Russia-appointed officials in the occupied Kherson region of Ukraine say they are “pausing” a planned referendum on whether to become part of Russia because of attacks by Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine last week said it had launched offensives in several directions in the southern region but has since released few details and continues to insist on a “regime of silence” for strategic reasons.

Russian state news agency Tass reported that the head of Kherson’s authorities, Kirill Stremousov, said plans for a referendum on joining Russia had been “paused” because of the security situation.

Stremousov told Tass attacks on the Antonivskiy Bridge in Kherson city by Ukrainian forces had stopped traffic from crossing the Dnieper River, which links the two sides of the region.

The reported push appears to form part of a long-awaited offensive being launched by Kyiv in an attempt to retake the country's south.

Russia's military has not commented on Ukraine's claim, but one official said this was "yet another fake".

"Ukrainian formations are suffering severe losses both in the south and in all other directions," said Sergei Aksyonov, the Moscow-installed head of Crimea - Ukraine's southern peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.

The claims by both Ukraine and Russia have not been independently verified.

Russia has occupied large swathes of Ukraine's Kherson region since its invasion began on 24 February.

It added that Russian paratroopers providing the back-up had fled the battlefield.

Ukraine's Hromadske TV said three of its sources in Ukraine's military confirmed that the first line of defence had been broken.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian army spokeswoman Natalia Humeniuk said "any military operation requires 'silence' regime", urging Ukrainians to be patient.

"Our main efforts have been focused on destroying the enemy's ammunition storage bases. More than 10 of such bases were destroyed over the past week," she said.

But Ms Humeniuk refused to give any further details.

In a telegram post the Ukrainian military also claimed on Monday to have struck multiple targets in the region, including a factory in Beryslav and a Russian army post by the North Crimean Canal.

Kyiv officials claim to have used US-supplied Himars rocket systems to destroy three bridges crossing the Dnipro River, strikes it said would cut the Russian forces occupying Kherson off from weapons and troop reinforcements.

According to Western military sources, Kyiv's strikes on the river crossings are part of a targeted effort to isolate Russian troops on the right (western) bank of the river with the ultimate goal of recapturing the entire Kherson region.

Moscow relied on the bridges to resupply their troops stationed west of the Dnipro river, who are now at risk of becoming isolated from the rest of Russia's occupying forces.

Russian outlets also reported on Monday that Ukraine had struck targets in the Kherson region - but reported that the strikes had focused on civilian infrastructure.

Moscow-appointed regional official Vladimir Leontyev claimed on Monday that Ukrainian forces had shelled a hydropower plant and floodway in the Kherson city of Novaya Kakhovka, according to Russia's TASS news agency.

Its forces also claimed to have shot down three ballistic missiles and 21 rockets fired by Ukraine

Russia is losing 8.6 million euros daily from lack of sale from Europe

Russia is burning off large amounts of natural gas that could be supplied to Europe, a research company has said.

Rystad Energy said satellite monitoring shows that since 11 July, Russia has been "flaring" large volumes of gas at the Portovaya LNG facility close to the Finnish border.

It said the amount being burned was about 0.5% of the EU's annual requirements.

Instead of being flared, the gas could be supplied to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, Rystad said.

The pipeline is currently running at just 20% capacity, it added.
The company questioned Russia's "intent when it comes to gas exports to Europe which are down 77% year-on-year so far in August".

That is "equivalent to over 20% of EU demand", it added.

Flaring is a process during which flammable gas is burned off for technical or safety reasons.

But the levels of flaring at Portovaya appear to be significantly higher than expected.

Rystad added: "If the Portovaya facility was a standalone gas field, it would be on the top five list of largest fields flaring globally.

"The flaring is an environmental disaster with around 9,000 tonnes of CO2 being emitted daily."

The video that talk about that guy living in his house is not CNN. That video of what ever is a big fat lie because I can see many lapses in that video
1) The video said he is been paid 70 pounds per hour meaning if he work 11 hour a day he would make 770 dollars. Meaning if he work 50 hours a week he will also make 3,500 dollars a week. My guy Google is your friend you can check for a average 2 bedroom flat in the USA then compare it with that guy salary then you would know the people that did the video are just lame people.
2) Am still surprised why the government have not cease the children from the man. Check reliable journals and not lame people that put stuff into the Internet. Government cease children if you can't take good care of them.
3) concerning that cnn video. It talk about inflation of food which was a general issue and worst compare to Nigeria because of ukraine - Russia war.
