The refusal of the Department of the State Security Service (DSS) to produce former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki before an FCT High Court today, stalls the trial of the Ex-NSA. At the resumed hearing, Rotimi Jacob who is prosecuting for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) informed Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf that the defendant refused to come to court on the ground that his lawyers, Joseph Daudu and Ahmed Raji would not be in court. The prosecutor told the court that he persuaded the defendant to come to court to see how the proceedings would be conducted but claimed that the defendant did not yield to his persuasion. He therefore asked the court to begin the trial in the absence of the defendant since the business of the court slated was the trial to commence. Jacob also told the court that an operative of DSS told him that the counsels to the defendant have never made any attempt to come into the DSS Office to see their client who has been in their custody since December last year. Rotimi Jacob alleged that the refusal of the defendant to come to court was a ploy to scuttle the trial. However, in a vehement opposition to the claim of the prosecution, Mr. Wale Balogun who stood for Dasuki, urged Justice Baba Yusuf to disregard the claim of the prosecution adding that up to this moment, the counsel to the defendant have not been allowed to have access to their client in the custody of the DSS. Balogun said that the claim of Jacob that an operative of DSS told him (Jacob) that Dasuki’s lawyers never made attempts to see him in the custody was baseless and unwarranted because he was quoting a third-party. Dasuki’s lawyer said on the contrary it was the DSS and the prosecution that scuttle the trial by their deliberate refusal to produce the defendant who has been in their custody since last year in court. The counsel claimed that Rotimi Jacob as the prosecutor cannot give evidence from the bar on why the defendant was not brought to court. Adding that what he ought to have done was to have filed an affidavit evidence to explain to the court why the defendant was not in court. Balogun stood his ground that the accused cannot be tried in his absence and without access to his lawyers to prepare effective defence adding that the prosecution will continue to bungle the trial until they resolved to obey the rule of law and take necessary steps required by law. The position of Dasuki’s lawyer was adopted by lawyers standing for other defendants in the criminal charges brought against Dasuki. Justice Baba Yusuf, in his comment, agreed that the business of court was for trial to commence but noted that that cannot be done in the absence of the defendant and without the permission of the court. The Judge said he would have agreed with the prosecution (Rotimi Jacob) that lawyers to Dasuki have not made any effort to access their clients in the custody. Adding that it was clear that the information dished out to the court by Jacob was hearsay obtained from unnamed DSS Operatives. The judge, therefore agreed with the defence counsel on the need to adjourned the case. Consequently, Justice Baba Yusuf adjourned the matter till April 6, 2016 for the prosecution to produce the defendant in court. Responding to questions, the governor said that there were no plans to convert the $20 billion held by Nigerians in domiciliary accounts. “For the avoidance of doubt, the bank will continue to allow domiciliary account holders unfettered access to the funds in their accounts. I need to seize this opportunity to explain that these funds are not idle as have been wronged reported. Those funds on the balance sheet are funding assets on the other side of the balance sheet,” he said. Mr. Emefiele urged a speedy passage of the 2016 federal government budget in order to halt the depressing effects of the uncertainty that engulfed the waiting period. Knowing that the implementation of the budget will go a long way in boosting business confidence and re-invigorating the financial market. According to him, the fiscal challenges facing the nation was not peculiar, as according to him, all other oil exporting nations were in similar situation. His words, “We have been meeting with the fiscal authorities and we have been discussing the direction of the economy and the challenges that face us at this time especially, realizing fully well that this challenge is not peculiar to Nigerian and this is a challenges that confronts practically all economies in the world, whether you are a commodity exporting country or not.” On Deposit Money banks’ refusal to lend to the private sector, the governor said that there has been rising cases of Non-Performing Loans and that the apex bank was in discussion with the DMBs with a view to working out strategies that would give rise to increased lending without undue risks exposure among the banks. 0 0 0 After coordinated terror attacks on an airport and metro station in Belgium’s capital, Brussels on Tuesday led to the death of scores of people, social media has gone agog with anti-Islamic sentiments. In many social media posts following the gruesome attacks, many are accusing Islamist fundamentalists of being behind the attacks that has left more than 34 persons dead and many others injured. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, although fingers have been pointed at the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group, as the state-owned news agency Belga said that shots were fired and shouts in Arabic were heard before the two explosions. Some of the comments on social media are…

Sunni Islam’s leading seat of learning, Al-Azhar, said Tuesday’s attacks in Brussels “violate the tolerant teachings of Islam,” and urged the international community to confront the “epidemic” of terrorism. “Al-Azhar strongly condemns these terrorist attacks. These heinous crimes violate the tolerant teachings of Islam,” the Cairo-based Al-Azhar said in a statement. “If the international community does not unite to confront this epidemic, the corrupt will not stop from committing heinous crimes against the innocent.” The Egyptian foreign ministry also condemned the attacks that left at least 26 people dead and dozens wounded in Brussels. “The time has come for the world to make a final stand to deal with the phenomenon of international terrorism,” ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement issued in English. He called for steps to tackle it at the “financing and ideological levels … and to prevent the recruitment of more individuals by criminal terrorist groups”. Wike said the arrests of some PDP Chieftains in state less than 48 hours to the election was a calculated attempt to give the All Progressives Congress, APC, undue advantage and that could create avoidable crisis in the state. Governor Wike, who was on a live radio station Thursday morning, said: “A whole Chairman of a party you send people from Abuja to come and arrest him and you say we should fold our hands? When you push people to the wall they will resist because they will say enough is enough and what leads to revolution.” On the deployment of the soldiers and statement by President Muhammadu Buhari that the security agencies have been direct to deal decisively with sponsors of violence in the state, the Governor said he would not comment on that. He said “As the Chief Security Officer of the state, I was not consulted but they have assured of tight security. As a state I have given them necessary support.” However, in sharp contrast, Emmanuel Aguma, the Attorney-General and State Commissioner for Justice, dismissed the deployment of soldiers for the purpose of election as illegal as declared by the court in a case instituted by APC in the Ekiti State election against the deployment of soldiers. Aguma wondered why APC as a party that went to court over the deployment of soldiers for an election and got judgment in their in Ekiti is now deploying soldiers for the purpose of election. He threatened that if anybody in the state suffered any injury or loss the government would institute legal action to seek remedies. When asked if he would accept the result of the Saturday election whichever way it goes, he said,”I have told people that we will win the election so why won’t I accept the result? APC cannot win election in Rivers State. You want us do analysis from local government to local government? How will they win it? Let people stop telling lies. Why people are saying we are instigating violence is because we said we would resist rigging.” Meanwhile, the battle of Supremacy between Wike and Minister of Transportation Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, has shifted to Radio stations in Port Harcourt. Amaechi’s security infrastructure that was set up by his government to monitor and track down kidnappers and criminals in state was dismantled by the Wike administration due to lack of maintenance and payment of salaries to the personnel that manned the structures. While Governor Nyesom Wike was on Rhythm 93.7 FM, Amaechi was on FM 95.1 Thursday. While Wike was urging his supporters to resist arrest, Amaechi was assuring his supporters of adequate security on Saturday. Wike on air publicly apologised for asking a Caretaker Committee Chairman to physically assault the former Governor by slapping him if he is seen moving from polling booth to another because that would be a violation of the Electoral Law. He said if what he told the people to physically resist the former Governor on election day is misconstrued, he apologized for the statement. Wike said as a the Governor of the state and the Chief Security Officer he is entitled to move on that day but had decided to vote and remain in his house and wondered why the Minister would threaten that he would visit his ward. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/03/17/security-opeartives-from-abuja-storm-rivers-to-arrest-pdp-boss/ |

Buhari has dug his own grave |
Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has called on the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to free the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. Dokubo in the article published by The Trent has said that time will come and everyone should come together to make sure Kanu is freed and Biafra is restored. Former militant said: ”Kanu did not commit any crime by calling for self-determination and he should be freed. It is never a crime to call for self-determination, thus, he should be freed. Biafrans have to put away their differences and make sure he comes out. When I was in detention, Igbo came together to bring me out. Nnamdi has done tremendously well and has shown resoluteness in the Biafra struggle. Our goal is our independence and the good of our people. ”IPOB should extend their campaign to every region in Biafraland and not just Igboland. The Biafra gospel should be preached everywhere and people should be told why they should fearlessly join in this movement.” “It is our collective responsibilities that will make Biafra restoration a success. “The Biafra struggle is for everyone and no one can do it all alone, thus, everyone should do away with differences and come together to make sure Kanu is freed and Biafra is restored. Leadership should not be our interest now; everyone should focus on our goal, which is the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. “Any Biafran who wants to deny the fact that Kanu catalysed this quest for Biafra independence is lying to himself; it is an obvious truth. “This is not time to nurse grudges against one another so that our enemies will not take advantage of it and then use it against us. “I urge every Biafran to be strong and also call for the release of our brother, Kanu.” However, Naij.com can’t independently verify this message. Former Niger Delta war lord recently explained the origin of Biafra saying that the name of the movement is Ijaw and not Ibo. This is contrary to the general belief. Asari Dokubo expressed his support for the movement earlier saying that his group shares the same vision with the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra. Nigerians....this is the punishment from the gods for your terrible choice of voting in the dullard of Daura. Next time you will choose your candidates more wisely based on what they have actually done. Goodluck added between 1500-2000MW of power to the national grid.. Buhari took glory for it despite not adding even 1 MW of power. |
From 6000MW under Jonathan/PDP Government down to 750MW under Buhari/APC. Sai Baba! APC Change!! I thought they said Fashola is good enough to handle power, Is he still the minister of power. Power generation dropped by 759.1 megawatts on Wednesday on the back of losses recorded by Egbin, Afam VI and other generation plants. Electricity generation had on Tuesday risen to 4,368.5MW from 3,548.7MW on Monday. But it dropped to 3,629.4MW on Wednesday, reports say. Generation from Egbin, which is located in Lagos, was limited to 912MW on Wednesday, down from 1,085MW the previous day, due to gas constraints. In Shell’s Afam VI power plant in Rivers State, which generated 524MW on Tuesday, it saw the level falling to zero on Wednesday. Its four units were said to be out due to defective gas compressors. The Sapele power plant did not generate electricity on Wednesday, compared to the 40MW it produced the previous day. Other plants whose generation fell included Omotosho, Olorunsogo, Geregu NIPP, Odukpani NIPP and the Ibom power plant. http://dailypost.ng/2016/03/17/another-nationwide-blackout-looms-as-power-generation-drops-by-759mw-in-24-hours/?utm_source=nnd&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=nnd |
Court ordered them out of Rivers but the zombie soldiers decided to disobey court order like their ineffectual giraffe in Aso rock. why am I not moved at all |
Letter of credence or condemnation What an irony. We are dying of hunger, fuel scarcity, reinvigorated Fulani onslaught, power failure, comatose economy, padded budget, unprecedented road accidents, gagging of the judiciary, witch-hunting of percived opposition etc.. They should first visit mile 12 residents and Agatu villagers before dishing any hypocritical letter of credence to the ineffectual giraffe |
Hold Buhari responsible. The dullard is a seasoned herdsman |
Rush down to the Sanusi's or emir of Bugudu palace before they man-handle and impregnate her. Shameless virgin seekers can no longer wait for their promised imaginary virgins in paradise. |
