What does the future hold for the Catalan giants? The Catalan independence referendum and how will it affect FC Barcelona We all are aware of the fact a referendum is being held in Catalonia on 1st of October. But the truth is that the referendum itself is illegal according to Spanish constitution as it was suspended by constitutional court on 7 September 2017. But the Catalan govt stated that the court's order was not valid for Catalonia and they have support of 750 out 948 municipalities in the region, including partial support from the capital Barcelona. The Catalan govt is firm on their decision of holding a referendum on the pre-decided date but the Spanish govt has announced that they will do everything possible to stop it. Even if the referendum is held, the result could go either way because according to a recent survey 41% Catalans want independence but 49% wants to stay with Spain. If the majority votes for 'NO' then there will be no problem but if they vote for 'YES' then as promised, the Catalan govt will announce independence from Spain in 48 hours of results. If that happens then, it won't be a pleasant situation in Spain's because it could lead to violent protests against the Spanish govt because they are anything but ready to accept this decision. Though it is unlikely that after all the resistance Catalonia will attain independence, but if it happens then what about FC Barcelona? Well, the truth is that La Liga earns a huge amount of money not only from the El Clasico but from Barcelona's matches in general. They cannot afford to loose one of its most prestigious clubs in the history of football. Even though La Liga president has previously said that Barça might be forced to leave La Liga if Catalonia becomes a free nation, it might not happen. La Liga might change some of its rule to keep FC Barcelona in the league. But if they don't make any changes and allow Barça to leave, then two things can happen 1. Barça along with other Catalan clubs can form a Separate league of its own. Or 2. Barça can join League 1 in France. A similar situation arose in 2015 and the French Prime Minister offered Barça a place in their league. Considering the fact that Monaco plays there this is one of the strong possibilities that might happen. But I personally don't think that La Liga would be stupid enough to let FC Barcelona go and they might make a few changes in rules if Catalonia gains independence. #copied |

I knew the media outlets were only lying. Barcelona did not offer more than 100m. If they had, Liverpool would've accepted.
