PoliticsSenator Kaka Lawan Disburses ₦135M To APC Executives For Sallah by Mattswaggz(op): 10:38am On May 16
The Senator representing Borno Central, Kaka Lawan, has disbursed one hundred and thirty-five million, six hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦135,650,000) to All Progressives Congress executives in his constituency ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, the senator’s legislative assistant, Usman Alkali, said the gesture marks the third time Lawan has made such a donation since he joined the National Assembly.

The post, written in Hausa and translated by our correspondent, read: “Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan shares ₦135,650,000 to APC executives in Borno Central for Eid al-Kabir celebration.”

Alkali said the funds were distributed on Thursday to party executives across the senator’s constituency, noting that the intervention was to support preparations for the festive period.

"Senator representing Borno Central, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (SAN), on Thursday distributed cash to APC executives in his Borno Central constituency, totalling ₦135,650,000 to help them celebrate the upcoming Eid-Kabir festival,” he said.

He added, “This is the third time the Senator has given such a donation since becoming a member of the National Assembly.”

According to him, the gesture was intended to appreciate party executives for their commitment to strengthening democracy and upholding its principles.

Meanwhile, Lawan had earlier withdrawn from the Borno governorship race, endorsing his rival Mustapha Gubio, the candidate backed by Governor Babagana Zulum.

The decision, according to Alkali, followed a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja where it was agreed that Lawan should step down in favour of Gubio, while retaining his seat in the Senate.

PoliticsYou Can’t Demand Development Without Paying Tax, Says Tinubu by Mattswaggz(op): 10:28pm On May 15
President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to pay their taxes, saying that is the only way the government can meet their demands for infrastructure and public services.

Tinubu spoke on Friday at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, where he said Nigerians want well-equipped hospitals but are unwilling to pay taxes, while others want good roads but oppose construction through their properties.

“Nobody wants to pay taxes. Taxation is not friendly to the wealthy, middle class, and to the poor.

“Every human being expects development, but the question they don’t answer is how do you pay for it. You want a good highway, but you don’t want it to go through your land.
You want good and well-equipped hospital, and you don’t want to pay taxes, how do we care for the vulnerable, and how do you protect the future of the children? How do you even research and develop? The pharmaceutical industry, we remember COVID-19; we remember what happened to the world at large.

“So in the world where you can’t predict what exactly you are doing, you must think from where the source and application of funds should be engineered.

“Tax is a priority. A citizen who pays tax is a citizen, whether corporate or individual. If you are not a taxpayer and not exempted, then you are not a citizen,” he said.

The president also defended the economic reforms he introduced in the early months of his administration, describing them as difficult but necessary.

He said Nigeria could not continue to spend future generations’ endowment before they were born.

“It was very necessary to reset, recalibrate and reform the economy. It is a fake life to think you can, in a global economy, continue the subsidy that is wasteful, it is an encouragement for falsification of papers, (and) smuggling,” he said.

And that is a very critical situation for the country. When you look at the economic problem of the country, and you see that you are almost going bankrupt. Of the 36 states, 27 of them were unable to pay the salaries of the workers. Where is the money?

"You are an oil producer, you are earning, you are giving fuel, you have no refinery that is functional. It is not possible to continue that trend.

“It is difficult, it is painful, but just like a woman reproduction process, a woman carries the pregnancy, endures the pain of labour and will have a very big smile when you see the live child,” he said.

Tinubu said he stopped reading newspapers and commentary during the reform period to avoid being deterred by public pushback.

Despite reforms ranging from subsidy removal to the unification of the naira, the president said Nigeria faced more challenges and he would do more work in a second term if re-elected.[b]

“The philosophy I came with in governance is believing that the hallmark of a transformative leader is the ability to take decisions, do it at the time it supposed to be done on behalf of the people.

“If you miss that curve, you are not on the path to success. That’s what I believe. First term, took hard decisions, regardless of pain, I stopped reading newspapers and commentary because I knew I was going to get big pushback, and I did. I was sitting on a hot burner.

But we made the curve. Today, there’s a very bright light at the end of the corner. The naira is stable, predictable, planners can do reasonable budget, they can plan their lives well, the students are in school, the vulnerable are being helped; we have a direct transfer to very poor households,” he said.

Tinubu added that his reforms had made it possible for the government to support education for students “who ordinarily would stay out of school because their parents cannot afford school fees. They are now even giving them allowances and upkeep for their school.”

Foreign AffairsRe: Netanyahu Says He 'secretly Visited' UAE During War With Iran by Mattswaggz(op): 9:25am On May 15
Seems like it's not only the US and Israel that are against a strong Iran.....even Irans neighbors don't trust Iran for certain reasons....The only problem is Iran have already gotten too strong that her neighbors can't openly despise her but deep down within them they don't want a militarily strong Iran talk more of a nuclear armed one and will do anything possible to achieve that that's why they're secretly backing the US and Israel to help them get the job done.

If one is surrounded by neighbors who don't trust you then that says a lot about you.

Anyway if Israel and US don't achieve total victory when it comes to destroying Iran's military capabilities....it will mean the gulf states will also boost their spending militarily and be armed to the teeth to try and match Iran.....this war would've thought them that they would be almost helpless against Iran in any potential conflict and they wouldn't just sit down and watch that happen.
Foreign AffairsNetanyahu Says He 'secretly Visited' UAE During War With Iran by Mattswaggz(op): 9:24am On May 15
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he "secretly visited" the United Arab Emirates and met its president during the war with Iran.

Netanyahu's office said the meeting between the Israeli PM and President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed had led to a "historic breakthrough".

However shortly afterwards, the UAE foreign ministry said the claims about the visit were "entirely unfounded", and insisted relations between the two countries were not based on "unofficial arrangements".

Iran hit several targets in the Emirates during the conflict, and Tehran has repeatedly criticised the country for what it sees as its closer ties with the US and Israel.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Netanyahu had "publicly revealed what Iran's security services long ago" told the country's leaders.

He added that collusion with Israel was "unforgivable" and those who do so "will be held to account".

In its statement, the UAE foreign ministry denied reports of the alleged visit by Netanyahu or any other Israeli military delegation in the country.

"The UAE reaffirms that its relations with Israel are public and conducted within the framework of the well-known and officially declared Abraham Accords, and are not based on non-transparent or unofficial arrangements."

The Abraham Accords are a set of agreements that established normalised relations between Israel and several Arab countries during President Trump's first term.

Reuters quoted a source as saying the meeting between Netanyahu and the Emirati president took place in Al-Ain, an oasis city near the border with Oman, and lasted several hours.

On Tuesday, the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee said Israel sent anti-missile batteries from its Iron Dome system to help the UAE combat Iranian attacks.

The Iron Dome is an advanced Israeli air defence system used to intercept and destroy a range of aerial missiles, rockets and drones.

Huckabee said the Iron Dome deployment was the result of an "extraordinary relationship between the UAE and Israel" based on the Abraham Accords.

Israel and the US's war with Iran appears to have deepened those relations - and developed the alliance militarily too.

During the war, Iran launched a series of missiles and drones on the UAE. On 10 May the UAE's Ministry of Defence said that air defence systems had engaged two drones launched from Iran and that the country had engaged a total of 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles, and 2,265 since the war broke out in late February, when the US and Israel attacked Iran.

On Monday the Wall Street Journal reported that the UAE had also carried out strikes on Iran, which it had not yet publicly acknowledged, including an attack on a refinery on Iran's Lavan Island in early April.

Earlier on Wednesday Emirati presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said the UAE remained committed to diplomacy but had a right to defend itself.

In his post, Gargash said that the UAE had not sought the war and had worked to avoid it, saying that "Arab-Iranian relations in the Gulf cannot be built on confrontations and conflicts".

A ceasefire has been in place between the US and Iran for about a month.

However Iran has continued to block the Strait of Hormuz in response to US-Israel strikes, prompting a rise in world oil prices. Normally about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passes through the strait. The US for its part has been enforcing a blockade of Iranian ports to exert pressure on Tehran to agree to its terms.

On Sunday Iran laid out its demands to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a counter-offer sent to the US. Trump rejected the proposal, calling it "totally unacceptable" and a "piece of garbage" and subsequently said the ceasefire was "on massive life support".

Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf responded on X that Iran's armed forces were "ready to respond and to teach a lesson for any aggression".

RomanceRe: 3 Types Of Women You Should Never Marry by Mattswaggz: 11:58am On May 14
joebeckz:
That’s a very generalized way to look at people. Relationships aren’t based on labels like that, they’re based on character and how two people treat each other.

About your feminist point, I don’t agree with that description. Wanting equality doesn’t automatically mean wanting control or fighting a man’s role. In healthy relationships, leadership and decisions are shared through respect, not competition. If there’s constant conflict, that’s more about the specific relationship, not a whole group of women or all women.

On single mothers, I understand the responsibility angle, yes the children will always be part of her life, but that doesn’t automatically mean you are “second place” or disrespected. A mature relationship is about accepting someone’s reality, including kids, and building something together if you choose that path. It’s not a trap, it’s a choice.

About party girl. I get that lifestyle differences can cause issues long-term, especially if someone doesn’t want to change. But again, that depends on the individual. Some people naturally grow out of that phase, others don’t. You can’t assume everyone stays the same forever or lacks discipline.

At the end of the day, I think judging people by categories like this ignores the real issue, which is compatibility, values, and maturity on both sides.

I live in a first world country and my ideology changed from the traditional views since I left Nigeria . Equality is big here and that has thought me to respect a spouse even more and earn equal respect. Life is even sweeter with equality, feminism doesn’t take the place of respect and love. It only asks for consideration , respect and to be acknowledged.
Firstly most of the point are based of ratio....after all in every rule there should be exceptions.

Secondly come and try an average Nigerian feminist and you'll understand what op is talking about.
