Some of the memorable quotes from the series

Religion / Re: What If Jesus Didn’t Fully Die? by miomonio: 8:57pm On Nov 05, 2012
frosbel: Joan Osborne poses an interesting question. “What if God were one of us?” What if He was an everyday Joe trying to get by in this life? Who would He be, and what would He look like? Modern Christianity attempts to answer this question through the person of Jesus Christ. Many Christians believe he was fully God and fully human, in a sense saying, “Hey Joan! Look to Jesus! He’s God! That’ll answer your questions and now you don’t have to sing that song anymore!” Most of us would at least be thankful for that.

What I am not thankful for is the horrendous and abundant contradictions that are created by this belief that Jesus Christ is very God of very God. What I want to focus on in this paper are the consequences of having a Savior who could not have truly died.

It is taught amongst many denominations that Jesus Christ died for our sins, but only in part. His man nature was placed in the grave and his God nature ascended to heaven. This idea is not supported by Scripture, in fact, the opposite holds true when we take the time to read our Bible. This way of viewing Jesus creates a lot of unresolved questions, of which I will address a few, but first I wish to focus on the following quote that is pretty standard of most Trinitarians.

“Only God could have died for our sins. No mere man could have possibly paid the price for all of man-kinds sin.”

With a nod of the head and an amen, this phrase is accepted by millions of Christians, yet for those who take the time to open their Bibles, a picture appears that is altogether different from the one that is painted from the pulpit. It is taught that only God could die for our sins, and that he chose to do so by manifesting himself as Jesus Christ. Yet when he died, his God nature returned to heaven, while his man nature went into the grave. This negates the very belief that only God can die for our sins because he doesn’t actually die! He goes back to heaven and the flesh he put on goes into the grave leaving us right back where we started! This leaves us in quite a predicament because if, according to this belief, God didn’t die – then our faith is in vain. Let us consider for a moment, what it would mean to our faith if Jesus Christ did not fully die.

Joan Osborne's "One of Us" song was the theme song for the American television series Joan of Arcadia.

The TV series "Joan of Arcadia" was created by Barbara Hall

I enjoyed watching it and used to look forward to watching the series until CBS pulled the rug on it after two seasons, allegedly for low viewing ratings. angry angry angry Pfft.

Watch the whole series over a weekend, trust me, it will be a humbling experience

@staggerman It doesn't matter if you dont understand, it is a lighthearted statement, any Yoruba can translate.
The Ps are the Principle, Person, Partnership, Prince, Power, Protege, Priesthood-Priest, Prophecy-Prophet etc etc.

staggerman:

Adam was not forced nor coerced to eat of the tree. Lucifer did not convince Adam to eat from the tree. Eve convinced Adam to eat from it.
Adam had received instruction from God concerning the fruit of the tree. Adam listened to his wife and disobeyed, having full knowledge of the consequences.
Just as Esau knew what would happen when he accepted to trade his birthright for a meal.

When Job's wife tried to convince him to curse God and die, he refused. Job knew the consequence of such action just as Adam knew the consequence of his action. But Job didn't allow his wife to deceive him, unlike Adam.

@staggerman Of course Adam had full knowledge and knew the consequence of taking the action.

Which is why by virtue of deduction, we knew it was him that told Eve that merely touching, not eating the fruit which was what God said, but that merely touch it will make one die.

Now, for a man to go that length, go over the top and overboard to make an attempt to dissuade someone, Eve, from eating the fruit, to now willfully take and eat the fruit, then, he must know something or was on to something and so definitely knew what he was doing.

Why did a man of power, love and sound mind, Adam, commit suicide, intentionally kill himself? Why did Adam voluntarily and intentionally take his own life?

Why did he eat the fruit?

Bushidō? I think not, no honor left after Eve ate to keep intact.

To die the death for Eve's sake? Because he fell short of his responsibilty?

First Adam wrong, bad death. Last Adam right good death.

I thought you were privy to the motive(s). Not many people are privy to why Adam ate the fruit. It is something that most people don't know or think about. I thought the author or you knew and wanted to share

You are probably not the best to ask since you werent the author but staggerman what exactly is it that Adam was doing that he knew i.e. when he was taking, eating and ate the fruit.

autoselect: Armed Robbers attacked the Ibadan warehouse of Autoselect Limited in the early hours of Saturday October 6th, 2012. The robbers, who came in a white lorry, carted away loads of Coastal engine oil and ATF, which was recently introduced by the company to the Nigerian market and has quickly become the top choice of auto mechanics because of its high quality. They also made away with cartons of Aromate car air fresheners, Prestone brake fluids and radiator coolants. Pictures of the products are attached.

We are offering a reward of N100,000 for information that leads to the recovery of the goods. Please call 08158217054 and 08052482042.

@autoselect So sorry to read about the losses. My I advice would be to contact Seun to invest N10,000.00 on I think that is the quote anyway. The N10,000.00 is to place a notice on "This Space is for Sale". The extent or degree to which this incident will be viewed and the report getting widely noticed will be increased or larger. It can be captioned "N100,000.00 Reward for Information" with the 08158217054 and 08052482042 contacts and the web link back to your topic for more details. If my recollection servers me right, I think the advertisement will run on all pages throughout NL.

grin grin grin The Ghanaians call Nigerians Mama alata or Mami alata to be precise so I thought it meant Nigerians or pepper seller grin. It was last year or so on Nairaland here that a lady told me it meant a bush girl shocked but I had already chosen the username. Told you my yoruba is poor grin

I went to a church when I was younger and they were singing, "Kilo mu tomi wa?" I thought it meant, What brought Tommy here? (you know, a boy named Tommy?) I kept on wondering why Tommy? Why not Peter or Paul? grin grin Kilo mu Peter wa? LOL

My husband is not happy. He wants all of us to go the same church as a family and he will not leave his Ghanaian church grin

@Omo Alata. ROTFL. grin grin grin Some parts of bible translations fell foul too trying to explain meanings of or interpret texts or verses. I will still advise to learn Ghana e.g Tiv. If you don't already know, start with "etise" and "borko" which means "Hi" and "am fine"
Religion / Re: Church Dilemma - Serious Replies Pls by miomonio: 6:33pm On Oct 03, 2012
Omo Alata: Hello everybody

Can y'all help me please with this dilemma. We attend a church together as a family i.e. me, hubby and the kids. I'll call this church WCC International Church wink Anyway, my husband is a Ghanaian. The church we attend is a predominantly Ghanaian-attending church (in London). The church was founded in Ghana grin. They sing, pray, preach, give their testimonies, everything in the Ghanaian language. We sit there like dummies. My older kids (teenagers) have stopped attending as "we don't hear what they are saying". I saw it as a 'day out on Sundays' smiley My husband loves the church and has recently started training there as a Pastor (he has started preaching - in the Ghanaian language) grin. It's a 40mins drive from our house.

Since April, I started attending Mountain of Fire church. It's a 10min drive away. I understand everything going on and can participate fully in the church. My teenagers attend some Sundays and they are able to participate. I've even joined the prayer warriors. Since I started MFM, my prayer life has changed. I now study the word daily. I yearn to be in the church (we have service this evening and I can't wait grin)

MFM service finishes at 12 noon. WCC International starts at 2p.m so some Sundays, after MFM, I drive down to WCC and attend the service but lately, I can't be bothered to go. About a month ago, I went there and the members afterwards told me off "how can a pastor's wife not attend every Sunday?". I told them the truth. "I don't attend because I don't hear what you are saying. You even give your testimonies in your language. You do your praise & worship in your language. You don't want 'foreigners' in your church. I can't waste my time every Sunday for nothing". Any 'foreigner' we get, eventually leave due to the language barrier. They promised to change.

Whenever I am in WCC now, they fall over themselves. A brother will take the microphone and proceed to speak in their language and someone will look at me and hastily tell them to speak English lipsrsealed It doesn't come natural to them. I feel they secretly resent me for not allowing them to enjoy themselves.

Would it be proper for me to leave a church where my husband is a pastor? Or should I continue going once a while? Or what do you think?

Sorry this is long smiley

@ Omo Alata. Etise!. Is that all? Charlie, abeggy go learn Ghana jor. Nante yiyie wink

God bless you.

@God2man What is "are you with another I.D?" suppose to mean. Explain please. To be watchful of Matthew 25:14-30 the Parable of the Talents too is what I had. You are also welcome. God bless you.

If you get to church and your pastor says, the topic of my message which will invove discussions and suggestions, is Angels ; will you tell him to focus on Jesus and forget about Angels , so that no body will fall into the hands of demons. As Righteous as Jesus was, he was tempted by the chief demon (Devil), please don't be a half baked christain. Never has there been more angelic activities like this end time.

In the words of Mike Murdock 'Some part of the bible will never work for you ; and that is the part you don't believe '

@sadeiyare Don't be brash. Why cant you overlook it?

God2man: @mionimio, Parable of the talents is a great lesson about an unprofitable servant. I believe you can open another thread for the discussion, one thing at a time. Let's focus on the topic please. God bless you.
God2man.
@God2man I don't really understand you, to be honest, not all. You say "Christians on nairaland, these Bible verses bother me. I would like to know what you think about these verses" but then you get the hump when I replied with the thought that you should be more bothered of Matthew 25:14-30 the Parable of the Talents. So you think its a great lesson and only about unprofitableness. The reality and starkness of Matthew 25:14-30 should be giving you and all concerns. I am not discussing anywhere but merely just drawing attention to it here. God bless you.

God2man: Mattew 7:13 -14" Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."

Matthew 20:16 " So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen."

Luke 13:24 " Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, i say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able."

1 Corinthians 9: 16-17 " For though i preach the gospel, i have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me, yea, woe is unto me, if i preach not the gospel!
For if i do this thing willingly, i have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me."

1 Peter 4:17-18 "For the time is come that judgement must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?
And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?"

Christians on nairaland, these Bible verses bother me. I would like to know what you think about these verses.

God bless you.

God2man.

@God2man You should be more bothered of and become panicky over Matthew 25:14-30 the Parable of the Talents.
God bless you.

The problem with most of you is that u ask questions not because you realy want to learn but because u want to make endless argument which is of no profit.
If you're asking how come about the bolded then u would'nt be misunderstood if you stated it earlier that u dont believe in God, spiritual and supernatural existance which makes you more or less an atheist.
If u dont believe in spiritual existance then there's no base for me discussing scriptural details with you.
God help you!

@joe4christ Thank you sir but I would rather have explanations on how God hardened Pharaoh's heart and replies to any of the other queries than you pissing on me.
Religion / Re: My Problem With Karma (2nd Samuel 12 V 9-11). by miomonio: 8:24pm On Sep 29, 2012
Omo Alata:

Let's start at: Genesis 15:13
And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Fastforward when Joseph became a ruler in Egypt during the famine. He brought his people over and they settled in Egypt. However, when they became many, the Pharoah of the time who had not heard of Joseph, enslaved them (acording to the prophecy in Genesis)

Remember Israel are a chosen nation. Whoever punished them would have faced God's judgement (either preordained or not) so Egypt had to face punishment wink

I don't know about Pharoah self-destructing but if you remember the story about the widow who provided for Elijah. God actually told Elijah that he had commanded a widow in Sidon to feed him so the widow had no say about the matter. She was hypnotised, so to speak grin - the same way Pharoah was 'hypnotised' to keep on saying "NO"!

@Omo Alata Whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. Slow down the pace ma'am.
Steady on. Let me master the crawl before you start me off doing jumping and skipping all over the place.
You replied in a sense or partly to why they were in Egypt
you did not reply to why the Israelite were in Egypt that long; I think they were in Egypt for 400 or so years
You said "Pharaoh was 'hypnotised' to keep on saying "NO!"".
So who did the hypnosis?
I am none the wiser how God hardened Pharaoh's heart.
I thought you would be breaking it down for me explaining how God hardened Pharaoh's heart.
or explaining also why the Israelite were in Egypt that long
You touched on why the Israelite were in Egypt but only by the fringe however I am not fully convinced the famine alone was the reason
But then that Genesis 15:13 you mentioned, no doubt, was a Spirit inspired verse
because it seems to be part of a set of declarations or pronouncements and prophecies pertaining the Israelite.
God commanded Pharaoh in a likely manner the widow.
Also God through Moses also persuaded Pharaoh when he was dragging his feet in a likely manner just as Elijah too did with the widow when she too wasn't first going to obey
OK, it is either "Pharaoh self-destructed" or like you said "God killed him"
Religion / Re: My Problem With Karma (2nd Samuel 12 V 9-11). by miomonio: 6:35pm On Sep 29, 2012
Omo Alata:

God Himself hardened Pharoah's heart so as to show the Israelites that He delivered them out of Egypt.

It didn't stop God from still killing Pharoah though wink

@Omo Alata I want to learn. How did God harden Pharaoh's heart?
I mean how exactly did God Himself harden Pharaoh's heart.
Second learning thing is, why were the Israelite in Egypt in the first place that God had to deliver them out of Egypt
and why for that matter did God had to show them that He is the Deliverer.
Another thing I like to know as well, any particular reason why the Israelite were in Egypt that long?.
Last but not the least, the final thing, I want to learn is, did God kill Pharaoh though? For real?
Or was it that Pharaoh pressed self destruct which lead to a meaningless suicide mission?
Maybe "hardened" and "killing" are contextual companions? Just me, thinking out loud there.
