthcare services across Plateau State.

As of press time, the Plateau State Government had yet to issue an official response to the ultimatum.

The Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, on April 18, 2026, organized a 17-kilometre Inter-Tribal Unity Race in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State as part of efforts to strengthen peace and civil-military relations.

The event, held at the Mangu Mini Stadium, marked the maiden edition of the Maj. Gen. EF Oyinlola Inter-Tribal Peace and Unity Race Competition. It brought together male and female youths from different ethnic and religious backgrounds across the local government area.

Speaking at the event, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Maj Gen Folunsho Oyinlola, said the marathon formed part of the task force’s non-kinetic strategies aimed at fostering unity, understanding, and peaceful coexistence among communities.

He noted that sports remain a powerful tool for bridging divides and building trust, stressing that such initiatives complement ongoing efforts to address security challenges across Plateau State and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States.

Oyinlola also highlighted previous interventions by the task force, including stakeholder engagements and distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers in affected communities, aimed at enhancing food security and economic stability.

In his welcome address, the Commander, Sector 8 of Operation ENDURING PEACE in Mangu, Lt Col Ofem John Ofem, said the marathon was designed not only as a sporting event but also as a platform to promote peaceful coexistence, discipline, and unity among diverse groups.

He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to help tackle insecurity and sustain peace in the area.

Expressing his appreciation, the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, Hon Bala Mwolpun, commended the military for restoring stability to communities that were previously affected by insecurity.

He pledged the support of his administration in sustaining ongoing peace initiatives and appealed for continued military presence in the area, particularly to safeguard farmers during the upcoming planting season.

The event also drew commendation from Ziphion Chrysanthus Terkop, Liaison Director on Security to the Plateau State Governor, who was impressed by the resilience of young participants. He announced full secondary school scholarships and cash rewards of ₦100,000 each for the two youngest participants.

Terkop noted that the gesture was a symbolic investment in the younger generation, describing them as future ambassadors of peace in the state.

Participants competed for cash prizes, with winners in both male and female categories receiving ₦200,000 each, while second and third positions were awarded ₦150,000 and ₦100,000 respectively.

The event later moved to the commissioning of a new office block for the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion XII in Mangu, with facilities that includes an Operations Center and a Medical Outpost, significantly upgrading the logistical and response capabilities of the troops stationed in the sector.

The political support group, Peter Obi Our President (PETOOP), has called for the zoning of the 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria and demanded the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, over alleged partisanship.

The group made its position known during a press briefing held on April 18, 2026, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Jos, Plateau State. Addressing journalists and stakeholders, the National Convener of the group, Magnus Oraka, said Nigeria was at a critical point requiring urgent political reforms to safeguard its democratic future.

Speaking on the 2027 general elections, Oraka advised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to zone its presidential ticket to the South, warning that presenting a Northern candidate could split opposition votes and inadvertently favour the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, such a move would strengthen the chances of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu securing a second term in office. He urged the ADC to prioritize equity and political balance, rather than expediency.

The group also took aim at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent comments suggesting the North should produce the next president. Oraka argued that a broader historical assessment of Nigeria’s leadership since independence in 1960 shows that the North has held power for a longer period, thereby strengthening the South’s claim to the presidency in 2027.

He described Atiku’s continued presidential ambition as counterproductive to national unity and advised him to step aside in the interest of fairness and cohesion.

On electoral integrity, PETOOP accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias and undue interference in party affairs, particularly within the ADC. The group alleged that the commission, under Prof. Amupitan, had compromised its neutrality by failing to act impartially in internal party disputes.

Oraka further cited concerns over alleged public statements attributed to the INEC chairman, which he said raised doubts about the commission’s ability to conduct free, fair, and credible elections.

Consequently, the group demanded the immediate resignation of Prof. Amupitan, urging President Tinubu to remove him if he fails to step down voluntarily. It also called on the National Assembly to intervene where necessary to restore public confidence in the electoral body.

Women Lead Cross-Border Peace Accord Between Plateau and Kaduna Communities

A landmark step toward sustainable peace was recorded on Friday as women from conflict-affected communities in Plateau and Kaduna States signed a Women-led Cross-Border Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

The signing ceremony, held on April 10, 2026, at Jonggrand Hotel in Jos, brought together key stakeholders from Riyom and Bassa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau State, and Kaura and Kauru LGAs of Kaduna State.

The initiative, organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in collaboration with the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, aims to strengthen peacebuilding efforts and foster cooperation across the affected border communities.

The event attracted government officials, traditional and religious leaders, civil society partners, and women leaders, all gathered to endorse the agreement developed through months of dialogue and community engagement.

Providing an overview of the peace process, Senior National Expert Adviser of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, Samuel Godongs, emphasized the critical role of women in conflict resolution. He noted that women and children bear the brunt of violent conflicts, underscoring the need to include women in peace negotiations.

Godongs explained that the agreement emerged from a joint steering committee representing the four LGAs after a series of trainings and facilitated dialogues. He stressed that while the signing marks a major milestone, it signals the beginning of implementation rather than the end of conflict challenges.

Former Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe, highlighted the importance of women’s inclusion in peacebuilding processes. She noted that the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue has been active in Plateau State since 2013, promoting dialogue among communities.

According to her, the women-led initiative, introduced last year, has empowered participants to identify and document actionable steps to promote peace within their communities. She urged stakeholders to move beyond signing agreements and ensure practical implementation.

Also speaking, Country Manager of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, Chris Agoha, represented by Ahmed Yassin, described the agreement as the culmination of months of dialogue driven by community women and stakeholders.

He explained that the process involved conflict assessments, stakeholder consultations, and mediated dialogues addressing key issues such as farmer-herder clashes, boundary disputes, criminality, and resource-based conflicts.

Agoha noted that women’s leadership has been transformative in shaping the agreement, ensuring it reflects the needs and aspirations of affected communities. He, however, stressed that the success of the initiative depends on sustained implementation, collective ownership, and continuous dialogue.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Caroline Plangnan Dafur, represented by the Director of Child Welfare, Sunday Dombim, described the event as a unique occasion where women are at the forefront of driving the peace process. He urged participants to ensure sustainability of the initiative by reaching out to others and expanding the peacebuilding efforts within their communities.

In her remarks, Director General of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Julie Sanda, represented by Adanchi Wiamana, described the event as a celebration of women’s leadership and resilience in peacebuilding.

She reiterated the agency’s commitment to inclusive peace processes, emphasizing that lasting peace cannot be achieved without the active participation of women as leaders and decision-makers.

The agreement is expected to address longstanding issues across the border communities, including land disputes, insecurity, and social tensions, while promoting cooperation and peaceful coexistence.

The event concluded with the nomination and inauguration of a joint implementation committee tasked with overseeing the execution of the agreement and ensuring its sustainability across the four LGAs.

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, have neutralized no fewer than 10 suspected terrorists and recovered arms and logistics supplies during coordinated clearance operations in Plateau State.

The military disclosed that the operations were carried out across Daba and Seri villages in Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas as part of the ongoing offensive codenamed Operation WUTAN DAJI, aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security in the region.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, troops established strategic blocking positions between Dutsen Zaki and the Odare Forest at about 8:30 a.m. on April 9, 2026.

During the operation, a large group of armed men on motorcycles was reportedly sighted along a known transit route. The troops engaged the suspects in a gun battle, deploying what was described as superior and coordinated firepower.

“Despite initial resistance, the terrorists were overwhelmed, leading to the neutralization of 10 of them, while others fled into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.

In a related development, troops also responded to reports of an attack on commuters along the Razat–Kafi Abu axis. Upon arrival, the attackers reportedly retreated into nearby hinterlands, prompting a pursuit operation by security forces.

Subsequently, troops conducted cordon-and-search operations across Suma Suga and Takwok villages, including surrounding mountainous areas, to track down the fleeing suspects.

The military said the operations led to the recovery of several items believed to belong to the suspects, including three AK-47 rifles, three magazines, eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two motorcycles, and five 25-litre jerrycans filled with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), suspected to be intended for logistics support.

Other items recovered include a National Identity Card and a photograph, which security officials say could aid ongoing investigations.

The Joint Task Force noted that the operation marks a significant step in degrading the operational capacity of armed groups in the area, adding that troops remain on high alert and are intensifying efforts to track down fleeing suspects and their collaborators.

The Plateau State Specialist Hospital has commenced the opening of bids for the procurement of critical medical and office equipment, as part of efforts to upgrade healthcare services in the state.

A total of 17 companies submitted tender bids, which were officially opened on Tuesday at the hospital’s boardroom, following an earlier public invitation to reputable and registered contractors.

The procurement exercise covers multiple categories of equipment, including dental, physiotherapy, orthopedic instruments and implants, theatre and surgical equipment, ophthalmology tools, hearing test devices for both adults and children, urological equipment, as well as office equipment. The items are grouped into various lots to allow contractors bid based on their areas of specialization.

Speaking during the bid opening, the Chief Medical Director, Christopher Yilgwan, emphasized the commitment of the Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang administration to transparency and accountability in governance.

He noted that the open bidding process reflects the government’s “open door and open book policy,” aimed at building public trust and ensuring that citizens are actively engaged in governance processes.

Otunba Segun Showunmi, Convener of The Alternative, has raised strong concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security and humanitarian situation following a high-level engagement with a senior U.S. congressional figure directly involved in shaping America’s policy toward Nigeria.

In an internal briefing note, Showunmi disclosed that the United States now views Nigeria’s internal crisis with unprecedented seriousness, describing Washington’s posture as “firm, focused, and deeply concerned.”

According to Showunmi, American authorities have conducted extensive consultations with government and civil society stakeholders both in Washington and in Nigeria. “If we lose control of the narrative and the reality on the ground continues to deteriorate, external actors will define the Nigerian situation for us,” he cautioned.

While expressing confidence in divine protection over the nation, Showunmi emphasized that faith must be matched with responsibility.

“This moment is more consequential than many realize,” he warned.

He called for clarity, unity, and decisive action in confronting Nigeria’s security and humanitarian challenges.

A youth-led rally was held Friday at Secretariat Junction in Jos, calling for an end to growing political propaganda and rising hostility on social media platforms across Plateau State. The event, organized by the United Youth Movement for Better Nigeria (UYMBN), brought together young advocates who urged residents to embrace unity under the theme “One Plateau.”

Speaking during the rally, Comrade Musa Joseph, National Coordinator of the movement, said the gathering was aimed at addressing the increasing toxicity in the digital space, which he described as harmful to Plateau’s image and collective progress.

He lamented that political divisions have created an environment where misinformation, cyberbullying, and personal attacks thrive, often driven by “political miscreants and data mercenaries” used by politicians to spread falsehoods. According to him, this trend undermines the values Plateau people are known for—civility, respect, and unity.

Comrade Joseph appealed to supporters of major political figures—including Governor Caleb Mutfwang and APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda—to stop fueling animosity online, emphasizing that both leaders have key roles to play in Plateau’s development. He stressed that politicians come and go, but the state remains, urging youths not to become tools for divisive interests.

"I would like to charge other ministries on the Plateau to emulate the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ephraim Usman, who collaborates with youths and citizens, bringing ideas that project the state in growth and development. That should be the way forward.”

He also called for stronger regulation of the social media space, noting that while freedom of expression is guaranteed under the Constitution, it must not cross into hate speech, incitement, or defamation. Ambassador Daniel Dazan, Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Plateau State chapter, said moral values among young people must be revived to counter the breakdown of discipline and rising online hostility. He called on the state government and relevant institutions to support initiatives that promote peace, digital responsibility, and youth engagement.

Dazan warned that the obsession with political fights on social media distracts youths from tackling real challenges such as insecurity, unemployment, and social vices. He urged young people to channel their energy toward peacebuilding and productive development rather than political rivalry.

His Vision for Global Peace

My vision is to push for peace also to any troubled part of the world whenever God gives me the opportunity to make a small difference. The situation such in Israel and Gaza has been troubling and most disturbing. The level of human suffering needs to be addressed. The security of Israel and the safety of its people is sacrosanct. These must be guaranteed. So also the freedom of the Palestinians and addressing the human sufferings of Gaza’s cannot be denied; under whatever pretext. Taking sides is counterproductive. What peace cannot help achieve war can’t. Israel and Gaza are both going through difficult moments with dire spiritual implications for the entire world, if ignored. As a peace builder, I pray for the peace of Israel and the freedom of the Palestinians. Both are complex but possible.

In conclusion, he extended heartfelt prayers for peace and expressed his hope for a Nigeria where all citizens can experience the freedom, security, and unity they deserve. In a display of compassion and commitment towards the surviving families of  Fallen Heroes of the Nigeria Police Force, a United States-based Charity organization, Kedrick Scribner Foundation has flagged-off the long awaited edition of its Widow’s Mite 3.0 in Lagos, Nigeria. The grand event, which took place Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the United Church of Christ in Nigeria, A.K.A. HEKAN, Mounted Troops Police Barracks, Ikeja, had widows of the fallen heroes gracing the occasion alongside their children.

These families were carefully selected from different barracks within the Lagos State metropolis, which includes the following: Mounted Troops Police Barracks, Ikeja, Police Barracks, Obalende, Mopol 20 Police Barracks, Ikeja, Mopol 22, Police Barracks, Alapere, Police Barracks, Idimu and Highway Police Barracks, Ikeja.
Building on the successes of the previous edition of the Widow’s Mite 1.0 and 2.0, this third edition solidifies the foundation’s commitment to supporting the underprivileged.

Past successes of the foundation also include Widow’s Mite 1.0, which provided essential items to over 80 widows. These items include, 25kg of rice, 1 gallon of cooking oil, sauces, spices, dried milk, flour, and canned goods. Additionally, about 1000 people were fed, after the Sunday church service.

Similarly, the Widow’s Mite 2.0, offered a three days of events, featuring medical testing, free medical insurance for 180 Widows of the Fallen Heroes, with 25 fully paid scholarships granted to the children of the widows to study at federal universities in Nigeria, for a period of four-years. During the event, about 2000 people were fed after the Sunday church service.

The third edition of the Widow’s Mite 3.0 witnessed the inauguration of the Kedrick Scribner Vocational Center, a testament to the Foundation’s dedication to widows’ empowerment in Nigeria. The center, promises to offer sewing vocational training and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for the widows and their children.

A 6-month certificate course in sewing, covering pattern cutting, dressmaking, and traditional wears making will be featured in the Vocational Training centre. Trained widows will have access to sewing machines to support their families by crafting clothing for sale. Additionally, a 3-month computer application course will be offered, covering beginner basic computer training to advanced-level skills.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kedrick Scribner Foundation, Dr. Kedrick Scribner, who is a Minister of the gospel and in Law Enforcement in the United States, while expressing delight over the success of the event shared his motivation for supporting families of the falling heroes in Nigeria:

“I grew up in a home, with 4 siblings. My mother was a single parent, we lived in the projects in Baltimore city, which is one of the most dangerous projects in Baltimore city called ‘Murphy Home ‘. My mother worked for Social Security Administration for 50 years, and that is where I got my work ethic from. So growing up, we were poor, but my mother maintained a good home as where there is food on the table, clothes on our backs and made sure that we went to school. This is what has engrained in me to help those that are not as fortunate as myself, because I understand the plight of being poor and I understand what it is like to not be able to have very much and to have your mother go out and slave, just so she could provide something on the table for her children.”

Kedrick Scribner Foundation also provided the sum of two million naira (2,000,000) to HEKAN church, Mounted Troops Police Barracks, to support the education of children of the fallen heroes, and orphans in the HEKAN community. Monies provided were solely for the children’s school uniforms, books and tuition fees at the HEKAN school.
Dr. Scribner, while speaking with newsmen in Lagos, called on spirited individuals, organizations and government institutions to contribute towards supporting the Widows of the Fallen Heroes, Orphans and the people living in the Valley.

In a bid to alleviate the plight of conflict-affected communities in Plateau State, the government has taken a significant step by providing farming interventions to Mangu, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi communities. These areas have recently witnessed devastation caused by conflicts, leading to the destruction of farms and disruption of livelihoods.

The official flag-off of the farming intervention took place at Ligitlubang Community in Mangu Local Government Area. Dr. Susan Bentu, the Managing Director and CEO of the Agricultural Services Training Center and Marketing Ltd (ASTC), revealed in an interview with journalists that Governor Caleb Mutfwang directed the intervention to cover communities affected by recent attacks and farm destruction.

Dr. Bentu stated that the Plateau State Government has commissioned the Agricultural Services and Training Center and Marketing Ltd ((ASTC) to cultivate lands in areas that suffered from the unfortunate attacks, resulting in the displacement of numerous farmers from their lands.

"The Government's intervention comes as a respite for these communities, as His Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang approved the cultivation of 900 hectares of land across three local government areas of Mangu, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom LGAs in the first phase of the intervention" Dr Bentu stated

The ASTC boss further stated that the primary objective of this intervention is to enable farmers in these affected communities to salvage what remains of the farming season and prevent their farmlands from going to waste. The state government has also responded to the appeal made by farmers by providing security for the cultivated crops, encouraging displaced persons to return to their homes.

She said that despite the advanced stage of the farming season, the government has directed the planting of some late crops, such as beans and soya beans, which are expected to perform well. This move demonstrates the government's commitment to support and revitalize the agricultural sector in the conflict-affected regions.

Also speaking, the Deputy Commandant Head of Agro Rangers, NSCDC Plateau State Command, Olusola Bakene, assured farmers that his team is fully mobilized to protect and secure the farmlands. He said the Agro Rangers, specialized trained personnel, will ensure that the crops are shielded from further destruction.

Representative from the traditional council and the Chairman Mwagavul Development Association, Bunga District, Mr Dafwat Nanribet expressed his gratitude to the government's intervention. He said after witnessing the destruction of all their cultivated farms earlier in the year, the communities are relieved that the government is taking steps to address their hardships through farming interventions.

Some of the farm owners at the cultivation intervention sites including, Elder Ezekiel Dashial and Mr Nanribe Samuel shared their various ordeal and how they suffered attacks on the farmlands and were forced to abandon their crops due to the incessant attacks.

However they expressed joy over Governments intervention as it has restored their hopes and further boosted their confidence that the government was putting efforts to ameliorate their sufferings.

The farming intervention will be extended to 4 communities of Jol, Kwi, Rim and Bachit in Riyom Local Government Area , Sho community in Barkin Ladi, and 14 others namely Aloghom, Gaude/Kinat, Bwai, Sabon Layi, Mangul- Kantoma Bakin Hanya, Jwakkom/ LigitLubang, kombun,Daika(ATughun), Dangdai and Gyembwas in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state.

With this initiative, the Plateau State Government aims to provide much-needed support to the affected communities, helping them rebuild their lives and regain hope for a better future.

Speculations have arisen, suggesting that Governor Simon Lalong's exclusion might be linked to recent crises in the States Party Structure. Reports indicate that some party stakeholders and leaders, such as Senator Nora Daddut, CJ Dakas, and Hon. Komsol Alphonsus Longgap, the immediate past Federal House of Representatives Member representing Mikang, Qua'an-Pan Shendam Federal, have expressed interest in the Ministerial Slot.

Other factors like loyalty to the ruling platform and recommendations from ex-governors and state chapters might also have influenced the selection process with, Governor Lalong holding a high level State APC meeting days before the announcement of the list in an effort to straighten out issues. 

Some have speculated that the party's decision focused on rewarding most of the states where the APC secured their presidential votes, potentially leaving out states that faced challenges in delivering results or dealing with internal party struggles.

States like Adamawa, Bayelsa, Gombe, Kano, Kebbi, Kogi, Lagos, Osun, Plateau, Yobe, and Zamfara are yet to receive ministerial nominations. Prominent figures missing from the list have further fueled speculation, leading to discussions about the possibility of a second list being submitted later.
