Emir of Karaye in Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II, has called for proper investigation into the death of a 26-year-old man, Abdulkadir Nasiru, who was allegedly tortured to death by the police.

Information Officer of the Karaye Local Government/Emirate Council, Alhaji Haruna Gunduwawa, who made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen said the Emir made the call after receiving a report of the incident from the father of the deceased, Malam Nasiru Madobi, and the District Head of Madobi in his palace.

He called on the Commissioner of Police in the state to ensure proper investigation into the alleged torture and killing of Abdulkadir by some police officers in the Madobi Division.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident.

He said, “Four policemen had already been arrested in connection with the incident.”

A cattle trader has been arrested by men of Ondo State Police Command for raping a 10-year-old girl in Sango Area of Akure North Local Government.

The suspect identified as Lawan Sale lured the little girl with money and raped her while she was on her way to school on Thursday, November 6.

“On that day the girl was going to school, and the man, who is fond of doing this, called the girl into his room, where he committed the act after he had promised to give the girl N50.

“The girl’s mother later discovered that she (victim) did not wear pants to the house and asked her why she was not putting on her pants and she confessed that it was Lawan that had sexual intercourse with her” an eyewitness said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Femi Joseph confirmed the arrest of the suspect and stated that the case has been transferred to the Criminals Investigation Department of the command for investigation.

He further disclosed that the rape victim has been to the police clinic Akure for treatment and investigation has commenced on the rape case after the mother of the victim reported the matter to the police.

Wife of Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu at the weekend made history as the first governor’s wife to complete a 10 km race in Nigeria.

Sanwo-Olu who participated in the fourth edition of the Lagos Women Run said that her intention was to run 2 km of the race.

“My intention was to run 2km, but seen women in their thousands in pink, make me go the whole 10 km of the race.

“I feel the Lagos Women Run is a way of networking among women folks, I also belief that the race is to encourage general fitness and well-being among women.

“It also assist small business and local vendors make money; the race has come to be of the biggest fitness event for women,” Lagos first lady said.

Meanwhile, Coordinator of Lagos Women Run, Tayo Popoola, has called on women to support each other toward ensuring gender equity. Popoola said that the coming together of women would help to fight gender imbalance, promote wealth, being hospitable and creating happiness among them.

The 10km race took off from Tafawa Balewa Square and ended at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

The Navy Board has approved the promotion of 140 naval officers to the next ranks in the Nigerian Navy.

Navy Director of Information Suleman Dahun made this known in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

A breakdown of the promotion released showed that 65 Lieutenant Commanders (Lt.-Cdrs.) were promoted to the rank of Commanders, while 26 Commanders were promoted to Captains (Capt.)

32 Captains were promoted to Commodores and 17 Commodores were promoted to the rank of Rear Admirals (Rear Adm.).

Mr Dahun listed the newly-promoted Rear Admirals as Dickson Olisemenogor, Elkanah Jaiyeola, Baribuma Kole, Othaniel Filafa, Akinga Ayafa, Danjuma Moses, Vincent Okeke and Yakubu Wambai. Others, according to him are: Emmanuel Beckley, Perry Onwuzulike, Nuhu Bala, Chukwu Okafor, Tanko Pani, Ibrahim Dewu, Monday Unurhiere, Joseph Akpan and Olumuyiwa Olotu.

Mr Dahun said those promoted to Commodores include , Kabir Mohammed, Shehu Gombe, Ibrahim Mohammed, Musa Katagum, Gideon Kachim, Semiu Adepegba, Pakiribo Anabraba, Bob-Manuel Effiong, Suleiman Ibrahim, Danjuma Ndanusa, Haruna Zego Ayoand Adedotun-Vaughan.

Others he said were: Victor Choji, Mohammed Dahiru, Nnamdi Ekwom, Stephen Ibrahim, Desmond Igbo, Mohammed Muye, Kunle Oguntuga, Aniefiok Uko, Olufemi Adeleke, Etop Ebe, Usman Faruk, Paul Efe-Oghene, Michael Igwe, Ikenna Ubani, Musliu Yussuff, Samuel Ngatuwa, Omotola Olukoya, Dolapo Shittu, Abiodun Alade and Emmanuel Anakwe.

“The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas on behalf of officers, ratings and civilian staff of the Nigerian Navy, rejoices with these newly promoted officers and their families.

“He urges them to rededicate themselves to their responsibilities and remain loyal to the nation and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR,” Mr Dahun said.

Personal physician to Late Chief MKO Abiola, Dr. Ore Falomo, is dead.

Falomo, a former Medical Director of Maryland Specialist Hospital, was said to have died in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness.

Though no official statement has been issued on his death, some leaders of pan Yoruba group, Afenifere, have reacted to his death.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo described him as a progressive, nationalist, patriot and successful medical practitioner.

Adebanjo said Falomo fought for democratic ideals and was loyal to the struggle.

Senator Femi Okunrounmu described the late medical doctor as a courageous fighter who was loyal to Abiola to the end.

The pan Yoruba group is expected to issue a statement on his demise later.

Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has inaugurated 21 commissioners and seven advisers as members of the State Executive Council, charging them to justify the trust reposed on them in their appointments.

The governor said at the inauguration of the new cabinet members in Gombe on Saturday that the expectation on the government to perform was high.

According to him, the pressure is now on our administration to work together to deliver good governance and democratic dividends to the good people of Gombe State.

“It is our hope that you will do your utmost best in order to justify the confidence reposed in you.

“Our administration rode to power on a tremendous public goodwill and support. Our people, across all tribes, faiths and sectional divides, gave us their mandate in an unprecedented show of political support and unity.

“We are conscious of the responsibility and the weight of expectations that has been placed on our shoulders.

“The expectations are very high and there is no time to waste. You need to hit the ground running.

“Therefore, we cannot afford to fail them at all cost,’’ he said.

According to the government, there is need for the newly appointed officials to ensure that mistakes that could have dire consequences in the future are avoided.

“We have seen how mistakes of the past plunged our State into a terrible financial situation. We also observed how mistakes by one administration will continue to drag the State downward even after that administration had left.

“I am happy that at the end of the retreat, all our Commissioners, Special Advisers and Permanent Secretaries signed onto a declaration, affirming their commitment to a noble set of principles on good governance, transparency and accountability.

Yahaya called on the cabinet to work together as a team in order to pursue the common objectives of improving the social, economic and political conditions of our people.

The governor also inaugurated seven special advisers and two permanent secretaries.

On behalf of newly inaugurated cabinet members, Mr Zubairu Umar, Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, thanked the governor while promising to assist the governor to achieve his vision and mission for the benefit of the people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor also assigned portfolios to the new commissioners.

The EFCC, on Friday, November 8, 2019 arraigned one Adamu Isyaku Dan'auni, and his company, Dan'auni General Merchant Nigeria Limited before Justice Lewis Allagoa of the Federal High Court Kano on a one count charge of forgery. .
.
The defendant was also previously arraigned alongside one other by the Commission before the Kano State High Court for alleged conspiracy and theft to the tune of $1,031,501.45. In the build up to the case before the Kano High Court, the defendant was found to have forged some documents in order to defraud the complainant which prompted his fresh arraignment before the Federal High Court.
