Though this topic is old now, for the benefit of those who might still pop back to view or those just passing by, I thought I throw in a few truths. Nobody knows where any scripture really came from or whether it is true or false. When the bible is read, it is obvious that there are a lot of gaps. One might assume that a lot of stuff has been taken out in order to clean it up and make it a magic free book. Miracles and magic are the same however magic can be done by tricking those who dont know the art ie pure physical tricks. Magic can be split up into physical tricks and miracles. Magic is a tool used by pastors, priests and anyone seen to do these feats. Some people are born able to carry out magical activities but it dont mean they are Godly people. Like our fore fathers had there magic so did other cultures and people have theirs. We learn from the bible written for us that our God takes time and steps to do things eg 7 days to create the earth, several plagues to release the Isrealites, etc. Why does Moses need to stick a staff into the river to part it? has they approached the river, God can just part it for them cant He? It is quite clear from many of the passages that magic is a tool for achieving something and that things dont just happen. |
I would like you all to know that the scanner used by Drug Enforcement at MM airport Lagos, is a very dangerous cancer causing machine. It is no where tested or calibrated like those used by TSA. When I went through this machine I began to taste rust in my mouth 6mins later. I felt tired and unusual. Only God knows how many years has been knocked of my life span by the procedure. One thing is for certain, if you have a Muslim name then you are more likely to be picked on. If you have a Muslim name and your job is in engineering then you will most definitely be scanned. This is a crime against humanity because picking on some people and exposing them to lethal doses of radiation in the name of security, where the act of exposure does guarantee safety ie only those whom the Enforcement Agents want to bully are being scanned, leaving a massive loop hole for genuine terrorists to slip through. Scanning 20 out of 300 passengers is just nonsense where terrorism is concerned. |
Not that people don't value their own life, its just that its late only when its too late then they realise that it has always been a risk they took. Oh it cant happen to me! Oh it cant happen to me! Oh it cant happen to me! |
Antiques of the rogue letting agents Letting agents will sometimes collect e.g #90,000 and give you a receipt of #60,000 along with some silly excuse that the other money is for other things. If something should then go wrong, you don't get the undocumented sum back. Most agents will collect money from 2 or 4 people on one property. Agents tend to communicate the availability of a property amongst themselves. Each agent will take a customer or victim to the same vacant property and then collect money. Duped Lagosians will then have to squabble amongst themselves for the property. Sometimes an agent will let out a property on behalf of a landlord, collect the money and run. Instead of the stupid landlord to run after the agent, he goes on to disturb the tenant for a repeat payment or eviction. All these evil activities go unpunished and there don't seem to be any law to curb this activity. Would someone kindly let Fashola know cos I don't think he does As per landlord giving notice, that too is not enforceable. A friend of mine rented an apartment and paid 2 years money, he then travelled abroad for six months on business. When he got back he found all his stuff outside and new tenants living in his flat. Apparently in his absence, the landlord passed on and those relatives that inherited the property just broke in and moved his things out without any notice. Their excuse was that they thought the property was vacant since they did not see anyone there. They promised to refund the money and a list of damaged personal effects was made. The original tenancy is about to end this August and so far no money has been refunded. It is beginning to look like another sum of money is going into the hands of a lawyer to sort this out in court. But the worst aspect of this case is the culprits refuse to show their faces and no one knows their names or where they live. They keep on putting their agent forward and they seem to swop agents like garments. In a case like this, whom do you sue? |
So far the law has not worked or maybe they are still cooking it. You cannot train an okada, many of them have bad eye sight and they cannot afford glasses. They also don't have a fast thinking faculty and they operate mainly on instinct. The okada is a very dangerous animal that ruins life. If you go out walking in Lagos and you get back home without being run over or maimed by an okada, you should give thanks and glory. |
Hello my people. A new law is coming to put a stop to payment of 2 to 3 year advance rent, but will this solve the problem of exploitation by agents?. Residential Letting Agents are the worst scum of the earth in Lagos. They make hard work look bad and hard working people look like muguns. After a landlord builds or buys a property at great expense, an agent sitting in a dingy office doing nothing will claim up to 70% of the rent as commission. This pushes the cost of renting so high eg if the rent is #300,000 for 2 years, an agent will add a whopping #210,000 for his own pocket bringing the rent to #510,000. I am not forgetting Tenancy Agreement fee, I come to that later. Its really easy money for the lazy kind. The agents like to give excuses that they have to walk many miles a day and knock on many doors and ask questions. They claim that this is hard work. The fact is most landlords seek the help of the agent to let their properties. Should it not be the landlord who should pay the agents commission. Back in the days of monthly payments, an agent had the job of monthly collections and earned his keep by adding a fair amount for his service of collecting rent for the landlord. Now they just sit in the office and collect 2 years rent without any struggle and they still claim a large commission. Some even charge each prospective tenant up to #1000 transport and viewing fee. On top of everything, there is the fake and false Tenancy Agreement fee up to #20,000. This is a fee for the #20 photocopy of an agreement, a document that is supposed to be issued by a legal firm and witnessed by a solicitor will be provided by the agent for you to sign. It is not even worth the paper it is written on. All this pushes up our rent as above to #530,000. I feel that the passing of this law is another waste of time. Here is an opportunity to put a stop to a nasty system of exploitation and all the government is doing is to change annual rent to monthly rent. Well it is not good enough especially for Lagosians. What is worth doing is worth doing well. If Fashola want to help us with rent and accommodation, the agents should be the first on the bill. |
Look people, this argument cannot have a conclusion and I tell u why. ![]() I see all the good things that he is doing and also the bad bad bad things that he has done. It is only a fact of life, u cannot have light without darkness, you cannot eat delicious food without doing stinky shits and no one will ever be perfect. People should be saying "Eko Alatunse O" because Eko ti baje beyond repair. Is it the poor drainage to talk about or new roads that cant stand the test of time. Young BRT buses are looking like 40 year old vehicles. It is true what the bible says " do not put fresh wine in old skin bags, they BURST". Well at least O gbinyanju, lets all drink what we can of the fresh wine b4 the skins burst I hear Fashola supporters say. Fashola has good intentions at heart but he is not being advised well. I give you one example, solar street lights. Good idea isn't it? especially in a country that has poor power regulation. Did anybody tell Fashola that a solar powered street lamp is only as good as the battery within it, No. People will say "ha dis one good O, na sun it dey use". Wrong, it only uses the sun to charge up the battery, the light actually run on the battery. There are many types of batteries. The best battery for this project would have been a deep cycle gel type. They can last for 10 years given that they are charged properly. These street lights are beginning to fail left right and center due to battery and circuitry failure. Another complain is the destruction of property. There is nothing wrong in houses being demolished to make way for progress. The problem is Fashola does not COMPENSATE the victims of his activities and those that are compensated are not done so in a way as to fully replace the loss. I have written about this in earlier posts so I wont repeat myself. Fashola comes down heavy on hawkers and street side traders. Don't forget that this is a country with no State benefits or State financial support for the unemployed yet jobs are hard to come by and those who create some honest livelihood for themselves are being persecuted. I am not saying dont clear the hawkers but give them something to survive on or do. Make it realistic, not that they should go and rent shops when they cant even rent a room to live in. Clear the streets with compassion and consideration. Fasola's government is lacking in many areas but the worst area is proper traffic control. Okada's are lawless and dangerous and proper laws are not being enforced to control them. Dangerous and unfit lorries carry heavy containers through Lagos which overturns and crushes innocent people. I mean the list just goes on. First things first, sit down and plan all roads and proper drainage, consult more than one expert b4 using common sense. Start the repairs b4 putting BRT buses, bad roads destroy good buses. Get proper traffic management. Concentrate on a project at a time it is one thing b4 d other. What is the point in creating a garden then allowing it to flood. etc I cant go on and on. There is so much that needs to be said. We don't want a government that just does cosmetic stuff in order to gain quick popularity, we need one that is doing what needs to be done and would do it properly and well planned. Fashola needs to get organized and stop rushing, doing things haphazardly without proper planning and without due care and consideration for Lagosians. You cannot have a megacity without the cooperation of the inhabitants. All factors have to be taken into consideration. The old skin bag needs to be skinned gradually and the new skin put in place b4 we fill it up with fresh wine. I know how I would do it if given the chance. EKO ALATUNSE O! |
Haa whats d point, why not just pull the whole of Lagos down, plan it redesign it and rebuild it. Whats the point of patchy patchy. Ive seen the so called drainage work and Its not going to cut it. Whats worth doing is worth doing well. We need better drainage systems in Lagos and I mean advanced systems with clearable sewers and waste (affluence) processing plants. |
How do you know that all the buildings he is pulling down are dangerous? I am talking about decent buildings without proper paper work. How would you like it if say 5 years ago you built property and you made the necessary applications, papers did not come out, you bribed some officials which is the norm to hurry things up and they end up giving you dodgy papers. You dont know they are dodgy, as far as you are concerned you have done the right things. Soon a government pulls down your house because there is no record of your property and your papers are fake. Tell me is that the solution. Fashola is really trying for Lagos and there is a lot of cosmetic changes going on. He only has 2 years left in government, he has to win the next election and the one after that b4 he can reallly pull of this rebuild of Lagos State properly. Nigeria has a nasty maintenance culture, a single year under another government and all the good work will be eroded. He needs to put a lot of departments into place to strengthen the foundations of his changes but do they even have foundations. |
I would like to add that Fashola is trying but its really sad to say that it is not original. Its a bit like Idiagbon and after Fashola leaves office, people will only remember him for the negative things like the destruction of legitimate property etc. Why destroy people's homes, I can understand if a house is blocking a road or built on a canal but to destroy ones home just because the paper work is not up to scratch in a country like Nigeria is just wanton rogue destruction. Not many people in Nigeria build huge houses without going through the proper procedure, we are not talking about shacks here we are talking about solid houses. Records for these houses were probably lost or erased and the result is demolition. I am very much for the Egbe omo Oduwa, Let us break away from a hash government system. The problem with government is that it is too distant from the people. Governors take silly ideas from the western world, ideas that have been hundreds of years in the making, ideas that have been tweaked and reviewed then they want to try and impose those ideas here and it just cannot work. There is no humanity in the way decisions are made by government. With Egbe omo Oduwa, people will sit down and discuss with the various cheifs and bale's and proper humane decisions can be made about how to go further. |
