The banquet is part of Governor Lalong’s efforts at diversifying the economy of Plateau state from its current dependence on federal government handouts (i.e, subvention), on to other areas of revenue generation.
Governor Lalong stated to the business community that “Plateau state is open for business” and that the government will put in place business friendly policies which will enable the small start up businesses to thrive.
Rt. Hon. Barr. Simon Lalong addressing the buss. community
He cited his visits to China as evidence of his commitment to tap on the immense potential of opportunities in Plateau and called on all investors to get in contact with his government on areas of interest. He enumerated opportunities already compiled by PIPC (the investment limited liability company) of the state.
This rallying call to investors is similar to the efforts of the Lalong administration to re-focus Plateau citizens onto agriculture and already several several policies and projects are being put in place to make that happen.

TV/Movies › Ibinabo Remains President, AGN Chairmen Cautions Emeka Ike, Others by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 5:28pm On Jul 11, 2016
The crisis rocking the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, at the weekend took a different turn as chairmen of the guild across the country gathered in Calabar to decide the way forward for and an end to the age long dispute.
The guild, while condemning the activities of some members, reaffirmed Ibinabo Fiberesima as the legitimate national president of the guild.
Key among the issues the gathering of the guild’s chairmen hammered on was Emeka Ike parading himself as the guild’s president and the recent purported forming of a caretaker committee allegedly constituted by Emeka Rollers, the guilds former secretary while discussing other things bordering on the guilds unity.
After an expanded close door meeting which lasted for hours, the guild’s chairmen who spoke through renown comic actor and chairperson of Lagos State chapter of the guild, Victor Osuagwu wondered why Emeka Ike parades himself as the guild’s president, when according to them, he did not at any point in time purchase form to vie for the position while also maintaining that Ike was not a bona fide member of the guild as he is not a financial member and was not attending the guild’s meetings as stated in the constitution.
“And for those who have been parading themselves as president of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Actors Guild of Nigeria is one and one in the world; one in Africa and one in Nigeria; we have only one national president and that is Chief Ibinabo Fiberesima and her tenure has not elapsed. So whoever that is parading himself as president of the guild, we’re asking you to relax when her tenure elapses you can pick up a form and contest election.”
“And besides most of them that are parading themselves I think it’s high time we had let the world know that most of them are not even members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria; because what makes you a member of actors guild is when you’re financially up to date.”
“Our meeting is focused on peace; we want to bring peace to the association,” Osuagu said.
“The idea of gathering here today is to tell every warring faction, where ever they are coming from, we’re saying please sheath your sword and let us make peace.”
Meanwhile, while the meeting lasted, according to River State chapter chairman of AGN, Orikoha Ugochukwu the chairman of the “purported caretaker committee set by Emeka Rollers”, Steve Ebo had called in to intimate them that he and his members have dissolved the committee claiming they were being instigated to mar the guild. On his part, Kwara State chairman, Val Gbenga urged the media to always speak to stakeholders of the guild who had authority to speak on issues of the guild rather than give relevance to nonmembers.
On his part, popular actor and chairman of AGN in Enugu, Stan K. Amandi sued for an all stakeholders meeting where members would bare their minds with a view to reunite the guild.
Nasarawa chairperson, Andrey Adzuayi Allu and her Cross River counterpart, Monica Udofia reaffirmed their recognition of Ibinabo Fiberesima as the legitimate president of the guild.

Foreign Affairs › See Faces Of The 5 Police Officers Killed By The Sniper In Dallas by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 7:08am On Jul 09, 2016
A newlywed and a Navy veteran of three tours in Iraq were among the five Dallas police officers killed in a sniper ambush on Thursday night. The victims were identified on Friday by officials, relatives and the media as Dallas Police Department officers Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens, Officer Michael Krol, Sgt. Michael J. Smith, Officer Patrick Zamarripa, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) police officer Brent Thompson.

Seven other police officers and two civilians were wounded in the shooting at the end of a protest over this week's killing of two black men by police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota. The Dallas shooter was a U.S. Army reservist who served in Afghanistan.
Transit Police Officer Brent Thompson, 43, worked for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system since 2009 and was the first officer killed in the line of duty since the transit system formed a police department in 1989, DART.

Thompson spent more than four years in Iraq, working for private U.S. military contractor DynCorp International as a police liaison officer who supervised Americans training and mentoring the Iraqi police force, according to his LinkedIn profile. Thompson got married to a fellow DART officer only 2 weeks ago.
Thompson was also a father and a grandfather from a previous marriage.
Patrick Zamarripa
Navy veteran Patrick Zamarripa, 32, served three tours in Iraq and was killed in the attack, his family told Reuters. He served in the military reserves as well as working as a Dallas policeman.

His uncle, Hector Zamarripa, said by telephone that Zamarripa was a proud Mexican-American who leaves behind a wife, their toddler-age daughter and a stepson.

Although he did not speak much Spanish, he went by the name Patricio among his Spanish-speaking friends and relatives.
Michael Krol
Michael Krol, a 40-year-old officer with the Dallas Police Department, was killed, according to a statement from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in Michigan, where Krol worked as a deputy in the jails from 2003 to 2007. "We are saddened by the loss of the dedicated officers in Dallas - one of whom was a former member of this agency - and also the wounding of the other officers," Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon said in the statement.
Lorne Ahrens
Senior Corporal Lorne Ahrens, a 14-year veteran with the Dallas police, was one of those killed, the Dallas Morning News reported. Ahrens, a 48-year-old California native, was married to a Dallas police detective and had two children, ages 10 and 8, the newspaper reported.
Michael Smith, 55, also died in the attack. He served in the military as an Army Ranger before joining the Dallas police in 1989. His family said he left behind a wife of 17 years and two daughters, ages 9 and 14.

May their souls rest in peace.

Politics › Crisis In Plateau House Of Assembly Over Extension Of Tenure For Transition by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 6:16am On Jul 01, 2016
Crisis in Plateau House of Assembly over extension of tenure for transition committee chairmen
Crisis engulfed the Plateau State House of Assembly on Thursday as ten Peoples Democratic Party lawmakers staged a walk out over the six-month tenure extension of the management committee chairmen of the 17 local government councils in the state.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Azi had read a communication from governor Simon Lalong asking for the extension of the tenure of the management Committee chairmen to six months for stability and focus.
According to the governor, the six-month extension is to allow the government to put some necessary machinery in place for a conducive conduct of council poll in the state.
Contributing on the floor of the assembly, the member representing Kantana state constituency under the platform of PDP and deputy speaker, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi said they were in the receipt of eleven petitions against the management committee chairmen.
According to him, if the management committee chairmen were doing well, there would not be petition against them, most especially as the petitions were coming from the APC.
He pointed out that there were allegations of massive corruption leveled against the management committee chairmen, arguing that their tenure should not be extended more that two months.
Also speaking, member representing Jos North, North constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Baba Hassan urged the house to consider the six-month tenure extension to pave way for proper planning of council election in the state.
However, just as the speaker, Hon. Peter Azi had wanted to put the motion on a voice vote, 10 PDP lawmakers staged a walk-out from the assembly chamber.
The House eventually extended the tenure of the Management committee chairmen to six months.

It was a tragic day, Monday 27th June at Bayan Tasha, Angwan Rogo, Jos when two members of the same family were killed when lightening struck during the early morning rain.
The siblings, named Salihu Danjuma Ibrahim and Salisu Ibrahim died on the spot when they were electrocuted after a series of bizzare chain reactions occured after the lightening strike.

Sources said that “the lightening caused a 33 KV high tension wire above to spark above the shop where the boys were perched to avoid the rain. The spark caused the high tension wire to fall to the ground with a loud bang.
The loud sound cause the two brothers to run out of the shop because of the confusion it generated – unfortunately, as they ran out, the high tension wires were firmly lodged on the ground making contact with the water on the ground and as they made to escape, they got electrocuted and died instantly.
The two deceased have since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Politics › Solomon Dalung Youth & Sports Minister Supports Grazing Reserves Policy by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 9:58pm On Jun 26, 2016
The Youth and Sport Minister, Solomon Dalung, on Friday featured on a one-hour personality Hausa Programme on FRCN Kaduna, during which he canvassed for public support for the Federal Government’s policy on gracing reserve and ranches across Nigeria.

Dalung explained that this is geared towards finding a lasting solution to the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.
The Minister said it was surprising that mounting opposition to the programme is coming from Plateau, Benue and Taraba States, which are worse affected by the problem of grazing between herdsmen and farmers.
Dalung said this has led to several loss of lives, paralyzation of economic actives and destruction of properties.
According to the Minister, those opposing the laudable programme are brainwashing the unsuspecting public to believe that land belonging to local communities are going to be grabbed and handed over to the so-called “Fulani herdsmen”, saying nothing could be further from the truth.
He also disputed claims that only Fulanis are normadic herdsmen.
The Minister argued that findings carried out by the Federal Government before coming out with the prgramme revealed that there is no country in the world today making headway in animal husbandry that relies on nomadic mode of cattle rearing.

source: http://www.mathewtegha.com.ng/2016/06/solomon-dalung-speaks-on-necessity-of.html
Citing the examples of USA and Brazil in particular, he said their animal population far outstripped that of Nigeria because they have many reserves and ranches.and that normadic cattle rearing is no longer in practice.
Dalung further explained that under the proramme, many jobs will be generated through employment of agronomists, horticulturists and other professionals and wondered why states whose citizens will benefit from this employment generation scheme should be opposing the iniative.
The Minister equally faulted the insinuation that land will be seized from local people and handed over to herdsmen, saying it is government that will establish the facilities and make it available to whoever has animals.
He therefore warned against the politicization of the issue or reading religious or ethnic meaning into a purely patriotic initiative meant to find a permanent solution to a problem that has been causing social tension, violence and threat to national peace and security.
The Minister said he “is hopeful that a lot of people will take to cattle rearing as occupation, thereby boosting their incomes when the programme comes upstream since the harrowing practice of tracking long distances to find pastures for their animals have been removed”.
Dalung did not rule out the invisible hands of those he referred to as “crisis-profiteerers and crisis merchants who are always fomenting or prolonging crisis for their selfish reasons just as what happened on the Boko Haram issue”.
Dalung called for tolerance across board to build a strong and prosperous nation.

Politics › Plateau Governor Lalong Gets Approval To Access N19 Billion Loan From FG by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 1:04pm On Jun 26, 2016
The Plateau State All Progressive Congress (APC) administration led by Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, is now set to collect over N19 Billion loan from the Federal Government of Nigeria, as the State House of Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon Peter Azi has given approval.

Although the approval is beclouded with mixed feelings of members of the House, the need to temporarily solve the financial needs of the state, that of the state Civil Servants’ salaries and the pensioners, readily took the center stage of the consideration and approval.

However, while expressing their opinions on the floor of the House, some members drew the attention of the House to the fact that the Federal Government already owes the state N15 Billion Naira. “So, the wisdom of collecting N14 Billion extra loan from the same Federal Government was not right.” They stated.

Furthermore, the members had urged the Speaker to set a Committee to look into the details of the loan in order to know what the N14 Billion the administration is trying access would be used for before approval.

According to them, “it will be wrong to tie our state, its people and its future to loans.”

For peace to reign in the plenary, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, had urged members to approve the loan while the House enforces all its oversight functions in monitoring its utilization.

You would recall that Governor Simon Lalong had sent two communications to the House, seeking for approval of the House to collect the balance of the N5.2 Billion of the earlier approved N10 Billion bailout loan, while the other is seeking for the approval of the House for the administration to access a current N14 Billion loan from the Federal Government to pay Pensioners among other on paid salaries.

You will also recall that among the five states that have meet the conditions of accessing the current loan is Plateau State.

Family › Domestic Violence- 8 Things You Should Know About Men Who Beat Women. by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 11:16am On Jun 26, 2016
Men who batter rarely do it once, even if they are rich and famous. So if you’re in a relationship with a guy who has pushed, hit or slapped you once, take it as a warning sign. You can expect him to do it again and again. Here’s everything you need to know about batterers and from domestic violence

1. Men who beat women have an intense need to control the women they love.

The biggest misconception about these guys is that they have “anger management” issues. They don’t. They don’t blow up at work or at the driver who cuts into their lane. Instead, they have an overwhelming need to control their loved one — how she dresses, where she goes and whom she talks to. That’s why, before they actually start using physical violence to stay in control, they are often constantly phoning and text messaging the object of their affections so they know exactly what she’s doing at all times.

2. Men who beat women do genuinely love the women they beat up.

In fact, they are often obsessively in love with their girlfriends or wives, which makes them even more jealous and controlling — they just don’t know the proper way to express it. They most likely grew up in a home where there was violence.

3. Men who beat actually blame their girlfriends for forcing them to be violent.

A batterer will tell himself and his girlfriend that SHE provoked the violence by looking at another guy, wearing a skirt that’s too short or not cleaning up the kitchen fast enough.

4. Women blame themselves for provoking their boyfriends.

They get brainwashed into believing that they’ve done something wrong. “It was my fault for leading him to think I was cheating.”

5. When batterers apologize, it’s another form of taking control.

Guys who beat up their girlfriends can be dramatically remorseful — crying, begging for forgiveness and promising to never become violent again. Flowers and gifts can be typical. The apologies can seem so genuine that a battered girlfriend gets completely seduced back into continuing the relationship.

6. Guys who batter are insecure.

It’s weird. They can seem completely normal and stable at times. At work, they can present themselves as completely nice guys. It’s the fear of losing their girlfriend or being unable to control her that leads to the intense outbursts of rage and violence.

7. When guys batter, they feel entitled to do it.

They believe they have the right to use whatever means necessary to take control of the situation. If police arrive, they aren’t ashamed of their behavior; they feel justified (i.e., “You deserved it — you were behaving like a slut”).

8. If your boyfriend is violent, it’s unlikely he will be cured.

Most batterers don’t get the treatment they need in order to stop. They don’t want help because they believe they are in the right. Furthermore, the beatings are likely to escalate over time. Ask for help from your close friends, family or a domestic abuse organization, and make a plan to leave ASAP.

TV/Movies › EMEKA IKE Talks Tough, AGN Preisdency And More...must Watch. by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 2:06pm On Jun 25, 2016
In this interview with TVC Entertainment, actor Emeka Ike does not mince words when he is talking about his takeover as the AGN President from Ibinabo Fiberesima.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cXm4gzbD0k/img]

He talks about all the problems the AGN was having with her as President, the fact that her court case was not a good look for the organization and the poor management of the organization.

According to him, she was more interested in putting the wrong people in power like Segun Arinze, who Emeka Ike says does not even have a B.Sc and is not fit to be in power in AGN.

Emeka Ike also talks about the fact that things were being done in the wrong way and with the wrong procedure.
He says a few people wanted to take the Actors Guild of Nigeria as their own.

According to him, Nollywood has always been making good movies like “Igodo” and “Violation”. He says, “with no disrespect to Kunle Afolayan” who reportedly used a 200 million Naira grant to make the movie October 1, you can give a dunce 200 million Naira and he will make a good movie.

He also talks about the best way to move the industry forward; the techniques, the structure of AGN, equipment’s and so much more.

At the end of the interview, Emeka Ike talks about his personal life and how bloggers (he mentioned names) are aggravating the issue. He says that he almost brought a case against a TVC presenter because she brought down his name. He adds that he hates man-haters disguised as feminists but loves feminists who are true to the cause.

He also denies the wife-beating allegations saying that wife beaters are lesser men. To conclude, he urges women to be cautious about enjoying too much freedom. He urges that they should always remember that the have a home and that social media is just a mirage.

Celebrities › See Seyi Shay's Defence For Wizkid And Afrobeats by mathewteghaBLOG(op):
On Sunday evening Seyi Shay was at the wrong end of the stick with the media as footage of her and Jamaican entertainment authority DJ Akademiks discussing in an interview on Onstage TV in Jamaica.
Looking at the public uproar this footage gathered the general consensus was that Seyi Shay was speaking on an issue she had no involvement in and that her comments on the matter were harmful to the parties involved, which she later came out to apologise for overstepping.

The truth of the matter is that with regard to the many things exposed in this footage a lot of things were actually swept under the carpet, even so more things Seyi Shay said that put Africa on the map in that interview. Things like how Nigerian musicians like Wiz Kid and Pato Rankin have become big hits in the UK, USA and Jamaica with many people thinking this sound is their music Seyi Shay went on to educate DJ Akademiks on how these are indigenous Afro Beat infused sounds which have been a culture in Africa since Fela and that the likes of Wiz Kid and Pato Rankin are Africans not getting their due credit.

WATCH VIDEO FOOTAGE -CLICK ON WHITE BUTTON

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-zLecYZhOo/img]

Based on how this very important discussion for Africa has been reported and doctored an uproar has evidently come out based on misinformation. Fans and music enthusiasts in Nigeria who should have been congratulating and commending Seyi Shay for waving the green and white flag high wherever she goes were terribly mislead and as a result she has bared the consequence for this. One thing she does do is absolve all the blame and accept that she has committed some form of wrong doing as what matters to her the most is her fans, friends and her music.

With all the skepticism and disbelief that many might face reading this difficult pill to swallow, here are remaining clips from her interview that had her giving amazing stories of how Nigerian musicians are slowly taking over the world. Watch objectively and share your thoughts.

The former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has nullified the party’s congress in Plateau State.

The embattled PDP Chairman made the annulment when aggrieved members of the party visited him to ask for a fresh congress to elect a chairman in Plateau State.
The delegation led by a former member of the House of Representatives from the state, Mr Bitrus Kaze, alleged that the congress which was conducted in April was not credible.
In his response, Senator Sheriff told the gathering that a new committee would be inaugurated to conduct a fresh congress that would elect principal officers for the PDP in Plateau State.

Politics › #occupyplateau -update On Youths Protest Against Grazing Reserve By FG by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 5:05pm On Jun 13, 2016
The youths in plateau state came out today 13th June, to protest grazing reserves on the plateau. They came out as early as 7am to peacefully protest at the Old Plateau State Government House.

matthewteghaBlog correspondent Speaking to one of the protesters, Morgan Tok said grazing reserves are good but not for Plateau State as the state is better known for farming. So it will not favour the 'Plateau Man' rather it is a ploy for the herdsmen to benefit, stating that the government should consult and know that the plateau people are not in support of any ploy for land grabbing called grazing reserve.

The gathering was later addressed by Dr Giwa Gwomson as he brought before the press and general public the 3 basic talking points that makes the grazing reserve bill totally unacceptable. He further described grazing as a personal business and as such the government should not empower a particular group by forcefully taking another mans land and handing it over to another in the name of grazing reserve.
The protesters will do a 3day long stand, from 7am to 7pm until they are heard with the possibility of an extension if the plateau state government does not come up with a resolution. The protesters held various placards and banners with write ups to express their grievances and played emancipation songs. There was also heavy presence of security personel to ensure law and order at the protest ground.

Politics › #occupyplateau Grazing Reserve Protest Today As Police Invites Dachung Bagos by mathewteghaBLOG(op): 7:33am On Jun 13, 2016
As the countdown to the “Grazing Reserves” protest scheduled for Monday 13th June, 2016 by 9:00 am, begins, security agencies in Plateau have invited the leader of the protest – Mr. Dachung Bagos to attend a closed door session with them at 8:00am (ahead of the protest).

The invite sent by the commissioner of police of Plateau state Mr. Adekunle Oladunjoke, requested that Mr Dachung Bagos attends a meeting with security agents, so that modalities of the protest to be fashioned out etc.
Several of the protest organisers have expressed apprehension at the invitation, saying Hon Bagos may be detained by the police longer than necessary, as a ploy to jeopardize the protest which should commence at 9:00am.
However, at this stage, no evidence of such a plan by the police exists and at the time of filling this report, Mr. Bagos was preparing to attend the invitation at 8:00 am.
