I started on freelancer today and got my first job with my first bid.

To be candid with you, there is no barrier for entering the market as a new freelancer, even if you are from Nigeria.

Forget about what some people will tell you that being from Nigeria or Africa might limit your chances. In as much as you know what you are doing, you can survive on any freelancing platform.

Last semester, I started on Upwork, immediately I resumes school. Today, I've earned more than a thousand dollar.

This is not to boast, though. I am only chipping this in for those who are still doubting the system. Thanks to people like theladywriter. If more people are like her in nigeria, I.e. not selfish, we won't ever be suffering in Nigeria.

As my own token, I will be sharing some tips that will help you win bids and do better on freelancer or Upwork.

Again, I am not an expert, nor I'm I trying to promote myself. This observation is just to let the skeptic get to action.

Freelance sites started especially for small business owners who are looking for technical-skilled talent on a short term basis; essentially Programmers and the like.
It is a competitive marketplace. You and 100,000 other people are bidding on the same jobs believe it or not. Some guy in India or Bangladesh is going to do the same job you would charge $250 for $50.
Secondly, how much $$$ is enough? $500, or $1000 or $3000 or $10,000 per month. That one is based on your personal desire...
Repeat customers can't have enough work for you if your target is $2,$3 or $5k per month. You always have to be looking for new customers/jobs. Remember, these are small businesses who can't hire fulltime staff and pay them hourly to sit at a desk in their offices, that's why they've come online to find temp workers.
And freelancing is not a consistent "job". You can have dry spells, so you have to make as much as possible while you can. You can make $500 this week and absolutely $0 next week.
I have been on the $49.95 for a very long time, any lower plan will amount to me paying 10% of my earnings per month in project commissions. So If I've made $500 or $1000 or $2000 or higher. Then I will have paid Freelancer $50 / $100 / $200 or more.
I'd rather pay the $49.95 and give them 5% commission....
It used to be $24.95 until two years ago they woke up one morning and decided to hike the price by 100%.

I pray all our dreams become a reality this year. So I've been enjoying a privilege since last year and I just thought I'd share it here.
I've been working with www.blogoxygen.com for a while now (I know some of us here work with them too) and I must say they are one of the best writing and content management firms online (as far as I know). Every time my projects outweigh my time schedule, I just send them a mail and their delivery is always top notch but that's by the way. I found out they have an Android app on Google playstore and I just downloaded it since it was around 2MB and my world, I'll sincerely suggest serious writers download the app. I'm not marketing for them, as you can download, read the articles and delete it but try to read the articles. Whoever wrote them is a superbly prolific communicator. I'm an information junkie, hence the way I sound. Just search for BLOGOXYGEN on Google playstore and make sure you read the articles. (My personal favourite is "HOW TO OVERCOME WRITER'S BLOCK" ).

If there's any writer here who's used the app, pls second me here.

I said I was going to share a testimony; I've not forgotten, I'm just waiting for when I'll be free to detail it out. Thanks y'all.

158 bids no bad o. Sometimes I don't even use up to 10 cos most of my clients always rehire me. If you bid properly and tactically, it will be enough for you cos you won't have to waste your bids unnecessarily. Sometimes, I receive over 20 bids per month as bonuses but I no sabi how that one dey take come o. E be like say e follow join for the Plus package but I'm not sure.

Bottom line is, bid properly (as already explained here) so you don't waste bids, keep good customer relationships with your clients so they can always rehire you (I have all my past and current clients' WhatsApp and email contacts and we chat on a daily basis). If you follow these steps, 158 bids will be more than enough for you as a small writer!

From my observation, na those big writing agencies and other big establishments for FL dey use big membership plans.
