^^Damn! Get a job He created chances, he scored, terrorized United for long periods. He just had one unbelievable miss (I never thought that I would see Torres miss a chance like that) after an excellently timed run and rounding of the keeper. He was the Torres of old, but that terrible miss, he would have been MoM. |
Kaduna United missed two penalties in that game. |

Bayelsa United chairman Victor Rumson Baribote was yesterday returned unopposed as chairman of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), , at an election organized by the NPL Electoral Committee and supervised by the Nigeria Football Federation. The declaration of Baribote as NPL Chairman by the Electoral Committee followed the award of an Arbitration Tribunal headed by Professor Ibidapo Obe and upheld by a Federal High Court, Abuja on August 2, nullifying the May 8, 2010 poll that brought Davidson Owumi to power. Baribote led a dogged fight for over a year to unseat Davidson Owumi, who an arbitration panel ruled was not eligible to contest for the NPL polls. Fifteen of the 20 clubs from last season's NPL were in attendance at Wednesday morning's vote ordered by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja. The absentees were Gateway FC, Sunshine Stars, 3SC, Enyimba and Warri Wolves. Also elected yesterday was Mohammed Abdulazeez of Ranch Bees of Kaduna as Chairman of Chairmen of the NPL. The NPL board announced Tuesday that the elections will be conducted yesterday afternoon by a new electoral committee. An Abuja High Court recently ruled for a re-run of the NPL elections. The immediate task for Baribote is to ensure a resolution of the dispute over the title sponsorship of the NPL as well as the vexed issue of the revenue due the league from their various sponsors and partners. Baribote will also have to work overtime to return public and corporate confidence in the NPL after a long-drawn squabble over their leadership, which was dragged to court against FIFA statutes. The 2010/2011 league season still has four rounds of matches to be played after it was temporarily halted without any notice as a result of international engagements of several of the clubs as well as a clash with Federation Cup matches. In his acceptance speech, Baribote promised to reconcile all members of the Premier League family and work harmoniously with the Nigeria Football Federation to bring real growth and renaissance to the domestic game. http://allafrica.com/stories/201109150927.html |
The Vice President of Finance explained that the Club's finances have improved, with record revenues in the 2010/11 season, and a debt reduction of 15.5%, but warned that the situation remains "delicate". The economic situation has improved at the Club, but even more must be done. This idea is what the Vice President of Finance, Javier Faus, sought to convey on Wednesday at a press conference which served to analyse the Club’s finances at the end of the 2010/11 season, and to present the 2011/12 budget. "We followed an austere line, we’re committed to growth and we’ve reduced the debt, but we’re still in a delicate situation. The debt is still too high for us to be able to dictate our future. We can’t afford to owe so much money to the bank, and we need to generate more income" he said. For Faus, a net debt of approximately "just over 200 million” would be the ideal situation, rather than the current 364 million. Debt reduction of 15.5% However, the path being followed is the correct one. In one season, the debt has been reduced by 15.5% (from 430 to 364 million). "It’s not the debt that we want, and we have to reduce it further, to sustainable levels, with regard to the cash flow generated by the Club. We’ll continue to work on it " repeated Faus, who wanted to emphasise the importance of not relying so much on the banks. Less losses than the budgeted loss As he advanced some time ago, Faus explained that the 2010/11 season closed with a loss of 9.3 million Euros, a figure much lower than the budgeted 24.1 million, a year ago. He also presented the highest income "in the history of Spanish football" according to Faus: 473 million Euros, 58 more than in the 2009/10 season (14% more). "It’s a motive for satisfaction" he said. 20.1 million budgeted profit Looking to the 2011/12 season, the Club has budgeted for a profit of 20.1 million Euros, revenues of 461.1 million, and costs of 430.2 million. These previsions include lifting the League title, and reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League. If Barça get further in Europe, these numbers will vary. In any case, Faus explained that if, in the 2010/11 season, they had won the League and reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League, the increase during 2011/12 would be 7%. Cost Reduction, one of the objectives In this sense, Faus said that income in the marketing area is increasing, due to the agreement with Qatar Sports Investment, and expenditure "isn’t dropping because the wages without winning titles have gone up". That is, Alexis and Cesc earn more than the players who’ve left the club. The vice president indicated, however, that the Club "will continue trying to reduce overall spending", focusing particularly on wages of the various sections, which have increased by 20% in four years (and those of football only 6%). |
dayokanu:Villareal's line-up vs Barca: Lopez; Zapata, Rodriguez, Musachio, Oriol; Marchena, Bruno, Valero, Cani; Nilmar, Rossi. This what what I posted before the match: ^^Yeah, Villareal aren't the same as last season. They've lost Cazorla, their chief creator for some time now to Malaga and they're yet to replace him. I watched them struggle to break down Odense in the CL qualifiers in midweek. |
dayokanu:Villareal were without Gonzalo Rodriguez, Borja Valero and Cani started from the bench. |
dayokanu:That was an extremely understrength Villareal side you faced. Their captain, Gonzalo Rodriguez was on the bench. Borja Valero, their engine room, is injured and couldn't play. Cani started from the bench. Cristian Zapata they signed from Udinese has been shyte so far and they sold their best player, Santi Cazorla to Malaga and signed Jonathan de Guzman, who I think is just decent, as a replacement. Their midfield today was Carlos Marchena(old man), Bruno Soriano, Marcos Senna(old man) - holding midfielders and de Guzaman. If you had played them last season when they reached Europa League s/finals, walahi, you for chop am and by some heavy margin. |
usbcable:I don't think La Decima will happen in this our life time o. You guys have been chasing La Decima since I was learning to crawl. |
Fantastic goal by Cardozo. |
Some bit of history: Real Madrid have never won wearing the red jersey. They've never scored a goal. . . Hopefully, that repeats itself tonight. |
galatico:It was all a dream. |
We never should have allowed that first goal in. Our defensive line was ridiculously high, and Pato exposed our defence with quite an ease. Neither of Busquets or Mascherano are explosive and pacey when it comes dealing with situations like that. All credit to the "Duck" though. He made it look so easy and simple. Lack of width was evident at times, and the way both Pedro, Villa and Alves were cutting in was only to Milan's favour. They played with a really tight and packed defence, while maintaining their concentration throughout. They gave nearly no space whatsoever. I honestly think that we should've started with both Abidal and Mascherano as CBs + Adriano as an LB. Alves and Adriano could have given us the required width, with both of them bombarding up and down the flanks with Masch and Abidal remaining at the back. Busquets could have been deployed in his natural position. All credit should be given to Milan, tho. They were dangerous on counter-attack and the likes of Seedorf, Zambrotta and Nesta showed they still have it. Those last-second tackles made by Nesta were absolutely amazing. Such a class act and he still reads the game remarkably well, despite of his lack of pace. Abbiatti had a busy night as well and made few crucial saves that kept Milan in the game. Milan really made the game extremely entertaining to watch. To be fair, despite of the disappointment of drawing last night, the game itself gave me such a thrill. Now, we really should have finished Milan off when we had the chance to do so, instead of passively passing the ball around without much of end-product. And once again it bit us in our bums. Hope Pep takes note of this. Furthermore, we really need to work on defending set-pieces and corners. The lack of height is one thing, but we still should be able to deal with such threats adequately. |
Great game eventhough the result wasn't really fair. It's the group stage though, we can still make up for lost points. I really don't understand why Pep is stuck on playing Keita as a DM. Busquets could have played as DM while Abidal and Masch partner at central defence. Keita is terrible as DM. He can't even defend; he can't tackle, he can't mark, doesn't close down when he's supposed to. He and Busi were responsible for the first goal. He could have stopped Pato. Busi is not a CB. I've said this over a billion times and we're really missing his services in midfield. I hope Pep sees this finally. Busi as CB is a fat no no. With Pique out, we're really vulnerable to aerial balls. There's no one to dominate in the air. Silva had a free header for Milan's equaliser. No one to challenge him. I like Abidal but my problem with him is that he makes too many silly mistakes. My God! He had no business conceding that corner. All he needed to do was guide the ball and let it roll out of touch for goalkick - basic defending. . . Abidal hasn't been the same since he had that operation. Adriano should be our first choice LB. |
Iniesta out for four weeks. |
Dvampire:Roy Makaay - 10 seconds. Fastest goal in CL history. |
Barça line-up: Valdes, Alves, Busquets, Mascherano, Abidal, Keita, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Messi and Pedro AC Milan line- up: Abbiati, Nesta, Zambrotta, Abate, T. Silva, Van Bommel,Seedorf, Nocerino, Boateng, Pato, Cassano. |
usbcable:Not yet. Team Dubai takes over officially June or July 1st 2012. |
Busquets is a legend, lol. Luis Enrique's Roma lost 1-2 to Cagliari at home y'day. Lucho is finding it rough over there in Rome. They've also been k/o'd of the Europa League by lowly Slovan Bratislava. There's something about Italy and Spaniards. They just can't survive there. Our own Pep was a flop at Brescia. Benitez failed with Inter. . . Bojan played in that game y'day and he was terrible. |
Ibra injured, will miss the match. We won't get the chance to see Ibracadabra vs The Philosopher. |
