Hi MAMAS,
My 7 month baby was down with malaria,we just finished the medication last night but she has not been eating (maybe bitter mouth), is there anything apart from medicine to make her eat/increase her appetite? She is a foodie so I'm so worried cos she has been going without food for 12 hours since she fell Ill. I've started abidec though but guess that takes time.
Breastmilk isn't flowing well enough otherwise maybe that would have tasted good in her mouth.
Also her hair is turning brown. I was using aveeno to wash like twice a week and rubbing shea butter and Johnson oil on it.
Please advise.
Thanks
Hi Mama... Sorry to hear about your LO. I'm sure her apetite will pick up soon especially as she's still recovering. Just wanted to mention that you don't need to wash your babies hair with aveeno twice a week. Once is fine because the soap dries out the hair. We used aveeno too and I noticed a visible difference after we reduced. Also maybe check her nutrient intake. Have you introduced purees yet? What meals does she eat now? Their diet contributes to these things as well. Sometimes it could be genes...
FamilyRe: I Love Children Or Caring For Old People, Can I Get a job With It? by MetroTee:
Ginaz:
You know this country is damn hard and everybody can advise me or tell me a thing or two.

I love children, like taking care of them(bathing, feeding and all that)

And old elderly ones too, I love their look so much and always find them amusing and comforting.

I was talking with a friend and he said it could land me a job and it would be a good ideal if I can get an employer who needs a nanny or someone to care for their elderly ones.

I'm a very honest person, from humble home and truthful and I don't have a criminal record. Do you think I can find a job with this description?

Can I make it as a part time career? Or do you think I can get it as a solid job? What are the possible set backs I might face?
Please I need suggestions and advise.
Yes you can make a career out of it. There are quite a number of care homes in Lagos. I guess you can contact them. Just searched Google to see if vacancies for these roles are advertised and saw this http://joblistnigeria.com/criada-multiservices-fresh-vacancies-4-positions.html

Also see the poster I attached. It's definitely a career on its own. All the best!

*sigh* thanks Mama. I don shout tire, they don't like shutting doors in my house. I had to start locking my room when I go out so at least I'm sure mosquitoes won't bite him at night.
You see I didn't even refer to shutting doors cheesy Its the frustration of shouting that made me goan look for odomos

Mamas abeg help. Can I use odomos or any other mosquito repellant for my 12 week old? I came back from work and whatever the creature is don chop chop all his hands. I'm figuring it came from my balcony and I can't keep him under net all day.
That's annoying. The instruction says use sparingly on infants. Pharmacist explained this to be one tiny dot and not more than once a day and if possible not everyday. Pele

Mamas little help here, d front hairline of my baby is chopping embarassed embarassed any suggestions on why n wat to do?
I wash her hair twice a week...evry other part is growing very well but I just noticed d front is chopping more n more by d day.... HellepMeOhh

Thankss
Hi eribooboo... sometimes the reason why their hair chops is from excessive dryness. And washing the hair too often contributes to this. Try limiting wash with soap to once a week. You can wet other days. Then shea butter/coconut oil to massage the scalp. That will help stimulate growth.

Are you on instagram? Check out @munaandluchi Lots of helpful tips. The edges usually chop first because they are more sensitive

If you set the machine right you shouldn't have any problems!

You can use quick wash and ensure the temperature isn't above 30c. Also try the hand wash settings! It may work for your situation. You can also decide not to spin the clothes in the machine.

I spin mine though and when I had opportunity to use dryer on the clothes I used it with no damage to my baby clothes

I use persil and I've used tide laundry detergent before! They're both alright in my opinion
Wish I knew this earlier. I used to use the baby care setting and it practically damaged her clothes. made them really slack. Now we just do quick wash or hand wash setting

Kai, that is serious oo. The first control for mine is very okay, it moves very slowly but the second control is fast. Well, he didn't use it for long sef because he worked at 11 months. And he actually prefers pushing tables, stools, plastic chairs and co to pushing the walker grin. But I liked the detachable board which was what attracted me in the first place.

@mompurity22 please go for the second one because babies' safety cannot be compared to pleasure.
hehehe... my daughter preferred pushing stools and chairs too, started walking at 11 months as well

And my son used his own perfectly well though I think the product is slightly different. The reason why I preferred it is because of the removable activity board that comes with it. (He enjoys playing with it and learns numbers, music and co through it even till now).

My son prefers playing with the activity board than pushing the walker itself. She can go for the second one though because the safety of the child is also very important.

Cc: mompurity22
I can imagine. my daughter liked the detachable board too. We removed it for her as well smiley I'm sure your brand was more balanced. My niece injured her lip with this brand (got same for both babies) so it was after they told us that i concluded it wasnt just us. Kisses to your LO

the first one is actually cheaper. A friend that has the first one said it moves too fast, is it true?.... thanks ma for your input. kiss to your lo
The tyres can be tightened to control the speed and loosened gradually as baby starts to move more. For some reason though, once she tried pushing, it kept falling forward whether you make it fast or slow

Mama's I have noticed my babies don't like walking (ability taking steps) on the normal baby walker since I started putting them on it. But they can hold something and stand on their own....

so I'm thinking of getting them any of these activity walker. So, which of this walkers in pictures attached works better?..... help me choose pls....
...
The second one may be better. it looks more balanced. We got the educational walker for our baby and it kept toppling over. quite dangerous unsupervised. Even supervised sef, because the babies tend to lean on it. Had to put it away eventually

pls mamas can I use agnesia powder on my baby head and face? she has started having rashes on her face and head, she is just 2 weeks
cc zaynie, liftedhands
cc all mamas
I think 2 weeks may be a little early so she doesn't inhale it. Try observing what may have caused the rashes and eliminate it. Could be her hair oil or soap or even just over dressing. Once that's taken care of, the rashes should clear. Found out my baby's hair oil was what gave her rashes as a new born

HealthRe: Are Medical Contact Lenses Really Safe by MetroTee: 1:55pm On Apr 24, 2017
TCD:
Pls for Whatever Reason, DO NOT GO TO BED WITH YOUR CONTACT LENSES. Why do you need contact lenses in bed anyway, do you have eye problems in your dreams too? When they say a lens lasts for a month, it doesn't mean you should leave it in your eye for a month, it just means it can be used and reused for a Month.

A very beautiful young lady Just had her eyeball removed the other day due to complications of corneal ulcer caused by misuse of contacts made worse by the fact she was just wearing contacts for cosmesis. What a waste.

Please don't play with your life. Those contacts breathable or Not are "Foreign Bodies". Ask any Doctor or even a Med student causes of corneal ulcers and you'll hear Corneal Foreign body amongst many others. Please o, be careful sister.
There are extended wear lenses which are very safe. I have been using contacts for about 4 years now (taking them out every night), been wearing glasses since I was 3 and I tell you that discovering extended wear lenses has been the best experience ever. waking up to go to bathroom and not stretching to look for my glasses, being able to fall asleep watching tv without having to think of my glasses... only people who have worn glasses for 25 years + will appreciate the bliss. lol

It is important however to take them out atleast once a week to let your eyes rest for like a full day and have regular check ups with your optician. Take no chances when using contacts, wash your hands, change tho solution often etc... I will just say dryness of the eyes may be a side effect but there's eye drops for this. just be sure to take out the contacts often enough

My darling...

Firstly, you should have tagged your post "Graphic Pics" because that is Nairaland's rules grin. Secondly, save that pic: one day when a 14 year old is rolling her eyes at you in a bid to be saucy, simply upload it to FB and tag her.

Us mums need all the ammo we can get cool
Hahaha... I'm def saving this. Thanks for the tip grin and thank you for helping me prepare mentally for this. I was shocked that she swallowed hair but not scared. Lol

I do the ones I can and leave the rest. I cannot come and kpai untimely!

Do the little you can do, rest ! Pls, don't kill yourself o, cos life will continue. So pls, sleep while baby is sleeping, back baby if you have little things to do.

Don't work round the clock. The only chore I can ask you to do while baby is sleeping is sweeping, may be Lo is in the bedroom, quickly sweep your sitting room.
I feel you. It's really not easy. DD is 8 months now and I'm back working (from home) so between caring for her, the house, cooking and working on my laptop, I'm a mess at the end of the day. When she naps, i try to catch up with work or send a quick email so I'm unable to clean as much as I would like. Now that she is crawling, she is putting all sorts in her mouth shocked (cc Onegai) Peep her diaper from a few nights ago *Graphic pic*. I'm currently interviewing for a help. Should we do this below? 6 week workout and then we also cut down on bread and rice and carbs (we minimise the amount we eat). I lost weight when I stopped eating 4 slices of bread almost daily. When I was gyming and still eating rice and bread anyhow, no weight left because as I was losing, it ws being replenished. But this time I'm serious.
I'm in. Modified version sha because i like ny meat and pasta Lmao @ being serious this time grin

@ imurboss even basic exercise and a healthy diet will make all the difference. I was in same shoes even up till 5 months pp, started getting shy so reduced my carb intake (just controlled portions) and avoided most of the stuff listed in this pic combined with daily skipping and my waist reduced in 3 weeks. While still EBF and taking my vitamins

Re: about the crawling, well done for her! Big milestone. But you're not allowed to panic until she poops a cockroach leg, you find her sucking on the end of your plugged-in phone charger or you see her sitting down calmly beside your broken wristwatch (with the battery not visible).

Thennnnnnn you panic about her crawling cheesy
Thank you o! But... Pooping a cockroach leghuh I don't even know which is worse among all these scenarios undecided I forsee myself crying soon cheesy

Meanwhile the place is somewhere in VI. When I made enquiries, it was 5k for a day. I don't know about registration or monthly fees etc will make further enquiries and share. Can't get over cockroach leg, i will keep wondering if she swallowed just the leg or the whole thing. Mehn.... cheesy

Swim. Check on Youtube, there are lots of videos. At that age, they are still very comfortable being suspended in liquids/water. My friend used to teach a class to 4 to 6 months old babies abroad at her church. If I knew how to post video. At Ikoyi club, you can take the baby in, but they won't start swimming lessons till 12 months.
There's a mummy and me club- popp Lagos where babies are encouraged to swim from 6 months I think. Ofcourse with mummy holding LO

Thanks for your quick answer. I will sure use it with cauction. I blame myself that she can't fall to sleep on her own. She even tend to wake immediately she placed on the bed, but sleep better if she is carried. God knows I tried so much we don't get to this, I couldn't just stand her cry without carrying, (i guess ttcing for 5years caused this o). I will embrace whatsoever package it comes with so God help me.
Like onegai said, whatever method we choose will bite us later. Lol. I use pacifiers for my LO. Graduated from nursing to sleep because whenever I put her down, she would wake up again so we just pop in the pacifier. Now as long as she is fed; she can suck on the pacifier to sleep. My challenge now is that after it falls out, she moves her mouth (in her sleep) looking for it shocked but it's worked so far. She's 6 months plus now and it also helps calm her when she is fussy
