Family / Relations Of Kidnapped Female NYSC Member Seeks Fg's Intervention by Mokwugwo1975: 6:14pm On Nov 15, 2022
Relations of Kidnapped Female NYSC Member Seeks FG's Intervention

Relations of a female NYSC member, Miss Nnamani Maureen Cynthia, kidnapped alongside other passengers on March 3rd, 2020, by suspected Fulani Herdsmen along Ugwuoba Road, Enugu State, have appealed to the federal government to help rescue her.

The family said that because of their faith in God, they believed strongly that their daughter could be rescued alive.

Nnamani Maureen Cynthia, before this incident, was a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, serving at Ika South LGA of Delta State, Nigeria, and a graduate of Microbiology at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.

Elder brother of the corps member,. Mr. Christopher Nnamani, who made the appeal while narrating the sad development to newsmen in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, regretted that all their efforts to find her was futile, hence, the resolve of the family to seek federal government assistance.

Mr. Nnamani, who was shading tears as a result of the development, told newsmen that the incident came to the knowledge of the family on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020, while he (Mr Nnamani) received the girl's last call at about 1pm on that fateful day, when the missing corps member told him that their vehicle had just left their Urban Mass Transit Park in Enugu, and was heading to Awka.on her way to Ika LGA, Delta State, where she was doing her NYSC.

He said that he called her again at about thirty minutes later but his sister did not take the call, but rather sent a WhatsApp message, telling him that they were at Ugwoba, Oji River Area of Enugu State.

While wiping his tears with handkerchief, Nnamani narrated that at about 3pm on the said day, he called his sister again, only to discover that her phone was switched off.

He stated that after several unsuccessful calls, he decided to wait, thinking that his sister would call him when she got to her destination.

He said he was surprised to receive his sister's call at about 7pm that same day, only to realize that the voice at the other end, which waa not the voice of his sister, told him that they were holding her in their custody, and that if they wanted her back, they should pay a ransome of N40, 000, 000 (Forty Million Naira).

He explained that as he made efforts to explain, the alleged kidnappers told him that they would call him back for further discussion; just as he said he was warned not to involve any security personnel.

He stated that at about 9pm, the said kidnappers called him again through his sister’s line, and gave her the phone to speak with him, and when she did, they collected the phone from her, and warned us to comply quickly with their demand, as they would call us back to give us directive on how the money would be brought to them.

According to him, since his last conversation with the kidnappers on March 3rd, 2020, the said kidnappers are yet to contact them again, and as well all their efforts to involve security personnel did not yield any fruit; hence, their resolve to appeal to Nigeria government and the general public to help rescue the innocent girl.

Woman Testifies How She Was Healed Of Kidney Disease In Anambra Church

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

A 62:year old Onitsha based business woman suffering from kidney disease for many years, was healed completely after drinking 3 bottles of holy water at the Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Nkpor Agu, Nigeria.

Omatolu Rosemary from Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State, who attended one of the deliverance programmes in the church, located at No. 19 Ezendu Street, Off Mercedes Avenue, Nkpor Agu, Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, told our reporter that her family spent over N3 million Naira, and had suffered greatly under many doctors, without success, until she was invited to a programme organized by the Bible Base Miracle Assembly in October, 2022.

She said, "This affliction started about 6 years ago. It was one of the greatest afflictions anybody had gone through in my father's house, and in my husband's house.

"My children took me to many hospitals without good results. As a matter of fact, my children were contemplating taking me abroad for medical treatment by January 2023. Fortunately, sometime in October, 2022, a family friend, who is a member of the church, invited me to one of their deliverance programmes.

"During the 3-day church programme, the Senior Pastor of the church, Rev. Dr. Jerry Nwachukwu, gave me 3 bottles of water, prayed over it, and told me to drink. I drank the water for 3 days in sequence - as the programme lasted.

"After the programme, the feelings I used to have as a result of the ailment stopped. My children were still busy gathering money for the oversea trip, when I told them about my encounter with the Bible Base Church, and the need for us to go for a check-up.

"In late October, when we went for a chech-up, it was found that the sickness has left me. We went for the same test in 3 different hospitals, and the results were the same. The results showed that there was nothing like kidney disease in my system. I never felt so relieved in my entire life."

The woman, who said that she is yet to come to terms with the way the sickness left her, said the Indian hospital, which invited them for treatment, charged them 442,500 USD for a transplant.

Nairaland / General / Anambra Market Leaders Give Elite Traders 2 Weeks To Withdraw Petitions Against by Mokwugwo1975: 10:00am On Nov 05, 2022
Anambra Market leaders Give Elite Traders 2 Weeks To Withdraw Petitions Against Ngonadi

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Market leaders, especially chairmen in Anambra State, weekend gave all those masquerading as petition writers, including the one under the aegis of Anambra Elite Traders' Forum, against the Commissioner for Commmerce and Industry, Hon. Obinna Ngonadi, two weeks ultimatum to desist from their nefarious activities in their own interest or face the wrath of traders in the state.

Sounding the note of warning, the chairman of Nkpor New Auto Spareparts market, Chief Elysius Ozokwere, expressed surprise that the commissioner was accused of disobedience to court order in the market, adding that the commissioner has not been appointed as at the time the opposition in the market took the incumbent leadership to court.

"They took us to Ogidi High Court, accusing us of construction of shops on top of existing shops, and we defeated them, and court also awarded N1 million cost against them, because we have the mandate of the state government to do the project.

"They now headed to Appeal Court and want to dent the image of the commissioner by accusing him of taking N80 million gratification for the construction of the shops.

"These people who are petitioning to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, against the commissioner don't have identity. They are traders, who lost election and some have no shops in the market. Power is not shared, it is given by God. If you lost election, wait for another time," he advised.

Also, in their various contributions, vice chairman, Mr. Ikechukwu Jude Onyegbu; financial secretary, Alexander C. Orji, and the secretary, Hon.Uche Malobi; reiterated that the commissioner was innocent of the accusation levelled against him; adding that the petitioners are bunch of holligans, who have no good reputation in the market. He urged the governor to disregard their petition.

Reacting, chairman of Electronics Dealers International Market, Onitsha, Hon. Ifeanyi Egwuenu, accused a sacked secretary of the market of collaborating with other enemies of the state government to cause crises in Anambra markets.

"The sacked secretary embezzled money paid by MTN for installation of its mask in the market, and that was why the former chairman sacked him. Since then, he started fighting the market leadership.

"He does not have wares to sell in the make; but instigates people to forment trouble in the market as means for him to get to leadership position.

"My executive members and I didn't pay any money to the commissioner for the purpose of having this leadership positions. It was the elders of the market that came to me and asked me to take up the position. The sacked secretary, who has been in office for 12 years as secretary, with those who overstayed in office, that were removed by the state government, vowed to continue to fight the commissioner for not allowing them to continue in their selfish leadership of the markets in the state," he hinted.

Speaking, a film producer in the market, Chief Anthony Okechukwu Nwafu, commended the commissioner for picking the likes of the chairman of the Electronics Market as market chairmen, adding that Egwuenu had, within his short stay, rebuilt the fallen fences of the market that cost about a million naira, with his personal money.

"So, the commissioner will be having enemies for doing good things to sanitize the markets," he stated.

Also in his contribution, the chairman of Atani Iron Dealers Association, Chief Evaristus Ejezie, said that he did not pay a dime to be appointed as chairman of the market by the commissioner.

"When people were congratulating me, and calling me new chairman, I was surprised. The chairman finished his eight years of two tenures, and I was his vice. So, I felt maybe, because I was his vice that was why the commissioner made me the chairman. So, anybody that accuses the commissioner of collecting money for giving market leadership posts, is an enemy of the state government, and should be seen as devil", he posited.

Reacting, the chairman of Ogbaru Main Market, Chief Ogbogu Nwanodi, expressed surprise that the petitioners accused the commissioner of taking bribe from traders before giving them appointments.

"I was called to the commissioner's office and offered the chairman position of my market without knowing the commissioner or offering him gratification. So, the petitioners just wanted to tarnish his image," he said.

Speaking, the chairman of Ogbo Abada, Basil Ozor, said he was given appointment as chairman on a platter of gold; adding that he did not spend a money to get the job from the commissioner.

Recall that the Anambra Elite Traders' Forum (AETF), in their petition, signed by Chief Chikeluba Odiche, and Mr. Michael Nwangwu, tagged: “Re-Sale of Market Leadership Offices", and other Atrocities Being Perpetrated by Dr. Obinna Ngonadi," accused the commissioner of selling market leadership in Anambra markets to the highest bidder.

Anambra Community Engages Govt Over Alleged Marginalization

By Phil Okose, Onitsha

Dissatisfied with their alleged marginalization by Anambra State Government, the people of Achalla community, Awka North Local Government Area, weekend vowed to confront the State Government if the marginalization continues.

Making the vow during the celebration of the 2022 New Yam festival by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Osita Sunny Nwokedi, the President General of the community, Chief Nnamdi Michael Ikwune, lamented that their roads have been cut off by flood and abandoned over the years.

"We thought we would have been among those listed in the phase 1 of the State Government road rehabilitation project, but they excluded us saying we would be shortlisted in the phase 2. We have to wait as they said but if at the end of the day we are not involved, we will go confrontational against the State Government because we voted massively for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and APGA.

"We want State Government to declare Achalla 'a state of emergency', we have rough roads, it shows injustice done to us despite that we are council headquarters. We tow part of peace and very contributive to this government.

"Achalla is the food basket of the State and we need good roads to evacuate our farm produce to the cities, but we are neglected. The council secretariat, schools, among other places, are ghost areas," the PG lamented.

Contributing, Igwe Nwokedi urged Governor Soludo to come to the rescue of the people towards infrastructural development of the community adding that the community has been abandoned for years now especially on road projects.

Lamenting that the community has been marginalized despite her support to Governor Soludo, Igwe Nwokedi commended Senator Uche Ekwunife for embarking on the rehabilitation of one of the major roads in the community without the community asking her for such gesture.

"We will reciprocate her because it is those who remember us that we also remember and that is why today, (Saturday), we resolved and conferred on her the Chieftaincy title of, 'Anya Ejieje Mba'. She is now a member of my cabinet", Igwe stated.

In his speech, the former President General of the community, Chief Nwatanayo Eze, stressed the need for the State Government to come to their need adding that as food basket of the State, priority attention should be rendered to them.

In his own speech, the Cabinet secretary, Chief Nworah Patrick, urged Governor Soludo to rehabilitate their roads hinting that the community has the best export of rice in Nigeria.

"We expect infrastructural development of our community especially on roads, our roads are terribly bad. We have the best export of rice in Nigeria and rehabilitation of the roads will help us evacuate the farm produce," he stated.

Also on hard drug, Mkpulumili, (methamphetamine) consumption by youths he advised them to emulate those of them that are youths but public servants, pointing out that such drugs consumption ruin one for life.

Speaking, one of the network giants, MTN, that sponsored the occasion, through its team, led by Mr. Ojima Prince, said that Igbo people didn't play with their cultural heritage adding that MTN as part of communication, was there for information dissemination.
Religion / Church Crisis: Ihiala Catholic Community Demands Independent Diocese by Mokwugwo1975: 2:54pm On Oct 31, 2022
Church Crisis: Ihiala Catholic community demands independent diocese

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Parishioners of St Martin's Catholic Church, and the Ihiala Catholic Community, have called on Pope Francis to create a separate diocese in the area, which will be known as Catholic Diocese of Ihiala; and will be independent of the Nnewi diocese.

Recall that the Ihiala Catholic Community have been in a running battle with the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Most Rev Jonas-Benson Okoye, over the decision of the later to remove the faculty of the Holy Ghost priests in St Martin's Parish, and further sacked them from the parish. This situation did not go down well with the Catholic community in Ihiala, leading to negative developments - including suspension of Holy Mass in the area for the past four weeks.

But speaking at St. Martin's Parish, Ihiala, yesterday, after a 3-day fasting, prayers and Rosery novena, the President of the Catholic Women Organization (COW) in the parish, Lady Comfort Okolie, said that curving out an independent diocese for Ihiala will be the shortest and surest way out of the current crisis bedeviling Ihiala Catholic Community, and St Martin's Parish in particular.

She said, "The crisis in Ihiala Catholic Community is no longer a secret. This has gone to the extent that Holy Mass is suspended in St Martin's Parish. Majority of the Catholic faithful have joined the Anglican Church; some have gone back to the tradition because they see the current development in our church as disdainful.

"The bishop decided to post diocesan priest, in the person of Fr. Augustine Ndukaji to St. Martin's Parish, Ihiala; but St Martin's is a home for Spiritan missionaries. Ihiala gave them the land where they built the church about 150 years ago.

"The parish is presently the headquarters of the Spiritan priests in the Southeast. They were the people that built the Catholic Church in Ihiala; they built the Juniorate Seminary in Ihiala; and also built Out Lady of Lourdes Hospital, among many other things. So, the Spiritan are Ihiala people, and Ihiala people are the Spiritan.

"All of a sudden, Bishop Okoye sacked the Holy Ghost priests, and told them to go anywhere. He sent his own priest to the parish, and the entire Ihiala Catholic Community said it will not happen. The community has decided that if the bishop will take over the church building, we'll take the land we gave to the Spiritan priests.

"The most painful aspect is that the bishop went as far as removing the faculty of the Spiritan priests, so that they won't have the power to celebrate Holy Mass. Since 4 weeks ago when this impasse started, the parishioners - the lay faithful have been celebrating Holy Mass themselves without any priest to administer Holy Communion."

Flanked by the President of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), Mr. Linus Obiora; member of the Parish Council, Mr. Michael Obiajulu,; President, Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement (CCRM), Bro. Joseph Nwagbuo; President of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), Mr. Izuchukwu Akudike; the Coordinating Secretary and spokesperson of the Parish and Concerned Citizens of Ihiala, Mr. Nonye Chukwu; the CWO President said that since the crisis started, the Ihiala Catholic Community have written to the bishop on two different occasions, but none of the letters was replied. She beckoned on Pope Francis, as well as the hierarchy of the church to intervene, and possibly curve out a separate diocese for Ihiala, so that the Catholic church in the area will not be completely disinterested.

"Since the creation of St Martin's Parish by the Spiritan priests, the mother parish has given birth to 13 other parishes within Ihiala region - which can stand as a diocese of its own, if allowed," she submitted.

Govt Gives Ultimatum To Illegal Miners, Land Excavators In Anambra Community

Suspected illegal miners and land excavators in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Thursday, reportedly took to their heels on sighting a team of officials from the Ministry of Environment, who stormed the site to acquit itself with the extent of damages the mining and land excavation have done to the people of the community.

The team, led by Mr. Johnbosco Emmanuel, had on arrival, inspected the site and condemned the activities of the suspects; stating that they would soon be brought to book over the environmental hazards they are causing the residents.

Mr. Emmanuel said the team stormed the site based on the petition sent to the Ministry by the people of Aboji Akanano Union, Oba, through their lawyer, Barr. Cosmas Anusiobi, complaining about the environmental hazards, and pointing out that government would not allow illegality to thrive in the state.

In the petition, signed by the President General of the community, Chief Dozie Nweke, the people stated that no responsible community would close its eyes and allow the activities of these illegal miners, who they said caused irreparable damages to the ecosystem, the people of Oba and beyond.

"It is common knowledge that Anambra State and Federal Governments frowned against these unwholesome activities which are some of the remote causes of erosion devastations, as about 65 per cent of land in Anambra State are being threatened by erosion menace.

"Land and property owners close to the site now stand the risk of losing their investments as the area is now prone to land slide and gully erosion, which will result in great economic loss to innocent citizens," they stated.

According to them, such indiscriminate excavation, if not stopped, would adversely affect structures that include fences, houses and high tension poles, and expose the environment to erosion, and may render people homeless.

The petition was copied to the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Echeng Echeng; Director of State Security Services, as well as the chairman, House Committee on Environment, Anambra State House of Assembly, Awka.

PDP Has Nothing To Offer Nigerians If Re-Elected - APC

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The Director of Public Affairs and Chief Spokesperson, Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Festus Keyamo, has dismissed the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), and it's 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, describing it as a failed political party, which has nothing to offer.

In a statement on Monday, October 24, captioned, "PDP’S JUVENILE CRITIQUE OF APC’S ACTION PLAN, RENEWED HOPE," the presidential spokesperson catalogued how PDP misruled the country for 16 years, left Nigeria and the South East in particular with unfulfilled promises, among other things.

"It appears the Peoples Democratic Party is unaware that Nigerians have since dismissed it as an unserious and broken opposition party. If nothing at all, its latest press release signed by Chief Dele Momodu, attests to its crass unseriousness.

"PDP promised the people of South-East Second Niger Bridge for 16 years, yet, nothing was built. Today, thanks to President Muhammadu Buhari of APC, the Second Niger Bridge is completed. At a time, a former spokesperson of PDP government said Nigeria couldn’t afford train coaches, much less rail lines. Today, we have Lagos - Ibadan, Itakpe - Warri rail lines.

"Even in the face of dwindling resources and global economic challenges, APC government has lifted millions of Nigerians out of poverty with National Social Investment Programs, widely acclaimed as the first in Africa in scale and innovation. Nigeria has become a sufficient rice-growing nation, rated highest in rice and sorghum production in Africa by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), a status PDP thought was impossible.

"APC's efforts in power generation and distribution is yielding good results, unlike the $16 billion squandered by PDP under Obasanjo, under the guise of power projects with nothing to show for it. Pledges made by PDP governments are being redeemed by the present APC government. Pensions and other entitlements of workers in PDP’s failed privatisation scam have been paid up to date.

"The 5-point agenda of the flag bearer of the PDP for the 2023 general election is nothing to write home about. Top on the list is his lip service to unify Nigeria. One can only laugh. This is a man that his party is torn between division and disarray. Till now, Atiku is yet to fix it. What a failure!

"Atiku's 74-page campaign document has in it ongoing milestones of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration. From lifting millions out of poverty to power generation to economy revitalization. It is clear that PDP is either too lazy to think or bereft of fresh ideas. Everywhere Atiku went for campaigns, he was never caught speaking on issues of governance. Rather, if he is not promising the Igbo Presidency in 2027, he will be playing the ethnic card; like what he said in Kaduna, where he said that what an average northerner needs is a northern president - not Igbo or Yoruba president. Unfortunately for him, Nigerians are wise; they know he has nothing to offer.

"Nigerians are surprised that Dele Momodu could ask what Bola Tinubu is known for. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is known for his glittering records and achievements. Can Dele Momodu also say this about his principal, Atiku Abubakar, whose time as Vice President has no other legacy to be remembered for other than the failed privatization exercise he was assigned to supervise where he sold national assets to his friends and cronies for peanuts? Track records should be critical in evaluating any party or candidate."

Religion / Hate Speech: Ihiala Catholic Community Asks Bishop To Call Fr Ndukaji To Order by Mokwugwo1975: 9:45pm On Oct 23, 2022
Alleged Hate Speech: Ihiala Catholic Community Asks Bishop Okoye To Call Fr. Ndukaji To Order

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Parishioners of St Martin's Catholic Church, and concerned citizens of Ihiala in Anambra State have begged the Catholic bishop of Nnewi Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev Jonas-Benson Okoye, to use his good office to call Fr Augustine Ndukaji to order; so that he won't continue to cause problems in the already tensed Catholic community through his actions, inactions and utterances.

This was contained in a statement jointly endorsed by the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Catholic Men Organization (CMO), Catholic Boys Organization (CBO) and Catholic Girls Organization (CGO, of the parish.

The statement issued on Sunday, October 23, by the Coordinating Secretary and spokesperson of Concerned Citizens of Ihiala, and St. Martin's Parish, Nonye Chukwu, claimed that Fr Ndukaji, during a Rotatory meeting at St Gregory's Parish, Ubahuekwem, Ihiala, on Saturday, October 22, spoke disparagingly about the parishioners of St Martin's; describing them as very disobedient Christians, and people who should not be taken seriously.

The statement further claimed that the cleric said he must enter into St. Martin's Parish by force; whether the parishioners like it or not; a statement they said is too unbecoming of a priest, who should be finding a way to mend fences with the parishioners already aggrieved by crisis in the parish.

Part of the statement reads "We want to bring this issue to the notice of His Lordship that Fr. Augustine Ndukaji has continued to make inflammatory statements about the current crisis in our mother parish, St Martin of Tours.

"His Lordship recently sacked the Holy Ghost priests, who have been in charge of St Martin's Parish, Ihiala, and appointed a circular priest, Fr. Augustine Ndukaji, in their place; a development that didn't go down well with the Catholic community.

"Despite the problem on ground, Fr. Ndukaji went ahead to make derogatory statements, and boasted that he must become the Parish Priest of St Martin's.This, to us, is a hate speech. If Dr. Ndukaji actually said those things, as reported by our parishioners that attended the meeting, it is then very unfortunate considering his age and position.

"These days, there had been reinforced efforts by some priests of the diocese (especially Fr. Ndukaji) to ditch out preachings loaded with hate speeches, with the sole intent of ridiculing the parishioners, and aggravating tensions. This, ordinarily, should not have come from a priest; especially at this time everybody is looking for solution to the issue at hand."

The conference, organized in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has the theme "Advancing Nigerian Content Development For Industrial Productivity And Sustainable Digital Economy."

The conference, chaired by Prof Anthony Ikefuna, had in attendance the Hon. Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Anambra State, Barr Anthony Ifeanya; captains of industries, young scientists, secondary school students, men and women from the academia, as well as others from different walks of life.

In his address of welcome, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof K.K Nwozor, said that the conference was conceived with a view to hastening the push for university industrialization, as envisaged by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Greg Nwakoby.

He also said that the conference would expose students of the university and young professionals for life in the digital era through the special capacity building workshop on career growth and survival strategies in a digital economy.

He further said that the 2022 conference was designed to fast-track the pace of the university on the highway of university- industrialization as the institution activates the industrial research and innovation endowment fund, a special purpose vehicle for funding and supporting industry-defined research focus areas, which aligns with the Nigerian Content Development agenda for development of local technology and indigenous solutions for industries and businesses.

In his address, the chairman, Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Prof. O.I Chiaghanam, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university, said that the 2022 conference addresses the future of science and innovation by incorporating secondary school students under the banner of young scientists and future innovators.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Greg Nwakoby, said that the 2022 conference was special because, according to him, any nation that does not improve it's productivity capacity cannot enjoy economic growth; adding that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which is the measure for the size of economy of any nation is determined by several factors, top among them is productivity.

Earlier in his remark, the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barr Anthony Ifeanya, said that the conference and it's purpose are in line with the visions of Governor Charles Soludo that every school child will be receiving 21st century education for the digital age; youths to become global serial entrepreneurs; to transit beyond petroleum into the digital world of the fourth industrial revolution, among other things.

He added that the gathering of the FAPSCON 2022, is one of the non-economic parts of an innovation ecosystem which includes technology, institutions, etc which he said, can enable idea making, introducing innovation and their diffusion.

He urged that the conference should align its thinking in line with the establishment of efficient science and technology innovation ecosystem in Anambra State, and the Southeast region.

The conference featured science and technology exhibitions by secondary school students and young scientists, seminars, paper presentations and awards.

Tears Roll As Ifeanyi Ubah Buries Capital Oil Regional Manager, Odum

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Tears rolled uncontrollably on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Umuodum village, Mbaukwu in Awka South LGA of Anambra State, where the senator representing Anambra South at the national assembly, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, bade farewell to the late regional manager of the Capital Oil and Gas Ltd.

Odum, 42, was among those killed on the 11th of September, 2022, when unknown gunmen attacked Ifeanyi Ubah's convoy along Enugwu-Ukwu road in Njikoka LGA.

Speaking at the graveside of the deceased, Senator Ubah, who was in tears, described Mr. Odum's demise as a heart breaker too costly to be forgotten in a haste.

He said, "Today, being Saturday; October 8, 2022, I attend the funeral of my late Regional Manager; Mr. Odum Ikechukwu at Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA, Anambra State.

"Until his demise, late Odum Ikechukwu was a person everyone wanted to reckon with. Remarkably, endearing inside-out, a bundle of inspiration to all around him; a kind soul and wise counsel whose good deeds are inexpressible in words. Unfortunately, death snatched him from us helplessly. He was a truly magnificent man whose humility, openness and guidance will be cherished forever.

"Till date, I am still shocked, saddened and traumatized by the gruesomeness that took him from us. So many times, I have tried to make sense of this, and tried to understand the reason why this happened. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers, and as difficult and painful as it is, we must accept that this is the will of God.

"Undoubtedly, his demise has left a void in my heart as he was not just my regional manager, but also a brother, strong pillar of support and confidant, who was always there for me each single moment that he was called upon. However, while l mourn today, I have also taken comfort in the fact that he lived a productive and an impact filled life worthy of emulation."

Senator Ubah thanked his friends and colleagues that attended the funeral; including Senator Uche Ekwunife, Senator Victor Umeh, Hon Uche Okafor (Wiper), Prof. Umenweke, Chief Vin. Onyeka, Ugodan, Emeka B.B, Chief Edwin Igbokwe, Hon. Juliet Chukwunonye Anaeme (Ada Ozubulu) and other notable personalities too numerous to mention.

The former senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Chief (Sir) Victor Umeh, and the current senator representing the zone, Chief (Mrs) Uche Ekwunife, who were present at the funeral ceremony, commiserated with Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah over the death of his regional manager.

Speaking, Senator Victor Umeh, who is currently contesting the Anambra Central Senatorial seat under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) remarked that death is an inevitable end, and urged Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and the entire Odum family to bear the loss with hope in the resurrection.

He also condemned violent attacks witnessed at different places across Nigeria, and called on government at all levels, as well as security agencies to rise up to the challenge.

Senator Uche Ekwunife, who also condemned the attack on Senator Ubah's convoy, which led to the untimely death of Mr Odum, tasked the police and relevant security agencies not to rest on their oars until the culprits are arrested and made to face the law.

Earlier during a funeral Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. James-Michael Okpalaonwuka, at St Theresa's Catholic Church, Mbaukwu, the homilist, Rev. Fr. Paschal Ikejemba, admonished the faithful to be always ready for God's call at any moment.

Fr. Ikejemba, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, Anambra State, said that since it is difficult for any man to tell how and when he will go to his creator, it becomes very necessary for every mortal to prepare his soul for rapture, and the final judgement.

While consoling the wife, children, mother and the entire family of the deceased, the cleric also urged them to pray for the soul of the departed; and to also prepare their own souls for the final judgement day.

Elections Are No Longer Won In Abuja, Isiagu Monarch Tells Politicians

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The traditional ruler of Isiagu ancient kingdom in Awka South LGA of Anambra State, Igwe Austin Nwankwo, has told politicians gunning for various elective positions in the 2023 general election that political affiliation will not save them from defeat; unless they do their homeworks properly.

Addressing journalists on Friday, October 7, in his palace, during the 2022 New Yam festival of the community, the monarch said that unlike previous elections, 2023 will be a different ball game, because, according to him, voting pattern will base on individual politician's personality, popularity and acceptability.

"As the 2023 general election draws closer, politicians must take note that it is no longer business as usual. Electing any person into any executive or legislative position will base on the individual's acceptability and past record.

"Gone are the days when the voter takes a politician's party platform into consideration. 2023 will be entirely different. There will be no room for rigging and vote buying. People will vote their representatives based on popular choice. The new electoral guideline will not allow for manipulation, rigging or vote buying," he said.

He urged politicians to go down to their people poling units and wards to identify with their people; warning that "today, election is no longer won in Abuja."

Igwe Nwankwo also thanked Governor Charles Soludo for appointing one of his subjects as a transition committee chairman of Awka South LGA; saying that it was the first time a son of the community is occupying the position.

Speaking on the New Yam Festival, Igwe Isiagu noted that the event, marked every first Friday in October, is a time the community give thanks to God for blessing them with bountiful harvest; as well as God's blessings in other spheres of life.

The monarch also thanked his subjects for their support, and promised that he would continue to pilot the affairs of the community in a way that peace and prosperity will continue to reign supreme.

The 2022 New Yam festival also featured conferment of chieftaincy title on a daughter of the community, Chief Ekemezie, as 'Ada Isiagu' for her exemplary leadership roles among the womenfolk in the community.

It also featured parade by masquerade groups, native dances, shows and exhibitions, among other side attractions.

The event attracted politicians, traditional rulers, friends, well-wishers, and townspeople.

2023: Why Alhaji Njaka Must Apologize To Ngige - Anambra APC

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has told the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, to tender unreserved apology to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, over an alleged gross representation.

A statement issued by Okelo Madukaife, Anambra State Publicity Secretary of the party, said that Njaka, in a recent interview in the Vanguard Newspaper, claimed that Ngige was not supporting the party in the 2023 presidential election; an assertion the state chapter of the party viewed as an affront on Ngige, who is the leader of the party in Anambra.

The statement reads: "The partisan political side-issues experientially raised by Sen (Dr) Chris Ngige, Anambra State leader of APC, in an interview on Channels Television , otherwise focused on the issues around the Appeal Court Order to end ASUU strike, is a patriotic advice to the National Working Committee (NWC), National Caucus and National Board of Trustees of our great party; not an invitation to be bashed by those who do not share his historical profile in the making of APC.

"When Senator Ngige said that 'we have issues, but PDP has double;' ''ours is just a family matter,' then went ahead to say, ''if these issues are addressed, our party will sweep polls,' he pointed in the direction of hope - in a manner that should make perceptive spokesmen of political parties avoid being hasty to hit the airwaves with hollow pseudo-orders.

"Ngige's advice called for thoughtful reflection and internal dialogue, which no political party seeking to retain national power needs to be told.

"Does anyone need to remind another that after primaries, there must be reconciliations; moreso where there already were issues pre-dating the primaries, which denied some chapters participation? How many presidential aspirants are campaigning openly for the presidential candidate of APC at the moment? Is Alhaji Ajaka campaigning openly for the presidential candidate? How many members of the NWC are doing so?

"We respectfully remind Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka that his needless negative reaction, reading bad meaning into plain submissions, as reported by Vanguard Newspapers; possibly his first public statement since selection, is a tirade on our leader who, the last we checked, belonged to all organs of the party, and is therefore reachable by multiple avenues.

"We sadly note that the vitriolic reaction ignored the feats scored in the nucleus of the interview- actions by Buhari government on academic disruption by academic politicians, and the prospects of complete university autonomy by May 29, 2023, in favour of inexplicable tantrums. This is unacceptable!

"We, therefore, demand an unreserved apology from Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, and make a considered request of swift actions from the NWC, National Executive Committee (NEC) and all other organs connected with addressing the pockets of disquiet in our great party, ahead of an election in which Sen. Ngige says authoritatively that 'we shall sweep polls."

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, has released manifesto for his 2023 presidential campaign.

The manifesto titled "Prospects Of Transformative Governance In Nigeria," released on Friday, October 7, emphasizes security.of lives and property through properly restructured police force; harnessing youth strength, among other things.

It says, "We will tweak the security architecture, which will entail reform of the security sector and governance. We will restructure, re-equip and reorient the Nigerian police. This will include 3 level policing - federal, state and community.

"We will build a compact, robust and ready mobile police force with Rapid Response Deployment capabilities; and legislate the establishment of state police based on community policing. We will raise the population to police officer ratio to a higher level."

The manifesto also assures of rebuilding Nigeria’s military power, promoting economic growth, and enhancing its technological prowess with a view to improving Nigeria’s diplomatic influence in sub-regional, regional and global affairs.

"Our administration will pursue a properly manned, equipped and technologically driven security system with particular emphasis on re-focusing the military on external threats and border protection and police on internal security threats and law enforcement; swift prosecution of criminals, bandits and terrorists; enhanced coordination among security agencies; and upholding the rule of law."

The manifesto also emphasizes the challenge of high youth unemployed in Nigeria, and promised that LP administration will pursue the national youth strength with a view to curbing the trend.

"We are challenged by high youth unemployment, which stands at 54% for the youth; and 20 million out-of-school-children. We must give this country back to the Nigerian youths. Half of our 200 million people are below the age of 30.

"Harnessing our national youth strength and demographic dividends intelligently must start with curbing the high youth unemployment, and creating funding access to enable our youths become entrepreneurs and drivers of our Small and Medium Scale enterprises (SMEs)," it emphasizes.

It also emphasizes zero tolerance for corruption, blockage of leakages, and cutting the cost of governance; with avowed commitment to transparency and accountability in government business.

It also emphasizes on removing import and forex restrictions; as well as establishing the independence of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as part of moves to bring inflammation to a single digit.

"As part of our monetary policy, we will seek to re-establish the independence of the CBN; and commit to a credible and transparent plan to normalize the exchange rate and bring inflation to single digits.

"We will remove import and forex restrictions and insist on a single forex market. The current system penalizes exporters, who bring in forex by forcing them to sell at a rate that they are unable to source for forex when they need to purchase forex. This multiple exchange rate regime encourages capital flight and deters investment, which has further worsened Nigeria’s forex situation."

It also promises that LP administration will prioritize production-centered growth for food security and export; securing and uniting Nigeria,
leapfrogging Nigeria from oil to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR); expanding physical infrastructure through market-driven reforms; as well as initiating human capital development that empowers competitiveness, and robust foreign policy that restores Nigeria’s strategic relevance.

"We are spending more on recurrent expenses, and we are borrowing frivolously. I am not against loans per se; but we must stop borrowing for consumption. All loans must be invested in regenerative projects. We must operate within available resources and strive for a balanced national budget as cost saving measures. Ending the leakages - including the subsidy regime and improving our tax regime, should do the magic."

The manifesto adds, "We shall ensure that in moving Nigeria forward, no state or community will be left behind. Pursuant to its statutory responsibility to protect, our government will promote equity in power and resource sharing. The federating units will enjoy discernible autonomy. Resources will also be shared equitably. A higher derivation paid to oil or solid minerals producing states will not be tantamount to other states not receiving federal allocations that should keep them viable. We must transcend the rhetoric that bedevils a robust debate on some of these national questions.

"We will respect the principles of federal character, affirmative action and gender balance; but no longer at the expense of merit."

2023: APGA Insists On Supporting Own Presidential Candidate, Prof. Umeadi

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has insisted that it will support it's own presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Prof. Peter Umeadi.

Rising from a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party held on Tuesday, October 4, at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Ike Oye, indexed the opportunities and challenges the party is likely to face in the oncoming elections, and stressed that despite all challenges, APGA is going to triumph.

The APGA chairman, who reiterated his confidence that the party is doing very well in many states, and will definitely win more seats in various elections nationwide, further analyzed that the possibility of any party winning presidential election is dependent only on the ability of the party getting 25% of votes cast in 2/3 (two third) of the 36 states of the federation.

He also elucidated how the case of Chekwas Okorie and Edozie Njoku was summarily dealt with, reiterating that there is only one APGA headed by himself, Ozonkpu Dr Victor Ike Oye, and does not have any faction. He added that Edozie Njoku would soon end up in jail "for all the atrocities he committed."

He eulogized the NWC of the party for being ever bonded, and prayed that they would remain bonded and synergized.

Oye, who also said that the party has evaluated the outcome of the various primaries done throughout the country, and the preparedness of the party in various states to prosecute the 2023 elections, expressed satisfaction with the outing of the former First Lady of Anambra State, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano.

He said that Mrs Obiano has the capacity to prosecute the Anambra North senatorial election victoriously, because, according to him, she has done so much for the people of Anambra State in various aspects of humanitarian provisions and benevolence.

He also stated that Abia State gubernatorial seat is as good as won because, according to him, the gubernatorial candidate , Professor Greg Ibeh, is amazingly acceptable, and a philanthropist who is God fearing and has all it takes to win.

For Enugu State, he expressed satisfaction with the performance of the party's gubernatorial candidate, Frank Nweke junior, and Hon Uche Nwegbo, running for Senate.

He also expressed confidence that the party would do well in Delta, Akwa Ibom, Imo, among other states.

Nairaland / General / Gov Soludo Poised To Sanitizing Anambra Markets - Akirika by Mokwugwo1975: 3:49pm On Oct 03, 2022
Gov Soludo Poised To Sanitizing Anambra Markets - Akirika

Former chairman of Ogbaru Relief Market, Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, Chief Victor Nwawuzie Akirika, yesterday, said that no amount of blackmail or frivolous petition can deter Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo or his Commissioner for Trade and Industry, Hon. Obinna Ngonadi, from sanitizing Anambra markets.

Akirika was reacting to a petition allegedly sent to Governor Soludo against his commissioner, Hon Ngonadi, by a group that calls itself "Elite of Anambra State Traders," that the commissioner has been selling market leadership positions to the highest bidder; even as he described the petitioners as market touts that thrive in fomenting trouble.

According to him, the motive of the petition accusing Hon Ngonadi, was for Soludo to sack the commissioner for doing a good job of stopping the market leaders from continually defrauding Anambra State through illegal revenue collection - including false shops enumeration, diversion of funds, illegal shop construction, overstay in office, leadership imposition, among other vices.

"There are also those defeated chairmanship candidates, like at Nkpor New Auto Spareparts Market, and others, who even if they contest election 10 times, they will not win because majority of the traders don't want them for being selfish, and will be much interested in how to extort the traders, if given the opportunity", he said.

He disclosed further, "Again, the petitioners are fictitious names. There is nothing like Elite of Anambra State Traders, in any market in Anambra State, and those who sponsored the petition are out for character assassination against one of the best market commissioners, Hon. Ngonadi.

"This is a commissioner with listening ears, and always advises on the way forward, and gives one time to rectify what ever mistakes or illegalities committed before taking action", Akirika maintained.

He urged the governor not to be deterred by the antics of such 'enemies of progress' both in the market sector and other sectors of the economy; adding that it is their nature to thrive in crises.

Akirika, however, blamed the president of Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, ASMATA, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, for not doing enough in piloting the affairs of the traders in the state; stating that arm-chair system of leadership is no longer practiceable anywhere in the world.

"Ekwegbalu should be up and doing, and that is why the government keeps him there - to oversee to the peace, progress and development of the entire markets in the state; and not to continue to sit there and look, even when things are getting out of hand.

"Ekwegbalu's presidency is as good as not having a head," Akirika insisted.

Politics / Why Labour Party Has Not Inaugurated Campaign Council - Senator Victor Umeh by Mokwugwo1975: 3:02pm On Oct 03, 2022
Why Labour Party Has Not Inaugurated Campaign Council - Senator Victor Umeh

From Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The former senator representing Anambra Central at the national assembly, Chief (Sir) Victor Umeh, has said that Labour Party is known to being careful the way it handles its own affairs, being the reason it has not Inaugurated its campaign council as other political parties are doing presently.

Fielding questions from newsmen recently in Awka, during the 2022 Igbo Day celebration organized by Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State chapter, Umeh said that constituting a campaign council is not all about inaugurating big names which will, at the end of the day, fail to deliver.

He said, "We're being very careful in the Labour Party. We don't do things because others are doing. We go for things that will make Nigeria great again.

"You will recall that in the search for Peter Obi's running mate, LP was very careful to get someone, who will match the pairing in the person of Senator (Dr) Yusuf Datti Ahmed. So, it was not all about getting a human being as vice presidential candidate.

"LP went for someone, who will contribute meaningfully in the vision of making Nigeria great again. The choice of Yusuf Datti as Obi's running mate was celebrated all over Nigeria as the best combination.

"Peter Obi and Ahmed Datti are young, energetic, knowledgeable and resourceful. They are going to work as a team to bring modernity to leadership in Nigeria. They represent a generation that is very vast in knowledge; the generation that is in tune with modern techniques of leadership and development."

Umeh, who is the Labour Party senatorial candidate in Anambra Central District for the 2023 general election, further mocked the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), for postponing it's rallies after packaging big names in its campaign council.

"LP does not have campaign council, yet, it was able to organize mega rallies in Jos, Lagos and other cities in Nigeria. After packaging big names in its campaign council, APC postponed it's rallies. The hood does not make the monk.

"Nigerian people are the campaign council LP has for now. They are the people organizing mega rallies in different cities. Without constituting the council yet, the LP campaigns are already running. So, it is not about inaugurating big names.

"APC and PDP cannot organize the kind of rallies LP is organizing; event with all the money they possess. This shows that Nigerian people have taken over LP project. They've owned it, and they're driving it. They're organizing the rallies; they're doing everything by themselves, and it has been marvelous. So, LP inaugurating a campaign council is mere formality.

"So, as Nigerian, if you loved yourself, you must be "OBIdient." I, Senator (Dr) Victor Umeh, I'm "OBIdient" because, I need a new lease of life in Nigeria," he added.

Methodist Church Supports Indigent Members In Onitsha

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

Over 50 indigent members of the All Saints Methodist Church, Fegge, Onitsha, were on Sunday, October 2, supported by the Young Men Fellowship (YMF) of the church to help them cushion the effects of the present harsh economic realities.

Some were assisted to offset their house rents; some were assisted to pay their school fees; while some were given large quantities of foodstuff.

Speaking during the ceremony, the YMF President in the church, Bro Nwoha Peter, said that the event tagged "Hope for the Hopeless" were part of activities lined up by the group to mark the 10th anniversary of its existence.

He said, "What we're doing today started ten years ago by the YMF of this church. It was conceived as a project to support indigent members of our church.

"As the name implies, it is meant to give hope to indigent members of the society, who have almost lost hope due to the harsh economic realities in the country.

"In the present time, many families cannot take care of their house rents; some cannot pay school fees of their children; some cannot afford two square meals, not to talk of three.

"The YMF of this church conceived this project, and make it an annual event to give hope to the hopeless. We levy ourselves to do this. Today, we give some money to some children, which can take care of their school fees for three terms. We paid one year house rents for some members; while some families were given foodstuff.

"During the COVID-19 era, we did the same thing; not only within the church community. The country is very hard. People are crying day and night because of hardship. So, all these motivated us to conceive this project."

Chairman of the Planning Committee of the event (Hope for the Hopeless, 2022), Bro Chukwuemeka Onyerisara, said that the major objective of the project is to serve God through humanity; as well as to draw souls closer to God by a profound show of love.

Secretary of the Planning Committee, Bro Onyebuchi Ohaneje, said that God used the YMF in the church to wipe tears from many eyes.

In his sermon during the church service to mark the event, speaker of the day, Very Rev. Anene Chukwu, who spoke on the theme "Fear not for the Lord is with you" urged the faithful not to allow the worries, cares and concerns of the present time to discourage them from worshipping God. He urged the indigent members not to be deterred by their present conditions, as, according to him, God will visit them in their various conditions in due time.

He encouraged the YMF not to be discouraged in doing good; saying that God rewards and uplifts those that considers the poor.

Earlier, the host priest, Very Rev J.E Mkpukpu, commended the YMF for conceiving the project, and urged them not to allow the light to quench.

One of the beneficiaries, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, commended the church and the YMF of the church for making it an annual ritual to help the needy. He also assured that he would spend the money given to him on the purpose it was meant.

2023: I'll Champion The Completion Of Onitsha Sea Port - Hon. Ibuzo

By Mokwugwo Solomon, Awka

The House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Onitsha North and Onitsha South Federal Constituency for the 2023 general election, Hon Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, has decried the myriad of sufferings southeast traders go through in bringing their goods from the Apapa Wharf by road, and insisted that he will champion the completion of the port if elected into the Green Chamber.

Speaking at the Onitsha South Township Stadium, on Sunday, October 2, during his campaign flag off for the 2023 general election, the lawmaker, who currently represents Onitsha North II State Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, regretted that several people, who represented Onitsha, Anambra State and Southeast in Abuja did not give priority to the completion of the seaport; thus, subjecting traders from the region into untold hardship.

He said: "Completing the Onitsha Sea Port will top my agenda in the House of Representatives. In my first month in the Green Chamber, I must voice it out to ensure that it is completed.

"They have expended billions of the tax payers' money in that project; and I am disappointed that up till now, it has not been completed; and nothing is working there; yet, we have people representing us at the Senate and the House of Representatives.

"Traders in the Southeast and Anambra in particular, are suffering as a result of non completion of that port. Traders will import goods from China, and their goods will stop at the Apapa Wharf. From there, it will be taken on road to the South East, amid bad roads. When their goods get spoilt on the road, nobody will pay them. That is very bad."

He further urged the people to vote APGA during the coming election; saying that reward for hard work is more work.

"For the past 7 years that I am in the House of Assembly, I delivered on the mandate given to me. I attracted good roads to Onitsha North II. I renovated primary schools, and also sponsored bills that imparted positively on the lives of the people. I sponsored free medical outreaches, among other things.

"As we approach 2023 general election, let us be mindful of the kind of people we elect to represent us. People.cominng out to contest with me today, some of them have held elective positions for many years, and they have not been accountable to the people."

Chairman of APGA in Onitsha South LGA, Chief Ikechukwu Ezeoba Mofunanya (Orimili Nando), assured that Onitsha South will support the APGA candidate one hundred percent.

"Since I became chairman 7 years ago, APGA has not lost any election in Onitsha South. This one will not be an exception, because, we are sure Ibuzo will do well if elected to represent his constituency in Abuja," he said.

The Anambra State Legal Adviser of the party, who also doubles as the Onitsha South coordinator of the Edward Ibuzo Campaign Organization, Barr. Emmanuel Maduabuchi Chibuzo, also eulogized the quality representation offered by Hon. Ibuzo to his people at the state assembly, and expressed optimism that he will do better if elected to the House of Representatives.

"In politics, you graduate from one level to another. Ibuzo started from the House of Assembly. He delivered on his mandate in the past 7 years. Now, we are supporting him to graduate to the House of Representatives," he said.

The colourful event was attended by APGA supporters from Onitsha South and Onitsha North; as well as party executives and leaders from all the wards in the two council areas.
