Edo governor, Adams Oshiomhole, said the state could feed Nigeria with rice if waiver on the commodity was removed.He stated this at the backdrop of decision of the National Economic Council to promote local production of food crops in states with comparative advantage on them.

The governor, who spoke with State House correspondents on Friday in Abuja, decried the waiver granted rice importers by the previous administration, saying that it led to dumping of various goods in the country.

He said that the incentive also drove local producers of food items, including rice, out of business.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has suspended one-time deputy governor and former state Vice Chairman (Edo South) of the party, Chief Lucky Imasuen, and two other members for anti-party activities.

The two other members are a former Deputy Chairman, Hon Christopher Adesotu and a former Organising Secretary, Mr Richard Ehimagbi.

The suspension came just as Imasuen and Adesotu were among more than 3,000 PDP members who defected to the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) in the state, yesterday.

The suspended members have been directed to appear before a disciplinary committee of the PDP tomorrow (Monday) in accordance with the party constitution.

A statement signed by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, said the decision was “in the spirit of rebirth and reorganization of the PDP and in line with the solemn pledge to bequeath a responsible and responsive government to Edo people in 2016.”

The party also commended the Edo State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal for reaffirming the victory of Senators Matthew Uroghide (Edo South Senatorial District) and Clifford Ordia (Edo Central Senatorial District) in the March 28 senatorial election.

Comedienne Helen Paul, has opened up on how she met and fell inlove with her hubby of 5 years.

The mother of three shared her interesting story with Sunday SUN.

A staff of Diamond Bank Obioha Okengwu was yesterday arraigned before Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court, Lagos over a nine count charge of fraud.

He is accused of allegedly defrauding the bank of N111.2 million.

According to prosecuting counsel, Obioha, a graduate of Abia State University, committed the offence between April and August 2014 while working at the e-Business unit of the bank, handling daily settlement entries of transactions done on Point of Sales (POS) and Automated Teller Machine.

Obioha unlawfully credited huge sums of money into his family’s account instead of the bank’s accounts.

“At different times, N37million and N41. 4 million was lodged into two accounts owned by one Uchenna Okengwu.

The accused also credited the sum of N10 million into the account of one Rosamund Okengwu and N9.5 million paid into one Chukwuemeka Okengwu’s account.” the prose......
