The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, spoke of his pride at legalizing same sex marriage, just a year after explicitly giving a personal guarantee to do it by 2015 to a reception for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans-sexual community at 10 Downing Street.

Mr Cameron told guests at the same reception one year on that Britain was now “the best place to be gay, lesbian or transgender anywhere in Europe”.
He added, “that is a great achievement. That’s not my measure; that is an internationally recognised measure. But there’s still a lot more work to be done.”
Thanking the ministers and civil servants who helped to pass the legislation into law despite objections from the Tory Right, he said, “It’s been a real pleasure to work with you and to deliver this landmark social change for our country, which to me still comes back to the simple word of commitment.”
He added that he wanted to “export” same sex marriage around the world so other countries could follow suit.

Reporters have been camped outside St. Mary's Hospital in London for weeks, and now hundreds of fans have joined the journalists outside the Lindo Wing, where the Duchess of Cambridge will give birth to the third in line to the British throne. Middleton and Prince William, both 31, arrived quietly through the Mary Stanford entrance around 6 a.m. on Monday, July 22.
(The Lindo Wing is where the late Princess Diana gave birth to Prince William in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1984.)

A reckless police driver behind the wheels of a van attached to the Festac police station has been accused of hitting a woman and her baby, causing brain damage in the nursing mother.
Several sources related to the woman reported that the accident happened on June 23, 2013 as the police driver sped dangerously against the flow of traffic on a one-way lane along the busy Oshodi-Apapa Road, hitting down the unsuspecting woman and her baby.

An eyewitness said the police corporal seemed to act with drunken disregard for other road users. “As he was driving, he was waving his hand and shouting at drivers who were driving the right way to clear out of the road,” the witness said. “He kept driving that way until he eventually knocked down the woman coming out of the bus with her baby.” Family sources said the badly injured woman and her baby were rushed to the emergency ward at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). Doctors reportedly discovered that she had sustained a pelvic fracture, facial bruises, and brain injury. The baby, Ammarah Anjolaiya, also suffered deep facial cuts and a broken jaw.

The relatives of a 23-year-old woman from northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have claimed that the woman died after being electrocuted while using her iPhone.

The older sister of victim Ma Ailun said Saturday on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, that Ma was electrocuted while trying to answer a call on her iPhone while the device was charging.
Ma Ailun bought the iPhone in December at an official Apple store and was using the original charger to recharge the phone when the incident occurred, her sister said.

Ma, who was planning her wedding on August 8, fell to the floor when making a call with her iPhone 5, which was being recharged at the time, Ma’s sister said on her microblog account.
“I want to warn everyone else not to make phone calls when your mobile phone is recharging,” she tweeted.

The sister’s tweet was reposted more than 3,000 times. And the microblogging site was flooded with posts urging fellow users not to make calls while charging their phones.

A candle light procession was held for Late Adelowaton oluwafunmilayo, (one of the unfortunate victims of the fatal car accident that occurred on Airport road Ikeja on sunday, the 30th Of June, 2013) in Unilag premises today monday 8th July. The procession was organized by the student society of her department(Quantity surveying) and majority of the students present for the procession where of her faculty (Environmental Sciences).
The students walked from her faculty, down to Unilag's senate building, then to her hostel off campus were she left from that night (Emerald) and then back to the faculty. Prayers were said for her at the various points.

May her soul rest in Peace!

The Faculty Of Environmental Sciences, Unilag had an exquisite dinner/awards night on Thursday 4th July 2013. It was an evening of glitz and glamour. Unfortunately the touch of Gold dress code was avoided (Trust Nigerians na..lol). From the Red-Carpet to the event, everything was so 'on-point' . The Governor of Rivers State,Rotimi Amaechi just approved the sum of 100.000.00USD,the total money expected to get Music Producer OJB the required medical treatment.

The initiative was muted by Jazzman Olofin, and MetroNews Online publisher Femi Davies,contact was made to the Gov via the Political Editor of Thisday,Wale Olaleye.

The Gov promptly approved the total expected sum which will be handed over to OJB by Friday July 5,2013.

When you take out $55, 000, you are left with $45, 000. What about the running cost of the procedure? You don't go to India only to come back and start asking for help again. At least, I need some money to maintain myself for the next one year. So when you factor in all these costs, add air tickets and lodging, you will appreciate what we are talking about".

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday renewed its hostility with the Federal Government as it declared an indefinite strike action. The resolution followed the body’s National Executive Committee meeting held at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State on Sunday and dragged till the early hours of Monday.

According to reports, 51 of the 53 branches of ASUU unanimously agreed to embark on the strike.
The strike with the government, The Nation learned, followed the federal government‘s failure to honour the Academic Earned Allowance (AEA) which formed a component of the 2009 Agreement government signed with the union.

Declaring the strike, ASUU chairman University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka, who addressed reporters at the university premises described the strike as a “painful yet inevitable decision.” He added that ASUU is tired of government’s dilly dallying, and cannot allowed itself to be insulted any further.

Throwing more light on the AEA, Ogbinaka said it includes allowances paid as part of excess work load responsibility allowance, and allowance for supervision of Post Graduate Programmes for lecturers, head of department (HoDs), Deans and exam officers, among others.

He added that the highest AEA is not more than N12, 500 per month, wondering why it has remained difficult for government to live up to its promises.

Five people, identified as Unilag Students were involved in an accident on airport road Ikeja, three have been confirmed dead. They all left from their off-campus hostel (Emerald to be precise) earlier yesterday, for the birthday of the mother of one of the girls'(Iyabo) boyfriend . It all went well for them from the beginning, as the 'boyfriend' engaged Iyabo, who came along with her friends

On their way back, they ran into a trailer along airport road. The victims have been identified as follows: -Adelowotan Oluwafunmilayo Wendy, A 200L Student Of Quantity Surveying, same with Eniola, 400L Student of Mass Communication and Kehinde (the twin brother to Iyabo's boyfriend), who drove the girls back are reported dead. Others are said to be in Coma, hospitalized at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba; Temi, Kanyisola and Iyabo.

Funmilayo, was on a First Class CGPA of 4.71, she was fondly called 'Miss Green' by students and lecturers in her faculty.
