Sorry just wanted to see if I could still post here. Well this awkward... erm... Je suis Charlie? grin

To be fair there's a reason muslims are the only group who have their own little safe space on nairaland. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

When muslims protest against the segregating privilege Islam for Muslims brings, when you guys decide to be merged with others in the religion section and be exposed to all manner of criticism from atheists and christians, then, and only then, would you have a right to criticise others. So get the placards and start protesting snowflakes. cheesy Toughen up. cool

Well getty images, which is obviously very reputable, uploaded that image years ago, 2012 to be precise, so maybe it was a suggestion regarding Biafra that you didn't notice at the time. Glad to clear things up.

That picture is not Biafran women, that's Liberian women during their uncivil war, Biafra didn't use women to fight, you're an impostor

Hi, do you have any proof to show they are Liberian and not actually Biafran? Because when I did a reverse image search the oldest result was from getty images and tagged the women as Biafran. No hint of them being Liberian in any of the results.

Phones / Problems Making Payment On Playstore by MerryMonody: 9:37am On Mar 07, 2017
Whenever I try paying for a app on playstore it says "correct this card info or try a different card." I've tried so many things. In the Google payment center it says "transaction declined, invalid payment method" or just dismisses my card. And there's nothing wrong with my card. I've bought stuff on Google play with it before. This is really frustrating. Please can anyone offer any suggestions to solve this problem? Thanks!

My opinion though

I sincerely understand your assertions. But we are in a new age. There are new rules concerning sex meant to protect women, even the passive ones. Now you hear of men getting charged with rape simply because the woman didn't say yes. It might sound unreasonable but there are women who remain passive in situations like this and don't know how to react, even when they are clearly in an uncomfortable situation.

That's why it's necessary to make sure she is fully aware of what's happening and wholeheartedly wants to engage in it with you. If not it remains a violation of her body.

All of y'all just mention saner climes to win an argument!

Saner climes as in many western countries where boys don't high five each other for "touching brezz" and running away and people don't blame "konji" instead of the man for things like this.

Check out this video and see the reactions on Youtube to it and also the repercussions the police man faced.

Nobody disputed it, nobody asked why she wasn't heard screaming, nobody said "konji na bastard, poor mopol." That my friend, is what I mean by saner climes.

He didn't kill or rape to deserve such public embarrassment jor

This is a big problem we are having, Nigerians thinking silence means consent. No it does not. This was a big issue of contention in western colleges and led to the No means No, Yes means Yes policies. If you are attempting to make sexual advances towards a girl, make sure she verbally and very frankly agrees to it. Do not rest on the "she did not scream" argument. That is outdated.

Politics / Re: The Hypocrisy Of Biafran Activists? by MerryMonody: 10:23pm On Feb 14, 2017
To people talking about the history, Israel just legalised the occupation of private Palestinian property. If this is fair in relation to the history of their conflict please explain.
Politics / The Hypocrisy Of Biafran Activists? by MerryMonody: 9:57pm On Feb 14, 2017
Many Biafran activists decry the occupation of land in the South by the Fulani, the Fulani's murderous and oppressive campaign and the impunity the government bestows upon them, yet they support Israel, a nation aggressively occupying Palestine land, a nation that has killed, harassed and oppressed the people of Palestine and whose nation has now legalised this terrible annexation.

My question is, is there any difference between this and Buhari supporting the sovereign state of Palestine yet opposing Biafra? Shall we lay the guilty verdict on both parties or is only one complicit in this charge of hypocrisy? Or do you support Isreal at all?

I truly want to know your answers to these questions. Thanks!

Lastly, do note that I am Igbo, so do not belittle this promising interlocution with bigoted terms like "Afonja." In fact I have previously made a post that highlighted the possible merits of seccession for the South East. It's in the link below.

Dude, This is AFRICA. The dynamics are different. If you are a small African nation with huge natural resources, you become an immediate target for western multinationals and their indigenous agents. You are not allowed to just do what you like. They will make sure you get a president who will do their bidding. A stooge. You need international capital to build infrastructure etc etc, so will need to capitulate to the IMF, World Bank etc etc... If you try to do a Hugo Chavez or Mugabe, forming nationalist, you will go the way of Venezuela and Zimbabwe... starved with sanctions. The road is tough for small African nations with great resources. If it wasn't, every Liberian would be a millionaire. They are a small country with one of the largest DIAMOND deposits on earth, yet...

The only way to resist and repel this external influence is to be a big country like Nigeria. Look, if Biafra is actualised, a country like France could just come in there and start dictating things, like they do in in Ivory coast, Cameroun etc. They will even decide who will be your president, like they did in Burkina Faso, with Blaise Compaore. cool

I get your point, I really do. It's quite valid, but please hear me out. With seccession not every region will have these highly demanded natural resources, and that's a good thing for them. Your post excellently explains why natural resources could be a burden, why the worst places to live in are dictatorships that are highly "blessed" with natural resources. And the best places to live in? Nations with good democratic systems and without natural resources. It seems counter intuitive but it isn't. Without natural resources, there's only one way to generate wealth: human resources. The better kept these human resources are, the more productive they are and the more wealth they generate.

Please please don't dismiss this theory just yet, watch the short video below. It's so enlightening on this, in fact on politics in general. You won't have a iota of regret. Also please read my article after wards. It was deleted a few weeks back.

Hello, please before going further, watch the following video: Rules for Rulers. That's the foundation of this post. You would be absolutely lost without it, and it's probably one of the most well thought out videos you'll see this month.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rStL7niR7gs

Now that you've watched the video, let's see the connection to Biafra. I'm a firm believer in true federalism, but should the government be too stubborn to implement it and tensions escalate till some regions secede, there might be some surprising benefits to it for some regions. My focus will be on the South East. Now the video lists out 3 rules for attaining and retaining power: acquire key supporters, control the treasure and minimise key supporters. There are principles that follow these rules, the two most vital to my post are:
• The more the key supporters you need to be in power and create wealth, the shorter and more democratic the system is;
• If your main sources of wealth are the human resources, there's a greater likelihood you'll provide infrastructure and social amenities for them because that would make them more productive.

How does this connect to Biafra? Well how does this not? By the way when I say Biafra I mean South Eastern states. A homogeneous country, a nation-state, would in my opinion be the best. Just look at Nordic countries, which are some of the best places to live in. They are all small homogeneous states. Homogeneous states have common beliefs and principles, there is also this great spirit of nationalism which does foster that collective "sense of purpose". All over the world, economic development and a strong democratic system usually correlates with ethnic homogeneity:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2013/05/16/a-revealing-map-of-the-worlds-most-and-least-ethnically-diverse-countries/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C4815086978

A Biafra consisting of the South South and South East would attract a lot more tension and distrust and we'll soon be back to where we were, maybe even worse. However I do genuinely wish the South South well.

Now to the first principle. The more the key supporters you need to be in power, the shorter and more democratic the system is. The Igbo people have always been a decentralised/democratic bunch. The largest political units were villages, powers were shared between different organs: council of elders, age grades, title holders, umuada's etc. Igbos have always had multitudes of keys needed for power. It is their culture. Thus returning to the proper practice of this shouldn't be difficult. I believe if the nation of Biafra is achieved there should be even more devolution of powers. Regional governments would be stronger than the central government. Labour unions would be empowered and a host of other policies would be implemented that would create the necessity for having many keys to power and a thoroughly democratic system.

To the second principle: if your main sources of wealth are the human resources, there's a greater likelihood you'll provide infrastructure and social amenities for them because that would make them more productive.

The greatest resource of the Igbo nation is the human resource. Igbo people have been known to be very industrious and resourceful. They could easily excel in manufacturing, trade and agriculture. This is yet another major reason why it is not advisable to form a country with the largest oil producing states. Yes some Igbo states produce oil but not to the extent of it being the main source of wealth for the nation. If Biafra secedes and it is dependent on oil the government will not deem it necessary to develop the land, because the people are not necessary to create wealth. A government that is dependent on human resources and that needs many keys to power will have to increase the stardard of living for the people, because this is the only way he can make people more productive and create wealth; and it is also the only way he can retain his many necessary keys to powers.

In conclusion, there is a good possibility of the Igbo nation florishing should it secede. Should the unitary government of Nigeria fail to implement true federalism, this does seem like a valid option.

So, what do you think of the Rule for Rulers video? Do you agree with some of its theories? Would some of its principles help your region or Nigeria as a whole?

Note: please do not engage in or entertain any form of tribal bigotry, whether Igbo or non-Igbo. As you can see the op has not been insultive towards any tribe and will appreciate if a civil dicussion can ensue. We are educated people, not dogs. Thank you!

Can the guy above stop posting ignorant, discredited, racist trash videos pls.

Secondly, the people who want to break up Nigeria had better realise that their balkanized little ethnic countries will simply join the Sierra Leones, Gambias, and Togos of this world, sinking into international irrelevance like the aforementioned, and becoming dependent stooges of foreign powers, who usually order those smaller nations around. When you become your tiny new country, nations like Ghana and Kenya will suddenly become your boss. No more rubbing shoulders with South Africa. They will be your absolute boss and director..Your country will become susceptible to warlords and instability, like South Sudan. Before you know it, they will be sending UN to pacify your mayhem. So be careful what you wish for...You just might get it.

No more Super Eagles.
Super Falcons, Bye Bye.
No more Nollywood, currently dominating screens across the black world.
No more Nigerian dominance of African music, entertainment and fashion..
Just little, inconsequential 'countries' none in the world gives a toss about.....Shame. How art the mighty fallen? From international reckoning to nothingness. From grace to puny, inconsequential grass. Pity.

You know the best countries to live in the whole world are all small homogeneous nations: Denmark, Sweden, Norway etc. The only large nation in that group, Japan, is as culturally homogeneous as it gets. I don't know about you but I'll choose a good quality of life any day over "global power."

MORE ON MMM IN SOUTH AFRICA

A South-African man has schooled Nigerians who are MMM participants.

Relaying his experience of what happened to the popular money doubling scheme in his country way back in May, the man said contrary to reports that the participants will get their money when the bans on mavros have been lifted, nothing like that will happen.

“Nigerians This Serves You Right You Guys Are Very Greedy, This Was The Same Technique MMM Used To Scam People In South Africa” (Must See)
He said that was the exact thing that happened to them in May and up till now, no one has been able to get their money. He went ahead to say that Nigerians should have leanrt from South Africans. Read what he wrote below:

''LOL u should have learned from your brothers and sisters here in south africa , our old mavro maoney is gone as we speak and MMM is at silence as we speak so watch out for this ponzi schemes i have also learned my lesson here in south africa but atleast is not to much money that i lost''

“Nigerians This Serves You Right You Guys Are Very Greedy, This Was The Same Technique MMM Used To Scam People In South Africa” (Must See)

From reports gathered by NAIJ.com Gossip, this exact occurrence happening in Nigeria had happened also to the South African MMM sometime back. Headlines like:

"Controversial “donation platform” and alleged Ponzi scheme, MMM" and "South Africa collapsed and rebooted amid what it calls a “media panic”, flooded the news page when it happened in SA.

In a notice posted to participants of the scheme after it happened, the group said that “persecution against MMM organized by the mass media” has provoked a panic which has forced the scheme to “start all over again”.

MMM’s administration said that the scheme’s currency – “Mavros” had been frozen and were impossible to use. The group blamed the collapse of the system on media reports and South African banks, which it alleges have hurt and robbed “millions” of people who were part of the MMM scheme.

The scheme said it has started over with a clean sweep and all users whose mavros were frozen will be rewarded handsomely. They promised that the “old” version of the Mavro currency will be ‘bought out’ through trades of the “new” version of the currency, where equal value would be paid out to participants over six months, using 10% of total trade – effectively placing a debt burden on all participants. All these were made known May 1, 2016. See the exact notice as sent to all participants below:

"Dear participants!

Unfortunately, the persecution against MMM organized by the mass media has provoked a panic. We have been working in South Africa for almost 2 years and we have millions of members. During all that time, we had no complaints and accusations from participants, everything was paid to everyone in time and in full amount, by 30% per month. We held charity events and helped children. We did a lot of useful things for people! Well, who was suffering from this?

"The bankers and the adherents of the current unjust financial system. That is why they planned and brought all these crazy investigations and persecution in the mass media. “The only thing which prevents the investigation is the fact that non of the participants reported to the police”. If there are no complaints, and everybody is happy, then what is the investigation for? What is the subject? Did not they understand the consequences? Did not they understand that their irresponsible actions would hurt people? Millions of people! Well, try oppressing any bank, even the most reliable one, in the same way, and see what will happen tomorrow.

"However, it is futile to explain that to them. MMM prevents banks from robbing people, that is the only reason why all this is happening. And nobody cares about people. If we managed to pay millions of participants 30% per month for two years (and would still be paying, if the mass media did not lie about MMM!), why do banks not do the same? Why do they offer only a few percents a year? Make your own conclusions. Thought everything is clear right now. You are simply robbed, we have always been saying it. The modern financial system is predatory by nature. It is not for ordinary people, it is for the bankers. Its purpose is financial slavery! And it achieves this purpose perfectly. In general, in this situation, we have to start all over again. We have no choice. You can see on your own what is happening.

READ ALSO: Tears as MMM crashes in Zimbabwe, millions lose money

Hence,

The current (“old”) Mavros are frozen. Any operations with them are impossible. With the development of the system, we will send 10% of the total inflow (of all the PHs) to pay for the “old” Mavro. According to the experience of other countries, we can definitely say that in the normal course of events, all the old Mavro debts will be paid off in about six months.

“New” Mavros (Mavro bought from the moment of this announcement) are introduced. You can use them on a common basis: to ‘acquire’ and ‘withdraw’ them at any time. All of this, of course, is not very nice, but it’s not the end of the world. We will quickly pay off “old” Mavro debts, no doubt about it. You just have to wait. (And anyway, you can thank your precious media and banks for this “gift”!). The best thing you can do is just to start participating again, that is all. And you will quickly return everything, even with a benefit. Moreover, now is the most favorable time to participate and invite: in fact, everything starts from the beginning. So do not miss your chance! :-)) We hope for your understanding, Administration."

Sadly, MMM still owes the old participants from May till NOW!

Many people are trying to console and reassure themselves that MMM will unfreeze their accounts and would be back to normal in January by using MMM South Africa as a case study. However, looking closely, MMM South Africa might not be the best example to ignite hope.

According to Tori.ng,

A Nigerian public affairs analyst and social media heavyweight, Mr. Aye Dee has openly announced the demise of the popular ponzi scheme - Mavordi Mundial Movement which he predicted months ago.

Mr. Aye Dee

Africa & Middle East Public Policy & Security Expert named Mr. Aye Dee is currently buzzing on Twitter following his postulations about the validity of controversial money-doubling scheme, MMM which has been targeting the vulnerable citizens of developing countries since its emergence.

Against staunch claims by MMM community members that the financial scheme had only encountered a temporary hitch till the 13th of January, 2017, Aye Dee has reiterated that the scheme has collapsed.

He backed up his claim with how MMM South Africa crashed on the 3rd of May, 2016 with a similar strategy of freezing confirmed accounts and a scheduled resumption at a future date.

According to him, all existing investments will be cancelled if at all a possible bounce-back will be made by the invisible administrators of the online community.

Read some his numerous tweets about MMM below.
