PoliticsI Broke No Law By Dodging NYSC, Says Adebayo Shittu by MediahelmNG(op): 10:41pm On Sep 21, 2018
The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, has said that he did not violate the Constitution by not participating in the compulsory one year National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) Scheme.
The minister stated this while speaking with newsmen on Friday in Abuja, arguing that his case could not be compared to that of the former Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun.
The minister who is one of the All Progressives Congress(APC) governorship aspirants in Oyo State, spoke after being interviewed by the APC screening committee.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the media had been awash with reports that the minister did not participate in the mandatory one year NYSC program after his graduation from the University in 1978. The compulsory NYSC programme began in 1973.
Former minister of finance, Adeosun resigned last week Friday following allegations that she forged the NYSC exemption certificate.
Shittu stressed that whereas the former Minister of Finance submitted a fake NYSC exemption certificate, he didn’t obtain any certificate.
He added that he considered his service at the Oyo State Assembly as, “a higher service”. He said that he had not infringed on any law in the country’s Constitution by skipping NYSC.
“Nigerian Tribune even reported that I left University in 1979, but in actual sense , I left in 1978 and left Law School in 1979.
“And the Constitution says anyone who qualifies to contest an election or who has gone through an election and wins, he is obligated to move through the House of Assembly which I did for four years.
“So it is a form of higher service as far as I’m concerned, and even now, I am still in service.
“I don’t think I have violated the law except someone has a superior argument and can prove it,”the minister said.
He stressed that his case was not like that of Adeosun, because according to him, there are differences.
“Unfortunately, Kemi had a fake certificate, I didn’t present any, I didn’t have one.
“I simply followed the constitutional requirement that if you are qualified to contest an election, it is compulsory for you to serve the nation in the capacity that you won an election,”he said

CrimeGhana To Deport 72 Nigerian Prostitutes by MediahelmNG(op): 7:22pm On Sep 21, 2018
Seventy-two Nigerian women and a Togolese, are to be deported by the Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for being in the country illegally.

Most of the Nigerian deportees were also said to have engaged in prostitution in Ghana, apart from lacking the requisite resident permits.

They were arrested along with nine Ghanaians in a swoop at the Redco Flats neighbourhood at Madina in Accra on Thursday, September 20.

The Ghanaians are to be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for prosecution.

Briefing newsmen during a Press Conference yesterday, Public Affairs of the GIS, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI), Linda Asare Mantey, at a press briefing said the swoop was based on intelligence the service gathered.

According to her, 20 of the suspects were arrested at the Junior Hotel at Madina whilst the rest were arrested in the same vicinity, which is noted for prostitution activities.

She said the foreign nationals would be repatriated to their home countries whilst the Ghanaian nationals would be handed over to the police for further investigations and prosecution.
Illegalities

Supt. Mantey said although eight of the foreign nationals claimed they had passports, they could not produce any such documents, explaining that “the GIS has requested for their travel certificates from the Nigerian High Commission as well as the Togo Embassy to send them back to their various countries.”

The suspects, she said, had refused to give details of their presence in the country, including when they entered Ghana.

According to her, the suspects “have built ghettos and kiosks where they operate,” adding that some of the suspects were arrested in the act.

“It is illegal to come to the country and engage in prostitution,” she said, cautioning prospective foreign nationals and Ghanaians who engage in such practices to desist from it.

Supt. Mantey also cautioned owners and managers of hotel facilities who hire their facilities out to irregular migrants and locals to use for prostitution to refrain from it, saying “We will go after them.”

She gave a hint that the Enforcement Unit of GIS would embark on similar exercises in other areas where both irregular foreign nationals and locals engage prostitution activities.

Foreign AffairsSouth Africa’s Constitutional Court Decriminalised The Private Use Of Marijuana by MediahelmNG(op): 12:31pm On Sep 18, 2018
South Africa’s Constitutional Court decriminalised the private use of marijuana on Tuesday.
The ruling came after a provincial high court in 2017 found out that the use of cannabis in private space should be allowed because laws against it were inconsistent with the country’s constitution.
The state appealed to the Constitutional Court, which upheld the high court’s findings.

“It will not be a criminal offence for an adult person to use or be in possession of cannabis in private space,’’ Judge Raymond Zondo said in handing down the judgement.
The judgement did not say how much cannabis one may have at home for private use.
Celebrations broke out in the court, which was packed with marijuana advocates and members of South Africa’s Rastafarian community.
“It’s been persecution and prosecution for the Rastafarian community,’’ one of those celebrating, Prince, told TV channel eNCA.

Two former gang members of billionaire kidnapper, Evans, were, on Monday, sentenced to 41 years in prison by an Ikeja High court sitting in Lagos State. .

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced the convicts, 32-year-old Kelvin Emenike Ukoh and Emeka Obasi, 33, over the abduction of one Ugoje Jude, a shipping agent, and his staff, Miss Piriye Gogo on August 3, 2012.

The convicts were arraigned in 2013 on a 14 count-charge bothering on conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery and murder.

The gang had kidnapped Ugoje and Gogo who were taken to an unknown destination by their leader, Evans. Miss Gogo said she was almost raped inside the car, but was saved by her monthly menstrual period.

While being led in evidence before the court, Gogo disclosed that during the abduction, one of the kidnappers, Obasi, came into the car, after dragging her boss out for negotiation and started handling with her breast.

Gogo said, “He came into the car, tore my clothes, pulled down a side of my bra and began caressing my breast. He thereafter started dragging down my shirt and I began begging him. .

I begged him until I had nothing else I could plead with. I begged him intensely for mercy and even told him that I was menstruating.

It was as though all my pleas fell on deaf ears. I had to insert my hand into my vagina just to show him. The blood I showed him prevented him from raping me. It was a terrible experience.”

Also testifying, Jude said his abductors initially ordered him to pay N10m for his release but after negotiations, they collected N5m.

After listening to them, the trial judge, Justice Taiwo convicted and sentenced Ukoh and Obasi to 5, 15 and 21 years for conspiracy, kidnapping and armed robbery respectively.

Celebrities'our Parents And The Generation In 40s Destroyed This Country' - Music Executive by MediahelmNG(op): 2:43pm On Aug 28, 2018
Nigerian music executive, KC Delgado has said our parents and the generation in their 40s now, destroyed this country. 'They are at centre piece of everything wrong with Nigeria today, but that's gist for another day' he said.

According to him,

'we go abroad to school, we get part time jobs, we get summer jobs, we do all sort of menial jobs to support ourselves. Here in Nigeria, no! We are too proud to work because we are students and as such we hop into people's inbox to shamelessly beg for money and some sisters have made it a point of duty to turn a guy they are dating into ATM machines simply because they had sex. Now why didn't you say it from the onset that everything is pay as you go, so you go spare the guy the emotional stress of toasting you and all'.
Back to the matter, after secondary school, myself Jibril Takuma, Ochaba Ochaba and a bunch of other kids will go to shelter clay to work, some of us really didn't have to work, we lived in our parents houses, there was food and a very comfortable life, but we understood that to have cash in your pocket for the extras you needed to hustle to get it,

What has changed? Everyone is forming for the 'gram, begging up and down, embarrassing themselves in the name of I'm a student I need money for project. Your parents sent you to sch it is their responsibility not yours. If they weren't capable why didn't they push you into acquiring a skill to at least sustain yourself.

CrimePolice Arrest 2 Suspected Ritualists In Lagos, The 3rd One Lynched By Mob by MediahelmNG(op): 1:03pm On Aug 28, 2018
The Lagos state police command have arrested two suspected ritualists, Folake Falade, and Emmanuel Gbenga, at the Ijanikin area of the state

A statement released by the police command's spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, says Folake was found inside a tunnel, under the Cele Nicer Bridge, Ijanikin, Lagos with a decomposing human body.

The discovery attracted an irate mob which nearly lynched her but was saved by the quick intervention of a contingent of policemen drafted from Ijanikin Divisional Police Headquarter, who raced to the scene.

The rescue team thereafter searched the tunnel and arrested one Emmanuel Gbenga believed to be an accomplice of the female suspect while the third suspect who escaped from the tunnel to avoid being arrested was caught by an irate mob who set him ablaze.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal, has directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ijanikin to cordon off the scene and ensure that the remains found in the tunnel are not tampered with pending the arrival of police forensic experts expected at the scene today 28th August for scientific examination of the corpse, the tunnel and other exhibits found therein.

Imohimi said it is regrettable that despite the various townhall meetings he had held to sensitise communities in the state to the evil of jungle justice, some people at Olorunshogo community constituted themselves into a mob and took laws into their hands by killing one of the suspects who might have been very useful in the ongoing investigation had they handed him over to the police.

He warned that anybody found to have participated in the killing of the yet-to-be-identified man, will be arrested and charged for murder to serve as a deterrent to others with penchant for taking the law into their own hands.

Crime''Only God Can Determine When Leah Sharibu Will Return'' - Femi Adesina by MediahelmNG(op): 12:37pm On Aug 28, 2018
The presidency as reacted to the audio released by Boko Haram to prove that Leah Sharibu, the only remaining Dapchi school girl in their capitivty, is still alive. Recall that in February, 119 Dapchi school girls were abducted. In March, 113 were returned by Boko Haram while Leah, a Christian who refused to convert to a Muslim, was held back.

Yesterday, a faction of the Boko Haram sect released a video as proof of life. Leah who has been held captive for 7 months now by a breakaway faction from Boko Haram called Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), pleaded with the government of Nigeria to secure her release. She also pleaded with Nigerians to assist her family at their time of suffering. Read here.

Reacting to the video this morning on Channels TV, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said only God can determine when she would return home. When asked how much longer would she be in the captivity, Adesina said

''I think that question can only be answered by God but I believe that God is interested in that young girl and will ensure that she is preserved. By the time the video clip we have now is verified, One would be sure it is her actually and when that is determined, we should all be glad that she is alive. When will she return? By the grace of God, government is working on it, working at it and we believe she will be back.''
Adesina also stated that President Buhari had always maintained that his government would do everything possible, including paying money, to ensure that the abducted girls are released.

Politics''curses Can’t Affect Me Because I Am Doing The Right Thing'' - Gov Ajimobi Says by MediahelmNG(op): 2:28pm On Aug 22, 2018
Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has said that no matter the amount of curses people place on him, he is not moved or perturbed because he is doing the right thing.

Ajimobi said this when he spoke with newsmen after the Eid el-Kabir celebration at Agodi Eid Ground. He said this while reacting to the number of curses the state residents have placed on him following the demolition of the music house owned by singer Yinka Ayefele.

“The lesson I learnt from the sojourn in the last seven years that we have been running the government is that one needs to fear God. If one fears God, no matter the curses placed on him, such curse can never have effect on him. And if someone does what deserve curses and people pray for such an individual, the prayer cannot work for such a person. For me, no matter the curses, it can never affect me because I know I’m working for prayers and not curses. I’m serving the people wholeheartedly and I’m happy that God will give us success.”

Speaking further, Ajimobi said

“I never persecute people, but follow the law and stick to it. Those who say you are wrong today, tomorrow they will see. As a leader, anytime you want to make a change, some people, enlightened, unenlightened, ignorant, mischievous will play politics with it. But, a good leader must have the courage to go ahead. If you remember the great Prophet Mohammed, when he was talking about the Almighty God to the people, they sent him away from his hometown. So, anytime we, as leaders, heads of government are trying to make changes, people talk, but we forge ahead, no matter what they say. We will never allow this state to become a banana state. We will not allow it to be an animal farm. If you see any state that is doing well in the world, it is that they have rule of law and they obey them. Everybody must obey the law. So, we thank God that we succeeded because we have adhered to law and order.”
