PoliticsRe: Don’t Mislead Nigerians With Fake Infrastructure Report, ADC Tells Tinubu by Mbanda(m): 7:59am On Sep 04, 2025
Ofunaofu:
African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu administration of manipulating official infrastructure data in an attempt to deflect growing criticisms over allegations of nepotism and regional bias.

In a statement issued on yesterday, the national publicity secretary of ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the Tinubu government’s infrastructure report not only reinforced existing suspicions about exclusionary governance but also exposed the administration’s alarming comfort with misleading the public with #FakeNews.

The opposition party said it observed with keen interest the Federal Government’s recent flurry of media engagements, particularly the hurried release of a glossy infrastructure document tagged “Infrastructure Equity for Every Region. Progress for Every Nigerian. The Renewed Hope Agenda in Action.”

The party noted that while it noted that it would ordinarily have commended such an effort at transparency, the context and content of the report suggested that this was less a gesture of accountability and more a panicked propaganda attempt at damage control in the face of mounting criticism about the government’s nepotistic and exclusionary tendencies.

The party said noted that this is the first time that any government in Nigeria would be so hard pressed to prove that it has actually given all parts of the country a sense of belonging.

“But the reason is clear: this is the most divisive government we have ever had, where the principle of “it is our turn,” has become a mantra of marginalisation and government business is run like an exclusive membership club.

“Unfortunately for the administration, in a desperate attempt to defend its records, it ended up convicting itself with obviously manipulated evidence.

“For avoidance of doubt, the so-called infrastructure progress report, rather than exonerate the government, actually showcases the cronyism, the sloppiness and the lack of equitable distribution of projects and spending for which this APC government has become widely renown.

“Under the section purportedly dedicated to North-Western Nigeria, the government lists 12 projects, but upon closer scrutiny, at least four of those projects do not belong there.

“Let’s take the Damaturu –Maiduguri road, for instance. This was supposedly a 110km road that was listed under the North-West. Yet, Damaturu is the capital of Yobe State, and Maiduguri is the capital of Borno State, and Borno State is in the North-East. Similarly, the Bama and Dikwa roads, also in Borno State, were mysteriously reclassified as North-Western projects.

“Then there is the Lokoja–Okene dualisation project. Lokoja is the capital of Kogi State, which, along with Okene, falls squarely within the North-Central zone.

Yet, the government’s report would have us believe it is a North-Western initiative. The Benue–9th Mile road is another case in point. This was mislabeled under the North-West, despite Benue being in the North-Central.

“To make matters worse, some projects were listed twice, once under their actual regions and again under the North-West. We know that budgets have allegedly been padded by this administration, but this is the first time that we have seen infographics being padded with such brazen creativity.

“What is even more interesting is that several of the projects that the Tinubu government is celebrating were initiated under the Buhari administration, only to be repackaged and presented as fresh achievements of the Tinubu government.

“At this point, one thing is clear: the Presidential Media Team’s colourful, propaganda-filled infographics cannot mask the darker truths behind these projects. The processes surrounding them are opaque. Contracts are being awarded without adherence to the Procurement Act, and many have been handed over to known cronies, political financiers, and economic oligarchs.

“Even the public’s basic questions are met with silence. What, for example, is the cost of the Badagry–Sokoto Highway? Why are we not told how much is, and has been, spent, with whom the contracts are being signed, or what procurement procedures were followed? Why are some projects lavishly funded while others, particularly those in opposition strongholds, are stalled indefinitely? Is this what democracy under the APC has become?

“The place to start is for the government to answer these questions and release full reports on award and implementation of these projects if it must be taken seriously.”

The party said the latest gaffe by the presidency and the APC-led federal government however fits within a disturbing pattern.

ADC said when the government was accused of nepotism in political appointments, it responded with a generic list of names from across the country, without portfolios or details, a move designed to obscure the truth rather than reveal it.

“Meanwhile, key appointments remain dominated by individuals from a certain political circle, a certain state, and ultimately, a certain region.

“This selective disclosure strategy has failed to convince critics. It has also embarrassed respected leaders in the South-West, who had hoped for a government of national inclusion and competence.

“At a time when our nation needs equity and unity more than ever, this government appears committed to deepening the fractures that divide us. The ADC believes that no amount of propaganda or PowerPoint presentations can substitute for genuine inclusion, fairness, and transparency.

“In this regard, the ADC demands that the Tinubu administration abandon the dishonest politics of propaganda that it has become accustomed to. No amount of spin can substitute for justice, geographically, politically, or economically. A government like this one, that cannot be equitable and inclusive, will always continue to be a government that is at war with its own legitimacy,” ADC added

PoliticsRe: We Met our yearly revenue target In August, Let Trump Do His Worst - Tinubu by Mbanda(m): 7:05pm On Sep 02, 2025
fergie001:
President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria has already met its revenue target for the year in August — affirming that the country’s economy is now stable, resilient, and less vulnerable to external shocks, regardless of what global actors like US President Donald Trump may do.

The President made this known while receiving a delegation of former members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, including governors, lawmakers, and other political leaders drawn from across the federation.

“Today, I can stand here before you to brag — Nigeria is not borrowing. We have met our revenue target for the year and we met it in August. Let Trump do his worst, we are stable,” Tinubu said.

He attributed this progress to improved non-oil revenue performance, asserting that Nigeria now has no reason to fear international economic developments, citing robust mechanisms already in place to keep the nation on course.

“If non-oil revenue is going well, then we have no fear of whatever Trump is doing on the other side,” Tinubu stated.

According to him, when he took over, the exchange rate had ballooned to N1,900 to the US dollar. But thanks to reforms and fiscal discipline, the rate has stabilised around N1,450, without the need for elite-level backchannel connections to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“Nobody is trading pieces of paper for exchange rate anymore. You don’t have to know a CBN governor to get forex. All you have to do is export, import, and create jobs for the people,” he said.

Tinubu noted that his administration was focused on “fixing the economy” and “bringing hope to the people,” describing agriculture as the backbone of Nigeria’s long-term food security plan.

He revealed that he had just signed off on a major agricultural mechanisation programme that will be deployed in every region, complete with training centres and support infrastructure.

“We are doing mechanisation and training — that is our backbone: food sovereignty, food security. If we remove hunger, we have defeated poverty,” he said.

Addressing the CPC bloc of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) directly, the President assured them of his continued commitment to their shared ideals, while acknowledging the delays in political appointments.

He noted that ambassadorial positions were still available but insisted that fixing the economy was his primary focus.

“I couldn’t appoint everybody at once, and thank you for your patience. I still have some slots for ambassadorial positions that so many people are craving for. But it’s not easy stitching those names,” he said.

Tinubu spoke warmly of his long-standing political relationships with the CPC bloc, recalling the early days of the merger talks leading to the formation of APC.

“You brought back the memory of the beginning of the alliance. When we sat down to fashion out which way. We disagreed to agree. We even argued on symbol — he [Buhari] insisted on parliament, and I insisted on broom. He’s so stubborn,” Tinubu jocularly said.

Reflecting on his commitment to building on the legacies of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Tinubu praised the virtues of honesty, justice, and discipline that he said he inherited from his predecessor.

“Part of what we inherited from Buhari was his honesty, transparency, justice. That’s all. You won’t have anything less than that,” he said.

The President also commended the unity and loyalty of CPC stakeholders, stating that their solidarity strengthens his resolve to work even harder.

“When I see people like you, my determination is to work harder. We are certain we are going to succeed,” Tinubu said, promising to build a ‘Buhari House’ that would serve as a symbol of joy and prosperity in honour of the late President.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who led the CPC delegation, assured Tinubu of their unwavering loyalty and pledged grassroots mobilisation in support of the administration’s second term in 2027.

“I want to seize this opportunity, Mr. President, to assure you of the unconditional support of all former members of the CPC,” Abbas said.

He dismissed notions that the CPC bloc was fractured or not aligned with the current administration, declaring: “From the calibre of people you see here, you will be convinced that the notion that CPC is broken or not with this administration is a lie.”

He further commended Tinubu for standing by the Buhari family and the CPC political family during the former President’s passing, noting that the burial was handled with unprecedented dignity and honour.

“It was unprecedented in the history of Nigeria for any former leader to be accorded such kind of respect,” Abbas said, citing the presidential delegations to the UK and the personal presence of Tinubu and the First Lady at multiple events in Katsina and Kaduna.

“We are together today with you, tomorrow and forever,” he concluded.

Also speaking, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State and leader of The Buhari Organisation (TBO), offered heartfelt appreciation to Tinubu for what he described as a dignified, transparent, and loyalty-driven handling of Buhari’s death.

“You did not only bury Muhammadu Buhari but honoured him and ensured a befitting state burial with full military honours,” Al-Makura said.

He praised Tinubu for sharing a vision with Buhari that was founded not on “political assemblage” or benefits, but on values of discipline, justice, economic sovereignty, and responsible governance.

“You and President Muhammadu Buhari shared more than a political alliance. You were united by purpose and vision, not benefits,” Al-Makura said.

He said the Renewed Hope Agenda was not just a slogan, but a “scientific, pragmatic, and rewarding blueprint for national restoration.”

Pledging the full support of CPC loyalists nationwide, Al-Makura added, “Our loyalty and commitment to you and your government is irrevocable.”

As the meeting ended, Tinubu promised that “the joy at the end of this journey” will belong to all Nigerians — and that the path of recovery had already begun.

PoliticsRe: Power-Hungry Politicians Seeking To Remove Tinubu — Bayo Onanuga by Mbanda(m): 8:05am On Sep 02, 2025
ogododo:
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has described those calling for the removal of President Bola Tinubu from office as “power-hungry politicians” who feel politically displaced.

He spoke against the backdrop of comments of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-ERufai, that the President would not be re-elected in 2027.

The former Kaduna governor had, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics programme on Sunday night, said: “I was governor of Kaduna State; I was one of Bola Tinubu’s biggest campaigners, but I couldn’t deliver the state to him. Bola Tinubu himself couldn’t win his state with his own governor in place. So, these things are not as theoretical as people want them to be.

“If you want to engage in self-delusion, you are free to do so. I will not tell you how we are going to win, but I tell you very clearly, the worst-case scenario in the 2027 elections is that no winner will emerge in the first round.

“We may have to go for a runoff, and Bola Tinubu will not be on the ballot for the runoff because he will, at best, be third in the election. He has no pathway to win. I have done the maths, I have done the analysis; he cannot, he will, at best, be third.

“But he can deceive himself; he may think, oh, you know, I have money, because they have taken all the money in the country, I have INEC, I have the police, I have the army. You know what, President Tinubu, invite ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for a chat, and ask him if he didn’t have all these in 2015, and we got him out. Is the case still the same? Similar to 2015? It’s worse.

“It’s like those who say Tinubu has never lost an election. That can be contested, but it’s okay, he’s a political strategist, he’s this, he’s that. Wait.

“I naturally have said, if you want to learn some lessons, invite ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for a chat over coffee, and ask him what happened in 2015. That’s all.’’

But reacting yesterday, Onanuga, in a statement via his X handle, accused el-Rufai of being at the forefront of the campaign of removing the President, despite admitting in the past that four years was not enough for any leader to deliver “meaningful changes.”

He said: “Nasir El-Rufai confesses here that four years is not enough for a political office holder to make ‘meaningful changes’. Yet he is at the forefront of the gang of political desperados plotting President Tinubu’s ouster, just two years into his tenure. What a contradiction!

“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers and Kaduna states, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes in our country over the past two years, positioning us on the path of prosperity.’’

He argued that Tinubu’s administration had achieved significant progress within two years, citing increased foreign reserves, growth in the stock market, harmonisation of the exchange rate, and four consecutive months of inflation decline.

“Phenomenal wealth creation in the stock market has seen ASI skyrocket from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points. Over N26 trillion in additional wealth has been created in the market under Tinubu’s watch,” he said.

Onanuga also pointed to reforms in education and social welfare, including student loans through NELFUND and cash transfers to vulnerable households.

He added that states and local governments were receiving more funds from the centre, enabling them to embark on capital projects and create jobs.

“The governors said they have never had it so good,” he noted, insisting that those behind the alleged plot were acting out of desperation.

He wrote further: “Yet, these power-hungry politicians want the President, who has achieved so much, to be removed, all because they have become politically displaced and irrelevant. May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people.’’

The presidential spokesman said El-Rufai’s past comments would be used against him during political campaigns.

“Please save the video. We shall confront Nasir with it when electioneering starts,” Onanuga noted..
