Farmerakinloye6: it bacteria wilt. It happen to few stand of diva ( like 15 out 3000 stand) when I planted both plantinum and diva together last year. It has currently affected like 40% of my diva stands and very few of platinum... I spoke the country manager of East West seeds today's and she confirmed it BW.. |

OluchiDelly: Did you treat the soil with nematicide? Uproot one or two infected ones and check the roots for nematode infestation. You can snap and post the roots zone if you don't know how to check for nematode. 2nd suspect is likely BW. Unlike Padma and platinum F1, I don't think EWS really provide details of diff disease resistance of diva F1 in the public domain. Diva is meant to scale up in size (and color) above platinum. When sizes get bigger, one or two disease resistance is usually sacrificed. Thats what you experienced on your farm between the two. This is also applicable to cobra 26 and cobra 34 where the latter sacrificed Vd resistance for it's bigger size. Yes I treated with nematicide (wormforce) |

Avuu2204: I did a field nursery with Platinum F1 on Feb. 22nd and I sprayed insecticide/fungicide on the bed prior to planting the seeds.
Noticed that half of the seeds did not germinate. Have you ever experienced this with nursery beds? I was wondering what could’ve gone wrong because I didn’t experience that when we used to plant local varieties.
Could this mean the soil type won’t sustain Platinum F1 if transplanted? give it sometime...keep wetting the bed. |

ideepaul: In addition to what my oga @farmerakinyole6 said about nutrients, you could use a water soluble fertilizer in very very small doses while watering, pls very small doses o! And pls always use sterilised materials for your nursery as your plants may have been infected, nothing you can really do about it as most times it doesn't affect your transplanted crops too badly, but prevention of calamity is better than cure thanks senior man...I always appreciate your contribution to my queries.... |

good day everyone,as we have started gradual preparation for 2023 farming season, please i would like to know important ,last year i used raised bed for my nursery preparation and i have decided to use seedling tray and coco peat this time. i've seen several suggestions online about using cocopeat in nursery preparation and different models of using them, the models includes , 1) just ordinary cocopeat soaked in water 2) soaked coco peat mixed with manure 3) NPK added to the water used in soaking cocopeat 4) calcium nitrate added to water used in soaking cocopeat 5) Tecnokel Amino CaB (liquid calcium) and DI grow red added to the water used in soaking cocopeat.
please guys which of this methods is tested and trusted method to guarantee the best result..
please treat as urgent.

ideepaul: Without thinking twice, it's not enough! Your tank is likely going to be a 3000L tank, and that's not enough for 2 plots except your plant population is less than 1000 plants...that height is enough as the horizontal distance shown isn't significant to cause challenges... buying extra tanks isn't feasible, cuz structural integrity of the tank stand must be considered to avoid failure...buy a generator if you don't have one, and plan for fuel...there is a reason why dey season farming isn't easy and commodities expensive Thank you,I have a generator, but I am yet to get a farm assistant that will stay on site..the person helping me stays in another neighborhood, comes in the morning leaves in the evening ,I don't want to loose the generator to thieves ,they stolen alot from me already.. That's why I hoping I could pump the tank full, use it for like 2 days repump and keep doing so till I get an assistant..my targeted stand is 3.5k -4k |

OluchiDelly: Glad to see you rising above your past failure. Please use good seed with good disease resistance this time around, havestf*d seed is not there yet. To your question, i wl call your attention to 2 things. 1. pressure/height of tank 2. volume/capacity of tank.
1. The higher your tank, the higher the pressure that drives water through the drip tubes. i would have preferred height above 12ft for better result. but if you want to use the 12ft height: (i) you will avoid using filter cos it wil further reduce the pressure. That means your source of water must be very clean. (ii) your offtakers/connectors must have tap/valve, just in case if pressure could not drive water well to the extreme emitters, you will need to close some taps for the others. Tag flowmama to advise further on the suitable height, i think she uses gravity for her drips.
2. What is the volume of the tank? What is the population of the plants you are planting? How many litres of water do you intend to serve each plant? The motive behind all these questions is for you to know if your tank can supply the needed water per day. For instance if the capacity of the tank is 4000L, and your plant population is 2,500 and you intend serving 2L of water per plant per day....you know the outcome already. Thank you @oluchidelly , I learnt a very important lesson this year...always take advise from actual farmers alone, people that owns a farm and plants what they talk about, there are lot of virtual farmers these days,I was convinced by someone that all hybrid seeds are ok,that was what led to me buying the royal bold f1 variety..it was a total disaster, lost 98% of the plant the bacterial wilt despite buying different fungicides although the few stands was left produced the biggest tomato fruits I've ever seen,I saw fruits weighing between 800g and 1kg they were enormously big and looking like pumpkin but very few.. It wasn't a total tho as i also planted platinum f1 too which did really well from which I recovered all the money I spent and more.. Thanks for your opinion on this issue I really appreciate..I am still gathering Intel.i am scared of having to leave my gen at the farm. Picture 1 my first harvest Picture 2 fruit from one of the royal bold that survived

However, plantinum has more demand in market than diva because not all can afford it.if you are planting like 10000 stand, I will advise you plant 4000 diva and 6000 plantinum. thank you sir... i believe platinum and diva has same diseases resistance quality right? |

Alsenora: It's most likely the variety you planted. A different breed might not have issues. I currently have two different types with one having zero issues while the other is quite similar with yours. The ones having issues in my field are trial seeds on few lines. You could try any other proven seed type peculiar to tropical low lands next time, however, the one you have might do well in a different site within the same geographic location. i agree.. |

OluchiDelly: 3. You complained of incessant rainfall yet u said no flooding. When I said flood, I did not mean a large mass of water like those that ransacked communities. If the compound is fenced, it wl also create barrier for rain water to jet out. I normally puncture my fence at the base for this purpose. 5. Royal bold is a big fruit variety, so prepare very well for strong stakes. 6. It's wilting, it looks more like bacteria wilt than verticilium wilt. Both are usually activated by excess water in the soil. Fusarium wilt is more of dry season disease. 3) actually the land is on a slope, there is a big valley down the land so water doesnt stay at all...not even flash flood. 6)i am not sure there would be any plant left to stalk before they start fruiting.....they wilt by the dozen everyday. |

OluchiDelly: 1. I can see 2 to 3 seedlings at a spot, this is not healthy for for your crop. Oga Akinloye has actually condemned this your method earlier. Those who plant 1 seedling per hole are still trying to prune for betterment of the crop 2. Your farm is too weedy. This can also harbour germs. 3. Your ridges may be too low which allow flood to partially or fully submerge the length of your seedlings. Flood is no tomato's friend. Also watch out for lowland/potholes that can harbour stagnant water beside your crop during rainfall. 4. How often do u spray insecticide and fungicide? 5. Tell us the name of the cultivar you planted. I pity our opv tomato brother in this current weather in the south. thanks for the reply boss, first of, i am a first time farmer and this is my pilot project..all i know about tomato farming,i learnt from this thread and watching farmer akinloye videos on youtube. 1) initially i planted just one seedling per spot but after transplanting i still have a lot of seedlings on the bed so i was convinced by some people to go ahead and double it,obviously that was my first mistake. 2) the weeds too are there because of the incessant rain fall, i have contracted someone to clear the weed but its been raining everyday.. 3) there is no flood at all on the farm land, its actually compound ,it just happen to be a very big one,but there has never been insident of flooding. 4)i spary every 7 daysi have sprayed just 3 times, the tomatoes are just 26day old after transplanting(23 day in nursery)..i am using saaf, cabri duo and jumper d 5)the cultivar is royal bold f1 from harvest field... please with your last statement are u suggesting it could be too much water?
