Education / Re: What Is The Validity Period Of A UTME Result? by MexicanWolf: 7:22am On Jan 05, 2018
kimbraa:
Yes. The sales of forms money is revenue for the federal government, and should be remitted to the federation's account. As for the validity period of the UTME results, I don't think it's been implimented by JAMB and Universities.

Selling 2 million forms? What is the total available places is all our universities and polytechnics combined? Is it up to 500,000?

This is wicked and exploitative. Still, we need JAMB to clarify this.
Education / Re: A Call For A Downward Review Of The UTME Fee by MexicanWolf: 7:17am On Jan 05, 2018
I think we have entered a dangerous place where the emphasis is on how much more revenue JAMB can generate. For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB is not a revenue generation body.

In my opinion, nobody should buy any UTME form until JAMB clarifies the validity period Of the result.

1.7 million candidates write the UTME last year. How many scored above the the recommended cut off marks? How many got admitted into schools? How many couldn't get admitted? These are questions JAMB must answer.

Should somebody who scored 250 last year have to write the UTME this year again? Is it the persons fault that available places are so limited?

Selling 2 million forms when spaces are so limited is wicked and outrageous. We need to stop this.
Education / What Is The Validity Period Of A UTME Result? by MexicanWolf: 6:00pm On Jan 04, 2018
In October 2017 the news was all over the place that the Nigerian Senate has extended the validity period Of UTME results.

Nothing else has been heard of this wonderful initiative. The emphasis now is on how much JAMB generated for the federal government.

The question is: Is JAMB now a revenue generation body on a par with the FIRS or the Nigerian Customs? Should JAMB be generating revenue at all?

My cousin wrote the UTME last year. She scored 280. For one reason or another she could not secure admission into any university. I can bet there are thousands of people in the same boat.

I think it will be patently wicked and unfair to ask them to write the same examination this year just so JAMB can generate the billions and billions it likes to talk about.

JAMB should clear the air on this all important matter.

Celebrities / Re: Tuface Trends On Twitter As Nigerians Support The National Protest (See Tweets) by MexicanWolf: 8:26pm On Jan 31, 2017
I think people use this 'Tuface is an illiterate' phrase to comfort themselves. By your argument, Microsoft and Facebook are both owned by illiterates. I dare you to call either Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg an illiterate. You just can't! Not even in your dreams.
If your definition of an illiterate is someone who cannot speak or write English very well then you are not really smart. We have Chinese professors who do no understand a word of English.
A degree, a N150,000 salary and broken English gives you license to insult a man who, through hard work, has reached the very top of his career? Really.

Webmasters / Re: Naij.com overtakes Nairaland in traffic by MexicanWolf: 3:49pm On Jan 17, 2017
I think more moderation is needed. I find profanity of any sort very distressing. The front page is riddled with expletives; the F word is splashed all over, from thread to thread, not to mention the N word.
Any decent folk would simply stop reading. The moderators should be more to stop this kind of behaviour.
Some people are only here to spam threads with profane F word memes. Ban them. Or it will get worse.

Yes sir, just female. We have a disproportionately large number of out of school girls. Indeed, one of the highest in the world.

We live in a society that privileges the education of boys over and above that of girls. That is not a sustainable scenario for any culture or society.

We wish to lend our voice to the argument for the education of the girl child.
