I decided to fact check the authenticity of this competition and below is my findings:

The International STEM Olympiad (ISO) Grand Final, held in Rome, Italy (2–8 July 2026), is a real, established international academic competition, not a fake or fabricated event. It is organized by Main Team Organisation GmbH, a Germany-based educational organization, and brings together students who qualify through earlier online rounds in Mathematics, Science, Technology and Engineering.

That said, it’s important to distinguish it from the world’s oldest and most prestigious science Olympiads:

* The ISO is legitimate and international.
* However, it is not on the same level of prestige as competitions such as the International Mathematical Olympiad, International Physics Olympiad, International Chemistry Olympiad or International Olympiad in Informatics, which are government-backed, country-team competitions with extremely rigorous national selection processes.
* The STEM Olympiad has broader participation and a different qualification model, allowing schools and students from many countries to enter through online qualifying examinations.

Who were the winners?

As of the latest published results, Nigeria had an outstanding performance:

* Don Anele Munachimso
* 🥇 Gold in Science
* 🌍 Declared World Champion in Science
* 🥇 Also won another gold medal
* Egejurum Onyedikachi
* 🥇 Gold in Mathematics
* 🌍 Declared World Champion in Primary Mathematics
* Chimdiebube Onwubiko
* 🥇 Gold medal

Together, the three Nigerian students won four gold medals, making Nigeria one of the best-performing countries at this year’s Grand Final.

How should universities view this achievement?

A medal from the International STEM Olympiad is:

* ✅ A genuine international academic achievement.
* ✅ A strong addition to a student’s CV, scholarship application, or university application.
* ✅ Evidence of strong ability in STEM subjects.

However, it does not carry the same global prestige or admissions weight as medals from the IMO, IPhO, IOI, IChO, or similar official International Science Olympiads, which are widely regarded as the pinnacle of pre-university academic competitions.

So the achievements of the Nigerian students deserve real recognition, but they should be understood within the context of the competition’s standing in the international Olympiad landscape.

I am not going to defend anyone but I know lecturers get some extra benefits. I am wondering why a lecturer will post his payslip, your personal information to prove what point? Back to the extra benefits, one of them will be housing. I don't know what the accommodation was. Some schools have staff quarters which is housing benefit and when people compare salaries, they forget that part. If you have children, they may go to that school free as a staff.

When people compare lecturers’ salaries to private-sector salaries in Nigeria, they often ignore the cost savings from housing, schooling, healthcare, and utilities. Those benefits can reduce major household expenses that private-sector workers typically pay fully out of pocket.

My dear, I once lectured at a mission owned college of education in Anambra. There was no extra means or benefits, but I was paid #40k while some lecturers at the institution were paid #25k & #30k.

Guess what? We were meant to bear because it's the lord's vineyard that we were cultivating
