Gbawe: Indeed. It is just that most Nigerians are too emotional, bigoted, clannish, sectionally and religiously biased to note this. Nairaland, more than anything of recent, is what has opened my eyes to understanding that there are simply too many ignorant and emptily feudalistic Nigerians running around than is healthy or good for Nigeria.

Gather five economic experts to critique Nigeria's problems and offer solutions. Their submissions will be the same unresolved set of issues as has being stated in the past 4 decades and it will be obvious GEJ is doing exactly the opposite of what is required.

We all know Nigeria must refine it's crude optimally. Fuel subsidy could stay while serious effort is made to ensure optimal refining of crude is achieved ASAP. Of all the options, GEJ chose the one that will clearly only lead to failure. GEJ deliberately and corruptly capitulates to his AGIP friends like Otedola by conceding our refineries to probably the most corrupt and most inefficient Government parastatal in the world - the NNPC - for 2 years !!!! He then wants Nigerians to bear the brunt of his cowardice, obvious complicity and corrupt indebtedness to those ruining the Nation. Why do GEJ fans then become emotional when intelligent men , who understand totally that fundamental problems must gain uncompromising solutions, call him a failure?

How about the fact that virtually every economic expert in the world, including Okonjo Iweala when she was out of Government, has loudly declared that Nigeria's unacceptably profligate system of Governance is crippling our Nation? China, the most populous Nation in the world, spend nowhere near Nigeria's 70% recurrent expenditure figure !!!! It is a very fundamentally serious problem the right President would make the cornerstone of any attempt to reform Nigeria. Instead GEJ comes in and announces , to satisfy his many corrupt and surplus-to-requirement buddies, "leaner government not possible".

Our insincere federal structure nko? Any attempt to go there when big developmental profit can be reaped by a President who gets it right regarding this gigantic problem that leaves us 'swimming against the tide'? Big NO !!!

State Police, for our level of insecurity, only deserves a "Nigeria not ripe" dismissal from a President who is a responsive solutions provider?

How about the fight against Institutional and systemic corruption that is ruining every corner of Nigeria?

I could go on all day to show how GEJ has failed to address many, many fundamental issues but that is overkill for Nairaland where many are cretins who can't think and just prefer to come here to support other blindly and abuse those they hate blindly also.

Those foolishly talking of effectively one sector, i.e power, for GEJ's glaring failure in very many other areas are simply naive. They do not know how effective Nations are run. They do not understand that when leaders run away from fundamental solutions, failure everywhere is the eventual outcome. Failure everywhere , especially in fundamental areas, will eventually overwhelm pockets of success- which no Nigeria Government has being without.

There is no Government that does not have "good things" sycophants can point to. Yet Nigeria remains a parody of what a decent Nation should be. It will be so for a long time if we don't understand the fundamental issue to note that they are being ignored by a weak, corrupt and window-dressing President who, for savvy observers, is nothing but another 'puppet' opportunist and enabler of AGIPs,Oligarchs and "business as Usual" like many before him.
Intelligently written. Thumbs up to you.

freshcvv: Cry me a river, were you asleep prior to election time? remind me again, what prompted your voting for him?

Any merit-able reason for voting for him? any past achievements by him to have deserved a 4 years vote of confidence?

Simply put it, you were one of those empty headed Nigerians who love to play to the gallery while sheepishly running after the crowd no matter the direction they are facing be it the swamp or the deadly fire.
Very very very well spoken! Chei!!
Politics › Re: "The President And His Social Media Friends” Olusegun Adeniyi by Michky: 9:03am On Sep 07, 2012
Tisa: Lovely article but I doubt if GEJ will change, he (Gej) strikes me as someone that doesn't know what he is a president for, what he ought to do or even give a damn about the many many pains of the people he leads.

I voted for him whole heartedly even as people around me called me names in Lagos here for doing so and I desperately hope he will give me the reason to look them in the eye and count the many goods gej has done in 1yr however the shame I feel now as a voter that voted for him is second to none.

Is it so hard for him to know that his policies are pushing many more into poverty? Is it so difficult for him to know that nigerians don't always like accepting coins? His approval of the sanusi mad currency policy makes me see him as a monster. What happened to the last set of paper notes that were changed to coins? Can anyone tell me when last they held a N1coin? As at the time N1 n 50k were notes you could @ least buy tomtom with them, how much is tomtom today?

Gej has lost the confidence nigerians freely gave him, second only to the great Abiola. How gej gets to be this way is really beyond my reasoning cos it doesn't really add up. He owe nobody his electoral victory order than GOD and the nigerians that queued in the hot sun to cast their votes for him willingly, so which cabal or godfather is he trying to please?

Its all really sad. All my life I ve never seen a whole family man n his wife going to houses on the street they reside to ask for food for their kids cos they haven't eaten in 2days, both husband and wife were bankers sacked by Sanusi's witch hunt.

My prayer now is that GOD shd sustain Nigerians till gej tenure ends in 2015.

I hope those computer or internet attack dogs he employs will actually be truthful to themselves and their GOD and not be attacking people trying to tell the president the truth.

Mr. President, Nigerians are really hurting, give human face to ur policies.

GOD reigns.
Very well said!

Finaly, look closely at the life of a lion. Its mostimes good to its fellow lions but bad to the gazette (because the lion has to feed!) or bad to its fellow male counterparts whenever territorial claim becomes its priority. Am i making sense? Life is neither particular about being good nor being bad. Its about survival. You can do good to survive like pope, or do bad to survive like thieves and profesional politicians. Point is: JUST SURVIVE!! N.B. Let it be known in all the continents of the world that am a strong advocate against those who hamper the lives or existence of other humans in their quest for survival (either through stealing public funds or through robbery) They should all spend their lives behind bars. And in the absense of enthusiasm to type further, I hereby rest my case.

Fact is, if you want to survive long enough on earth, there are certain situations where you have to be good and certain situations where you have to be bad. Sadly, our pastors sell a 1 size fits all attitude (being good) which doesnt pay off most of the time because we're surounded by wickedness. My 2cents.

I'll share a bit of what i know right now. During the days of the greek nation, the anthenians gave the melians a choice: submit peacefully to their rule and pay them tribute or get destroyed. The melians completely outmatched by the anthenian army pointd out that the anthenians were not dealing with them justly. The melians hadnt done anything to hurt the anthens or help sparta; they just wanted to keep to themselves. The anthenians retorted: "Get real. There is no right or wrong, only weak and strong. We're stronger than you are, so we can do anything we like. That's how things have worked and always will work". So what's the lesson from this ancient story? There are many lessons in it. But one that i'll like to pick out is: survival is what's most important to human existence before love and as this story clearly points out, If the melians had money, they could have survived unavoidable predators like the anthenians and if love rules the world, the anthenians wouldnt have needed to be that irrational. SURVIVAL IS KING. MONEY IS KING!

Lets disect your post one after the other shall we? Q 1: Why do the rich still seek happiness. A: Happiness is not the same as love (they are two very distinct concepts. check your dictionary). Besides, you could have the most friends in the world and still not be happy. Y? Very bad or terminal health could be a good reason. Q 2: Why is suicide legalized in Australia and suicide rate high in Sweden? A: Not everyone in Australia is rich hence your question is invalid for the arguement. Plus suicide is legalized in Australia because that's their interpretation of freewill, just like some states in the United states permits their citizens to marry same sex or own guns. get it? Why is suicide high in more civilized environment? Well honestly, the answer is because they are simply more civilized. What do i mean? You see, civilization comes from education. Education comes with enlightenment. Enlightenment comes with freedom. Suicide is their expression of freedom from a world that doesn't seem to be heading anywhere imho. Q 3: Why do the rich still feel empty inside despite their accomplishments? A: There is no general answer to this question but i will try to provide a sample. Fact is, not being loved is not the only reason that a person could feel empty inside. Other reasons could be: lack of a sense of purpose or drive, boredom, etc. Besides, you asked "why do the rich still feel empty inside". Fact is, not all rich do feel that inside emptiness as you put it, hence, your arguement is a fallacy. In conclusion, what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul. This statement, amongst others likewise, is the rich's way of keeping the society in order. Truth is, if everyone realises that what's most important to human survival is not religion, love, but money; there will certainly be anarchy i tell you. Sadly, they've also realised that its just mathematically, empirically, impossible that everyone would have equal amount of wealth at the same time (for instance, if Nigeria's budget is 100 trillion naira, and every nigerian wants to be a millioniare, that money wouldn't still be enough. Do the maths and see for yourself). Another fact is, no matter how long my post will be, if your cup is already full, there's nothing any jupiter will say that will change that. Stick with what you choose to believe and i'll gladly stick to mine. One thing is definately sure, time will always be a fair judge.

@ Richarts and co. Here's my response to you both. You are absolutely entitled to your opinions. No matter what i do or say, if you never intend to reason with me, my point will continue to remain meaningless to your minds. That aside though. For the sake of good arguement, i will give reply to your some of your statements. Now, when i said financial success is King, i didn't make a mistake. In order to survive this capitalist world that we all reside in, you need money and love. But since you put us on the spot by asking us to select one, then, what you need first is money!. Lets do a little exercise, shall we? Please walk to the closest provision store close to where you stay and tell them to give you everything in their store for free because you practice buddaism or zen or because you love them deeply and see if you won't leave there embarrased. What's my point? Survival is why you or i are still here on nairaland today. Am assuming that you've heard the phrase "survival of the fittest" right? Lets look at primitive examples of survival shall we?. In order for a lion to survive, it needs its claws, teeth, strenght etc, to either feed on preys or protect itself from predators. Now, in the case of humans, we don't use claws, or the rest of that to get protected from predators. Instead, money serves the purpose, as we use it to buy protection from robbers and buy food for good health: all in the name of survival. Fact remains that whether you like it or not, no amount of meditation or loving emotion you show to others will put food on your table or protect you from armed robbers or general danger. I will continue in the post below.

First, i was blown away by OP's post and that sealed it for me. We regarding my response to the topic is this: Even if some people like eh, let them combine the seven books of Moses with all the ancient books of this world (samurai, buddah et al), the fact would still remain that the world within which we have found ourselves today is a capitalist one where financial success is the koko, the magnet, the King! IMHO,Success is for the rich while love is for the poor (those that have attempted success but have been subjected to settle for less). My 2 cents.

@OP. Forget all the talk about patriachy or the yamama that kobojunkie is throwing around. The simple fact here is: i believe it has to do with Wealth! owo, kudi, ego. get me? I don't know whether the reasons have changed o, but the women that am aware of that retained their fathers' names did it due to the wealth attached to their last name before getting married. Look at Falilat OGUNKOYA for instance: she was famous already before getting married. Now, how would you know she's still the one being talked about if she had completely yanked it off from her identity. By the time all super women get married, we'd be spending too many hours trying to catch up with their new identities. That aside, i agree that women of substance can keep their surname for obvious reasons but what about the remaining chickens squelling around the place here eh? Which reason do they have for wanting to retain their father's names? Na wa for this country o. It baffles me when people just reason like neathandals sometimes. God help us o. HOWEVER, i do not agree with the idea of owning a woman. Please that's an ancient way of thinking that you should outgrow. Nuf said!
