While Iranians Burned Hijabs as a form of Protest, Turkish Women cut off their Hair Outside the Iranian Embassy, while Kurdish and Lebanese Women took part in a Rally in the city center of Beirut in Support. Protesters set fires in the street in Tehran during fifth night of unrest following death of woman who was attacked by 'morality police' for not wearing the veil - as women in Turkey protest outside embassy holding locks of their hair. Dozens of Iranian cities were locked in the grips of deadly riots as women tore off their hijabs and took to the streets, burning the garments while marching for their rights to be seen publicly without the veil. An elderly lady removed her veil to expose her grey hair and walked through the city of Rasht with her head uncovered, chanting 'death to [supreme leader] Khamenei' — risking life imprisonment for her defiance. Lights flashing red and blue shrank back into the shadows as protesters advanced, with a crowd of hundreds overwhelming the regime's forces. Elsewhere, police fled atop motorcycles as a wave of protesters charged. Amini's treatment during captivity led to her becoming comatose and dying following her arrest in Tehran, sparking demonstrations in multiple areas, the capital included. President Raisi has promised an investigation after at-first denying the accusations, but it has done little to quell the protests. The head of Tehran’s morality police, Ahmed Mirzaei, has reportedly been suspended after the death of the young woman, according to The Times of Israel.

I think the ibo unbalanced the power in Nigeria. Because Ironsi was the first person to make other people in Nigeria to know coup is possible and he was the first person that started tribalism. 1 Like |

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine Prison Running Out Of Space As Russia Military Surrender. by morinto: 11:11am On Sep 13, 2022 |
Ukrainian forces have retaken 6,000 square kilometres of their homeland - 3,000 of them in the past six days alone, it has been reported. And in his nightly address to his nation, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the "advance of our forces" was still continuing. His claims appear to be supported by renowned think tank, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a US-based group which provides research and analysis of defence and foreign affairs. It said the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region was "routing Russian forces and collapsing Russia's northern Donbas axis". It went on: "Russian forces are not conducting a controlled withdrawal and are hurriedly fleeing southeastern Kharkiv Oblast (an administrative region) to escape encirclement around Izyum." A spokesman for Ukrainian military intelligence said Russian troops were surrendering en masse as "they understand the hopelessness of their situation" and an adviser to President Zelenskyy had said there were so many prisoners of war, the country was running out of space to accommodate them. It is claimed Ukrainian military have freed more than 20 settlements in 24 hours. In recent days, Kyiv's forces have captured territory at least twice the size of greater London, according to the British Ministry of Defence. "Since the beginning of September and up to today, our fighters have liberated more than 6,000 square km of the territory of Ukraine in the south and in the east," Zelenskyy said in his nightly video. Ukraine's forces are said to have pushed all the way back to the north-eastern border in some places, forcing the Russians to make a hasty retreat. There were reports of chaos as Russian troops pulled out. "The Russians were here in the morning. Then at noon, they suddenly started shouting wildly and began to run away, charging off in tanks and armoured vehicles," Dmytro Hrushchenko, a resident of recently-liberated Zaliznychne, a small town near the eastern front line, told Sky News. Video taken by the Ukrainian military showed soldiers raising the Ukrainian flag over battle-damaged buildings. In one scene, a fighter wiped his boots on a Russian flag on the ground. Other videos showed Ukrainians inspecting the wreckage of Russian military vehicles, including tanks. Ukrainian teams were disarming land mines and other unexploded weapons in the recaptured areas and searching for any remaining Russian troops, officials said. However, defence experts have cautioned the battle in Ukraine has ebbed and flowed over recent months. |

BREAKING: Russian troops on the right bank of the Dnipro have started negotiating their surrender with Ukrainian forces. Apparently, their logistics aren’t working after Ukraine hit the bridges on the Dnipro river and they are quickly running out of ammo. The information was provided by the spokesperson of Operational Command "South" Natalia Gumenyuk. Apparently, the Russians want to be allowed to withdraw with their weapons intact. 1 Like |

Foreign Affairs / Police Pursue Local Russian Lawmakers Who Urged Charging Putin With Treason by morinto: 11:18am On Sep 10, 2022 |
group of district council members in St. Petersburg, President Vladimir Putin’s hometown, called for the Russian leader to be charged with treason and removed from office in a rare but brazen protest against the war in Ukraine. We're following changes at the palace after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Get the Post Elizabeth newsletter for updates. The brave move by the Smolninsky District Council drew a predictably swift and unfriendly reaction. A day after the resolution against Putin was made public, a local police station told the lawmakers they were facing legal charges “due to actions aimed at discrediting the current Russian government.” The district council’s statement came in the form of a request to the Russian parliament, the State Duma, and asserted that Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine on Feb. 24 led to a massive loss of life, turned countless Russian men into disabled veterans, hindered the national economy, and fast-tracked NATO’s eastward expansion. A second municipal council in Moscow’s Lomonosovsky district followed suit and voted on a similar motion calling on Putin to resign. Outspoken criticism of Putin is rare, and while the two motions were little more than symbolic statements, they represented a remarkable public rebuke. They also served as evidence that public support for the war in Ukraine is not universal, and could be eroding as a recent survey of Russian public opinion found. Russians back war in Ukraine, but report finds notable opposition “We believe that the decision made by President Putin to start the special military operation is detrimental to the security of Russia and its citizens,” the Smolninsky document filed on Wednesday evening said. “We ask you,” the lawmakers wrote, “to initiate a treason charge against the president of the Russian Federation to remove him from office.” |

Foreign Affairs / Prepare Bomb Shelters And Supplies, Residents In Crimea Told As Ukrainian Troops by morinto: 5:37am On Sep 06, 2022 |
Ukraine on Monday warned residents in occupied Crimea to start preparing bomb shelters and supplies as Kyiv’s counter-offensive to reclaim southern Ukraine gathers pace. The warning came as Moscow admitted it had been forced to pause preparations for a sham referendum to formally join Russia due to security concerns. In a sign the assault has made progress, one of Volodymyr Zelensky’s top aides said the illegally annexed peninsula should prepare for “de-occupation”. Ukrainian forces last week launched a major counter-offensive, its first since the beginning of the war, to take back control of Russian-held territory in the region. Despite the attack said to be focused on southern Ukraine, Kyiv on Monday warned residents in Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014, to brace for the potential of fierce fighting. We ask residents of occupied territories, including the Crimean peninsula, to follow [Ukrainian] officials’ recommendations during de-occupation measures,” Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior aide to the Ukrainian president, wrote on Twitter. “In particular, to prepare a bomb shelter, stock up with sufficient amounts of water and charge power banks. Everything will be in Ukraine.” Russian military bases on the Black Sea peninsula were rocked by devastating explosions in the build-up to the counter-offensive, but Ukrainian officials refused to publicly take credit for the attacks. Crimea, a strategically vital stronghold for Russia and home to its Black Sea naval fleet, was always thought to be out for Ukraine’s arsenal of precision weapons. But as Ukrainian forces move closer to the southern city of Kherson, more targets will fall into range of US-provided Himars and other Western long-range rocket launchers A few hours later, he posted a video denying that Russian-installed authorities had paused efforts for a long-planned referendum to bring the region under Kremlin control. Ukrainian forces advance While Ukraine has remained largely silent on operations in the south, Western analysts said Kyiv had been able to increase its bridgehead over the Inhulets River near Kherson. Russian airstrikes on Sukhy Stavok, Bezimenne and Kostromka around the secured grounds “may indicate that Ukrainian forces have advanced up to 12km south east of the bridgehead”, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a US-based think-tank. After Ukrainian forces liberated Vysokopillya, there were reports that Russian attacks on the settlements of Olhyne, Potomkyne, Doryanka, and Novovoznesenske nearby, suggesting Moscow’s forces had left the area. Pro-Russian sources said Ukraine’s offensive was being carried out in at least five directions east and west of Vysokopillya, near the Ukrainian bridgehead, near Snihurivka some 37 miles east of Mykolaiv, and north west and west of Kherson. “Ukrainian forces have made substantial enough progress to begin evoking more realistic commentary from the Russian milbloggers, who had been hewing very closely to the Kremlin’s optimistic rhetoric until today,” ISW added
