Mariangeles: Only a man [husband] has the right to return the bride price of the woman[wife] he married. Are you serious? Pride price is now dowry, Pride price is paid by the groom's family and is returned by the pride's family if the marriage is to discontinued. Dowry is not returned to the pride's family at all. Probably in your culture, the reverse is the case and that's fine. |

SixSeven: Looks like a kid wrote this. Even with that, being buried 6 months ago does not mean he died 6 months ago. Burial is the real confirmation of death. I could remember vividly how elders would refer to a corpse in the mortuary as "someone still in the hospital". I asked my uncle why and he told me that "a person remains alive until buried". This is the more reason why one's burial rite is conducted after fifty years of disappearance. |

Mariangeles: Chekwube, onye asiri!
Who returns "pride prize" after the husband is deceased? Yes, bride price is returned. If not, you are still married to the late husbands family. Ours was returned and rejected for lack of respect for the family and the father of her children. Note: we were never against her remarrying. No. But, at least, complete the one year morning period and then move on. |

MadamVanessa:

The end of this useless contraption is near. Everything is just playing outsimultaneously. The unfair sentence of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by a Yoruba judge is the crux of it. This land will never have peace henceforth. I am shattered, I am broken, I am emotionally down, I swear Igbos are seriously hated in this country.. God speaks for them , speak for them dear Lord.
If there was anytime I was against Igbo agitation for self independent, please my dear people forgive me, I was blind and naive then , but ever since I started seeing the high level of hate and marginalisation on them, I started seeing things in different view point. Till my mortal eviction, I will forever support their cause even though I am not Igbo. It's better late than never. I don't blame any Nigerian who is against the disintegration of this forced marriage called Nigeria. 1. An Igbo man (Nnamdi Azikiwe) was the one who insisted on one Nigeria. He got his wish. 2. His dreamed country was the model of the United Kingdom and the USA. Regional independence was paramount. 3. When corruption became the basis for civilian government in Nigeria and other African countries, Major Kaduna Nzeugwu (who was more northerner than Igbo) lead the coup aimed at making Awolowo, a visionary leader, the head of state. This noble intention was thwarted by Ojukwu in the east, and Agui-Ironsi in the west (both of whom were Igbos too). Yet, the coup was labeled Igbo coup by British Media, a move to find a means of getting back at the Igbo nation because the Igbos resisted and fought British Government imperialism for over 31 year (Ekumeku war, a topic for another day). 4. Agui-Ironsi took over government, and to ensure the continuation of Nigeria as one entity and to selfishly consolidate power as a military head of state, he mindlessly introduced unification decree. 5. The British continued to push for the punishment of the Igbo nation, thus, instigated the northerners to carry out a counter coup aimed at Igbo genocide. Ironsi was killed and Gowon took over government. 6. Ojukwu, a visionary, sort a way to restore Nigeria to it's factory settings of true Federalism (Aburi Accord), British advised the north against it, thereby forming a pack with the already manipulated northern and western Nigeria against the Igbo. 7. Ojukwu lead the Igbos to liberation war for the sake of the Eastern and Western Nigeria. He was betrayed by the Western Nigeria and he lost the war and lost our freedom in Nigeria since then. 8. Today, Igbos are termed the villains who hate Nigeria, whereas they have been at the forefront of Nigeria unification and quest for total freedom. 9. It's no Nigerian's fault hating the Igbos because of the ignorance of the truth. I will forever blame the British for whatever that is going on in Nigeria and for every polices cum agenda against the Igbos. Buy the truth shall set us free one day. Today, I'm proud to say: God Bless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu forever God bless Biafra! God bless Every Nigeria of Noble Intention! |

Iceking1: My question Is why do so many Generals go on compulsory retirement whenever a new chief of Army staff Is appointed. I have noticed that there are always a lot of Major Generals in the army. In which there are always no lieutenant Generals, except promoted to chief of army staff.
Also, from my years of observations, all the selected chief of army staff are always major generals before being promoted to Lieutenant Generals, when picked as chief of army staff.
What's confusing me right now and what I still can't get my head around Is why do other generals go on compulsory retirement Even when the newly chief of army staff Is being promoted to a lieutenant General, which Is superior than a major general.
Because from what I have observed, the generals that always goes on compulsory retirement are always major generals, can someone please enlighten me on this? If a general from course, let's say 40, is made a Lieutenant General, all the Major Generals of Course 39 must retire because they can't take orders from their juniors no matter how humble they are. |

Romance › Re: Why I Lost Interest After Meeting A Pretty And Intelligent Lady by McBishop2020: 2:26pm On Oct 30, 2025 |
tobeezman: I met this fine geh at a tech event in Lagos. Before the event started, we had a little chit-chat and mehn, she was exactly my type. Beautiful, intelligent, confident, and we just clicked. You know that kind of connection that feels like you’ve known someone for years? Yeah, that was it.
Throughout the event, we kept vibing, laughing at the same jokes, sharing ideas, everything just aligned.
At the end, I asked for her name she said Linda. Cool name.
Then I asked where she was from, she said Anambra. My eyes lit up. I’m from Anambra too!
So I got curious and asked, “What village?” She mentioned it and boom, it’s in the same local government as mine. I was like, “This is fate.”
Everything was lining up perfectly. She was single, I’m single, we shared interests, goals, and background… until one tiny moment changed everything.
She gave me her business card and I didn’t see a single Igbo name on it. Both her first and last names were English.
When I got home, I texted her, I asked, gently, “Don’t you have an Igbo name?”
Her reply?
“I don’t like my Igbo name, and I don’t like speaking Igbo either.”
That one message drained everything I felt for her. Instantly.
It wasn’t about tribal pride or anything dramatic, it was just the realization that we might see identity differently. Because for me, being Igbo isn’t just where I’m from, it’s who I am. It’s the rhythm in my thoughts, the tone in my laughter, the root of my values.
And when someone rejects that part of themselves, it feels like they’ve rejected a part of me too.
So yeah… I ghosted her. Not because she wasn’t amazing, but because something in me went cold. I know a girl whose name is Adanne Ifeoluwa Eze. Her parents are Igbos but she has a Yoruba name (not minding that she nor her parents never lived among the Yorubas). That's love for certain people or language or culture without compromising your identity. The girl speaks Igbo, Hausa, English, and sees every Yoruba as part of her though she doesn't know how to speak the language yet. |

tobeezman: Not at all! If she was yoruba and she is proud of her yoruba name and heritage, I will not ghost her. I will choose a yoruba lady that bears "Kemi Joy Adeyeye" to "Joy Peters". I don't know how best to explain this. Your explanation is apt. Whosoever is ashamed of their identity is a person of inferiority complex who must surely suffer from identity crisis , and can easily deny you any day, anytime to survive. |
