Nairaland / General / Barr Richard Agu Canvasses For Positive, Impactful Leadership For Ohaneze Ndigbo by Mokwugwo1975: 11:46am On May 03, 2023
Barr Richard Agu Canvasses for Positive, Impactful Leadership for Ohaneze Ndigbo

By Eche Nwobasi, Nnewi

As Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide kick-starts new era under the headship of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a prominent lawyer, Richard Agu, has canvassed for a positive and impactful leadership for the Igbo apex body on affairs concerning Igbo interest.

In a lecture at Abacha community, Idemili North LGA Anambra state, on Sunday, April 30, titled "Akuruoulo: Ohaneze and Igbo Governors: Time for Paradigm Shift," the legal practitioner said that the Ohaneze Ndigbo ought to be the supreme head of the Igbo nation, which he said, should act as catalyst for enhancement of development in the entire Igbo nation.

The legal practitioner also said that beyond advocacy, Ohaneze should be made to be intentional, deliberate and focused in the process of fashioning the fresh method of engagements for the Igbo people; adding that the leadership should be seen to be independent and selfless to be able to take up this leadership roles.

Agu said, “The leadership of Ohaneze must be independent, and should be able to curry the confidence of the Igbo people. Ohaneze must be weaned off the Igbo political class, especially the governors, for them to thrive. The Ohaneze leadership should draw its power from the people. The trinity of Igbo industriousness from Ogbete to Ogige Nsukka, Abakaliki to Owerri Eke Onunwa, Asaba to Warri, Benin to Ijebu Ode, Umuahia to Ikot Ekpene markets, etc should be included, harnessed and strengthened, as their inclusion will enhance the efficacy of Ohaneze."

Speaking on what he called Think Home Philosophy (Akuruo-Ulo) for Igbo people, Agu noted the importance of every Igbo man or woman in diaspora to key into the philosophy.

He urged the Ohaneze leadership to champion the philosophy of the totality of wealth to get home with a superintendent of Oha na Ndi Eze operating under the ambit of Igbo governors.

He said, “Akuruo-Ulo, in the instance, is a directive that a certain percentage of wealth of every Igbo man or Igbo woman should reach home. It must get to the source - it must get home. This can be made possible if Ohaneze does its job properly, and keeps the Igbo governors in check. This idea becomes very pertinent because, most of our hosts are no longer very hospitable.”

He also slammed the five Southeast governors, who he said, have not done enough to develop the zone.

He contended that even with the quantum of resources at the disposal the governors, their performances put together, can hardly compare the wonderful performances of former leaders like Sam Mbakwe and Chief Jim Nwobodo, etc, who he said achieved much in their times despite lean resources at their disposal.

Madubuko Introduces New Model Hospitality; Builds Exclusive Residence In Nnewi

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Nnewi

A new dawn has come into Nnewi, the industrial city of Anambra state, with the inauguration of newly constructed exclusive five-star guest residence in the area.

A native of Uru in Umudim, Nnewi North local government area of Anambra state, Prof.Victor Madubuko, who is a human resource manager and consultant, and teacher at Yeshiva University, New York, United States, opened The Moonshine Residence, which is a complete departure from hotels seen everyday.

The official unveiling ceremony held at No. 1 Madubuko Street, Uru-Umudim, Nnewi, was held on Sunday, April 23, by the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe (Dr) Kenneth Orizu III, after a prayer by a Catholic priest.

The facility provides Concierge, Room service, Outdoor pool, Game room, Gym, 24-hour security, Laundry service, Wifi, Onsite parking, Private event venue, Business Center, 24-hour power and water supply, Restaurant, and many more.

During the ceremony, the proprietor, Prof. Madubuko, said that the aim of establishing the place is to have a facility that will provide all the comforts of a home - a unique home, which is different from a hotel.

"My vision is to create a kind of residence that has the uniqueness of a hotel in terms of comfort; so that families will come, feel comfortable and also have facilities for their children to play.

"Even if guests are coming from big cities or
overseas, they will stay here and enjoy the same facility, comfort and standard of living as they would enjoy abroad.

"Whether you are visiting Nigeria or the Southeast for business or holidays, planning a staycation with family or friends, hosting an all-inclusive event, or looking for unique hospitality experience, the Moonshine Residence apartments are perfect for a restful, and fun stay," he explained.

He also said that the facility has created employment opportunities for tens of people in the area; adding that 98% of equipment and materials used for the construction of the place is sourced locally.

He also said that the facility has service apartment where people stay, do their businesses and leave; as well as apartment hotel, where guests will stay and have a feel of a home with facilities like standard kitchen, parlour, 2 big bedrooms, conveniences, among other things.

"When you stay here, even though you have a kitchen in your apartment, if you didn't want to cook yourself, we can provide food for you. All the apartments have telephones lines - you can call, and we'll provide whatever you want. The reason is that we'd want you to stay for days and weeks without having the feeling or need to go out.

"This place differs significantly from a hotel, in the sense that Moonshine Residence is not open to the general public to just come in or go out, except when one has accommodation or has business to do here," he noted; adding that the management takes the security of guests seriously, and therefore, is working in partnership with police and local vigilante to provide adequate security.

According to him, there are four types of residence in The Moonshine Residence, depending on the cost and types of facilities provided in each. He also said that sporting facility provided therein would serve as recreational, fitness and training facilities for guests and playground for kids.

Politics / Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Gifts 10,000 Tricycles, Motorcycles, To Anambra Voters by Mokwugwo1975: 2:26pm On Mar 26, 2023
Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Gifts 10,000 Tricycles, Motorcycles, to Anambra Voters

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The senator representing Anambra South senatorial district, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, has distributed gift items to over ten thousand members of his constituency.

The senator distributed the items on Saturday, March 25, during a ceremony organized in Nnewi, to thank members of his senatorial district for their support for him and other YPP candidates in Anambra during the February 25th, and March 18th, 2023 general elections.

Among other items, he distributed tricycles, motorcycles, grinding machines, sewing machines, power generating sets, gas cylinders, bags of rice, standing fans, among other things.

Our correspondent recalls that Senator Ubah got 73,115 votes to win his re-election on February 25th; while his closest opponent, Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), came second with 45,369; while the Labour Party ( LP) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidates trailed behind with 28,102 and 21,209 votes, respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Ubah thanked the people for standing behind him during his campaigns and election.

He said, "This event is organized to thank people of my senatorial zone for their massive support during my campaigns, and for standing behind me during the February 25th election. It was because of the love you have for me that you did not allow me to be consumed in the tsunami of the OBIdient Movement that returned majority of Labour Party (LP) candidates.

"It is because of the trust you have for me that I stand here before you as the only sitting national assembly member from Anambra state that will be going back to Abuja. It is because of the goodwill I enjoy among you that you elect me as the first senator from Nnewi zone to win his second term bid. I am, indeed, grateful.

"I worked for you during my first term, and you rewarded me by re-electing me. This time around, I will work even harder to justify the trust you repose in me."

The member-elect for Nnewi North State Constituency, Sir Augustine Onyedikachukwu Ike, said the ceremony was a reward system that bonds the party and its supporters.

Ike said, "This is part of our usual 'Thank You' tour of Anambra South senatorial district, when we thank our supporters. The essence is to let the world know that YPP is the only political party that has a reward pattern - reward pattern in the sense that we reinforce our voters.

"You support us during our elections, and we're back to thank you - not that you voted us and we run away. We get in touch with the grassroots as part of our political culture, and political behavior. So, the essence of this is to tell you that there's need to keep faith with YPP. If for any reason any of you has not supported us in the past, try to do so in future elections; because, YPP has come to stay."

The Director General of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah Campaign Organization, Mr. Vin Onyeka, said it was because of the enormous work done by Senator Ubah that he was massively supported by the people during his second term bid.

He said, "It was because of the goodwill he enjoys among our people that he was re-elected. When you work for your people, they will continue to support you. Anambra South senatorial district hired Senator Ubah, he delivered; this is why they re-elected him."

He urged the people to continue their support for Senator Ubah, while assuring them of good and robust representation.

Earlier, the chairman of YPP in Anambra state, Prince Moses Obi, thanked the people for supporting his party to win Anambra South senatorial seat; as well as Anambra Nnewi North, Nnewi South 1, and Nnewi South 2 state constituencies.

While expressing the hope that the party would continue to move to higher pedestal, he assured that those elected under the YPP platform would do the people proud.

Many who beneficiaries, who spoke to newsmen during the event, thanked Senator Ubah and YPP for empowering them, and assured of their continued support.

Politics / Ohaneze Rejects Inec's Declaration Of Tinubu As President-elect by Mokwugwo1975: 7:50am On Mar 02, 2023
Ohaneze Rejects INEC's Declaration of Tinubu As President-Elect

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, has rejected the declaration of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Ahmed Bola Tinubu, as president-elect, and further called on the international community to sanction the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other corrupt Nigerian politicians that allegedly corroborate with the electoral umpire to "rig" the February 25, 2023 general elections.

The National Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ichie Damian Okeke Ogene, made the call on Wednesday, March 1, in Awka, Anambra state, in an exclusive chat with our correspondent.

The Ohaneze chieftain also told the international community that in addition to sending observers to Nigeria during the elections, it should also sanction those who undermine democracy in the country through perpetration of monumental irregularities, and failing to follow constitutional guidelines in conducting the elections.

He said: "With voting and declaration over, other processes will follow. I am sure that many Nigerians will, on their own, go to court to challenge the outcome of the exercise. Many people have not accepted the declaration, and many do not believe that they have a president-elect yet.

"This is the worst election conducted by INEC in Nigeria. Imagine President Muhammadu Buhari saying during one of the campaigns that Tinubu is the next president of Nigeria, at a time the election had not been conducted; which was an indication that the election was even rigged before it was conducted.

"The INEC chairman was busy promising Nigerians that their votes would count, and that the votes would be transmitted from the polling units to INEC server, only for the commission to do everything manually with the attendant corrupt practices.

"As it turned out, many Nigerians voted, but their votes did not count, which was frustrating. If the LP goes to court, all the ugly things done during the February 25, 2023 presidential election will be exposed for the world to see."

Ogene said further that the LP and its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, had changed the political configuration of the country, adding that things would never be the same again.

Ogene said, "Nigerians are now more determined to take back their country, and Ohaneze believes that they will succeed. With what happened in states like Lagos, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna and other places, it is obvious that Nigerians are no longer talking along tribal inclinations."

2023 Elections: Anambra NUJ Sends Strong Message To Politicians, Voters

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), has praised candidates of different political parties gunning for different elective positions for the 2023 general elections for their display of maturity in addressing issues, as against name-calling and intimidation of opponents.

This is contained in a communiqué issued by the Anambra state council of the union led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu (PhD), at the end of its monthly congress on Thursday, at the Godwin Ezeemo international press center, NUJ secretariat, Awka, Anambra state.

The council also informed the electorate that the February 25 and March 11, 2023 elections are history beckoning, hence, they should tow the part of peace and ensure that hitch free election holds across the country.

It also urged the youths to shun all vices and violence associated with politics, and to use their votes to ensure that credible leadership is enthroned .

The union, which also decried Naira note scarcity and high cost of petroleum products, which have translated into high cost of transportation, and high cost of living, urged urgent government intervention because of potential danger they pose to the society.

It said, "President Mohammadu Buhari led federal government, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) should restore normalcy, and make petroleum products available, and at affordable prices before the presidential polls.

"It is also worrisome that citizens have monies in their various bank accounts; but do not have access to their funds in the financial institutions, Points of Services (POS), and ATMs. So, we use this medium to call on relevant authorities to reverse the situation in order to ameliorate people's suffering."

While commending the Anambra state government under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for massive interventions in roads across the state, the union also called on the state government to do well to offset arrears of Leave Allowances owed some ministries and parastatals.

Anambra Community Holds Solidarity March For Peter Obi Ahead Of Elections

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Ifitedunu community in Dunukofia local government area of Anambra state, on Thursday, February 23, held a solidarity march for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr Peter Obi, ahead of the February 25 the presidential election.

The solidarity March was organized by the Director of Administration, Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Arch Mike Ikemefuna Nwafor; with the Head of General Duties, Obi/Datti presidential campaign council, Dr. Francis Asokwu Sea.

The march was attended by youths, women and elderly people, who chanted pro-Obi songs. The people also displayed posters bearing Peter Obi's images, and those of other LP candidates for the elections. They also distributed fliers and other campaign materials to townspeople as they marched.

Speaking during the march, Arch Mike Nwafor, said that Peter Obi is better positioned to win the 2023 presidential election.

He said that in terms of character, competence credibility, and integrity, the Labour Party candidate has no equal.

Nwafor maintained further that Peter Obi and LP would covet at least, 90% of total votes cast in the Southeast. He also said that Anambra would deliver nothing below 1.8 million votes to Peter Obi and Labour Party; adding that anytime polls are conducted anywhere in the Southeast, at least, 95% of respondents will tip Peter Obi as their choice candidate.

He also gave reasons why Labour Party and Peter Obi do not politics of money. He said that when you give money to someone that wants to employ you, there is every tendency that you will lose track of the work you come to do, and probably go stealing to recover what you spent while looking for the job.

He said, "We don't share money because, we believe that the concept of sharing money to win elective position is stupid. When you give money to someone that wants to engage you, there is every tendency that you will lose track of the work you come to do, and probably go stealing to recover what you spend while looking for the job.

"What LP is bringing on the table is new approach to politics in Nigeria. One of the legacies of the LP presidential candidate is that he has redefined politics in Nigeria - this is one of his legacies.

"Before now, Nigeria has made politics synonymous with money. This is why when a politician goes into office, his main mission is how to accumulate wealth. In the past, they will tell you that even a goat with pool of money can win presidency in Nigeria. But today, Peter Obi has made everybody understand that what can make someone win election is competence, credibility, integrity and good records."

Speaking, the Head of General Duties, Obi/Datti presidential campaign council, Dr. Francis Asokwu Sea, called on INEC to be a fair umpire, and ensure that it delivers to Nigerians very credible presidential election. He warned that anything short of free and fair election on February 25, would bring bad name to the commission, and likely set Nigeria into turmoil.

Earlier, during a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu, Igwe Peter Ilouno, the monarch described Peter Obi as the last hope for Nigeria, and called on Nigerians to leverage on the present opportunity to set the country on the right path.

2023: Mbakwe Has The Wand To Represent Anambra Central At The Senate - Uwaezuoke

Nigerian Movie star, Nze Stephen Anajemba aka Uwaezuoke yesterday asked indigenes and residents of Anambra Central Senatorial zone to ensure the candidate of New Nigeria People's Party , NNPP , Princess Bar Helen Ifeoma Mbakwe wins Saturday Senatorial election to represent the people of Anambra Central.

According to Comrade Anajemba as he prefers to be called , Princess Mbakwe remains the best among all the candidates aspiring to represent Anambra Central Senatorial zone and therefore should be voted in without further reservations.

He spoke at different fora during the campaign tour of Princess Mbakwe, urging all within voting age to ensure Princess Mbakwe is elected as senator of the federal Republic as she is going to serve with equity, fairness and justice.

This is coming as the Senatorial candidate of New Nigeria People's Party, NNPP, for the 2023 Anambra Central Senatorial Election, Princess Barr. Mrs. Helen Ifeoma Mbakwe reiterated that she remains the best to serve Anambra central Senatorial zone , pleading that electorates deemphasize money politics and vote her for capacity and excellence.

Speaking during the De MACE Debate Anambra Political Dialogue organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Anambra State Council led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD and her partners, RATTAWU, SEJUP and Bring it on Africa, Princess Barr. Furthermore, she said that being in the red chamber or part of the National Assembly is not just only for bringing out new bills or sponsoring new bills but we need to make sure the available bills/ laws work and to know why are we not abiding by our laws. If the laws are working we can arrest bribery and corruption in Nigeria but when those laws are not working and we keep on sponsoring new bills, it will not add any value to the nation.

She said that the most important thing is to make sure she's always at the plenary of the senate, making sure that she's always there to represent, to give the people effective representation, to always be at the town hall meetings, to seek what the people want, and that she has taken time to study the people and found out that the people are passing through hunger and the lack of government in the personal welfare of the people. .

She said further that she will ensure that the schools from Nursery, Primary, and secondary schools would be centralized to bring a comfortable environment and to add positive impacts that will make our district different, make sure that mechanized machines would be brought out to the subsistence and commercial farmers to make the farm more produce from their farms and many more.

The candidate of the New Nigeria people's Party throws very powerful points that touched the heart of the good people of Anambra Central to see that the New Nigeria we are hoping for is here and the only option or way to get it to us is to vote her in to the senate.

Crime / Building Materials Market, Ogidi, Denies Killing Suspected Criminal In Anambra by Mokwugwo1975: 6:27pm On Feb 16, 2023
Building Materials Market, Ogidi, Denies Killing Suspected Criminal In Anambra

By Our Reporter

Chairman, Building Materials International Market,Ogidi, Anambra State, Chief Jude Nwankwo has said that no trader from the market was involved in the purported setting ablaze of   a suspected criminal last Sunday along Enugu/Onitsha Express Road, Ogidi.

The incident was said to have taken place on Sunday while the victim was  allegedly attempting to snatch a woman's  hand bag along the area.

According to the market boss, "the incident  took place last Sunday and not on Monday as was reported in a section of the  media."

"So anybody or group of people insinuating that the incident took place on Monday  is being economical with the truth".

He argued that the incident which happened along Enugu/Onitsha Express Road on Sunday was believed to be as a result of bottled up anger among residents of the area as there have been reported incidences of violent crimes by hoodlums in the area.

"Even as the traders condemn jungle justice out of respect for sanctity of life people should carry out proper investigation before going public".

While stating that it was not  only building materials market that is sited in the area, Chief Nwankwo posited  that some mischief makers must have been responsible for singling out building materials market as a centre of attraction.

When our correspondent visited the market (Tuesday) it was , however, discovered that the incident took place last Sunday while the killing of the suspected criminal was said to have been carried out by hoodlums and other concerned passersby in the area.
Politics / 2023 Election: Without Your Pvcs, You're Enemy To Nigeria - Rev. Nwachukwu by Mokwugwo1975: 8:03am On Feb 15, 2023
2023 Election: Without Your PVCs, You're Enemy To Nigeria - Rev. Nwachukwu

The Senior Pastor of the Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Rev. Dr Jerry Nwachukwu, has declared that any Nigerian, 18 years and above, who has no permanent voters cards, is an enemy of the country.

He made the assertion yesterday, during a special service in his church located at No.19 Ezendu Street, off Mercedes Avenue, Nkpor, in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state.

Nwachukwu noted that PVC makes man an opinion member of the society, and an agent of transportation, change and good governance; adding that if one does not have PVC, he has no right to complain about bad governance.

He said, "Permanent Voters Card makes you an opinion member, and agent of transportation, change and good governance. If you are out there, and you have no PVC, you have no right to complain against bad governance; because, you did not play any role for the right person to emerge as leader.

"One vote counts, and those who have no PVCs, I see them as enemies, because, they cannot contribute to good governance. So, right there, if you do not have yours that qualifies you to vote on election day, you are part of the problems that stops the country from moving forward.

"As a leader, I do not have trust on any of my followers that do not contribute to liberate people from bad governance. And there is no way you can make any meaningful contributions if you do not vote on the election day. Prayer and fasting are good; but they cannot give victory to your choice candidate. INEC does not count prayer points, they count votes."

Pastor Nwachukwu also encouraged Nigerians to exercise patience in the face of the present economic and social realities occasioned by naira note shortage and scarcity of petroleum products.

He suggested that since the present realities are artificial and man-made, Nigerians should elect a credible leadership that can remove the country and its people from the woods.

He said, "Don't vote for anybody that is part of the problem Nigerians are going through now. Do not disrupt the elections. Do not carry up arms to protest; rather, take your protest to the polling boot on February 25, and elect a president that will put smile on the faces of Nigerians; not people that will increase our woes."

Soludo Gives Marching Order To Anaku Youths Over Abducted Soldier, Stolen Raffle

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra state has directed youths in the troubled Anaku community, in Ayamelum local government area of the state, to release a soldier they abducted, and return his gun taken by the decadent youths.

This was disclosed by the transition committee chairman of Ayamelum local government area,Chief Livinus Onyenwe, during a chat with our correspondent yesterday.

According to him, the governor also directed law enforcement agencies in the state, including the police, army, DSS, Civil Defense and others to do everything within their constitutional powers to ensure that the soldier is rescued, and his raffle returned.

The governor, who recalled with dismay how youths of Anaku community, led by one Nnamdi Maneke, aka Vulture, and his gang invaded Omor, a neighbouring town, on Monday, February 6, and shot at people, killing at least, 8 persons, and abducted about 6 others, said such dastardly act cannot continue under his watch.

He recalled that security operatives, including soldiers, were deployed to restore peace to the area, and instead of embracing peace, youths of the town engaged the soldiers, and went ahead to abduct a soldier and his gun taken away.

According to the governor, security operatives would remain in the town, combing the ground until the perpetrators are tracked down, and dealt with, according to the law.

He said that the soldiers had very serious gun battle with the decadent youths; and in the process, a soldier was abducted, and his gun taken away. He also informed that in retaliation, the soldiers pulled down the house of the gang leader, Nnamdi Maneke, as well as some other youths suspected to belong to the deadly gang.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its determination to arrest the hoodlums and make them to face the law.

Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ikenga Tochukwu, the command said it is not only striving to rescue the security personnel and recover his arms, but would also arrest the perpetrators, and restore sanity to the troubled areas.

Nigeria under siege; needs special intervention - YPP NASS candidate, Uyammadu

Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) for Awka North and Awka South federal constituency in Anambra state, in the 2023 general election, Chief Kingsley Chukwudozie Uyammadu, has said that Nigeria is currently under serious siege, and requires very serious intervention to save it from total collapse.

Uyammadu said that the 2023 general elections will provide the country with rare opportunity to get things right, by electing good leaders with capacity, character, competence and compassion; adding that if the opportunity is missed, the country might be heading for total collapse.

He made the assertion yesterday, while addressing members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra state council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, NUJ Secretariat, Awka, Anambra state.

Flanked by members of his campaign team, the House of Representatives hopeful, observed that what kept Nigeria down was the insensitivity of political leadership.

He said, "Representation is about good leadership. Majority of the people in elective positions do not have what it takes to represent the people. Majority of them do not have the interest of the people at heart. This is why the country is presently under siege.

"Legislation needs people, who understand what law-making entails. People that feel the pains of citizens should be elected to occupy political and leadership positions. This is why people like us leave our exalted businesses to contest this position, and bring good governance down to our people."

Uyammadu, who said that journalists have big roles to play in promoting good governance, urged media practitioners to use their powers as watchdogs to promote people with requisite leadership qualities, and market them to the electorate.

He promised that if elected, he would champion legislative framework that would promote good governance, and quality life for Nigerian people. He also regretted that for the past 20 years, people of Awka North where he comes from, have not represented the federal constituency in the House of Representatives, and urged the people to observe equity, justice and fair play in sharing political offices in the constituency.

Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of NUJ, Anambra state council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, described Uyammadu as a quality material for political representation; because of his proven integrity in leadership positions. He also assured him that the council would ensure that it remains fair to all political parties and candidates involved in the electoral process.

2023: LP Sensitizing Masses to cub voter apathy in Southeast - Dr. Okwenna

As the 2023 general elections are few weeks away, the Labour Party (LP) has said it is mobilizing to ensure that there is no voter apathy in the Southeast as feared by many.

The party said it is making special interventions, not only in making sure that registered voters in the region get their PVCs ahead of the polls; but also in many other areas that would boost voter interest in the region because of the strategic nature of the 2023 general election.

The Head, Intervention Team of the Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council of Labour party, Dr. Ifedi Okwenna, gave the indication yesterday in Awka, Anambra state capital, during a special meeting with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, led by its chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, NUJ Secretariat, Awka.

He said, "We at the LP are making every necessary efforts to achieve good results at the polls. This is because, it will be wrong for other Nigerians to be lending their support to Peter Obi, while the Southeast will be found wanting, by not voting massively for the LP presidential candidate. We are traversing all the nooks and crannies; we have suspended sleep; we have suspended rest to achieve this, and we are not relenting. In the next three weeks, presidential election will hold, and Nigerians will elect a president after their own heart.

"Nigerians need president with capacity, character, compassion, and who has the willpower to turn things around for the better, and the answer is in Peter Obi. Obi is one person among his contemporaries that can help Nigerians take back their country, and move it forward."

Flanked by the Coordinator, Diaspora Intervention for Obi/Datti presidential campaign council, Barr Franklin Nwakor, Okwenna, Okwenna also noted with regret that since the inception of the present democratic dispensation which started in 1999, the Southeast is yet to produce number one citizen of the country; while other zones have taken their turns at different times.

"By May, 2023, the North where Atiku and Kwankwaso are coming from shall have produced a president for about 10 years under Musa Yar'Adua and Mohammadu Buhari, as well as vice president for 6 years under Namadi Sambo.

"Southwest where Tinubu comes from, has produced a president and vice for 16 years in the last 20 years; under Olusegun Obasanjo and Yemi Osinbajo. The South-South has equally produced president for six years, and a vice president for two years within the same period, under Goodluck Jonathan. The Southeast remains the only zone in Southern Nigeria yet to produce president for this country in the present democratic dispensation and, of course, since the end of the civil war in 1970," he submitted.

Earlier, the Chairman NUJ Anambra, State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD thanked Dr Ifedi Okwenna and his team for considering NUJ Anambra Council as one of the first to visit in the Southeast, and assured that their message of hope shall be spread to Ndigbo to ensure that voter apathy is curbed.

Nnewi Community Protests Bad Roads; Seek Govt Attention

Indigenes of Uruagu-Nnewi community in Nnewi North local government area of Anambra state, yesterday, took to the streets to protest alleged dilapidated road infrastructure in the area.

The protesters, who were majorly youths and elderly men, displayed placards bearing different inscriptions depicting their annoyance over alleged neglect of roads in the area.

Some of the placards read: "Nnewi community has suffered a lot due to bad road network;" "kidnaping and robbery are rampant in our community as a result of bad roads;" "Buhari, Governor Soludo, please, come to our help;" "Religious leaders and prominent people in our community should not be silent on the state of our roads;" among other things.

Leader of the protesters, Mr. Obiora Okeke, said that several roads in the area, especially the Nnewi-Oba old road, and St. John of the Cross Catholic Church axis in particular, has become a death trap that has consumed a lot of people in the recent past.

He said, "Several roads in Nnewi, the commercial nerve center of Anambra state, and the supposed Japan of Africa, have become ghosts of their own selves. Majority of the roads are completely dilapidated and in states of disrepair.

"Vehicles no longer ply most of the roads in Nnewi. In rainy seasons, traders from outside Nnewi hardly come here to transact businesses because of bad roads. Vehicles that dare come in rainy seasons hardly go back the same way they come.

"The worst aspect is that armed robbers and kidnappers take advantage of bad roads in the commercial city to unleash mayhem on members of the public, especially strangers. We've recorded many kidnap and robbery cases on these bad spots. The other day, a woman and two young men were halted and kidnapped in front of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Nnewi, because of bad road."

Okeke, who noted that majority of the bad roads are federal government roads, urged concerned authorities to do necessary interventions on the said roads, in order to avert further calamities.

Youth leader of Uruagu-Nnewi community, Hon. Ejike Ifejiofor, on his own, called on government, church authorities and prominent people in the community to intervene on the state of roads in the area.

Another indigene of the community, Marcel Ifeachor, called on the senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator (Dr.) Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah; the member representing Nnewi North and Nnewi South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu; who are both indigenes of Nnewi, to attract federal presence to the roads.

He also called on billionaire industrialists such as Dr. Innocent Chukwuma (INNOSON); Dr. Cletus Ibeto of the Ibeto Group; Dr. Chika Okafor (Chikason); Dr Chosmas Maduka (Choscharis); as well as Dr. Ajulu Uzodike (Cutix cables), among others, who are indigenes of Nnewi to do something fast about the state of roads in the community.

According to him, "Any community having these caliber of men as its sons should not be complaining about bad roads."

Politics / 2023: I'll Pursue Legislation For Slashing Of Cost Of Governance by Mokwugwo1975: 11:46am On Feb 05, 2023
2023: I'll pursue legislation for slashing of politicians' pay, cost of governance - Princes Mbakwe

Senatorial candidate of the New Nigerian People's People's Party (NNPP) for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Princess Helen Mbakwe (Esq), has averred that the cost of governance in Nigeria is too high for a country owing over N44 trillion in debt.

Mbakwe stated this yesterday , during a parley with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State council led by it's state Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center, NUJ Secretariat, Awka.

Mbakwe suggested that the best bet for a country with such debt problem as Nigeria is to cut to the cost of governance, and reduce salaries and entitlements of political office holders, so that funds will be available for other infrastructural developments.

She said, "Part of what we want to do in the Senate is to ensure that Nigeria cuts the cost of governance, by ensuring that what elected politicians take home as salaries and other entitlements are reduced drastically.

"With the country owing over N44 trillion in debt, there is no reason it should be extravagant in spending and consumption, without corresponding efforts to save for other infrastructural interventions."

She also suggested that politicians seeking multiple tenures at the national assembly are covetous, and should not be encouraged. According to her, single tenure of 4 years is enough for a good politician to achieve her goals, then, hand over baton to another person with fresh ideas.

She also promised that as a senator, she would ensure that the three arms of government - the executive, the legislature and the judiciary, hold hands together to promote good governance.

She said, "I come out to contest because I believe that beyond 2023, there will be a new Nigeria and a new Anambra Central, where things will work well for the best interest of all Nigerians. Nigeria needs special intervention. The country need something new and beautiful.

"Come February 25, Anambra Central will take bold step in electing a senator that will help salvage the zone and the country; and that is what I'm out to do. I have fresh ideas and new plans for us. While we make frantic efforts to elect the best president for Nigeria; senators like us will be at the national assembly supporting the president with good laws that will move the country forward."

She said that she remains the best candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District because of her background in the law profession, and international contacts.

She summarized her 5 - point agenda in the acronym, SAFER, which include Security, Aspiration, Food (agriculture), Employment and Resolute representation.

She said that as a lawmaker, she would not only pursue legislation that would bring her agenda to life; but would also attract necessary agencies, government bodies and organizations that will help bring them to fruition for the betterment of her senatorial zone in particular, and Nigeria in general.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, encouraged electorates to go for their PVCs and ensure that they are part of making a new Nigeria possible.

Comrade Odogwu commended Princess Helen Mbakwe for her civility in the conduct of her campaigns, and wished her well in her ambition. He informed that NUJ is an unbiased umpire in the electoral processes, and would not hesitate to shout should anything go untoward, adding that a free and fair election is what everyone is praying for.

2023: I Saw Hands Unveiling Labour Party Banners In Many States - Rev. Nwachukwu

As the 2023 general elections draw closer, a powerful cleric, Rev. Jerry Nwachukwu, has said that in the spiritual realm, he saw hands unveiling Labour Party banners in many states of Nigeria.

In a chat with newsmen on Sunday, January 29, Rev. Nwachukwu, who is the Senior Pastor of the Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Nkpor, Idemili North local government area of Anambra state, noted that that the LP will make big impact in the coming elections.

Legit.ng's regional reporter in Anambra, Mokwugwo Solomon, also quoted Rev. Nwachukwu as saying that there will be waves that will make or mar many politicians, and that the wave will introduce the messiah that Nigeria and Nigerians have long sought for.

He said, "In the February 25, 2023 general election, I see people working unknowingly for the victory of the LP. They will do what they do not suppose to do, and say what they do not suppose to say; which will ultimately be to the advantage of the LP."

He advised the 18 political parties in the contest, particularly Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to accept whatever that will be the outcome of the 2023 elections, because, according to him, there will be surprises; and those that moved before God Almighty to say that the LP candidate will not win will be shamed.

He also cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to shift the 2023 general elections; noting that there are no justifiable reasons why elections will not hold as scheduled.

On the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Rev. Nwachukwu, warned Southeast governors and politicians not to use his ordeal to play politics.

He observed that many politicians in the Southeast, who left Kanu to his own fate before now, have turned into praise-singers for the IPOB leader, with a view to currying favour to themselves and their political parties, etc.

Rev. Nwachukwu noted that Kanu's freedom is not in the hands of any political dispensation of administration; but in the hands of God, who will, at his own time, turn his situation around, and make him a hero.

He told Igbo politicians and stakeholders that what they should do is to make sincere appeal to, and negotiate with the federal authorities on how to appease the Biafran agitators.

2023 Prophesy: How World's Recent Happenings Vindicate Powerful Nigerian Pastor

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

A 72-seat Nepali passenger aircraft crashed into a gorge while landing at a newly opened airport in the central resort town of Pokhara on Sunday, January 15, 2023, killing at least 40 people.

The twin-engine ATR 72 aircraft operated by Nepal’s Yeti Airlines was carrying 68 passengers, including 15 foreign nationals, and four crew members. The foreigners included five Indians, four Russians, two South Koreans, and one each from Ireland, Australia, Argentina and France.

This is exactly 2 weeks that a powerful Nigerian pastor, Rev. Jerry Nwachukwu, prophesied about the plane crash, and urged the world to pray fervently against it in 2023.

The Senior Pastor of the Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Nkpor, Idemili North local government area of Anambra State, Nigeria, Rev Jerry Nwachukwu, in his New Year prophetic declaration in the early hours of Sunday, January 1, 2023, warned of terrible plane crash. He also warned against earthquake in Japan. He also declared that America’s economy would drop; while China, according to him, would suffer because of their “wickedness.”

The cleric also predicted death of some prominent clergymen while calling for prayers of intercession so that the faithful do not lose much of their priests in 2023.

The killing of a Catholic priest in Niger State, Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi, also vindicated the cleric.

Terrorists, in the early hours of Sunday, January 15, burnt the Catholic priest alive at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kafin-Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Rev. Nwachukwu also prophesied about the 2023 general in Nigeria, where he predicted victory for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, during the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

He said that the presidential race would be mainly between Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC); but that Tinubu would not make it. He maintained that Nigerian youths would stand solidly behind the LP candidate; hinting that attempts to rig the poll cannot succeed. He also told his congregation to put down his prophecy on paper for the sake of record.

On Anambra State, Nigeria, Rev. Nwachukwu warned against plot by close allies of Governor Charles Soludo to undermine his government with their self-centred pieces of advice capable of derailing his administration’s developmental agenda; and urged prayers for the governor.

Nimo Town Union Suspends 3 Officers Over Alleged Attack On Traditional Ruler

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU), formerly known as Nimo Brotherhood Society (NBS), on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, suspended three officers over alleged verbal attack on the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Igwe Maxi Ike Oliobi.

The three officers include Hon. Tony Aniedobe, 1st National Vice President; Dr. Valentine Iyke Oliobi, 2nd National Vice President; and Mr. Uche Akpuoye, 3rd National Vice President.

The trio were accused of verbally attacking the traditional ruler continually in the town's WhatsApp platform; thereby, causing tension and disharmony, and inciting the townspeople against their monarch.

They were suspended during a meeting of Nimo General Assembly, where the community also elected Mr. Patrick Egbekpalu to fill the position of Secretary General, which was declared vacant.

Present at the deliberation were the traditional ruler of the town; Igwe Oliobi; the Traditional Prime Minister, members of the royal cabinet, among others.

President General of the community, Ekene Okafor Omabu, who read out the decision of the General Assembly after an extensive deliberation, said that the trio would remain suspended until the allegations levelled against them were fully investigated.

He said that if at the end of the day they were not found guilty, they would be called back to their positions; but if they were found guilty, the community would sanction them as necessary.

He contended that the suspension became necessary so that they would not influence the outcome of the investigation, if they remained in office.

In a swift reaction, the 2nd National Vice President of the NTDU, Dr. Oliobi, said that he because a target in the community because he contested Igweship election against the reigning monarch; and had continued to say the truth against the "evil forces," that held the community down over the years.

While denying all the allegations levelled against them, Dr. Oliobi insisted that the persons suspended from the town union executive were persons who say the truth.

He said that the town had been held down by land grabbers, those trampling on the rights of others in the community, and those who use their offices to grab and sell community lands, and refused to account for it. He said that their suspension was a planned deal to ensure that the three officers were out, so that they continue their corrupt practices.

They added that the award testifies that Dr. Umeadi's giant strides in human capital development do not go unnoticed.

"This shows that all his efforts in impacting positively in humanity were being taken note of; not withstanding that he has not been publicizing his good deeds," he added.

Ozumba further emphasized the new direction agenda of the Umeadi campaign council, which he explained, was to change to the direction of hope, prosperity and departure from the old way of doing things in the Nigerian politics.

Trouble In Onitsha Market As Patron, Others Accuse Chairman of Fraud; Chairman Alleges Suspension Of Patron

By Our Reporter

Serious trouble is brewing at the Onitsha Green Seed Market in Anambra State, as the Patron of the Market, Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi, accuses the caretaker chairman of the market association, Mr. Chijiike Okpala, and his predecessor, Hon. Charles Ikegwuonu, of embezzling several millions of naira belonging to the association.

In return, the duo of Chijiike Okpala and Charles Ikegwuonu claim that the patron of the market, Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi, stands suspended as patron of the market over alleged sabotage.

Following the purported suspension of Chief Ndubuisi as the Chief Patron, Mr.Christopher Chukwuka has subsequently been appointed as a replacement.

The market association also claimed that they suspended former vice chairman of the market association, Mr.Ogechukwu Nnajiofor. Mr. Nnajiofor served as Vice-Chairman under the administration of Hon.Charles Ikegwuonu, immediate past Caretaker Committee Chairman of the market.

The duo of Ndubuisi and Nnajiofor said that Chijiike Okpala was the Financial Secretary of the market association when Charles Ikegwuonu was chairman. They said that the two joined hands, and used their offices to embezzle the said money.

They claimed that money that accrued to the association between January, 2022 and May, 2022 was N13, 263,332. According to them, the two did not only mismanaged the money, but went ahead to leave a deficit of N6,200,000, which according to them, the two officers could not account for.

Ndubuisi and Nnajiofor also described their purported suspension and subsequent appointment of Mr.Chukwuka as a "huge drama".
They said it was laughable; saying that caretaker executive has no powers to remove or appoint.

The two, who spoke to newsmen in Onitsha, recently, said that the convention where their suspension was announced was pre-arranged as their supporters were not allowed to contribute to the debate.

They alleged that the market executive also used security operatives like soldiers, police and vigilante to intimidate their supporters; as they were prevented from contributing to the debate when the issue of their suspension was raised.

While insisting that a Caretaker administration has no powers to suspend or remove any officer from the market association, Chief Ndubuisi reiterated that the market constitution has no provision for caretaker administration, and as such, any major decision from the caretaker executive was not binding on the association.

The embattled Chief Patron said that what they were fighting for was transparency in leadership of the market.

He maintained that funds belonging to the association were yet to be accounted for as the statement of account rendered by the former chairman, Hon.Ikegwuonu, during his stewardship and subsequent removal by Anambra State Government on 28th April, 2022, did not reflect the realities on ground.

He accused Ikegwuonu of running a one-man administration, and did not carry other members of the executive along.

He revealed that Ikegwuonu was no longer the market chairman as at 28th April, 2022, but joined hands with the incumbent executive on certain issues because the former chairman played a role in bringing the present chairman, Mr.Chijioke Okpala, and members of his executive to office.

When our reporter contacted Hon. Ikegwuonu and the present chairman of the Grain Seeds Market, Mr.Okpala, they dismissed the allegations. They accused Chief Ndubuisi of wanting to cause crisis in the market.

The event organized by an Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ndigbo United Forum (NUF), was meant to showcase and promote Igbo language, culture and tradition, artistry, dress code, among other things.

The event, held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, attracted members of different socio-cultural organizations, community leaders, politicians, and people from different walks of life.

Speaking during the event, the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the NUF, Chief (Hon.) Dr. Chinedu Mba, said that the event was Organized to showcase the rich language, cultures and tradition of the Igbo people.

He disclosed that the maiden edition of the Ada Ndigbo cultural pageantry, held in 2021, was organized in Enugu State, before the second edition held in Anambra; adding that subsequent ones will be rotated among other Igbo speaking states.

According to him, over 50 aspirants from the 7 states picked interest forms to contest the exhaled office; from where the 12 contestants were shortlisted for the finals.

He said that among major things considered in the contest, besides physical beauty, include fluency and mastery of spoken and written Igbo language and proverbs, folklore, cultural norms, and the ability to dress appropriately in Igbo attire, among other considerations.

The President General of Ndigbo United Forum worldwide, Chief (Dr) Gabriel Ifeanyichukwu Iyoh, said that the event, besides helping to promote the people's language and culture, will also help unite the Igbo states, especially as the hosting rites will be rotated among the participating states.

Speaking, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, commended the group for the noble initiative geared towards checkmating the decline of Igbo language and tradition.

Represented by the state's Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Hon. Donatus Nduka Onyenji, the governor urged the group to extend the evangelization to schools, churches and homes, to help permeate the gospel of promoting the language in the psyche of the people.

Regretting that the use of Igbo language is truly declining by the day, Soludo encouraged parents and teachers to be in the forefront of the campaign by propagating the language in their children.

Former Nigeria's beauty queen, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, represented by the Secretary General of the Onitsha Main Market, Comrade Obijekwu Pat Ifediora, urged mothers never to play down on prioritizing the use of the language in bringing their children up; saying that failure to do so will be too detrimental to the household, and the larger society.

While crowning the new Ada Ndi Igbo cultural beauty queen, the outgoing Igbo cultural queen, Princess Eziamaka Ezeugwu, called on the new face of Igbo culture to be good ambassador of the Igbo people, and further urged her to use her good office to ensure that the language takes it's pride of place.

In her response, the new Ada Ndi Igbo, Ujunwa Anineji, promised to use her office to ensure that Igbo language, culture and ideals are promoted both within and outside the classroom. While praising the organizers for giving her the opportunity to express herself, she further assured that she would not disappoint in all the things expected of her as Ada Ndi Igbo.

Earlier, chairman of the occasion, Hon. (Sir) Pete Ibida, congratulated both the organizers and the new Ada Ndi Igbo, and assured them of his continued support.

Ibida, the Chief Whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly, and House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for Njikoka, Anocha and Dunukofia, urged the group to continue in their strides to redeem the very soul of Igbo language.

Cultural musics and entertainment by different band groups, including the Bright Chimezie Music Band, added colour to the event.

Nigeria's Seriously Sick, Needs Emergency Overhaul – Pentecostal Ministers

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Anambra Indigenous Pentecostal Ministers Association (AIPMA), an umbrella body of all Pentecostal ministers in Anambra State, has stated that Nigeria, as a nation, is seriously sick in every area, and requires immediate intervention to salvage it.

The group says the country has since lost its glory; and that the country and it's people have never being so divided, lopsided, disunited and unsafe in its journey of nationhood, as it is presently.

This is contained in a communiqué issued by the group on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at an International Prayer Conference held in Oraukwu, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The communiqué was signed by the group's chairman, Archbishop Mayor Mike Chukwudum; and it's Secretary, Rev. Dr. Chukwuemeka Okafor.

The association urged government and the country's political leaders to rise up to the challenge; in order to prevent the country from drifting further into a perilous state.

It says that Nigeria has sadly become one of the most terrorized states, which, according to them, caused majority of its citizens to lose faith in the country and its government.

It called on government to rise up to the occasion by recognizing the urgent need to rejig the country's security architecture, to protect its citizens.

"It is no longer safe to travel to any part of the country. It is equally no longer safe at home, schools, hospitals, markets and work places. Criminality, kidnappings, banditries, and all manner of blood wastage is booming to the detriment of the lives of innocent Nigerians," the communiqué added.

On the 2023 general election, the group stressed that all hands must be on deck to ensure that "righteous" people are put in authority; advising the electorate not to repeat the mistake of putting the "unrighteous" in authority.

While urging Nigerians to avoid indulging in any form of electoral malpractices like selling of their PVCs, the group specifically called on women and youths to understand that their futures are in their votes; just as they urged INEC not to indulge in anything that would jeopardize the future of Nigerians through their actions and inactions.

The association, while also emphasizing the importance of prayers in the life of a Christian, called on all to earnestly seek God in prayers, in order to obtain mercy in their personal lives, national politics, economy, and institutions; etc.

The group, as well, enjoined church leaders, traditional institutions, etc to get involved in politics.

Community Leader Berates Soludo Over Anti-Obi Comment

*Aplauds Ohaneze Ndigbo for Adopting Obi

Eche Nwaobasi, Nnewi

Sir Silas Ikeh, founder New Haven Estate Nkwelle Ezunaka, Human Rights Activist and a key Igbo Community leader in the South East has berated Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra State over his recent statement that attacked and condemned the aspiration of Mr. Peter Obi the Labour Party Presidential Flag bearer noting that the governor unwarranted outburst was a betrayal which was born out of envy and hatred just as he applauded the Ohaneze Ndigbo for adopting Mr. Peter Obi as the candidate of the South East in the spirit of equity.

Making this known while reacting to Gov. Soludo statement on Peter Obi aspiration as well as the recent adoption of Peter Obi by Ohaneze Ndigbo to journalists last Tuesday, Ikeh asked Gov. Soludo to as a matter of urgency come out in the open and apologies as well as refrain from further casting aspersions on Peter Obi adding that if he did not stop that he is going to lose political relevance in Anambra State and the entire South East.

Saying that Peter Obi is about to create history as the current rate of support has shown that he is the first Igbo politician who has received support from all the geo political zones of Nigeria, he stated that Peter Obi is in the right track to clinch the presidency of the country and cautioned Gov. Soludo to sheat his sword and stop fighting the Lord anointed as his further attack will make the Igbos to hate and ostracized him.

Said he, “it is obvious that going by how Obi movement is going right now that the hand of God is at work, Gov. Soludo should not be a stumbling block, let him withdraw whatever he said before it is too late or the Igbos will ostracized him politically. It is the turn of the South East to be there, the people has seen it, Obi presidential project is to maintain equity for the Igbos in Nigeria, it is the turn of the South East period as other geo political zone has taken their turn”.

speaking also on the issue, Mazi Zeribe Ezeanuna, the APGA factional candidate for Ogbaru Federal Constituency cautioned that people should not crucify the governor for speaking his mind. He noted that Gov. Soludo was speaking the mind of a lot of politicians from the South East who have been beaten into silence by the phenomenal movement of Obidient Family.

He added that what Gov. Soludoi was expressing is the fear that the Igbos might lose out completely if at the end Peter Obi did not win adding again that the governor is contesting the conscience of all Igbos for us to think twice and not put all our eggs in one basket.

Tension As Bishop, Worshipers' Feud in Anambra Church Escalates

The misunderstanding between the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Most Rev. Jonas-Benson Okoye, the Ihiala Catholic Community and the Holy Ghost priests of St. Martin of Tours Parish, Ihiala, has taken a rather dangerous dimension.

It was gathered that in the evening hours of Thursday, November 17, 2022, heavily armed men in black clothes, with their faces all covered, stormed the church premises - apparently on the instance of the bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Jonas Benson Okoye.

It was further gathered that the armed men disarmed the parish security men, tied them, and forcefully dispossessed them of their phones, and had the whole church ground locked down.

This, according to reliable sources, was connected with the bishop's ultimatum to the Holy Ghost priests to vacate the parish house before Friday, November 18.

When our reporter contacted the Parish Priest of St. Martin of Tours, Very Rev. Fr. Valentine Eze, he confirmed the development; and added that the armed men were in the parish premises all through the night, and even locked out parishioners, who came to the church for Friday prayer service.

"It took the intervention of respectable parishioners to douse the tension, and prevent a bloody showdown," the priest added.

Meanwhile, no sooner that the said armed men left the church premises than diocesan priests, in a convoy of 12 vehicles, stormed the parish house, apparently to eject the Holy Ghost priests, and subsequently take over the parish house.

The priests met hot resistance, as the rather angry worshipers drove them out of the church premises.

The ensuring drama and altercation forced the teachers and pupils of CWO Nursery and Primary School in the parish house to close abruptly at about 9:30 am, and ran away for their lives.

Spokesperson of the parishioners, who refused to mention his name, said that the diocesan bishop, Most Rev Jonas-Benson Okoye, had asked the Holy Ghost priests, who were believed to be founders of the parish church, to leave, and find any other place for themselves.

According to him, the bishop sent a diocesan priest, Rev. Fr. Augustine Ndukaji, to take over as the parish of St. Martin of Tours.

According to him, the bishop's directive did not go down well with the worshipers and people of the community, who held that it would be wrong for the bishop to pursue the Holy Ghost priests, who they said, built the parish church, and brought a lot of development to the town.

"The Holy Ghost priests were the first set of priests to come to Ihiala. They built St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Ihiala, which is the mother of all other parishes in Ihiala. They built Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital; they built the Holy Ghost Juniorate Seminary; as well as many schools in the community.

"The parishioners of St Martin of Tours and people of Ihiala are saying in unison that the decision to eject the Holy Ghost priests from a house they built, and send them nowhere, will be resisted," he said.

Politics / Open Letter To Governor Soludo, By Okeke Chika Jerry by Mokwugwo1975: 11:06am On Nov 19, 2022
OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR SOLUDO

By Okeke Chika Jerry

You are, unfortunately, the most distracted governor in Nigeria today by both seen and unforseen circumstances. This is very bad for Anambra State and this will affect your overall performance if you fail to act wisely now. Leaders need the prayers and support of the followers in order to succeed but I wonder how many Anambrarians that pray for you now. I sincerely feel for you! And I share in your pain, praying for you to come out of it soon. Please, do not be demolarized; do not be deterred.

Going to a year now, you are still warming up for the great task ahead, though you still have time. This is as a result of the challenges facing you. It will be good if you address the Anambrarians in a state-wide broadcast asking them to renew their support for you again. Nobody is above mistake. It was as a result of your passion to develop the state that you took some decisions that did not go down well with the people. Please sir, stop losing your temper unnecessarily bearing in mind that as a leader, you must always be provoked especially by the opposition. Silence is golden for now because people often misunderstand you whenever you speak your mind.

Sir, a lot is expected from your administration especially by the 'hungry' poor masses but some big fishes who want you to fail as a governor are throwing stones at you to distract you. Stop replying them! Remember when two big elephants are fighting, the grass will suffer. I advise you to keep quiet for now and concentrate on your good work in order to prove them wrong. It's only those who don't love their state that will pray for a sitting governor to fail.

Very importantly, a team of powerful prayer warriors are needed around you in that Agu-Awka Government House. Anambra cannot do without fasting and prayers now if you want to succeed under the present circumstances.

His Excellency, I wake up everyday to hear lots and lots of complains from Anambrarians against your government and this has warranted this letter. As your good brother, I will not hide the truth from you. But before then, Prof, I want to first commend you for living up to your promises on declaring the state of emergency on Anambra roads by awarding a lot of road contracts. This shows you truly mean well for Anambra State. I wish you well sir, though my worry is how you will be able to fund all these projects and properly supervise them to be like"Ngige" roads in Idemili.

Prof, over 50% of the people who rejoiced when you emerged as the governor of Anambra State believed that your emergency would bring succour to them rather than this hardship. I live in the midsts of these people and I can tell you for free that your people are not happy with your "beautiful" economic policies. Beautiful in the sense that taxation is good but the mindset of our people over taxation is very very poor.

I advise you to soft-pedal on this issue of taxation and reintroduce it when your government has done some visible things on ground. For now, I advise that your administration should channel about 30% of the state monthly income into direct investments especially in agriculture and industrialization.

I advise you to employ young civil engineers and use them (at least 30%) to fix our roads especially rural roads rather than contracting every road to private construction firms. We could hire the services of foreign engineers to lead them on road construction not just wasting money training them and dumping them thereafter. And it will be cheaper for us to construct and maintain our roads annually because government wastes a lot of money on award of contracts yearly.

Instead of taxing the poor keke, okada and barrow pushers who are already hungry and angry, I advise you to invest in transportation by providing mass transit buses for both inter and intra state services. Tickets should be sold and accounted for. Government can establish their own petro stations in major cities and be selling fuel at normal price at least to help sanitize the market and make money for the state.

Ministry of agriculture should arise and set up poultry and livestock farms as well as farms for the cultivation of maize, cassava, rice, yam, palm oil, etc in each of the 21 LGAs to raise money for the state. This can help lower the prices of foods and make them available and cheap too.

ABS radio and television can make money for the state if they are made apolitical and independent. Then this issue of running to Channels Television for interviews will stop for good. Government should establish industries, hotels, microfinance banks, etc even in rural areas through public/private partnership and sell shares to the public. Anambra can make a lot of money through sports and tourism if our commissioners are capable of turning things around.

If I were you, Prof, I would use the land in all the public primary, secondary and tertiary institutions for production of food through agriculture. When we were in primary school in the olden days, we were raising ridges where we cultivated yam, cassava and maize. Handiwork was also introduced in schools then. Why not now? There are other public land lying waste in this state. Government should lead by example by using them to invest massively in agriculture and industrialization. I believe you, Charlie Nwa Mgbafo, can do it because I know you are capable.

Proudly speaking, over 70% of the importers in Nigeria who are currently doing well in international markets are Anambrarians. As a governor of this lucky state, you need to sit down with these importers and fashion out ways in which most of these imported goods will be manufactured or assembled here in Anambra State just like our brothers Innoson, Chikason and co are doing in Nnewi. If I had won the election, my plan was to use the vast land in Nnewi South LGA spanning up to Azia/Orsumoghu/Lilu in Ihiala LGA for massive industrialization of the state through private/public partnership. But I lost the election probably because of what people describe as "wrong/unknown party". My dear Prof, please I will be happy if your administration will think towards that direction.

For now you shouldn't worry yourself about taxing the poor masses when you know that there are so many Anambrarians both at home and in diaspora who are far richer than the state government. Only the fruitful roundtable discussion with these people will do the magic.

There are needs for farm settlements in Anaku, Ufuma, Anam, Achalla and Ogwuaniocha. These farm settlements can attract fertilizer and other industries to the state. We can't be dying of hunger and our youths without jobs when we are blessed with fertile lands in those areas. Ekene Dili Chukwu saw the opportunity years back and personally established one at Anaku. Such gigantic project need to be revived and taken over by the state government. Coschasris and others are equally doing their best there but what is government doing to assist those people? Where is Anambra Rice? The past administration was exporting bitter leaves and other vegetables to Europe. A year after, nobody heard anything about it again. In case if you want to know, let me tell you, that agriculture alone can tackle the problem of insecurity in Anambra State.

Prof, the opportunity is there glaring at you to make your own mark just like your predecessors have done. Okwadike attracted to us the federal Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Mbadinuju gave us Anambra State University at Uli, Ngige and Obi among other things opened up good network of roads in the state. Obi in addition revived education sector, built Amaku Specialist Hospital from scratch and Igbariam Camp of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University which he renamed after the warlord, Ojukwu of blessed memory. The encouragement he gave to Innoson Motors is what every governor in Nigeria should emulate. Obiano should be remembered for the first Anambra International Airport and also the three beautiful flyovers in Awka among other things. Prof, if you can calm down now, carry everybody along and concentrate on pure governance, you can beat all these set records, harsh economic condition of Nigeria notwithstanding. This is still mmorning!

Instead of giving political appointments to politicians at both state and local government levels 'in order to settle them for the effort they made during the election', and using the tax payers money to pay them salaries and allowances, it's better to employ the youths at various local government areas and use them in agriculture and industrialization to generate money for the state from "Consumption to Production" in line with what our brother Peter Obi is preaching to Nigeria now. Your administration now has too many political appointees and huge amount of salaries and allowances paid monthly.

When I was campaigning for governor, I promised the people of Anambra State that I would not take salary as their governor for at least the period of two years. And I would not touch my security vote as a governor until I have adequately secured, educated and employed them. And I also promised to source for the commissioners and politicians who would also work without salaries for at least two years. They would work on part time bases and they would be experts in their various fields. The idea behind it was to save a lot of money for the state and use the money to industrialize the state to create jobs for the youths. I thought of it that it would be irresponsible of me if people whom I am better off after voting me in as their governor and I use their money to pay myself salaries, buy bulletproof cars for myself while I keep them jobless and hungry and even without security and sound education.

His Excellency sir, teachers, especially male teachers are needed in our public primary and secondary schools now. Kudos to you sir for recruiting about 5000 of them, though the number is far from being enough.

What I promised Anambra State during my campaign was to raise funds through special education trust fund in order to fund education. Education was number one on my manifesto because without it we have no future. Principals and headteachers should be given money to run their schools rather than telling them to tax the students or parents.

Everybody is aware that education is capital intensive. And half education is dangerous. So government should pay serious attention to education by funding it properly. Great thanks to Okwute Ndi Igbo, Mr Peter Obi for doing a lot in education sector during his tenure as Anambra State governor.

I want to appeal to you, His Excellency, to please recall the sacked PTA teachers who were employed by your predecessor. These teachers were teaching and suffering in various public schools in the state with peanuts as their salaries. They were employed by the PTAs years back and have gathered a lot of experiences. After having taught for over ten years in public schools under PTA, Obiano converted them to permanent teachers which I see as a good omen but didn't not hand them appointment letters. Before their mass sack by your administration, they have worked under APGA government for six months without salary. Though there were some errors in the process of recruiting them, the records in their schools can stand in their defence. Great number of them who did not make it on the recent recruitment exercise done by your administration have come to me pleading with me to talk to you on their behalf. My candid appeal to you, His Excellency, is to tamper justice with mercy.

My governor, I want to commend you gallantly on your efforts towards securing the lives and property of Anambrarians but a lot more still needs to be done. Security cameras are needed especially on our major markets, roads and junctions. It won't cost you much. Hoodlums, bandits and criminals are afraid of cameras more than they are afraid of security personnels. Cameras will even reveal to you how some security personnels or the your IGR agents compromise on their duties. Why not try it and see?

Very importantly, His Excellency, your people now suffer a lot on traffic jams in our major cities of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi especially at 3-3 Onitsha, bridge head, Owerri Road and Nkpor axis especially due to bad roads and reckless driving. It will be terrible this Xmas period if nothing is done urgently. Imagine staying over three hours on traffic under intensive heat of sunshine burning fuel without any hope. Please sir, I appeal to you to use your good office to call on the state commissioner of police to as a matter of urgency instruct all the DPOs to wake up the traffic units of the command to ensure that the issues of traffic jams in their areas are addressed. It's the official duty of the police to control traffic and punish the offenders accordingly.

His Excellency, I don't know if you have passed through Onitsha-Owerri Road recently. In case you haven't, please try to do so and see how your people suffer on that road. Using that road as a point of contact, I want you to do some palliatives on some critical major roads in the state before this festive season prior to when such roads will be fully reconstructed owing to the fact that there's high rate of insecurity in the state now. Some trips of sand or laterite can do some magic on those roads so that many people can pass through Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi during this Xmas period. Jisi ike! O dighi ofele. God is your strength! I'm praying for you!

I had a dream of establishing a paper mill in Ogbaru if I were elected governor of Anambra State in the last election. Sorry I didn't win! But Prof, I will be happy if you can think towards that direction because the raw materials are there. And this can help bring down the cost of books in Nigeria and as well raise the state IGR.

Without wasting time, Prof, there is need urgently to establish two dams in Anambra State: One in Ogbaru and another one in Anam. Use your influence as a global person and as the former CBN Governor to attract such investment to our dear state because dam can help both in irrigation and power generation. Mounting pressure on the federal government to dredge River Niger will be a huge plus to your government too Because Of Our Tomorrow.

You promised us local government election. I hope it won't take you too long before fulfilling that very important promise. So many youths that want to win councillorship or chairmanship elections are being denied such lifetime opportunities. Please I want you to think towards that direction immediately after general election next year.

If all these are done, people will pay their taxes willingly; the state will be prosperous, youths will be busy meaningfully and happy; calm will return to the state, huge investments will be attracted and you will be re-named the Micheal Okpala of new Anambra State. Then your second tenure will be assured.

Willingly, if there are areas you want me to assist your government to achieve all these and more, feel free to contact me. And I won't demand for any kobo from you in order to help you fix Anambra State, the Light of the Nation.

I wish you the best of luck, my dear brother.

Anambra Businessman Celebrates Wife For Bagging PhD

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Sunday, November 13, 2022, will remain memorable in the annals of the family of Sir Chris Emere, who celebrated his wife, Dr. (Lady) Oge Emere, who recently bagged doctorate degree in Educational Management and Planning from the Imo State University, Owerri.

Family members, friends, well-wishers, and people from all walks of life turned out in their numbers to grace the epoch- making occasion, which took place at the Fitness Club Event Center, 3-3 district, Onitsha.

Sir Emere, from Eziagu in Orumba South LGA of Anambra State, said that he was motivated to train his wife, Oge, because, when he married her, she told him that she would like to acquire higher education - a request he said he accepted with open heart.

He said, "This feat is something to celebrate; because, it is a milestone achievement and a dream come true.

"When I married her, I sent her back to school. She finished up her secondary education; she went further and earned her NCE. Then, she went for her first degree. Later, she went for her Master's degree, before she started her doctorate degree at the Imo State University, and today, she has her PhD in Educational Management and Planning.

"I am celebrating her, because, I am happy with her. She designed what she wanted, and she achieved it."

The reputable businessman said that he decided to invest in the education of his wife because of the need to have an educated wife in his household; as well as the need to meet up with the demands of the time.

He thanked God for making his family's dream come through; adding that his most challenging period in the journey was when his wife had to shuttle from Onitsha to Owerri three times every week in the course of her doctorate programme, amid insecurity in the land.

The chief celebrant, Dr. (Lady) Oge Emere, said she pursued her education to a very high level because she loved everything about education.

She said combining education with family life was challenging because of long period of time she invested between the time she got her ordinary level certificate, and the time she obtained her PhD; in addition to the enormous works of taking care of her husband and her children.

"The period of greatest concern was when I had to take care of my children, while also doing my own schooling. In the morning, I had to think of what they will eat; then, take them to school; bring them back, and so one.

"I was also faced with the challenge of having to leave my family, and also face the uncertainties when I had to travel from Onitsha to Owerri as much as three times every week, in the midst of insecurity. It was not ease; but all these are reasons why we are celebrating to the glory of God.

"Every successful woman has a story to tell. Any housewife can attain any height in any chosen career provided she is industrious, hardworking and committed to the course," she added.

She praised her husband, Sir Chris Emere, who she said, has a heart of gold, and did not blink an eye in providing all that was needed in the pursuit of her education.

Highpoints of the ceremony was when Dr (Mrs) Oge Emere and her husband, Sir Chris Emere cut the celebration cake, and took to the dance floor to entertain guests.
