That's what am saying, the lagoons won't work, the fish needs salty water so you have to go through beach. The last time I checked, all the beach in Nigeria are privately owned
When were akwa ibom or ondo or ogun or ph or Bayelsa beaches privatised Lagos is not the only beachy coastline Mr know it all
Also if the beach permission is given, you need to site your water tank far off shore, the last time I checked you need a permit from the Nigerian Navy to go that far offshore, you need to rent/lease the sea, your own transportation vessel for food, medicine etc. All this can be done but it is either you pay for it or press button the naija style.
The same Nigerian Navy that can not stop sea pirates abi The ocean is a very large place my friend You can start now and pay later or just move around
Now oil and plastic, shows you don't buy Nigeria to grow Nigeria if you actually buy local fish caught in the sea or reared in the lagoon (makoko people) you will know what I am talking about.
and you my friend are pretending like you're not a Nigerian Where ppl dug up buried bird flu chicken Is it oil and plastic that will starve them Abeg talk something serious
Now you talk about local consumers, you very funny last time I checked cat fish is more nutritious and has better value than the mackerel in fact you can buy 2 mackerel with the price of one cat fish.
My point exactly Why buy cater when mackerel is cheaper Abi you think say everyone get moni like you
Also you said to hell with international market, shows you don't know the power of agribusiness instead of agriculture. If I was rearing mackerel and it is sold at 2dollar 50cent to international market and I have to sell at 300naira at local market, do you think I won't prefer the dollar? At 320 naira to a dollar my mackerel goes for 800naira,so if I could make more, why will I settle for less.
We cant feed ourselves yet you're worried about int'l market And if int'l market is willing to pay more then I don't see the problem You're only worried when int'l market can out produce you and crash price not when they pay more
Also on this point have you been patronize by a middleman in Nigeria, I guess not because the way they price your product like tomorrow will not come is appalling
time to sell directly to consumers If you have enough to start a giant project like thirty have enough to market direct to consumers. And if it's too hot for you, get the fork out the kitchen and allow serious ppl see road (figure of speech, not you personally) |
Agriculture › Re: Catfish Farmers Lets Talk About Catfish Smoking by mikolo80: 6:45am On Feb 24, 2017 |
Etranshub: @ smoking your own catfish means value adding to your harvest which gives you more than 100% profit on your investment if you are selling locally and more if you are considering exportation but just smoking your catfish is not enough for the export market as you have to make sure your fish is smoked and packaged in a very hygienic environment and also the level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)is less than 5mg/kg of the product. Else the product will not be allowed into places like US and EU where you have large populations of customers for the product. PAH can be prevented to the bearest minimum by using the right desight of smoking kiln and the right power source (sawdust and firewood is a no no) call 08167488947 or email olowaolugbenga@gmail.com for the design of smoking kiln with temperature gauge, automatic oil and moisture collector, racks on roller etc what smokes without smoke. Dried fish is not same as smoked fish |

It's Nigeria Anything goes Shoot everything goes How many canoe police get Police can be bribed Ocean is not inland waterways
the mackerel grows in salty ocean water not river or lagoon.
nurey: This would have been nice but remember he would need the Atlantic Ocean for it. With our stupid maritime law, the way things work in this country, he would have to settle a lot of pockets, do a lot of paper and leg work, in fact it would be better to just build a offshore farm tank which permit Who go hold am. Our brown water Navy? Or who. Besides if he has enough to do what I am seeing in those pictures then he has enough to do the needful. Or do you get land for fishpond or farming for free ? 9jakohai: Much of the power infrastructure had already been privatized long before Rocket scientist showed up, so it isn't his fault, his ministry is directly responsible only for transmission
For generation to improve, and by extension for us to get light 24/7, we need to get up to 80000mw...which means millions of billions of dollars. And we have to replace the transmission system too.
Hence Gej privatizing the whole thing. he can build industrial parks to take load off the grid while powering industry Can also finance solar wind or hydro on lease to individuals so they pay ''mortgage '' He can enforce distribution of meters to stop easy money of estimated bill which will force improvements in generation |

Agriculture › Re: Is There A Demand Market For Maize, Soybean, Cassava And Wheat? by mikolo80: 12:45pm On Feb 22, 2017 |
grammy: Is there truly a demand for agricultural products in large quantities like cassava, maize, wheat and soybean in Nigeria? I have seen many topics here talking about how profitable agriculture is in Nigeria and how agriculture is the next big thing for Nigeria.
But then the question is why are farmers complaining that there is no read market for their products, why are many farmers so broke they cannot even afford to buy tractor or farming equipment on installment.
The truth is that in any business you only make money after you make a sale, so if you are not selling then you are not making money and if you are not making money, it is only a matter of time before you will leave or go bankrupt with the business, which means either you like it or not, the business will die out.
The reason why oil was booming for a long time is simply, there is a ready market market for oil, even if you steal it; someone at the other end is willing to pay you for it and will not care where or how you got it. So for any business to be viable there must be a market for it. Is agriculture is truly the next big thing for Nigeria, then where is the market (point of sales) for the product. If there is truly a reasonable demand for our agricultural products, then you will improvement in that sector as more and more smart people come into the industry.
One case i have noticed is how people write blogs all over the internet about how cassava farming is very profitable and then you look at the cassava farmers and their story is the opposite, after all the stress of planting and using manual labor (which i believe is the wrong method) to plant their crops, at the end of the harvest they cannot sell at reasonable price because nobody wants their crops. They have enough to make fufu and garri and then what happens to the excess. That is why you cannot convince a farmer to expand his farm because he knows and thinks he is fine with the little he manages, so where is the room for commercial farming.
In 2012 i tried farming, i invested into cassava and maize farming, i got a manager to handle the farm for me starting with one hectare; we were planning of moving to 10 hectares and i was ready to start pumping in the money when i decided to pay the farm a visit. I came down to Nigeria and i meet with my farm manager and decide to see the farm.
When i got to the village where my farm was, what i saw was amazing (in a bad way). I could not believe people were still using manual labor to farm, so i asked if there was a way to get tractors and other farming equipment, to my surprise the answer was NO. There are tractors at the government house in Oyo state, but as usual it is for decoration.
To cut my long story short, i believe that if there exist truly a high demand for cash crops in Nigeria, then we would not need to advertise and beg people to go into farming, you will see how able people will venture into this industry, it is simple logic.
If anyone knows about companies that have demands for either maize, cassava, wheat or soybean kindly correct me and prove me wrong either in Nigeria or abroad.
NB: Maize is on the prohibition list of the Nigerian Custom, so if we cannot export corn, so what will i do with my 10 tons of corn after harvesting and i need money to replant for the next season. maize etc expensive Caused by high demand low supply Farmers are poor because they are low producing They can't afford tractor cos they are poor Tractor costs 5 to 6 mill Farmers only farm 1 acre of land Why don't you buy (even tokunbo) and rent out to them |
