The Supreme Court has reserved judgement in the appeal filed by the Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, over the nullification of his election. Recall that the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Appeal Court have at different times asked the governor to vacate office over inappropriate nomination procedure, leading yo his election. A three-member panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Elphreda Williams-Dawodu had declared Nentawe Goshwe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state. The appeal court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Mutfwang and issue a fresh one to Goshwe. After listening to all parties in the matter, the apex court reserved judgement to a date that will be communicated to parties.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed a former General Manager and Daily Editor of LEADERSHIP Newspaper, Kingsley Stanley Nkwocha, as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications in the Presidency.Nkwocha was appointed alongside several others who will work in the Office of the Vice President. Nkwocha holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Strategy from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Maiduguri. He began his career as a proofreader and rose through the ranks, holding various positions, including Group Politics Editor, Managing Editor, and Editorial Director at LEADERSHIP in 2018. He ventured into consulting and training, working in countries such as Liberia, Ethiopia, Brazil, and the United States of America, where he spent significant time.Upon returning to Nigeria in 2021, Nkwocha established Goldspring Prints and Press Ltd and Triple Impact Media and Communications Ltd.He had served as the Secretary of the Media Directorate of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC), where he served in the Media and Publicity, Public Affairs, Strategic Communication, and New Media Directorates, as well as being a member of the Public Affairs directorate. Meanwhile, President Tinubu also appointed Tope Fasua, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Analytics Consulting, as the Special Adviser on Economic Affairs in the VP’s office. Fasua, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration and has taken courses at the London Business School and Harvard University. Others appointed to the VP’s office include Sadiq S Jambo as Special Adviser Economy, Dr. Muhammad Bulama as Senior Special Assistant Special Duty, Mahmud Muhammad as Personal Assistant Domestic North-East and Ahmed Ningi as Senior Special Assistant Digital Media and Emergency Management.

ARussian political analyst has claimed warlord, Yevgeny Prigozhin, is alive after his “body double” was killed in last week's plane crash – not the Wagner chief himself. Prigozhin is “alive, well, and free” in an unnamed country, according to Dr Valery Solovey, even as Russia stages his funeral which Vladimir Putin is refusing to attend. The astonishing assertion holds that Prigozhin cheated an assassination bid sanctioned by Putin and drawn up by his security council, DailyMail reports. Prigozhin is now plotting his revenge, says the political analyst, a former professor at Moscow's prestigious Institute of International Relations [MGIMO], a training school for spies and diplomats. Dr Solovey accuses the Russian authorities of lying over Prigozhin's DNA being found at the crash site in Tver region, while being aware the bid to kill the Wagner supremo had failed because a body double - which the warlord was known to use - got on the plane in his place First, the plane in which Yevgeny Prigozhin was supposed to fly was downed by a Russian air defence system, he said, challenging US intelligence claims that the plane was destroyed by a blast on board. “There was no explosion on board. It was downed from the outside.” The secret operation to carry out this strike “was developed in [Russia's] Security Council, and was sanctioned personally by the Russian president [Vladimir Putin].” The warlord is now “alive, well, and free,” Solovey claims. “Prigozhin himself was not on board. His double was flying instead of him. By the way, Vladimir Putin is perfectly aware of that. If you believe official statements of the Russian authorities, then what can I say…?” Dr Solovey said he would reveal Prigozhin's supposed country of exile early next month but denied it was in Africa where the Wagner private army has multiple interests. It had been reported that Prigozhin was laid to rest at the Porokhovskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg, Russia, the deceased businessman’s media team announced on Tuesday. His burial came six days after he died in a plane crash, in Russia's Moscow capital. On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters Russian President Vladimir Putin — who Prigozhin rose up against in June — would not attend the funeral. According to a report by RT, the funeral was held behind closed doors, with only close relatives and friends of Prigozhin in attendance. |

GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, has approved the payment of N10, 000 to 50,196 workers in the state public service for the next three months to cushion the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and the downward spiral of the naira against the dollar. Oborevwori who announced the approval on Tuesday while swearing-in 26 Commissioners into the State Executive Council, said the payment would start from August, adding that the staff figure included employees of the ten higher institutions in the state. He also approved that workers from salary grade Levels 1-14 should run shifts, with first batch Mondays to Wednesdays and second batch, Thursday to Friday. He said: “This schedule will be implemented on a rotational basis. Those who work from Monday-Wednesday in one week will work Thursday to Friday the following week to ensure fairness and equity. The schedule for officers from salary grade Levels 15 and above is to be worked out by the various MDAs as it is suitable for them. “However, staff on essential services must be on duty while working remotely is also encouraged. The other arms of government – the judiciary and legislature – are to work out their modalities as they deem fit. “As you are aware, local government workers are not under the administration of the state. However, we have held consultations with the leadership of ALGON and it is our earnest expectation that ALGON will implement the same palliative measures for its workers. “In line with my electoral promise, I recently approved the payment of outstanding promotion arrears to twenty-three thousand, eight hundred and eighty-seven (23,887) workers in the state public service. “The total amount payable is five billion, five hundred and twenty-two million, six hundred and thirty-seven thousand, eight hundred and forty-eight naira, and five kobo (N5, 522,637, 848.05). The payment commences from this month of August and will be made in four tranches. According to him, “the thorny issue of unpaid local government pensions is nearing final resolution. My administration helped to secure legislative approval for the local government councils to obtain a N40b bank loan to enable them liquidate their backlog of pension liabilities." https://www.vanguardngr.com
