Africa is to have the largest independent power plant built in the Sub-Saharan region, Ghana. Cenpower Generation Limited has already signed an agreement for construction of Kpone Independent Power Plant (KIPP) in the Tema industrial zone at a cost of US$900m to finance the project. The Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant is projected to start stream in 2017, adding about 10% of Ghana’s total installed capacity and approximately 20% of the country’s available thermal generation capacity. It will be amongst Ghana’s most fuel-efficient thermal power stations in meeting Ghana’s growing electricity demand. Oliver Andrews Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer of the African Finance Corporation (AFC) said that, Africa’s public and private sectors are coming together in innovative and sustainable partnership to create the bankable energy infrastructure projects in response to the continent’s economic growth. A US$ 650 million debt tranche will be provided by a consortium of South African Commercial banks and international Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), with the rest of funds being a US$ 250m equity tranche. Rand Merchant Bank (‘RMB’) acted as the Global Lead Bank and Mandated Lead Arranger for the commercial banking tranche. Nedbank and Standard Bank Mandated were also involved as Lead Arrangers. Nederlandse Financierings-Maatschappij voor Ontwikkelings Landen N.V. (FMO), the Dutch Development Bank, acted as the Mandated Arranger for the DFI tranche. Sumitomo Corporation of Japan, African Infrastructure Investment Fund II and its co-investors (via an investment vehicle called Mercury Power) and FMO will be joining the equity consortium via equity raising as new investors, whilst InfraCo, the principal project co-developer since inception, is leaving the equity consortium. Cenpower has already signed a deal with the South Africa-based Group Five for procurement, construction and engineering/design of the new power plant. http://constructionreviewonline.com/2014/10/09/africa-largest-independent-power-plant-built-ghana/

AVIC International Holding Corporation has made public their intent to establish their African headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The project will be undertaken at a cost of US$ 200m. The building will be set up on a 2,500 square meters piece of land and will include commercial units, a hotel, residential units and offices. The time frame set for the project to be complete is five years and it is expected to create 2000 jobs during the realization phase, and 3000 jobs once complete. Avic International Africa Director Huang Hong indicated that they chose Kenya as their headquarters in Africa due to its geographical location, the close bilateral relations between the two states and the favorable economic environment in the country. AVIC International chairman, Wu Guangquan, said the company’s engagement in the African market remains critical to its global business strategy, adding that the company is looking beyond mere commercial interests. The firm has ongoing projects in Kenya, including construction of Terminal 4 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and the Greenfield Airport, Two Rivers project in Westlands, UAP Towers in Upperhill and another real estate project in Runda. Other Chinese companies that have set their headquarters in Kenya include StarTimes, China Daily and Xinhua News Agency. East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie applauded the move and said that it should be an indication to other Chinese firms that indeed they should be assured of government support when they venture into the country. AVIC International has made remarkable strides in many of its wide- ranging business areas, such as international aviation, trade and logistics, retail and high-end consumer goods, real estate and hotel management, high-tech electronics and resource development, with an overall portfolio of over US$ 26bn. http://constructionreviewonline.com/2014/10/13/avic-international-set-headquarters-nairobi-kenya-us-200m/

.Two Nigerians and an Israeli citizen are presently being held by South African police for attempting to illegally bring $9.3m cash into the country. South Africa's City Press newspaper reported that the accused persons brought the money which is in bundles of unused $100 bills, packed in three suitcases in a small business jet, a Bombardier Challenger 600 with a Nigerian crew. According to the report, the jet departed Abuja on September 5 and when it arrived South Africa, Customs officers became suspicious when the passengers' luggage was unloaded and put through the scanners just after 7pm. F117A: The decent schools in kenya are not more than 2 or 3.the best university in Nigeria is University of Lagos which is rated at number 21,while University of Nairobi is rated 17th in africa.....there are over 8decent universities in kenya which are public, before i even mention the private ones |
denisfidha: it's nice to see a fellow mkenya.thanks you have helped, i will try to apply for cadets incase it wont interfere with me finishing fourth year next year...what do you do? are you in kenya? |
denisfidha: advantages of schooling inside a military barracksi always wish to be trained by KDF but cant get through the normal process because am short...but i can use my education to join them but cant find a way |
homerac7: this is d 1000th thread on whc African military force is "stronger" than the other according to some blind kid's fantasy rating. i'm sure that in another 2 months time, another hyper-ventilatng juvenile will raise another chest-beating thread on "country with the strongest military and pictures of their equipment".i also noted how biased this list is, how is the nigerian army second largest while it is the largest in africa.....how can a tanzanian force be greater than kenyan which ha s the biggest machinery, personnels and budget allocation,...... |
this statistics are kinda wrong, first they group army in terms of personnels, the nigeria should be leading..... the correct order i know is SA,Egypt,Morroco,Nigeria,Kenya,Ethipia,Libya........Kenya has better army that other east and central african countries |
denisfidha: more OLNbetter KDF will win against those terrorists |
