UEFA have confirmed teams can name 12 substitutes on the bench in the final of Champions League and Europa League matches.


The new rules, which will come into action next season, also state that teams can use a fourth substitute in extra time during the knockout stages.

European football's governing body announced on Wednesday it would up the current quota of substitutes from seven to 11 in Champions League final, Europa League final and UEFA Super Cup.


Champions League play-offs, group-stage games, round-of-16 matches, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final have also been changed to 8pm GMT – 15 minutes later than it currently is.

Europa League matches from the group stage until round-of-16 matches will kick off at 5.55pm and 8pm GMT. Games from the same group will be played at the same time. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will all kick off at 8pm.

The UEFA Super Cup will kick-off at 8pm, which already applies to this year's final on August 15 at Tallinn's Lillekula Stadium in Estonia.

Clubs may register three new eligible players without any restrictions following the Champions League and Europa League group stages, which is in line with many current domestic league legislatures.

The Europa League will also follow in the footsteps of the Champions League, allowing teams to don a multiple-winner badge if they have won the competition (or the former UEFA Cup) three times in a row or five times in total.

As it stands, Sevilla will be the only team eligible to do so having won the competition five times.

Mehn, it's a miracle that Cristiano was able to win something with his national team; it's as if the football gods decided to compensate him for his service to football and cement his legendary status and hence their triumph ahead of the plethora of traditional European heavyweights in the last EURO. Isco's girlfriend Sara Salamo receives death threats due to his poor form


Isco's girlfriend Sara Salamo continues to be blamed for his loss of form at Real Madrid and she has gone to the police after receiving a death threat via message on Twitter.


Recently a media report alleged that she was responsible for his 'vida loca' lifestyle, to which she said that she would take legal action.

But now the saga took a more sinister twist with Salamo having the threatening message to which she replied to by writing on Twitter: "Hello, @police, this man who defines himself as misogynist is sending me these messages..."

The threatening tweet was deleted but it stated that 'your days are numbered.'

Police responded to Salamo giving her advice on how she needs to behave.

Marcos Llorente set to leave Real Madrid this summer (AS)


The defensive midfielder is expected to depart in search of regular first-team football, with Real Sociedad and Eintracht Frankfurt both keen.


Marcos Llorente is expected to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season. Having been relegated to a fringe role under head coach Zinedine Zidane, he doesn't want to go through the same experience next term.

Set to leave after disappointing season back at Bernabéu

And he is not short of suitors, with Real Sociedad and Eintracht Frankfurt well placed.

Llorente, who is the son, grandson and great-nephew of ex-Real stars Paco Llorente, Ramón Grosso and Paco Gento, respectively, returned to the Bernabéu in the summer, having excelled on loan at Alavés in 2016-17. However, the defensive midfielder has struggled to compete with regular anchorman Casemiro, regularly failing to even make the bench.

In total, Zidane has given Llorente just 942 minutes of playing time this season, mostly in Los Blancos' unsuccessful Copa del Rey campaign. In LaLiga and the Champions League, the 23-year-old has mustered just 182 minutes of action this calendar year.

Against this backdrop, he is set to explore the options available to him in the summer, with La Real seemingly the frontrunners to sign him, possibly as part of a deal to take right-back Álvaro Odriozola the other way. However, it is unclear whether the recent departures of La Real's head coach, Eusebio Sacristán, and sporting director Loren will affect the outfit's interest in Llorente.

Eintracht keen to take Llorente to Bundesliga

Meanwhile, Eintracht would be keen to snap up the youngster - particularly if, as expected, Real Madrid opt to re-sign Llorente's fellow defensive midfielder, Omar Mascarell, from the Germans.

The Bundesliga club view the excellent relationship between their sporting director, Fredi Bobic, and Real general manager José Ángel Sánchez, as a potential ace card, while their prospects of snaring Llorente are also boosted by the positive progress made by both Mascarell and Jesús Vallejo after joining Eintracht from Real.
