The Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination (UTME) was, Saturday, held in
Lagos State amid delay in capturing the
candidates’ biometric data, malpractices,
and shortage of question papers.
The examination started in Yewa Junior High
School, Diary Farm, Agege, Ikotun High
School, Government Technical College,
Ikotun and Igando Community High School,
around 10: 00am, an hour behind official
starting time.
When Sunday Vanguard visited some centres
in the state, some candidates were seen
shortly before the commencement of the
examination copying supposedly answers
from their cell phones into small sheets of
papers, which they hid in secluded parts of
their body including their private parts to
beat security officers.
Also, some clever ones went into the
examination halls with their cell phones
making it easy for them to cheat.
Our correspondent at Vetland Senior High
School in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government
Area witnessed officials tackling the
challenge of biometric screening of
candidates within the scheduled time. The
chief examiner at the centre, who simply
identified herself as Mrs Olajide, had to
announce to those affected and who had
earlier been screened manually to go into
classrooms within their examination
numbers to settle down. While the exam was
going on, she went round to announce that
every candidate should ensure to do
biometric screening before leaving the exam
hall.
An official of Nigerian Security and Civil
Defence Corps screening candidates for the
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination
at the African Church Grammer School Ita-
Eko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Saturday.
“These are some of the candidates that the
machine could not capture their data and we
cannot continue to waste time on them. That
is why I asked them to go in first while the
official will go round to do their biometric
capturing later,” she said.
There was also a situation of candidates not
having all their subjects combination in one
booklet and there was no left over questions
papers across subject combination.
Some candidates who had economics,
chemistry, government as subjects
combination were affected.
The supervisors at some centres managed
the situation by asking affected candidates
to switch the question papers with those who
had theirs complete pending when they
would be ready to do them.
Candidates writing the UTME at the
University of Abuja, Saturday.
“And we’re able to manage the problem with
understanding,” Mr. Yekini Olawale, a
supervisor at Yewa Junior High School who
teaches at Lagos City Polytechnic, said.
On malpractices, although many supervisors
denied knowledge of any, a JAMB official in
charge of the 11 centres in Ikotun/Idimu
area said that over 30 candidates were
caught cheating in exam hall and that some
invigilators aided the practice such that he
had to re-arrange some of the invigilators at
Comprehensive College, Ikotun, having
suspected foul play.

LARRYDKING: The jamb subject is their postjamb subject.... In addition, they dont release results with score, they just release a list which is said to include the name of those who performed well.

promisechild: The utme examination that was conducted yesterday was full of cheats and manipulation while the body jamb has vowed to withheld the result of any candidate that repeated one type twice that your omr answers must have option a b c d forming the word dibu.

Well , i used to think the same too not until a friend of my gave me her question paper which had 2 Ds as type. Her geography was type D, LIT-in-ENG type D, ENG type I.
can't remember the fourth one.

Don't mind them..They are just uttering nonsense with passion saying rubbish with confidence...There are people who were given same type of question papers at different centres....If you gat nothing to do please move to joke session don't scare the jambites.

LARRYDKING: Hello sir! Did i hear u just say Bowen university' admission is on merit? Anyway, u should say so cos u had yr way then. Mayorall, we ran the uniosun thread 2gether last yr if u remember where u feed us with reliable info so i can't watch u decided by anybody.
I choose Bowen uni first choice last year, scored 251 in UTME, performed well in post-jamb (although their result was not graded with any score), i went 4 d interview well dressed. The main point is i met all their conditions but here i am writing Jamb again.
U should remember that last year, uniosun considered indigenes and first choice, Bowen deprived me of puting uniosun as first choice.
Last year, over 700 student choice medicine in at bowen uni while NUC said only 30 could be admitted.
Now the point is if u have no connection at bowen uni, dont let yr brother/sister try medicine cos it's dangerous.
A word they say is enough 4 d wise. Mayorall, i really appriciate d last yr info. May the good Lord guide u @ uniosun.

You have better chance of gaining admission at uniosun since you are making it your first choice....you need 180 to qualify for post utme for your course at uniosun...you can get across to me for uniosun post utme past questions....

Vakinmuyiwa: Uniosun has not started 2013/2014 admission processing.Its too early for you to process your transcript.Just make sure you finish ur DE reg wit jamb.
