Someone asked me why will you resign from your job when you haven't gotten another In this present Nigeria and I put up my million dollar smile grin and told him that a there are benefits in having a good name. cool

I know things are really difficult in this economy of ours. Getting a job is one and getting benefits from the job is another with examples from the woes being suffered by the civil servants in Kogi.

I was jobless for about 3months because the company I worked for didn't have any project at hand so we came to a mutual understanding and I moved on.
During my jobless period, I searched and searched for a job but this is Nigeria where anything goes. You know you are qualified for an engineering position but an accountant who is the HR feels otherwise or you attend an interview and they want you to collect peanuts that wouldn't help you save at the end of the day.

After I passed through this frustrations, I decided to take a digital marketing course which finally helped in securing my job as a digital marketer in a one-man firm. (I never knew it was a one-man firm before having read the experiences of other Nairalanders)

I started the job based on what I was told at the interview but later realized that it was all lies.
Ranging from who really owns the firm to my job descriptions.
So, I have listed the major reasons in no particular order on why I resigned after working for just a month

Distance and Security
The distance from my house to my workplace takes approximately 8hrs on the road to and fro
I lacked sleep, moved about with a keen sense of security due to early morning and late night movements. Sometimes, I I wouldn't get vehicles and would need to walk a long distance to be able to get home and this really affected my health.

Job description
I know what I signed for during the interview but it was different when I started.
I didn't only do the work of a digital marketer but also train other staffs who are not too skilled with the computer, do Graphics Design each day, if any computer develop problems, I will need to check it out, develop business proposals, look for clients offline (Marketer) and also serve as a customer care.
I was being exploited by my boss.

Integrity at stake
During my second week, I finally knew that the company was a joke.
They scam unsuspecting victims. Companies and individuals.
You will be listed on the website and be called to register stating that they have jobs for you.
The victims fall for it and will probably wait for eternity before they can get a job from the company.
The owner of the company put me under lots of pressure to do this and if there's one thing I believe in, it is a good name.
I can't just scam people trying to make ends meet so that I can be paid my salary.

So, I resigned after a month. The owner called me telling me to return and I refused. He made a offer that I work from home which I didn't accept...

About a week later, a subscriber threatened one of the staffs in the office and another staff followed my footstep and I was happy that I left before this occurred.

In life we are often faced with situations such as this, so will you sell your integrity for stipends? The world will certainly be a better place if we believe that it begins with our actions.
Something tells me I know you.. we worked in the same place.. is this office located at Badore?

Thank God you walked away.. OP a better job is coming...

Honestly, you guys have spoken my mind, you guys just told the OP the bitter truth.

I have been a graduate of microbiology for the past 5years, you can't believe that I have never used it to work before.

Not that I have not been seeing jobs, but the experience they request for, is like walking from Nigeria to Chicago.

Sometimes, I always think otherwise, I have been to the last stage of an interview before in an FMCG coy, but was turned down on two occasion that I don't ha e experience in my field.

Even, I was turned down to work as a lab scientist in ministry of health, just because they said, a microbiologist without medical licence can't work in the field.

Infact, these days I don't even go near most of all these my field again.

I prefer applying in other field, where what they needed is what you can bring in not really your certificate sometimes.

OP, to be honest with you, please go for medical lab science, or you go for better lucrative course, leave biochemistry and microbiology out of the page.

Majority of my friends we finished together and some that also finished as biochemistry are now working in bank, some access, some uba and some first bank.

OP take note.. a word is enough......

chances of you landing a job is slim.. I would advise you go for either medical lab science or pharmacy.. I studied biochemistry.. and I'm yet to work with it.. you can do Msc to increase your chances in the brewery industry if that's where you aiming for.. just my opinion though

I'm also in same shoes with you, bt improving gradually.
one way to get better is by confronting the challenge head on e.g in the case of public speaking, whenever you have the opportunity to talk to a gathering of people (no matter how small) do not shy away from it.Its a gradual process, you'll get better.
PS: I've come to realise we can't really change who we are, the best we can do is behaviour modification.
yeah.. behavior modification..I have always shy away from leadership position cos of this.. most jobs I applied for and got requires me to be outgoing... I'm passionate about customer service but it seems this outgoing thing is really a drawback for me..

Career / Re: What's The Role Of A Business Analyst? by Mizjemie25: 1:13pm On Aug 30, 2017
kellyjoesteve:
Though i have written some post concerning this very topic on my blog but to answer your question am going to be listing one or two point you must bear in mind if you want to be counted as a successful business analyst. Bear with me is going to be long somehow just try and read through.

The true is that the role of a business analyst can be very difficult to some an extent. First you must wade through the mass of information presented to determine the underlying problems. This information may or may not be correct. You must as a business analyst research to comprehend the true situation of the business. The information supplied to you as a business analyst is given from many perspectives. Opinions can influence how one perceives the related issues. At times, the opinions can add unrelated information which only complicates the role.

Problems can occur for the analyst when persons with the business know how try to explain what must be done. The role of the business analyst is to understand what is the desired outcome. You are to listen and put into perspective what is being relayed. Your role as business analyst is that of a problem solver. Understanding both aspects as a user and as one affected by the application will allow you as business analyst to perform your role.

Another one is your role as a business analyst is to merge the Information Technology (IT) department with the business departments. You must be able to separate the separate the individual teams while still maintaining a uniform team management system. Teaching these two teams how to work to overcome obstacles and strive for completion of a goal is a main directive for the business analyst. You will act as a liaison between the two. Performed correctly will result in project completion. Success will be achieved.

Remember you must not jump ahead to the solution without utilizing the proper steps. A good business analyst will be skilled in explaining the structure of each step and co-ordinate them with each department. This will reassure management the job is being done in a timely manner.

The role of the business analyst is not to jump to the end and start with the solution. This will only result in failure. Assessing the needs to determine what is actually required will allow the business analyst to implement the steps to success. There are times when management will think otherwise. The business analyst should try to make all parties understand what is important and what is not relevant. This ensures all information needed to identify the solution has been presented. In the end, the business analyst will be able to determine if the solution will meet the requirements designed in the project proposal. This will ensure success for the business analyst and the company.

thanks. this post has been helpful..

I work as a business analyst in a company. A consulting firm.

Depending on the nature of the organization, a business analyst will study an organization and come up with the business process solutions, gap reviews, functional requirements and needs, the market review, needs analysis, and several reports of an organization.

I am just weak, I would have written more. please send a PM let's discuss further on it tomorrow. Thanks
thanks for your response , I just sent a PM.
