How can you say Sylva is a problem and in the very same breath; that a state of emergency would not solve the problem? How?

First of all, a state of emergency would uproot Sylva and his bomb laying thugs. The same would happen to all of the state machinery. . . Everybody goes (hopefully to jail)! Start from a clean slate!
What do you mean, a state of emergency wouldn't solve the problem?
dude, you don't solve illegality with another illegality.
this state of emergency thing should not be abused if not it will become a political tool.
where will you draw the line?
every governor that is not in the good book of Jonathan would be removed through state of emergency, after all there is violence and mayhem all over the country.
If you remove him, you bring in an administrator who will be a puppet of Abuja.
How is that an improvement?
the critical question is how did an insane soul like Sylva become governor?
We the people must sek ways to address a system that throws up these muppets and say, never again!!

There is no sentiment about it, Ajanlekoko.
What do i have to gain in sentimentalizing the issue?
If your company factors in the underground economy that cannot be ascertained, how do you derive the figures for your market planning?
my problem is not just the figure Aganga is quoting, my problem is the statistics is horribly unreliable for him or anyone to quote figures on such things.
Politics › Re: Nigerian Unemployment Around 19.7 Percent - Finance Minister by mbulela: 7:25am On Jun 07, 2010
AjanleKoko:
The stats are from the National Bureau of Statistics, and not from Aganga himself. So technically, he's not lying.
I tend to think it may be correct. We seem to always look at graduate unemployment as the yardstick for unemployment in Nigeria. Most graduates, who are not up to 20% of the population, are unemployed, so they would probably form the bulk of that figure, particularly in the urban areas.
how can you say this?
National Bureau of Statistics, when you don't even have an accurate census figure?
maybe you can make the argument clearer by stating your definition of unemployment?
That will be a good place to start.
Howver, i am stretched to see a definition that would accomodate that figure he quoted.
Politics › Sanusi: Jonathan Backs CBN Reform Agenda by mbulela(op): 5:57am On Jun 07, 2010
•Banks’ recapitalisation to be concluded Sept
By Ayodele Aminu, 06.07.2010

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has said that he has no problem with President Goodluck Jonathan and that the President is in support of the banking reforms.

Sanusi, who spoke with THISDAY Board of Editors in an interview last night in Abuja, also said universal banking licence issued to banks in 2000 was illegal. He also said he expects the rescued banks to have been recapitalised by September this year.

Speaking on his relationship with President Jonathan, the CBN Governor said: “Dr Jonathan I know and I have known at every point in time has approved the decisions that we took at Yar’Adua’s time and said that we should go ahead with the decisions. So I have always briefed him and I have always gotten the impression that he has continued to support what we are doing.

“But there are people who try to make it seem there was something wrong, like the newspapers saying what they have heard from Presidency sources in the Villa and these sources may be gardeners and what have you, sources in the Villa, without specifying.
“But the Governor of a Central Bank does not dwell on what people say the President is thinking until the President talks to him directly and I have never refused any invitation from the President. And If the President himself did not tell me nobody around him can claim to be speaking for him.”

On the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Sanusi said  he was a great leader who did not interfere with what the CBN was doing even when the interests of his friends and family were concerned.Sanusi, who explained why all the 24 banks in the country needed to be categorised, said universal banking was illegal because it was not included in the Banking and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA).

“If you read BOFIA, it says you can extend banking operations but excluded Insurance and stock-broking from the type of business, which banks can veer into,” he said.Noting that there was a bill for bank’s categorisation that never sailed through, Sanusi explained that what CBN is doing now is “to correct the wrong,” – just like in other jurisdictions like United States of America, which has also separated banking from propriety trading.

Universal banking parlance means banks becoming one-stop shops, offering a range of financial services - insurance, mortgage, stock broking, merchant banking, commercial banking and bureau de change - under one group. It was introduced by the immediate past CBN Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

But this has often been criticised by Sanusi, who said the banks are putting shareholders’ funds at risk and are not concentrating on their areas of core competence. Justifying the need to phase out universal banking, he said the amount of capital a bank has must be tied to the level of risks it takes.

“It is not only capital differentiation we are talking about. If you are a global bank you must operate international best practices and prepare your accounts in line with the International Financial Reporting Standard,” he explained.
On the recapitalisation of the rescued banks, he confirmed that at least each of these banks have institutions that have indicated interest in them and was optimistic that by September this year, the rescued banks would have concluded their recapitalization exercises.

Sanusi said he expects detailed due diligence of the rescued banks to have been completed by end of July.
Explaining why interest rates charged by banks are still on the high side, he said the high operating costs of banks was responsible.

“In most banks, 65 per cent of the banks’ employees are doing the back office work, while the remaining 35 per cent, which are core staff do real banking job and therefore have to work to pay themselves and the remaining 65 per cent that constitute bulk of the staff. In India, a single company provides back office for eight companies. So, why can banks share costs, he asked.
Consequently, he said the CBN has kicked off a shared services project that approaches industry cost in a strategic manner to bring down the banking industry’s operations cost by 30 per cent in the next three years.

Commenting on his one-year anniversary as the CBN governor, he gave himself thumps up, saying that the CBN under his administration, has been able to take major decisions regulators have been unable to implement.
He listed some of such decisions to include the banks’ common year end, code of corporate governance for bank directors asking them to leave after 12 years and the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) expected to purchase the rescued banks’ asset and inject liquidity to enable them resume lending.

He also said the apex bank has changed the mindset of banks from seeing themselves as agencies for profiteering as they now see themselves as financial intermediaries and critical avenues for directing liquidity into the real sector of the economy.
“We have also proved that we have capacity to take major decisions where operators are resisting,” he said.

Asked if he had any regret about some of the decisions he has taken so far, he said he had no regrets because all of the decisions were taken “based on the best interest of the country and advice and information we have.”
On criticism of his reforms – especially those from prominent Northerners like the National Security Adviser, Alhaji Aliyu Gusau and lately from the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saa’d Abubakar 111, Sanusi said before he responds to any critic, the first question he asks himself is if such people are speaking in their area of expertise.

“I don’t think about my critics as Northerners or Southerners. Some speak based on what they are told, while others speak without having complete information on what they are speaking about. The Sultan is of Sokoto is not an Economist and NSA is not an Economist.
“ So given the family where I come from, I would never reply the Sultan on the pages of newspapers.  I was with the Sultan a few days ago up until 1am. We had a family discussion with each other, details of which I will never make public,” he said.

it is impossible to believe this man was not under the influence of 2 day unfermented urine when he made that comment.
how can you ascertain such stats when you do not even have a relieble census figure?
a large portion of the populates are engaged in the informal economy?
a large portion of companies are not registered and those who are do not have to report their staff strength to any govt agency?

India and China would be holding census in the next 12 months, with a population of over 1 billion each, i guess we need to go take some practical tutorials from them.
That will bea good starting point.

Politics › As President Moves To Announce First Northerner As Electoral Umpire: Bello, Je by mbulela(op): 7:50am On Jun 06, 2010
•Senate may get nominee’s name Tuesday
By Yusuph Olaniyonu, 06.06.2010

There were indications yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan has decided to name a northerner as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the first time in the history of the country.

Also, three candidates have emerged as the remaining contenders among about 10 names that have been considered over the last one month and one of them is sure to have his name sent to the senate for ratification on Tuesday.

The three top contenders are Mallam Bukhari Bello, former executive secretary of the National Human Rights commission (NHRC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, former president of Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) and Prof. Nuhu Yakub, former vice chancellor of the University of Abuja.

Sources in the presidency confirmed that Jonathan is keeping close to his chest who among the three men will get the job but that the three names have been shortlisted from a list, which initially included Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Major-General Ishola Williams (rtd), Prof. Dora Akunyili, who is the incumbent Minister of Informa-tion, Col. Abubakar Umar (rtd), former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Justice Alpha Modibbo Belgore, former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Justice George Oguntade, retired Justice of the Supreme Court.

Agbakoba was said to have been dropped because of his link with a political party, The Green Party which he registered a few years ago. Major-General Williams was removed from the list because the civil rights and anti-corruption crusader publicly declared that he was not interested in the job. As for Akunyili, she was disqualified because she is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and being a minister in the present administration, it is believed that the opposition parties will not have confidence in any election conducted under her leadership of the electoral commission.

Umar is also believed to have close links with some key players in the political process and that his impartiality will be doubted by the opposition. Ribadu was however disqualified on the grounds that he had not attained the age of 50 years, which is mandatory for the occupant of the post of INEC chairman. Ribadu will be 50 early November and the presidency believe with a general election scheduled for the first or second quarter of next year, no further delay can be entertained in the announcement of a replacement for Prof. Maurice Iwu who has since last month proceeded on terminal leave.

Justice Belgore and Oguntade were dropped on account of age. Both men are over 70 years. Oguntade whose candidacy alongside that of Ribadu initially enjoyed support from President Jonathan was said to have been dropped from the list after some close associates of the President alleged that the respected Judge is particularly close to a former governor.

Yesterday, however, the names of Bello, Jega and Yakub were mentioned to THISDAY by sources in top circles that are highly connected to the nomination process of an INEC chairman.

Though Bello has wide support across board but sources in the Presidential Villa say Jega remains the front-runner.
Bello, from Kebbi State is a lawyer and was educated at the Ahmadu Bello University. He was called to the bar in 1984. He had served as senior registrar in Sokoto Judiciary before transferring to the state ministry of justice where he rose to become director of public prosecution.

He was nominated by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to the Constituent Assembly in Abuja in 1988. As NBA chairman of the Sokoto branch, he was an ally of late president of the bar, Mr. Alao Aka-Bashorun, an indication of his radical bent.

In 1989, he transferred his services to the federal public service as assistant director of legal services with the National Electoral Commission (NEC). He later became director of legal services at the electoral commission where he played a key role in the implementation of the transition programme of the Babangida administration.
Bello’s candidacy enjoy wide support from the international community and the civil society groups.

His performance in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), where he not only pursued even cases against the government with zeal and fairness but also exposed cases of human rights abuses in the country to the international human rights bodies, endear him to the international community which sees him as a fearless and honest man.

The civil society groups also cannot forget his role in the Babangida transition period where as Director of Legal Services of the electoral body he confronted the anti-democratic forces represented by the Association for Better Nigeria (ABN) seeking to prevent the June 12, 1993 presidential elections from holding.

Bello served as a legal consultant to the Uwais Electoral Reform Committee based on his progressive and reformist role during his period as Chief Legal officer of the electoral commission at a difficult period in the nation’s history.
He has served in committees of many international organisations. Bello was appointed by President Olusegun Obasanjo as Chief Executive Officer of the national Human Rights Commission (NHRC). He was redeployed in 2006 to the federal ministry of justice.

Like Bello, Jega is also a radical leftist. The university lecturer came to limelight when he emerged president of the ASUU in 1988. He is the current Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano.

He has also served as director, Centre for Democratic Research and Training.
The erudite professor of political science is also a well-published author. Many believe he has proved to be an astute administrator with his handling of the affairs of BUK.

Yakub was born on March 3, 1951 at Okene, Kogi State. He graduated with a first class degree in political science from Bayero University, Kano.

Yakub further attended the University of Sussex, Brighton, East Sussex in the United Kingdom for his higher degree. He started his academic career in 1981/82 as graduate assistant at the Usman Danfodio University (UDU) where he rose to the rank of a Professor of political science in 1998.

He has held several positions within and outside the university system which include, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UDU chapter, member governing council, UDU, deputy vice chancellor, Administration, secretary, national caretaker committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Abuja and member, Independent Policy Group that finalised President Obasanjo's policy thrust in his second tenure. He has attended more than 60 conferences and presented technical committee papers and publications.

He belongs to many professional associations, editorial boards of many journals and a research fellow and consultant to several national and international organisations.
Politics › Bayelsa Lawmakers Receive N2.4bn For Constituency Projects by mbulela(op): 7:48am On Jun 06, 2010
•No link with on-going deputy gov’s impeachment process, says govt
From Segun James in Yenagoa, 06.06.2010

Twenty four members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly have had the votes for their constituency projects released by the state government. Each of the constituencies that the 24 lawmakers represent will receive N100 million for approved projects.

But the state government last night defended its action, and said although, the development coincided with the on-going impeachment process against the deputy governor, Perebowei Ebebi, the release was not in any way linked with the impeachment notice that has been served on Ebebi by the lawmakers. Seventeen of the 24 lawmkers signed last week the impeachment notice served on Ebebi who had been at logger heads with the governor, Mr. Timipre Sylva.

Co-ordinator, Ministry of Information and Tourism, Hon. Nathan Egba, told THISDAY on telephone that the government undertook to execute the projects now “, because we are more comfortable this month than last month. The allocation we received this month is better than that of last month. We are aware of the speculations making the round in the state that we decided to release the votes for the projects now because of the impeachment; this is a mere coincidence. The release has nothing to do with what is going on in the state Assembly.

“If the government decided to cite projects in constituencies, who else should it pass the projects through, than the elected representatives of the people?” he asked.

However, THISDAY gathered that majority of the legislators, who allegedly made the release of the vote for the constituency projects a condition to continue in the process to remove the Deputy Governor, have since Friday, been staying at the Government House, Yenagoa, as they perfect the deal with the state Ministry of Finance officials.

Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon. Kumbowei Benson, told newsmen at the Government Guest House 10 where some of the legislators now live, that some of the lawmakers moved to Government House following a bomb blast near their legislative quarters, a situation which forced some of them to scamper to safety in the Government House while others moved out of the state to Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos .

On the allegation that they were induced by the government with the release of the constituency vote, Benson said the money had been earmarked for payment before the impeachment notice was served on the deputy governor. He said the release of the vote has nothing to do with the impeachment move, instead it was a mere coincidence, he explained

He denied that the money would be paid to the legislators directly, but admitted that the vote would be paid to a contractor recommended by each of them for projects located in their constituency.

It would be recalled that the release of such votes to lawmakers has been the practice in the state since the era of former governor of the state, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha. A lawmaker at the time was paid N100 million Constituency Project Fund each year by the state government.

In 2008, the refusal of the Speaker, Chief Wernipre Seibarugu to release the fund for some House members, who were part of the move to remove Governor Timipre Sylva generated crisis in the state.

However, Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Silva Opuala-Charles said he has not been given any order by the governor to release any constituency project fund.

Meanwhile, barely five days after the impeachment notice was served on Ebebi, the scramble for his office has begun with five persons indicating interest in succeeding him. Among the contenders for the number two slot is the Speaker, who is from Bayelsa Central.

Others are the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Gideon Ekeuwei, also from Bayelsa Central; the Commissioner for Youth and Conflict Resolution, Bekes Etifa who is from Bayelsa West, the same constituency as Ebebi, and who was the person used to counter Ebebi’s influence in his Ekeremor area by the government.

Also in the race is the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa and the only female, Mrs. Aghata Goma. She was a former colleague of Sylva in the old River State House of Assembly in the Third Republic.

Goma, who is believed to be highly favoured by the Governor, was a Commis-sioner for Education under Alamieyeseigha, but is now the Chairman of the state Parks and Gardens Committee.

Sports › Rio Ferdinand Out Of World Cup 2010 by mbulela(op): 12:06am On Jun 05, 2010
Heartbreak for central defender after he suffers a knee ligament injury in England's first training session in Rustenburg

Fabio Capello was left to lament the "curse of the captain" tonight after Rio Ferdinand was ruled out of the World Cup with a knee ligament injury sustained in training. The Manchester United centre-half is braced for up to eight weeks in rehabilitation after twisting the joint as he stretched to tackle Emile Heskey in the last few minutes of England's morning session at the Royal Bafokeng sports campus today.

While the clash had appeared innocuous, Ferdinand's agonised scream immediately alerted those present to the gravity of the incident. The 31-year-old was helped from the training pitch in obvious discomfort and, along with the national team doctor Ian Beasley, was taken by ambulance to the Netcare Ferncrest hospital in nearby Rustenburg to undergo a scan.

Doctors later confirmed he had sustained damage to his medial ligaments and, while the Football Association did seek out a second opinion, it subsequently conceded the player had been ruled out of the tournament.

Initial estimates that the centre-half could be out for four to six weeks could yet prove optimistic, with the player himself fearing he will be absent for nearer two months, rendering him doubtful for the start of the new Premier League season.

Capello, frustrated if pragmatic as ever, has called up the uncapped Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Michael Dawson, 26, as an emergency replacement, with Steven Gerrard installed as England's captain for the finals and Frank Lampard stepping up to vice-captain.

"The other players were upset, absolutely," Capello said. "Training stopped and, although I hadn't seen the incident, Rio told me he'd put his feet down and twisted in the tackle with Heskey, then he felt big pain in the knee. Big pain. It's the curse of being the captain again and, it's true, it couldn't have been much worse on our first full day.

"All the players here with me are important, but Rio is one of the players who starts the games and is the captain, and a leader. It is obviously bad news and everyone with the squad is very disappointed and sorry for Rio. It was an accidental injury in training, and had nothing to do with the pitch."

Dawson, unused in the recent friendlies against Mexico and Japan and utterly untried at this level, flew out from Heathrow to Johannesburg tonight as a replacement after spending the day with his wife, Anna, celebrating their first wedding anniversary. He will now compete with Matthew Upson, who has started nine of the last 17 England matches, and the experienced if only recently recalled Jamie Carragher and Ledley King for a place alongside John Terry at the heart of the England defence.

"It's a crazy game and things can change in a split second," Dawson said. "One minute I'm trying to arrange my holiday, then I get a call asking if I was on holiday because Rio had pulled out of training. I said 'no' and then I was just waiting by the phone before getting a call saying I would be picked up in an hour. It's been a crazy day. For Rio to get injured, there would be no worse feeling for him as a player. To miss the biggest tournament in the world as the captain, I feel for him. I missed the Carling Cup Final in 2008, and there was nothing anyone could have said to me that could have made me feel any better. For Rio, the feeling will be the same, but it's a chance for me now.

"I've not had time to think about it but I've had call after call with people wishing me good luck. I know all the lads through having been with them for two weeks so I'll just be going out there and training as normal.

"I was planning to watch the first game of the tournament with my friends and family, but now I'm going to be there for real. I'll be going out there still having not yet won a senior cap, so where better place to get one if that was to happen. But I'll just go there and train like I do every day at Spurs and we'll have to see what happens. It's great to have four other Spurs lads out there as well."

While Capello's squad perhaps boasts more depth in quality at centre-half than in other areas of the team, they have achieved only seven clean sheets in 24 games under Capello to date and doubts remain over King's ability, in particular, to play twice in a short period of time given his own chronic knee complaints.

That will remain a concern for the England management staff, who had deliberately tested the 29-year-old Spurs captain to the limit during the recent training camp in Irdning, Austria, albeit under the supervision of the Spurs physio Nathan Gardiner. King played all of the 3-1 win against Mexico at Wembley, but was not involved in the friendly against Japan in Graz and trained alone with the physios today while the rest of the squad completed the session.

Yet, as Capello considers his options with the opening Group C fixture against the USA a week away, the squad's thoughts linger on Ferdinand. The injury represents a crippling blow for a player who had been selected for a fourth successive World Cup finals – he did not play at France 1998 – but whose domestic season had been wrecked by a succession of back and related groin problems.

The defender had started only 19 of United's 55 games in all competitions last term - he has missed 10 of Capello's 24 games in charge to date - and had displayed an understandable rustiness in the two recent friendly victories. Yet to suffer such a serious injury unrelated to those back problems in only England's second training session in South Africa was cruel, the defender returning from the hospital on crutches with a blue brace strapped around the joint.

The FA's medical staff were in regular contact with the United club doctor, Steve McNally, thereafter with the player expected to return home over the weekend. Capello himself was all phlegmatic acceptance, publicly at least, though this is the latest in a line of problems with which he has had to contend in recent months. The Italian has seen the chief executive, Ian Watmore, and the chairman, Lord Triesman, depart the FA; has lost David Beckham to an achilles injury and Wayne Bridge to premature international retirement; and felt compelled to strip John Terry of the captaincy over off the field issues.

"Rio was always an important player for us, even if we have played games without him," said Capello. "But I have big confidence in my players, in the defenders we have. All the players here are ready to play for me. They're at the same level.

"This is what happens sometimes. It is normal for a manager. Normal. You have to take into account that something like this could happen: whether it is in a game or in training. I remember it happening to me in the build-up to a final when we had to do without Dejan Savicevic [for Milan ahead of the 1995 European Cup final against Ajax]. You have to deal with it. We just have to pray: help us. No more injuries."

Politics › Bayelsa: Lawmakers List 10 Offences Against D’gov by mbulela(op): 8:03am On Jun 04, 2010
From Ike Abonyi in Abuja, Tunde Sanni in Ibadan and Segun James in Yenagoa, 06.04.2010

There seems to be no let in the move to remove Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Peremobowei Ebebi from office as it has emerged that the state House of Assembly levelled 10 impeachable offences against him.

The lawmakers had on Tuesday slammed Ebebi with an impeachment notice signed by 17 of the 24-member Assembly but the details of the allegations against him were not known then.

In the meantime, President Goodluck Jonathan has lamented the lack of trust that has continued to characterize the governor/deputy governor relationship in the country, calling for tolerance as a way of advancing the course of democracy.

Jonathan who spoke at the 60th birthday anniversary of Oyo State Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala at Molete Baptist Church, Ibadan expressed misgivings at the continued face-off between some governors and their deputies, blaming the trend on mistrust.
He declined to speak specifically on the ongoing move in his Bayelsa home state to remove the deputy governor occasioned by the problem between Ebebi and his boss, Governor Timipre Sylva.

One of the impeachable offences listed against Ebebi was that he allegedly refused to account for N29.6m overseas medical treatment allowance approved for him by Sylva in February, 2009.

He neither allegedly made the trip nor returned the money to the state treasury, the legislators said.
According to the impeachment notice, which was made available to THISDAY yesterday, the deputy governor was accused of “willfully deserting his official duties by refusing to attend without reasonable cause the weekly executive council meeting of Bayelsa State in January."
Below are other allegations against him:

*That he failed and refused to attend state functions without lawful excuse since February.
*That he abandoned his office and official residence since February without official leave and has deliberately neglected and refused to perform the functions for which he was elected.
*That he, without regard to the dignity of his exalted office openly fought with the then Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Council Chief Ben Robert Eyororokumoh and shot him with a gun thereby causing him grievous bodily harm on the 28th of November, 2009.

*That he openly and publicly sponsored demonstrations against Governor Timipre Sylva on 30th November 2009 in Abuja and on the 20th of April 2010, which portrayed the Bayelsa State government in bad light and subjected it to public contempt and disrepute.

*That he deliberately embarked on a press propaganda against the government of Bayelsa State and the governor by granting press interviews wherein he made false and distorted statements which were disparaging of the office and personality of the governor by calling His Excellency Chief Timipre Sylva “a rascally Governor”.
*That he publicly declared to the entire world in a press interview that he can no longer work with his Excellency Chief Timipre Sylva and that this statement is a clear expression of insubordination and unwillingness on the part of the deputy governor to harmoniously work with the governor.

* And that he, in violation of his oath of office, sponsored acts of terrorism with a view to making Bayelsa State ungovernable by recruiting gunmen who acquired and stored large quantities of explosives, together with arms and ammunitions, in Latik hotel owned by him located along State INEC Road, Yenagoa. The mercenaries employed by the deputy governor recklessly detonated the said explosives along State INEC Road , resulting in wide spread panic and tension in the state capital and its environs."
The notice was signed by Deputy Speaker Nestor Binabo, and Assembly members Obuebite Jonathan, Alfred Egba, Igrubia Walaman, James Ayobegha, Benson Konbowei, Fini Angaye, Kuroakegha Dorgu and Fanama Emomotimi.
Others are Yousuo Amalanyo, Chief Victor Sam-Ateki, Ebamua Empere, Kalabo Hawkins, Nadu Karibo, Leader of the Hous Mrs. Ruby Benjamin and Franklin Otele.

THISDAY has, however, learnt that Ebebi has been advised by Ijaw elders to resign his position after a meeting they held in Abuja Wednesday night.

The elders are said to be looking for a “soft landing” for Ebebi and have advised him to step down.
Sources at the meeting said the soft landing option was arrived at in order to save the deputy governor from humiliation.
The state government and the state police command have, however, accused politicians in the state of plotting to provoke the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
The government said the strategy of the perpetrators was the use of bomb on properties owned by elected officials and public buildings.

In a statement by the Acting Commissioner for Information, Communication and Strategy, Chief Nathan Egba, the government described this as a new dimension to politicking in the state.

At the resumed sitting yesterday of the State House of Assembly, 17 members of the assembly involved in the activation of the impeachment process removed the House Committee Chairman on Information, Communication and Strategy, Chief Robert Enogha, over undisclosed offences. Enogha was one of the six members who refused to sign the impeachment document.
Enogha was also opposed to the second term bid of Governor Sylva and kicked against Ebebi's impeachment.

Enogha is said to be a deputy governor aspirant to Senator Emmanuel Paulker in the race for 2012 in the state.
At the airport in Ibadan to welcome Jonathan were three governors namely Gbenga Daniel (Ogun), Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun) and Segun Oni (Ekiti), as well as Minister of State Finance, Remi Babalola, former Oyo State Governors Omololu Olunloyo and Kolapo Ishola.
