A coalition of North-East and North Central stakeholders of All Progressives Congress, APC, has called on the National Working Committee, NWC, to revisit the choice of Senator Kashim Shettima and Governor Simon Lalong as the party’s vice-presidential candidate and Director-General of its campaign respectively.
The coalition, which made the call at a briefing in Abuja, yesterday, urged the party to resolve the lingering impasse arising from its decision to float a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
Secretary General of the group, Dauda Yakubu, cautioned that there was a lot at stake for the party should it go ahead with same-faith presidential ticket.
He said: “To avoid outright rejection in 2023, the coalition, therefore, urges the party to resolve the impasse that has come about as a result of Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“We urge the APC to initiate steps and measures toward replacing Shettima with a notable party member of Christian faith.
“The leadership of the APC must take advantage of INEC’s final list of presidential candidates, which is to be published on September 20, to quickly address the wrong and hand the party’s vice presidential ticket to a Christian to assuage the feelings of those still aggrieved.
“The Muslim-Muslim ticket can only lead to the path of destruction for the party. As concerned stakeholders, we are using this medium to call on the party’s leadership to effect a change in the composition of the party’s presidential ticket.”

Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has asked a court to declare him the winner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary election and sack Atiku Abubakar from being the presidential candidate.
Wike and a PDP chieftain, Newgent Ekamon sued Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; and the PDP over the conduct of the presidential primary of the party that was held was in Abuja on May 28 and May 29, 2022.
Atiku was declared winner of the primary election with 371 votes ahead of his closest challenger, Wike, who polled 237 votes. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki got 70 votes. Tambuwal withdrew from the contest and endorsed the former vice president before voting commenced.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/782/2022, Wike and Ekamon are listed as the plaintiffs with the PDP listed as the first respondent while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is the 2nd respondent. Tambuwal and Atiku are listed as the 3rd and 4th respondents respectively.

In the originating summons, Wike and his co-applicant asked the court to determine eight issues including whether the purported transfer of Tambuwal’s votes to Atiku by the PDP was illegal and void.

Igbo youths under the auspices of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) on Wednesday warned groups and individuals promoting the presidential ambition of Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu to stay clear of the zone.

President and Publicity Secretary of the group, Goodluck Ibem and Okay Nworu, in a statement, described as “unfortunate” how certain persons from Igboland would allow themselves to be used to promote the ambition of “a man who is outdated in all ramifications in the scheme of things to be voted as a Nigerian president come 2023”
They added that in one of Tinubu outings in Ogun State, he openly boasted that he made President Muhammadu Buhari President in 2015, stressing that the input of his statement meant that the hardship Nigerians are facing was brought upon by him.
“In 2015, a dollar was exchanged for N160 naira. A litre of fuel was sold for N65, a litre of kerosene was sold for N50, diesel was sold for N50 a litre and cooking gas was sold for N100 a kilo but today, a litre of kerosene is sold for N900, a litre of diesel for N1000, a kilo of cooking gas for N1000.

“Everything in the market used by Nigerians have increased by over 1000 percent to what it used to be and the same person who brought this misery on Nigerians wants to be President?. Never. We will not allow such thing to happen.
“We the youths of Igbo nation will not allow affliction the second time upon us again. Never!!! We must have made our mistakes in 2015 but we are wiser now. Youths cannot be deceived again with any monetary inducement; it is the time of the youth to take back our nation.
“We don’t want to see any campaign posters, billboards, advert or political gathering promoting or campaigning for Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the South East. It is a warning which must be adhered to by all and sundry irrespective of your political standing.
“We have constituted a mobile taskforce to fully implement the directives of the youth leaders in the South East. The youths have spoken. Enough said!”, they said
