Thanks

Concerning why US? Put more light please

About NCCU, personal reason like wat
She was asked why she was going to US for a masters degree and her answer was that 'US is a developed country' ( I heard it loud and clear). Then I think i heard d VO say Nigeria is developed enough to offer her a masters degree in engineering.

About Why NCCU, your response is generic na. Try and choose something specific like what you personally stand to gain there. Not because its the best school. Its a poor response

Basquiatttt:
Hello guys,
Today was my interview, 15th July, 2016. 9am.

Transcripts:

VO: Good morning, may I have your passport and I-20.
Me: Passed it over.

VO: why did you choose Arkansas Tech University?
Me: I choose ATU because it provides me a track under my Masters in Information Technology where I can focus on my specialty which is computer networking.
Also, I choose ATU because it's has a Cisco Networking Academy where I can concurrently pursue my professional certifications in the Computer network in which I can further pursue there.

VO: What schools did you apply to?
Me: Cleveland State University, Shippensburg University, Portland State University, Southern Arkansas University & Arkansas Tech University.

VO: Who's sponsoring you?
Me: My mom.

VO: *picks up two white papers*

I didn't even hear what she was saying again. Ahead Ahead!

Thanks to all the good people here.

Tips: Be sure of yourself, forget who's dishing out denials (most people don't know why they're there and no VO just wants to deny you a visa, they want intelligent responses that hold water), be willing to do your homework regarding possible questions. The way you answer the first question sets the tone of the interview. It's very okay to be nervous as you approach the VO but take a deep breath and believe you're not there to answer to man. You there because God has an ultimate plan for you and this is just a piece to the puzzle.

God bless people.
congrats dear. Welcome on board. Thank God for you

This is the POE info I was given after the interview. I'm just gonna type it the way it is written

Congratulations on being approved for a student visa to United States

A few reminders before you depart:

1. When you arrive in the United States, you will need to show your original I-20 with your international passport at the port of entry, so make sure you have it on your person.

2. You cannot arrive more than 30 days before the program Start Date listed on your I-20
3. You must be in the United States no later than the Program Start Date on your I-20.

Thank you and wish you all the best with your studies.

Hi everyone!

I am so happy and grateful to God for approving my student visa today at Abuja, 7:30am appointment. Grace is real. I can vividly remember how scared I was preparing for this interview and God whispering "Be calm, relax and trust me". This statement kept me at ease while I did my homework and sure kept me relaxed while in the Consulate.

So here is how it all went down:

I arrived by 6:30am, met a good number of people. I saw a seat, and wanted to sit on it and the lady told me it was N100, laugh wan kill me die.
I then stood and waited with other applicants. At around some minutes past 7, we were called for security checks. We were asked to provide our appointment letters, no bags, no mobile phones. After that we were allowed to enter the compound and trek down to the office. I was the third person on the queue but my passport was rejected because my hair covered my forehead a bit. I still remained calm and found my way out. Took the passport outside the gate and got back in. My passport was finally accepted and I went further for my biometrics. Then joined the queue for the interview. Hmmmmm, alot of people were declined visa oo while a few got approved. When I was finally in front of the queue, my heart skipped but I tried to regain my composure. I then heard, "next applicant to the window 8 please". I walked up to the VO smiled and said 'Goodmorning'

I smiled all through the interview (I'm a "smiler", so it was really natural) while the VO kept giving me a stern look. We kept looking at each other eyeball to eyeball through out.

VO: Good Morning, can i have your passport please
Me: I handed it over
VO: your i-20
Me: did same
Vo: So why did you choose USF
Me: Well, because I was able to get in contact with one of the professors, Dr Luu, whose research interest aligns with mine which is Cancer Epidemiology
VO: ok
what was your undergraduate major
Me: Microbiology
VO: what is Mitochondria used for?
-(hian, i never expected this question, not even in my wildest dreams)
Me: sorry?
Vo: Mitochndria what is it used for?
Me: It is used for internal respiration in the cell ( I quickly tried to recollect my undergraduate days in the lecture hall)
VO: he repeated same question
Me: i repeated my answer
Vo: Where is the mitochondria found?
Me: In an animal cell
VO: What do you do currently?
me: I am currently unemployed
vo: Have you travelled outside of Nigeria before?
me: yes, i have been to Dubai
Vo: How do you want to fund your masters program?
me: My father is sponsoring
VO: what does your father do?
Me: He is an ... been into private practice for ...yrs. And his company is also into consulting and manufacture of...
Vo: do you have your father's bank statement?
Me: yes
Vo: Can i see them
Me: handed dem ova( naira and US statements, with a deposit in the latter)
vo: why is dere a small amount of money on this one and a huge deposit on the other
Me: It is not my personal account, it is my father's account, so i wouldnt know
Vo: checked the papers again and said ' Savings accumulate over a period of time, why is dere a huge deposit of money on this one'
Me: like I said, it is not my personal account, it's my dad's account
Vo: what's the mascot of the university?
Me: ( I taught he said masters) I am going for a masters degree in Public health
Vo: Mascot, what's the symbol of the Mascot
me: Oh! It's a bull ( Involuntarily used my thumbs to signify the horns as i answered)
Vo: Goes and picks a white paper and started talking and pointing at it
Me: I went blank, I couldnt hear a thing anymore. I had to touch my ears and told him " I cant hear you"
VO: I said, Your visa has been approved blah blah blah
Me: I rejoiced and thanked him, was about leaving, then he called me back and handed another smaller white sheet of paper to me
VO: This contains what you should know and expect at your port of entry blah blah blah Good luck
Me: I thanked him and he watched me rejoice as i left

Your Primary occupation simply asks what your role/function in your present (or last) job is/was.
Filling unemployed in your Ds-160 doesn't give a good impression about you to the VO. Have you not done any work at all since NYSC?
Thanks for the response.

No I have been unemployed after my youth service last year july

Hello everyone, I am really lucky to have encountered a platform like Nairaland. I have learnt alot here as regards to US Visa Interview questions. Also, needful to say, the sense of humor of the house is really amazing...I always get cracked up reading through threads.Kudos!

Meanwhile, I got an admission offer for fall 2016 from the University of South Florida for a Masters in Public health. Currently filling My DS-160 form and really do not know what to fill as a Primary Occupation. I graduated 2013, and finished Nysc in july 2015 and i'm currently unemployed till date.

Please help!

Thanks.
