& finally 7. The Serpent and the Rainbow Where: Haiti, 'died' 1962
What Happened: Ethnobotanist Wade Davis investigated the claims of Haitian Clairvius Narcisse, who reportedly died... then came back to his house nearly twenty years later.
Possible Rational Explanation: Actually, the science is probably more evil than any supernatural wrongdoing. One theory is that Narcisse was poisoned by toad venom, making him appear dead, then kept alive as a 'zombie,' enslaved on a sugar plantation, made docile by the hallucinogen, Datura.
Most Terrifying Detail: Narcisse's own brother was suspected of poisoning him.

6. Robert the Doll Where: Key West, Florida
What Happened: Robert Eugene Otto was given the doll by his family's voodoo-practicing servant in 1906. Otto would have conversations with the doll, and the voice that answered was not his own... When furniture was knocked over, Otto often said, 'Robert did it!'
Possible Rational Explanation: Children have great imaginations
Most Terrifying Detail: When the Ottos moved, they left Robert the Doll in the attic. A little girl in the house's new family found it, and still maintains to this day that the doll tried to kill her several times.

5. The Philip Experiment Where: Canada, 1972
What Happened: A bunch of parapsychologists tried to create a ghost to prove that the power of suggestion can cause 'supernatural events.' They invented the life (and death) story of a man called Philip, then tried to contact him through seances... which worked.
Possible Rational Explanation: The Power of Suggestion
Most Terrifying Detail: The scientists contacted Philip in front of a live audience of 50 people. Lights flickered and the table rose from the ground.

4. Bathsheba Sherman and the Perron Family
Where: Rhode Island, 1863 then 1970s
What Happened: Bathsheba Sherman was suspected of witchcraft when a baby died under her care. The Perron family moved into the Sherman property during the 1970s, commenting,
Everyone who has lived in the house that we know of has experienced something. The man who moved in to begin the restoration on the house when we sold it left screaming without his car, without his tools, without his clothing. Possible Rational Explanation: Superstition / Media Sensation
Most Terrifying Detail: Although she was never convicted, legend says that the cause of the death of Bathsheba's child was a large sewing needle, driven into the base of the baby's skull. u fit continue d rest
