@venzal thanks for your excellent work, a question for you please.
It is effortless for pros to pull out samples from the arsenal of the past work he has done.
But as a newbie, this might not be simple.
I know the best thing is to find a project and craft a copy as a sample. How does one come up with a brief that can help in writing, as proof of the sample
What do you mean by "a brief"?

You write really well. I think this is well done. Of course, as you continue to practice, improvements will come.

EMAIL FORMULA #8: Q and A

It’s very powerful when you can compile questions that a lot of prospects have and answer them in an email.

Many of the subscribers may have similar questions…

Or they probably would gain more clarity on certain aspects of what you are promoting.

So when you write for clients, think about how to infuse Q&A emails.

Also, some emails will be written to answer JUST ONE question asked by a subscriber who replied to maybe the previous email sent or another email earlier sent out.

Here’s How To Lay It Out In An Email:

1 Someone asked me a question (my comments will follow).

2 Post question or a screengrab of the question (with the sender’s name scrubbed out).

3. Answer the question (what and why, not HOW).

4. If you’d like to learn more/the real way to do this, then go here and get this (CTA).

Here’s an example:

Subject: Questions moms ask before saying “YES” to start potty training…

The mothers who are able to greatly lighten their workload are the ones who ask the most questions…

O’er the last few days, I have gotten some hard-nosed questions concerning the Start Potty Training program.

Wow, I love you girls who have literally held my feet to the fire over Carol’s program.

Because at the end of the day, I only want you to get the program if you know, deep within you, that it is the bridge between you and a diaper-free kid who uses the toilet without any help from you.

So, I wanted to quickly share some of the questions that have been flooding my inbox.
Chances are good that you have one of these questions troubling your mind, but have been too shy to hit my inbox.

So here they are; answered for you…

1. What if my kid is too stubborn?
Awesome! That’s an opportunity for you…

…an opportunity to bond with your kiddo and break that streak of stubbornness.

Your job is to show him WHY he has to get out of diapers and onto the potty.

Then you need to LEAD him on HOW to do just that. Following Carol’s method will help create a bond between you and kiddo that will promptly smash down that stubborn streak.

2. What if I have twins?
Congrats! Twins are great smiley

Whether you have twin girls, twin boys, mixed twins, or even triplets… what works for one will work for all.

And if you are still expecting to beget kids, you will need to also get them potty trained when the time comes. So you need to have this skill stashed in your back pocket now.

3 Will my kid really be trained in 3 days?

I don’t think it really matters how long your kid takes to get trained, what matters is that IT WILL HAPPEN if you follow the start potty training program to the T.
Some kids will EASILY “get it” in those 3 days and be fully trained. Others will not.

It all depends on how much damage you’ve already done to the kid’s psyche with your previous methods. And that’s why you need a better map to follow this time.

4 How much work do I have to put in?

My friend, it’s going to be some work!

I know you didn’t want to hear that and it’d you gritting your teeth.

But when you consider how much long term relief you’ll score from putting in a few days of hard work to potty train your kid the right way, it is well worth it.

5. Can you tell me what I am getting when I invest in the Start Potty Training program?

Of course smiley

You will get access to trusted, solid and reliable information on how to successfully potty train your kid within a matter of days.

You will become privy to the same information that has helped a bucket load of moms around the world finally heal their potty training anxieties.

The program is condensed into three formats;

~~ Book format (PDF).
~~ Audio format.
And…
~~ Video format.

You can choose all or any of them that is convenient for you.

You will also get access to a few bonuses from Carol and also have access to her for any support related issue you may have.

That’s it, <firstname>.

So at this point you should have everything you need to make the best choice for you and your little one.

If that decision is to take the Start Potty Training program…

Then I’ll be pleased to have helped you cross off a major problem on your “mom’s worries list”.

All my best.

~Helen

P.S. if you’re NOW convinced that Start Potty Training is what you need and are ready to join the thousands of moms with success stories, then you should consider doing it now…

…because from what I heard, Carol might decide to jack the price up a lot more considering all the rave reviews the program is currently getting.

EMAIL FORMULA #7: Metaphor/Kind of Like…

Use a metaphor, simile, or analogy to introduce a CONCEPT that sells your product.

How to lay it out in an email:

1 Have you ever ____________ or I was __________ the other day and I noticed ___________

2. That reminded me of/it reminds me of/it’s kind of like/this is just like…

3. The thing is, if you want to ________, you need to ________

4. Introduce the product as the easiest/fastest/cheapest/most effective way to do 3 above.

5. CTA.

Here’s an example:

Subject line: Look at the size of this thing (pic included)

I just got back from vacation/a destination wedding in The Bahamas...

Which is why you haven't heard from me for over a week.

I've been unplugged (for the most part)... and NOT working at all, which was a nice change of pace.

Now, I know you're probably getting ready for a day of Qs, brews, booze and freedom to celebrate the second best day of the year (Independence Day), but before I let you go I wanted to show you the sea monster I caught when I was in the Bahamas.

And I promise the "client getting" lesson I tie into this will change the way you go about "prospecting" for copywriting clients, forever.

So...

On Friday, the groom asked if any of us wanted to go fishing on a charter boat.

I jumped at the opportunity - I'd never done it before.

So we headed into town, hopped on a boat and started cruising away from shore.

^^Captain F'n Ahab over here^^

I, like most things in life, suck at fishing. The last time I went fishing was years ago, and it was in a lake.

So I didn't expect to catch much.

My buddies were all pretty good.

They were droppin their lines in and pullin in fish like it was their job. One of em caught three fish before I even had my pole set up.

Bastard.

The fish they caught were small. About 1-2lbs each. Decent size.

What they were doing was dropping their lines all the way down to the ocean floor. They were fishing for bottomfeeders. Everyone on the boat was dropping their hooks down to the same depth. And they were finding some pretty decent success.

Me?

My line was rigged without a sinker. So I was going for fish closer to the surface.

It kind of sucked to watch everyone catch all these little fish, while I was catching nothing.

(Especially because we had a $25 bet on the line for who could catch the biggest fish.)

But then...

All of a sudden...

I saw this fish swimming a few feet under the surface. Thing was like 3.5 feet long. It was YUGE!

So, I employed the same strategy that I do with copywriting clients.

I went for the low hanging fruit. I didn't drop my hook where everyone else did. I zigged, when they zagged.

That's because I knew this ONE fish was bigger than all the fish they had caught at the point, combined.

(Get the copywriting client connection here, yet?)

I dropped my bait right in front of the fish, and pulled this thing right out of the water...

That there's called a Remora. Technically, they're a "garbage fish" you can't eat. They're suckers. They suck onto whales and sharks and clean them off as they swim. Damn freeloaders.

I had to throw it back, which was fine.

But look how easy it was to catch the biggest fish of the day (at that time).

(BTW, this is NOT the "big catch" I alluded to in the subject line, I'll show you that monster in a second.)

I saw a big fish. I dropped my line a foot in front of it's face. And I pulled it in.

This is NOT what a lot of copywriters do. They try to drop their hooks where a million other people are fishing. They all have the same bait, and only the "little fish" in their market bite. They reel in small jobs and have to work hard to get em.

I like to find the bigger fish, drop the perfect bait right in front of em, and only have to reel a few feet of line in to bring em on board.

Which would you rather have, btw? You want small-time clients? Or you want the whales? Which do you think will bring you closer to your goals?

Now... while we were fishing, our captain set up a BIG hook with a piece of live bait.

And this thing was sitting in the water for hours while we went about our business.

Nothing seemed to be happening with it. So we almost kind of forgot about it.

My buddies were catching small fish.

I was catching medium sized fish.

And all of a sudden...

The line on the big reel started RUNNIN'.

HOT DIGGITY DAMN!

We got something big.

So all of a sudden, the captain of the ship hands the reel to me. And this thing is running fast, man.

I started reeling and it almost pulls me in.

Thank god the first mate ran in and grabbed the pole, I woulda been swimmin with whatever the heck was on the end of that line.

I started reeling this monster in - whatever it was. And it was one of the toughest fights of my life. Every turn of the reel was a GRIND. My arms were fatiguing quicker than any drop set I've ever done at the gym.

And as we were all watching to see this sea monster appear as it got closer and closer to the surface... ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.

The captain of the boat grabbed the gaf (that long pole with a hook on the end), and as he did that... the other gaf that was hanging came loose. It fell thru the air and landed right in the captain's hand.

Blood splattered EVERYWHERE.

It was F'in CHAOS.

Guy was gushing blood. He ripped the hook from his hand. The first mate ran to get him a bandage and I was left holding the pole.

My buddies ran over and helped me into "the fighting char" while all this was happening. And now that I had some leverage I started reeling this MOFO in.

Nice and slow.

Steady now.

Reeling it in.

Not too fast, don't want to snap the line.

Eventually, I got it to the surface. We thought it might be a big grouper.

But then we saw what it was:
A fricken 200lb nurse shark!

Holy smokes!

It was a damn sea monster!

Now, we didn't pull it in the boat. We cut the line, because you're not allowed to catch sharks. And I was kind of glad we didn't pull this monster aboard.

But it was pretty cool to see the result of just putting a piece of bait out there, forgetting about it, and when the time is right, reeling in a big monster.

That's one of the strategies I teach the copywriters I work with.

You're going to have strategies that catch small fish. You're going to have strategies that catch medium fish. And you're going to have some strategies that take a bit more time to work... but those ones will catch the biggest fish of all.

This is why I do content.

I know it's not going to bring me a big client RIGHT NOW.

It might not bring me a big client next week, or next month.

But if I leave these "hooks" in the water long enough.... eventually something BIG will happen.

That's how you get the big gigs.

One of my retainers took five months to come thru.

Five months.

Almost half a year of going back and forth, negotiating... planning... doing the dance.

That's how it happens sometimes in this game, bruh.

Alright, this email is long enough. And I know you wanna get out and celebrate AMERICA.

But think about all the client getting lessons right here in this email.

Don't follow the herd, forge your own path.... and you could wind up with something exciting.

Happy July 4th.

You'll be hearing from me again real soon.

FORMULA #6: HISTORICAL STORY

You can also use a popular or under-the-radar story from history to ILLUSTRATE your point and DEMONSTRATE why subscribers should buy.

Here’s how you could lay this out in an email:

1 Tell a historical story…
2. Talk about what is crazy, funny, or relevant about this.
3 State the point/moral/lesson of this story.
4 Link that to the product.
5 CTA

Here is an example:

Subject line: Nutrition secrets of a 152-year-old man

Almost four hundred years ago, doctors in England performed an autopsy on the oldest man to ever live. And what they found during this autopsy could reveal the secret to living the longest and healthiest life possible.

Here’s the story:

A man named Thomas Parr was born in in the year 1483 in England. As he got older, “Old Tom Parr” became somewhat of a legend.

(There’s even a statue of him at Westminster Abbey in England.)

During his long and fruitful life, he got married twice. First in his 80’s and again at age 122.

When he died in the year 1635 (at the ripe old age of 152), doctors couldn’t wait to figure out just how this man was able to live so long. A physician named William Harvey performed his autopsy.

(William Harvey was also the first doctor to discover how blood circulates in our bodies.)

During his autopsy he made a shocking discovery. He found that Old Tom Parr’s organs were in a perfect state. He reasoned that Tom Parr was perfectly healthy… and had just died because of old age.

Now keep in mind, this was long before the invention of “modern medicine.” They didn’t have prescription drugs we have today that are supposed to “save” you.

All they had… was food.

The people who lived during these times had the same tools you have available today. And their diets consisted only of “regular food.” They lived off the food they can grow in the ground and from the animals they raised.

Here’s the important lesson you can take from this:

Most sicknesses and illnesses come as a result of problems with the way your internal organs are functioning. Either you’re lacking key nutrients… or your organs have been damaged from overuse... or they’ve been exposed to harmful toxins and chemicals that are wreaking havoc on your insides.

Either way, making sure your organs are functioning properly, the way God intended them to, is something you need to focus on if you want your body to run the way it should.

That’s why we talk so much about this topic in our [PRODUCT NAME].

We go in depth on the best foods to eat that can help your internal organs run like well oiled machines.

Specifically, we teach you about the 20+ best foods you can add to your diet to help your liver, kidneys, intestines, pancreas, eyes, heart and lungs to function better.

You might not live to be 152 years old like Old Tom Parr… but if you take care of your body… your body will take care of you for decades to come.

You’ll have more energy... your skin will be more vibrant… you’ll start shedding pounds of fat, and you’ll feel like you’re ten years younger… just by following the simple to follow system we outline in [PRODUCT NAME].

One naked truth about knowledge is that it's infinite, and the more of it you have, the easier things would be for you in life.

I understand how frustrating it could seem when you have half-baked knowledge - knowing fully well you can't use it to reach your full potential and get your desired results.

Sometimes you'll scroll through your job feed on upwork, looking at jobs that could fetch you a fortune.

You check the details of the post and find out you don't have what it takes to execute i...

so you wouldn't have any choice but to click the back button to continue to sort for jobs you can handle.

Even if you're lucky to get some gigs and you do your best on it, you deliver the job and you have started spending the money within your mind.

Nice concept.

But only use this kind of concept if the person you are writing about is a celebrity (or a popular figure) to the group of people you are writing to.

For example:

"What Omotola doesn't tell you about her beauty secrets..." to a list of skincare enthusiasts.

Also, a lot of your lead-in copy is unnecessary and while bore a lot of readers out.

Always try to drop them into the middle of the action. That's how most action movies start, right? Immediately, your interest is piqued and you want to continue watching to see how that ends.

You should do the same with your emails.

Your first 4 paragraphs or so are not necessary.

EMAIL FORMULA #5: NEWS STORY.

This one is very straight forward.

Take a story that’s happening in current events and RELATE it to the product you’re selling.

Here’s a powerful way to use this formula:

1 “I saw this thing happen or in the news the other day”
2 Describe what happened.
3 Talk about why this is important or relevant or funny etc.
4 State the POINT of the story.
5 Segue to the client’s product.
6 CTA

For example here is one I did for a client in 2017:

or

How to 10X your affiliate commissions with this Trump controversy

Ever since he won the US elections, Donald Trump has had his face plastered all over the front pages of major news publications…

…like a Hollywood diva.

For better or worse, his ‘marriage’ with the media is an entertaining one.

Not one to shy away from controversy (and responsibility?), Mr. Donald recently dumped the “you are obsolete” DIG on NATO.

And as expected, that has whipped up a “storm” all over the place.

If we are to believe what the media says, our man is fast losing supporters daily.

How does that affect you?

Hold On! I am coming to that…

You see, if you keep on throwing your hard-earned cashola on obsolete affiliate marketing methods…

You will continue losing money faster than a drunk gambling addict in Las Vegas!

What to do instead?

Simple! Invest in a new age affiliate method that helps to 10x your commissions without much work.

The new age method of grabbing BIG affiliate checks is by creating high-quality video affiliate sites. If you are thinking “damn! I know nothing about building video sites”…

Hi Venzal1, I am so sorry about the ban. And I'd like to say a big thank you for your selflessness. You are definitely going places and the world will surely hear your name.

I just want to ask these questions,
- Can we send out proposal(s) same day we register or there's a required number of days before a newbie can send out proposal.

- While I was going through the comments on the thread, someone mentioned studying a different course and choosing a different niche. I am a bit confused. Does the course we studied have anything to do with our specific chosen niches? Can I skip the course I studied part in my profile?

Thank you once again.
Yeah... you can send out proposals from the very first minute you register. There's no ruling against that.

The course you studied in school has nothing to do with whether a client will hire you or not. Your samples, your reviews, your profile overview, your proposal, these are way more important things that influence their hiring decision.

I read Geography in school. It's legibly shown on my profile. On that ground I have no business being a copywriter, but here I am.

Email FORMULA #4: The Cautionary Tale

One of the most powerful ways to convince people is to tell them WHAT NOT TO DO.

…more importantly, WHY it would be a bad idea to do it.

So writing an email that dishes out a precautionary story is also a powerful way to provoke action.

The story could be a personal story or someone else’s story.

FOR THIS FORMULA HERE’S HOW YOU FLESH OUT THE EMAIL:

1. Introduce the situation.
2. Talk about the problem.
3. Explain how what you/your client/the person in question did that was wrong.
4. Explain what they should have done instead.
5. Explain how your product or service allows them to do that.
6. CTA

Let’s look at an example…

Subject line: Who’s fault is this?

Resend: I got screwed by a client...

My heart dropped the moment I read the email.

It was only a few lines long.

But as soon as I saw it, I knew I was screwed.

The gist of it was this:

We're ceasing operations.

That was the email I got from one of my retainer clients two days ago, 7:30 at night. Just as I was getting ready to relax with my wife and watch some tv.

No warning. No 'hints.' No nothing.

The business was shutting down. And there wasn't much either of us could do about it.

Now... this thing happens all the time, right? One thing I teach in my Freelance Mindset Masterclass course is that EVERY client relationship will eventually come to an end. Every single one.

The thing was...

I still had a month and a half of invoices that were outstanding.

Which means now I'm going to be out around $5,000-$7,000 in project fees from that client alone. That's not counting the MULTIPLE jobs I've turned away over the past few months as I was working for this client... AND the multiple jobs I turned away for the five months prior as I was working on putting this deal together.

All together I'm looking at anywhere from $25,000-$30,000 of lost income when it's all said and done.

So...

I got screwed by my client. And do you know who is to blame?

MYSELF.

No one but myself.

This problem was not only COMPLETELY avoidable... it was 100% my fault.

The thing is... when you're a business owner (and when you're a freelancer, whether you like it or not, you're a business owner)...

EVERYTHING that happens to you is your fault.

Client's business closes down and now your income took a hit?

Your fault.

You didn't get paid by your client but still did the work?

Your fault.

Didn't negotiate protections into your contract?

Your fault.

I broke most of my own cardinal rules of freelancing.

You see, when this deal came together... my point man at the company was a guy I worked with before. For the sake of getting started, I started working without putting a retainer in place. My plan was to just bill at the end of the month... and everything would work just peachy!

I've used contracts for every single one of my clients, except this one.

I wanted to move fast.

And I abandoned my processes and systems that have served me in the past because I was just excited to get started.

I should have had a contract. I should have gotten my money up front like I normally do. And I should have had some protections in place.

Yes, it's true. Even the pro's make mistake from time to time.

The reason I'm telling you this is to illustrate that as a freelancer, you need to find ways to protect yourself. You need contracts. You need to negotiate fair terms. You need to have a system and contingencies for dealing with these issues.

This is what TRUE pros do.

They don't just focus on their copy.

They focus on building a moat of security around themselves so that they can minimize the risk of working with each and every client.

Not following the systems I had in place for previous clients cost me almost $30k in this situation.

Now, you don't have to worry about me. I'm going to be just fine. I have multiple other clients and more lined up waiting. My wife and I aren't going to starve. This isn't it a pity party here. I'm bringing this story up so I can ask you this question...

Have you ever made a mistake with a client that ended up costing you a lot of lost income, lost time or lost opportunities?

Listen...

Every freelancer gets screwed at some point. Everyone. Even the best.

But the difference between the PRO's who can bounce back from these setbacks and learn how to use this adversity to take their business to the next level are the ones who work to mitigate risk through systems and processes.

An amateur will let these issues continue to arise in their business. A pro will nip it in the bud and uplevel their freelancing business until these kinds of unfortunate circumstances stop happening.

Which one are you?

If you are a pro (or if you want to turn pro), then listen up...

Abbey Woodcock is one of my friends and colleagues. On top that, her and her partner KC have created an incredible system for not only helping you "turn pro" as a freelance copywriter... but also take your copywriting business to the next level.

Read all about The Business Of Copy here

I joined this community the moment I heard about it because I knew that I didn't want to be one of these sloppy freelancers who looks like a joke to my clients. I wanted my clients to view me as a professional. I wanted to keep each client I had for a very long time (and I have, I've been with one of my clients for 27 months. Another client I've been with for over 3 years. And a third client I've been working with now for 10 months already).

These kinds of deals don't just fall into your lap.

They are created and negotiated.

They are kept by presenting yourself as a pro and by learning what you need to do to maintain good relationships.

They are kept by you using contracts and automation and other systems that can SAVE you time working on that mundane stuff... and allow you to operate in your zone of genius.

If this all sounds good to you, then make sure you join The Business Of Copy today.

**Please Note**

You cannot join The Business Of Copy anytime you want. It is currently closed.

Because I've worked with Abbey before, she's allowed me to provide you with a special link to join today.

Seriously, this isn't false scarcity. Here's what happens if you try going to her site right now, without my link:
The only way you can get in before she re-opens membership (which only happens a few times per year) is through my link in this email.

And, if you DO want to join I'm going to give you some pretty sweet bonuses.

First, if you join today, I'm going to give you a special training called...

The One-Page Site That Helped Me Double My Fees

This training is all about how creating one tiny little page (that anyone can create for free) which automatically positions you as a pro in your clients eyes... helps you TAKE BACK the power in any client negotiation... and automatically filters out low quality clients so you don't have to waste your time on the phone with them... while also inspiring confidence in your ideal clients and making you look like the best option for them.

Once I started sending new clients to this page, I not only started closing more deals... I also started closing bigger deals. The first time I tested this out, the guy on the other end of the line told me "Wow, I've never worked with a copywriter at your level." It was like instant positioning. I've never looked back since then.

But that's not all...

If you join today and decide to pay IN FULL, I'm also going to give you...

The Freelance Mindset Masterclass

This six-module training course is a course I created to document all of the moves I've made in my career to take myself from a broke copywriter who couldn't get a client... to a full-time six-figure copywriter.

It's required viewing for all of my coaching students before we begin. And it's designed to take you from 0-90% proficiency in "being a successful freelance copywriter" in a matter of days.

The six modules are:

Module #1: Creating Your Idea Freelancing Lifestyle

Module #2: The 12 Unalienable Rules Of Successful Freelance Copywriting

Module #3: How To Position Yourself So You Stand Out And Above Every Other Freelance Copywriter Out There

Module #4: Pricing To Win: How to find the perfect price for every freelancing gig that comes your way... and how to systematically and strategically raise your prices without scaring off clients or having to do more work.

Module #5: Client Attraction Strategies: How to get clients to come to YOU, instead of having to chase them down and beg them for work.

Module #6: The Perfect Closing Script For Freelance Copy Client Calls: Just ask the 10 questions in this script, say your price, and shut up... and big deals practically close themselves.

I've only sold this one time, and the price was $597. I'm in the process of reshooting it, and when I do, it will probably be even more expensive.

If you join The Business Of Copy today AND pay in full, you're not only going to get my "One-Page Site That Helped Me Double My Fees" training, I'm also going to throw in my Freelance Mindset Masterclass Training.

Between these two bonuses, and the dozens and dozens of incredible trainings inside, you'll be well on your way to winning more clients, at higher fees... while saving time with automation and systems... and leveling up every area of your game.

Good afternoon all.

It's Venzal in female form grin

I tried posting email formula #3 TWICE yesterday with both my accounts and got slapped with a ban. I would have reached out to the mods, but between them and the busy body bot I don't know which/who is more ____________ (I don't want to insult anyone).

Anyways, I will be posting from my lil sister's account until I get let out of NL jail next week. Hopefully, they don't toss this one into jail too.

Here is the email formula #3 that got the BOT mad:

"I love my husband so much, I was not intended to kill him. It was so painful to me that he got my best friend pregnant and he could not tell me, I knew about it from outsiders. I find it hard not to believe her. She wanted to just shrink junior a little. Unfortunately, Oga died. Ladies, though. We are our own worst enemies. Imagine gleefully sleeping with the randy husband of your 'best friend!'
