dabossman: My take on the Congo game.

I believe it was a case of over-confidence on the part of the players and the technical crew. However, I'm not one of those to say "off with Keshi's head" because of this loss. The truth is we see these things happen all the time in World football. You have 2 or 3 games in a space of 5-7 day; chances are that you will look at the opposition and say to yourself Team A seems the tougher opponent, I think I can handle Team B without using my best 11, so you rest a few key players. We see this in the top leagues all the time. An Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea have 3 games in 7 days; let's say Leicester on Sunday in the Premier League, Barcelona or Madrid or PSG on Wednesday in the UCL and then Tottenham on Saturday in the league. The coach is likely to rest some key players for the UCL game in the belief that Leicester is easy prey. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it backfires. That's what Keshi did, by not starting Emenike, but sadly it back-fired. I may blame him for that but I won't say he has done something that is unheard of. He gambled and it failed. It is what coaches do.

The players also share in the blame. We may all question Keshi's tactical and technical abilities, but that is also dependent on the tactical and technical ability of the players at his disposal. The first Congolese goal showed a lack of tactical sense by Oboabona. An opposing player takes you on a mazy run down your flanks and is heading for you 18-yard box. You know you are loosing out on the race, the simple solution is to foul him. Yellow card and free-lick is the most that will happen. He wasn't the last man, neither was it a direct attempt at goal. I remember Paolo Maldini at USA 94 pulling such a stunt on Yekini. Maldini was the last man in defence and Yekini was about to go past him with pace. Maldini grabbed his arm and wrestled him to the floor. Sadly for us, then the straight red card for a professional foul had not been introduced, so all he got was a yellow; but he averted a one-on-one with Yekini and his goalie. I don't think Keshi is the one that will teach Oboabona that. Onazi also conceded an unnecessary penalty when all that was required was to force the Congolese player away from our goal. He had no business hacking the opposing player from behind like that. I don't believe Keshi is the one that will teach him that.

We need to take another look at our developmental programme. Sadly, we take so much pride in our monkey post, street football academies, thinking skill and physical prowess is all we need to succeed in football. Like Okocha once said, what a 12 year old kid in Europe knows tactically and technically about football, the African player is still struggling to learn at 18 or 19. That's one of the reasons an African team is still struggling to win the World Cup.

As for the NFF palavar? Well, what can I say? A house divided against itself cannot stand. Hopefully we can get our act together against South Africa. let the NFF hold their elections, employ a coach (keshi or whoever they want) and let us face the remaining 5 games with all seriousness.

My humble submission.
keshi benched emenike because he (emenike) came to camp late, to avoid camp disunity, keshi had to bench him, overheard that frm d radio ystdy. But every oda thing u said is pin point correct. South africa will feel our wrath 2mrw.

Jarus: South Africa has never beaten Nigeria in any competitive national team (male) football match, home or away. This won't be different, even in this low form.

The only time they beat Nigeria was Mandela cup 2004, which was not competitive.
their female team don beat our falcons once for african female nations cup before. Get ur facts right

I did a thread here about the rude comments of the south african fans after our loss to congo last week saturday, i believe with the call up of the uche brothers, this is the right time for us to shut this people up for good. The gentle stride of the lion should not be mistaken for cowardice.

Phones › Sony Unveils Xperia Z3 & Z3 Compact At IFA 2014‏ by mikron(op): 6:32pm On Sep 07, 2014
Sony has announced the next iteration in the Xperia line, the Z3, Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and two new wearables, the Smartwatch 3 and SmartBand Talk. All of this was announced at IFA 2014, alongside Samsung’s big announcements.
The Xperia Z3 is Sony’s new flagship, at least for the next six months.
The smartphone continues the same design language as the Z2, but inside the internals have been upgraded, to include a 2.5GHz Snapdragon processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (with microSD expansion) and a 3100mAh battery. Sony has kept the 20.7MP rear camera and 5.2-inch 1080p TRILUMINOS display, the camera is still top of the line, but the display could’ve been QHD, like most of the new high-end smartphones coming out. Android KitKat 4.4.4 will run on the Xperia Z3, under Sony’s custom OS skin. The Xperia Z3 will come in black, white, green and copper.

goksongold: Thres one thing ppl don't really understand abt sa, they r always jealous of naija, cos we r greater than them in everything, music, sport, economy, just name it, so seeing us losing to the congolese will always delight them, but they will never never quality for afcon, quote me. Bafanabafana r underdogs in soccer, they r still kids.
they are just inferior to us, and always envious of us. i dont know why

These things happen in soccer. Don't read too much into the result. Bafana are gonna bear the brunt.

This is by far from the most sensible comment here.

Izzylove66
This is the worst match I have watched this year. Ask them now, they will site NFF crisis and poor pitch as an excuse, as if the female U20 did not perform well in Canada despite the NFF crisis. In fact, a likely FIFA ban will save our face, we don’t have a team for AFCON. If we play like this against South Africa in Pretoria, we should expect the bashing of our life. Again, I’ve been defending Keshi up till now, but from now I back out. The same thing he did against France he repeated today, leaving his best players on bench only to bring them on when the damage has already been done. Omeruo played his worst game for Nigeria today. Lastly, Keshi should be sacked and another Coach to take over should draft in Iheanacho, Nwakali, Awoniyi, Success and Mohammed (their captain at U17) into the team with immediate effect. Mikel, the worst midfielder in Africa should be dropped with immediate effect. NONSENSE.

The most senseless. BTW is this supposed to be a South African? Sounds like a Nigerian.
so i thought too
